Great spot close to the beach. The manager, Claudio, is very accommodating and has great recommendations for things to do/places to go. Stayed here for a month and wish I could have stayed longer.

I recommend the Zoo- I booked one night and ended up staying for a few weeks. Claudio the owner was great and super helpful. The social areas were nice for mingling, the dorm room was comfortable. I really miss Ms. Martha, the hostel cat!

I only stayed one night but the owner is so kind and helpful that even if the hostel were horrible (ITS ACTUALLY GREATI would give five stars. Any info or help you need the owner will help you. The hostel itself is small and the social areas a little lacking but its very cheap and the rooms were comfy. One complaint would be its right in the road so theres constantly cars and motorbikes zooming by.

Claudio is amazing and will for sure take care of you. Recommand x10000 this hostel you can book eyes closed. 👍🏻👍🏻

I stayed at The Zoo for 5 days and can definitely recommend this place. It is very clean and has everything you would need. Long Beach is just around the corner, Mays Kitchen is just next door as The Irish Embassy and Joker Bar, with a short walk you can be in the village where 7eleven and many other restaurants and bars are. Claudio is a very sweet, friendly and adorable man who always made sure, I had everything I needed, he literally went out of his way to make me (and another few guestsfeel at home. All in all, I can definitely recommend Claudio and The Zoo to everyone!

A great place! Very friendly owner with a lot of good tips about the island and Thailand. Ill say this is probably the cheapest hostel I ever been in Thailand yet its really clean (cleaner than most), got real beds and the fastest internet I ever experience in a hostel. Its a basic accommodation but in the category is definitely the top.

I would avoid this place at all costs especially if you are a solo female traveler. I felt very unsafe, unwelcome here because of the temperamental owner. I stayed during the low season so I was the only guest in the entire place. I dropped my bags at 10am then checked in at 6:30pm, when I got to the upstairs room I turned on the AC because it was very hot and stuffy. Seconds later the owner trampled up the stairs to angrily tell me "the AC goes on at 7:00!". I replied sorry I didnt know. Ok my fault, should have asked for his lists of rules and regulations. It was an honest mistake but after that he had an attitude with me. He is all day sitting in the common room downstairs waiting to try to start an argument. Very hostile and strange behavior for a hostel owner. Pay a little more and stay somewhere else.

I stayed here for 6 days. The hostel is clean and well maintained. Long Beach is 200mt away if you turn left outside the main road. Secret Beach is about 2km from the hostel and can be reached if you turn right on the main road. My one suggestion is that you will need a scooter/moped if you decide to visit Koh Lanta. However, if you cannot ride a moped, like me, bicycles are available for rent. There is a little village if you turn right on the main road and walk a for about 5 mins, which has a 7-11. Owner is very charming and helpful, place is clean and beds very comfortable. I had a really good time here. I will come back.

Me and a friend have spent 4 perfect nights at The Zoo! The hostel is clean and nice, basic but really comfortable, the owner was so friendly, generous and helpful, he shared with us some delicious food, helped us find a motorbike and organize our onward trip to Bangkok that went perfectly fine ! He gave us really good tips about what we could have done in Koh Lanta and Bangkok too. He is really a genuine nice guy and he got a nice and friendly cat. Ill be back to visit him next year in March. Thank you!

The guy was so rude. Not very welcoming I will not stay there. I left and got a different place to stay

The room was clean and big we had a lot of space for our backpacks. Wifi was very fast.But the owner opened the doors during the day and the AC was off, so all the heat from outside came in and stayed in. In the afternoon it was hotter inside than outside. The AC was turned on from 7pm till 9pm and it was not the best, so the room was always kinda hot.. also the Restaurant next to the hostel had very loud music it was hard to sleep..The owner was ok, he said to us we should use only one toilet so he hasn‘t got to clean the other one. Sometimes he just seemed a little bit rude but maybe that‘s just his way to talk to people.

Really great hostel, brilliant owner, everything is clean and beds are very comfortable.

Worth for the price you pay, absolutely loved my stay at The Zoo, Claudio and his wife were super friendly and could not do enough for you, always smiling and happy to help! The dorm was spacious and clean. The location for me was perfect , it was peaceful yet was a lot going on in the area, thank you very much for having me, take care , I will coming back.

Nice hostel with comfy beds and air conditioning. The bathrooms seemed a little dirty, but otherwise a good stay.

Great location and the owner can help you book anything (from day trips to moterbike rentals to ferries off the islandat a discounted price. Air con from 6pm - 10am during peak season. Very comfortable beds and a very cute hostel cat ❤

Great basic place, ideal for socialize and meet other travelers, everything is clean and well maintained, beds are really comfy, I would say the best I slept in, fast internet, great food, huge TV in the lobby with entertainment system and loads of movies, many place to sit and chill, but why you really want to be here is because of the owner, he is really nice and kind and genuinely helps you out in everything, you wont find anyone like him around in Thailand. Recommended.

Nous avons passé une nuit dans cet hostel. Les parties communes et les chambres sont propres et correspondent à la description et aux photos mises sur le site. Cest un bon rapport qualité-prix. En revanche, la clim était à 22 dans le dortoir sans possibilité de la baisser malgré notre demande.Nous avons choisi de ne pas y rester une seconde nuit à cause de laccueil du propriétaire Claudio. Dès notre arrivée nous avons été agacés par son attitude. Nous navons que peu échangé avec lui car il ne nous a pas du tout donné envie de sympathiser, mais les quelques fois ont suffi pour que nous nous fassions cette idée (le check in, discussion sur nos activités programmées, divers petits renseignements demandés, le départ au petit matin). Il est prêt à discréditer dautres hostels/compagnies proposant des tours afin que lon réserve avec lui, quitte à noircir le tableau concernant ce que les autres proposent. Nous avons eu limpression dêtre mis sous pression pour réserver une deuxième nuit. Dans le dortoir, dautres francophones avec qui nous avons discuté ont tenu le même discours.Je tiens à préciser que ce commentaire a pour but de faire partager notre expérience. Nous ne doutons pas que Claudio puisse être friendly avec dautres clients, mais ce nest pas le sort qui nous a été réservé et cela sans raison valable. Jespère que notre avis sera constructif, ça aurait pu être un endroit où on aurait eu envie de rester plus longtemps si lattitude avait été différente.

Wanted to spend a night and ended up staying 2 weeks! I literally felt like at home. Comfy beds, nice people, and close to the beach. The owner is italian and leads a great example of how to live sustainably on the island. He has long experience living in Thailand. I really enjoyed speaking with him!

I have mix feelings about this place. The establishment itself is fine. Small hostel with comfortable beds and AC. The AC has a time frame where it can be on but its fine. They are good hours.The commun area is a big size with games and books. There is a outdoor patio that also gets the internet. The wifi works well.My issue is with the owner. Hes... Lets say different. From the minute we walk in, he was confrontionnal with us. He was always replying in a rude manner and looking for issues. Thats not how you run a business. I stayed in a lot of hostels and never had that issue with the owrners. They are always friendly and crowd pleasing. He later apologized for our first encounter but was still having an attitude problem as the days went on.Edit: After the reply of the hostel owner, I can definetly see that he doesnt recall our encounter as it was a couple of months ago, it is understandable. We never spoke about the national park and I have no clue what he is talking about with the island tour?My review was just an honest one, I hope he takes it as a learning opportunity and not an insult as I also highlighted positive factors of his establishment.

Me and my GF spent in here 3 night in late June, the place is simple but very clean and with all the essentials (hot shower, air con, cozy beds). The dorm was nice and spacious, WiFi was fast and the owner was one of the nicest person I met during my trip in SEA, always available and ready to help in any matter. We booked here, on advice of the owner, a ka-yacking tour that was by far the best tour we could have choose as most of the snorkelling tour are not available (or just crippledduring the low season. The hostel is located two minutes away from long beach and in the surrounding there are restaurants, bars and convenience stores, everything is a step away. If Im going back to Lanta I would definitely stay here again.

Nice place, simple but very comfortable and clean, fast WiFi all over the place, A/C room and the most comfortable beds I slept in all over South East Asia. The couple that runs the place is nice and helpful, they can help you rent bicycles or motorbikes, booking boat trips, busses, minivans. Highly recommended for somebody that is looking for a budget place with all the amenities.

This is a good place if you are traveling on a budget. Its actually one of the cheapest hostels in ko Lanta. Claudio and his wife are very welcoming and he will give u all the tips you need to manage yourself in the island. Only thing is that rooms are a lil bit crowded.

I spent 2 weeks at the hostaria 239 and I had a great time. Claudio, the owner is very helpful and kind. It was like home for me.Fair price and good location. Very close to the beach.

So, first of all, Ive seen comments about this place as people are reviewing a five-star hotel. Claudios place is perfect if youre searching for a low budget stay in Koh Lanta. Period. Its in a perfect location (5 minutes walk to the beach, 100m to KoHub/motorbike rental, 4 minutes to 7-eleven, 20m to doctor, ...and a really good value for money. You dont expect a five-star experience, but the room was good (with fans), toilets were clean, shower had room-temperature water. Breakfast was great, especially omelettes and sandwiches. Hostaria is a perfect place for a longer stay (2+ weekswith Claudio being the great and very helpful host. Will go there again.

We had a very good time here, the place is cheap, clean and the owner, Claudio, is a real hospitality star, hes gonna make you feel at home as you step into the door. We had breakfast every day and stayed over for dinner for a few nights joining some other guests, the food was really good and the price was more than fair. Recommended! :D

Very cheap during low season (4 € per nightso thats a real good deal to travel on low budget. You have all basics needed (room, fan, shared bathroom). But honestly, the place was too dirty for me. Dust everywhere, the hammock in the entrance looked like theyve been here for ages. The pancakes for breakfast were very good but dont expect a free breakfast. The owner Claudio is very frienfdy though. Two nights were the maximum i could personally handle. But yea, if you dont care so much about property and like gipsy-chill atmosphere, youd may like it..

Great Place, great owner, best breakfast I had in SEA, the rooms are nice, cozy and clean and with a lot of power plugs and light. the toilets are clean and generally all the place is very clean ad well cared. Highly recommended!
