The quill hotel in Busia
Description
Nice wet fry chickenGreat French fries
Cold water shower, poor customer service
No water in the showers, very poor customer service, no parking inside but outside the establishment. Rooms way much below my expectations. I wouldnt recommend
MoreCool place to be in busia
Standards have fallen drastically over the past 4 years
Went here for dinner. Food took over an hour even though there werent that many customers present at the time, and taste was ok. It was too loud inside and there were too many mosquitos outside.
MoreIts conveniently located along the Kisumu Busia highway. Excellent customer service and accommodation
MoreLoved everything about it. You need to visit
The food here is terrible, the customer service is wanting and terribly slow. You literally have to call them over and over again. The server took drink orders and disappeared only to come and take meal orders 40min later after one of us reminded him to. We had to wait 3 hours to get our meals and when they came, they were piece meal. Youd get fries and wait another 20min to get chicken, or whatever accompaniment you got. I kid you not (pic one, my half eaten fries, pic 2 the lamb finally arrived). The music was really unpleasantly loud, wasnt turned down despite our request. great DJ though. Never coming back for the meals!
MoreMessage to management:With so many terrible reviews, (obviously from actual customers,no one can possibly trust the glowing, positive reviews which totally contradict the negative ones.We would have stayed at your facility, but its obvious to any discerning reader that management and ownership doesnt care about customer service and improvements. We will keep looking for suitable accomodations where management and staff are professional and service oriented, and desiring genuinely good, honest reviews.
MoreNo Wi-Fi
Pathetic service. You order for food it comes more than three hours...we left the place even before the food came. The staff doesnt care either.
MoreBest place to be in Busia. Warm reception. Ambient accomodations in place.
Nice place but the service🤦♀️my order took more than 2hrs only for waiter to come n tell me the chef had not even started on it, anyway would not recommend 😑
MoreVery cute place, very friendly staff and good food. Terrible showers and beddings not clean. You can never have breakfast on time. Generally need to improve management coz it’s a great facility.
MoreIt was a very cool place with a delicious food excellence accommodation with a very nice sparkling swimming pool..very enjoyable place to be...
MoreThe Management is very poor. There was no power, we got to know later that power was disconnected at the place long time ago, this meant we could not get hot shower, the recptionist called Okello kept on taking us round and round lying he is going to get an elactrician. In the morning, he had even forgotten there were visitors so breakfast was not there,we complained and finally got a rushed Breakfast which also a mess, in short there is no value for money, oh again Mosquitoes throughout the night, probably due to stagnant water in swimming. No slippers in the rooms. All in all, NO VALUE FOR MONEY.
MoreDump with no food and bad staffing. If you order a beer and its rotten, you have to pay for it because "its already in the system". Avoid.
MoreAmazing staff.Cooperative team.Great place to stay in Busia
1.The beddings not well cleaned, could not sleep because of too too much mosquito, showered with cold water and generally terrible room service.2.With all this problems there was no one to assist or complain to.All staff had gone home or asleep!3.The hotel structure and ambience is good but lacks good management.
MoreNice concept. Very nice food. Staff are a bit lax though. One of the better hotels in Busia though.
MoreLovely bar ,the lounge is beautiful but thats it .The rooms have nothing to write home about apart from the gigantic mosquitoes .The room I got didnt have running water the whole night ,raised the issue with hotel staff and still it wasnt sorted. The food was okay .Accomodation didnt meet my expectation and there is no value for money .
MoreOne of the best ambiances in Busia. However is no place for a family with kids. The main lobby is designed around a bar with TVs stationed for match day, soccer. Food takes long and needs improvement.
MoreI dont like the service from waitress,,, very poor,, they have to learn more about their menu
MoreNice place near next to the Kenya Busia border. Rooms are spacious with hot water. Food is poor. I was served with rotting meat for dinner.
MoreGood potential not fully exploited. The rooms were infested by mosquitoes and facilities are falling apart here and there (sockets without cover, broken shower plate, bathroom window that cannot close...). The location is good and it can give a quiet night of rest to the traveller, but the food is basic and some times in bad condition, and the rule of "two people of the same gender are not allowed to share" puts them on the road to bigotry and makes cost sharing impossible, meaning you end up paying 40$ for a so so place.
MoreSuper cool...luxurious, a place one can have with his/her family...we appreciate such hotels in Busia town
MoreThe services offered are quite awesome, this is a place you can chill and relax during your extra time as the place is quite extra ordinary
MoreAmazing experience...great meals, you will love their English Tea,also very friendly staff...
MoreChicken here was amazing 👏 . They just need to finish building the place . Heater took forever though 😩
MoreAt least I had somewhere decent to retire to for rest after a day’s work. Meals are Ala Carte and well prepared. Breakfast was Buffet style and ok. There is however great opportunity for improvement:1. I was told that the enclosed restaurant area at the accommodation block was only for Breakfast. They need to reconsider this as not everyone appreciates eating in the Bar area with it’s noisy music and dimmed lights. In the evening, the alternative open area outside is also not very helpful due to possible cold weather and mosquitoes.2. The morning breakfast fresh juices look and taste quite different from what I’ve seen elsewhere and the fruits are sometimes overripe and bordering spoilt. There’s need for benchmarking here.3. A few times there were no vegetables/greens available when I ordered my dinner. But at least there’s one time a lovely waitress Linda was kind enough to cross the road to The Quill Annex to check and got me some. God Bless Her.4. Customer is limited to hot water and hot milk to mix the breakfast hot beverage (Milo, Tea or Coffeewhich was lukewarm a few times and I had to request for reheating (microwavingof my cup. No chance to order a special request like mixed tea or Masala Tea.5. When fixing Half Board meal Limits with the Travel Agents of for example 600/=, they need to ask themselves what the menu options are and what would be readily available if the guest would select from the various food classes. The Hotel needs to remind the Travel Agent to inform the customer and they should also state this at check in. This caught me as a surprise and I had to crack my head just to figure out what I would have for dinner coz everything just seemed to blow beyond the limit. It has also been ages since I was in a hotel that charges ugali as a separate itemized line as is done at Quill.
MoreThe ambiance is lovely. The grounds are well maintained and clean. The staff is also very kind and friendly. So sad it was only a brief stop over. Will definitely visit again and stay much longer.
MoreA nice place for a day out. Starting from the comfy sits, warm corners, room heaters, swimming pool all the way to the classic rooms for a night.
MoreThis is the lowest rating I have ever given any service provider. Horrible service! I really mean horrible! We ordered a burger and got a burger buns with blue and on it with mince meat filling, cucumbers, cabbage with a full tomato on the side
MoreWell designed. Comfortable and the rooms were budget friendly and well appointed .Their no photography policy keeps the young crowd away .but thats a good thing. But then keeps them off the social media
MoreThe food is scrumptious.. Although they dont have steak knives 😅😅😅... Ask to be served by the charming Caroline. She is such a darling. (dont ask for steak knives when they bring butter knives.. Coz this is what youll get)
MoreWe stayed in this hotel with my boyfriend and my sister with kids, it was awesome, i feelings of coming back home from Zanzibar it was a wonderful stay, nice receptionist Janet i love her she is super, looking forward to invite her in Zanzibar Blue Oyster hotel. I like her service she was really nice, caring. All was awesome.Price are not worthy what you expect to get.
MoreNice surroundings, average at best food, poor customer service. Once ordered pork, got served a dish full of lumps of fried fat, and when complained just got lot of defensiveness and attitude. Have seen other reviews with similar or worse experiences so seems thats the norm. A pity because its so nicely designed and decorated
MoreVariety of local foods and fast foods. I didnt like the food tho.... The Chicken was tasteless... The scenery is beautiful and clean with a swimming pool, conference room, lounge, bar, accommodation and a bar. I liked the customer care, they are friendly and welcoming. The place is situated along the road side so its accessible with options of public transport at disposal. The prices are relatively high if compared exchanged into Ugandan shillings. They dont transact in Uganda shillings but rather Kenya shillings, dollars and visa card. Since the place is on the boarder of Uganda and Kenya, it would be wise if both currencies are accepted.
MoreWaiters and waitresses have attitudes bigger than the hotel itself. We ordered food waited 2hrs no food. My friends been here before they all have same stories. Place is beautiful but very poor services
MoreAh the Quill... What can I say about this place? Waiters usually mess up the bill and overcharge and the food takes forever! Seriously, you may die of old age while waiting, or a new Ice Age may arrive or the Earth may he struck by a meteorite. But the grubs not bad and the beer is cold.
MoreAn ideal place for team building, lots of activities ranges from swimming, ball games, tag of war. They also have nice and affordable food.
MoreNot the best ..but certainly the best in Kisumu. Mostly clean and functional. If you enjoy Kenny G, you will enjoy the breakfasts. WiFi is mostly non-existant because the staff are constantly streaming YouTube on the terminals. If you can get them off then WiFi is ok.
MorePathetic! I wouldnt even allocate a single star. Very good workers but disempowered. They cant make decisions. A remote, insensitive and in considerate management.
MoreIf youre visiting Busia, please dont miss to visit this eloquent place. Nice scenery, cool breeze, swimming pool. Enjoy n have fun here
MoreA place to be. Very cosy and fun filled entertainment. Affordable rates on accommodation and discounted drinks. Great customer service, very secure.
MoreI stayed there for two (2days in April 2017. Nice bedroom. The prices are reasonable, and food was great + the Lingala music... Franco etc.The service is not bad BUT they need to train or hire a Good Manager.Have a variety in their breakfast. All in all, I highly recommend it.
MoreThe hotel has a good environment for relaxing and having a nice outing. Good view and little noise though the swimming pool is small. Overall is a great place
MorePOOR MANAGEMENT AND LACK OF PROFESSIONSLISM! Booked with a deposit 4 days prior to our arrival in Busia. Rooms were confirmed reserved at the time of deposit. We arrived in the evening in the pouring rain only to be told there were no rooms available! Too add insult to injury, they werent even apolegetic!
MoreGreat garden and pool late closing bar great African music at night, friendly staff. Needs investment in the building and staff training. Rooms at 5500 Ks a night. Has wireless and air-conditioned bedrooms. Wireless is not always reliable. Serves mostly local food but trying to westernise the menu. Great samosas and chips and lots of booze.TVs everywhere showing MNet soccer PL as well as African cup of nations. Other channel shows movies, and local TV.
