The Yacht Chinese Restaurant - Chinese restaurant in Waitakere, New Zealand
Manager so helpfulFood delicious
A great business starts with a great relationship, giving the fact the with limited staffing and everyone is under a lot of workload pressure. How could it last? Interesting enough to have an disagreement with the Loumian staff. Very arrogant attitude, no hospitality. Best of luck!
First time here. Went with yum char. Would have to say the best! Food came out hot and fresh. Great value. Much cheaper than other local yum char places and by the time the trolley gets to you the food is cold. I recommend The Yacht as a place to visit and opens early which is an advantage.
Standard yum cha with a couple of things I hadnt tried before. Live animals in fish tanks which might be off putting for people who dont want to think about their food once being alive.
Very nice Chinese food!! 😋Good service from our friendly waitress.Robbie the manager was also very friendly. We ordered four courses. The stand-out course being the Braised Lamb with Ginger and Spring Onions on a Hot Plate. 😋Their signature Pork Dish was also nice.We look forward to dining here again soon!! 🤗
Yummy dimsum and price is reasonable.
If you have not tried this place already, YOU MUST GO TODAY! The breakfast lunch menu is fantastic, plenty to choose from (Yum char style). And the dinner menu is hearty and scrumptious!
Food is decent compare to its price. Parking during lunchtime can be quite painful
I now know what yummy food is!! Holy moly this food is amazing! 100/10
Always enjoy eating here. High standard cuisine quick service, especially love the dumplings and steam bbq pork buns.. A long tine customer
Still my favorite yum cha spot and I have been to many. Best price and the quality is good, they do have off days where the steamed pork spare ribs are a little tough but I dont care cause its not often enough. The only real problem for me is there soup dumplings... there always stuck together! I still dont mind though because they taste soooo good!
Love going to yum.cha here. Very down to earth
Clean spacious ambience. Very polite and helpful staff. Yum cha was sumptuous, excellent quality and affordable. Dishes came in orderly intervals which were fresh and warm. Will definitely return and recommend to friends. Also will try out the many interesting dinner menus
Definitely one of the worst experience I had the night before today considering I have been a long term customer. Had a booking at a 7:30 pm and was kicked out by the boss as he “rudely” shouted that they are currently serving phone orders at the moment. Before we got kicked out the first thing he said was “Who are you?!” So is this how customers get served now? Ridiculous! We got in around 7:45 pm and waited a whole hour before the first dish was served! We had repeatedly asked the staff on when our dishes were going to be served but they just kept on saying “ I don’t know, ask the boss” in a rude manner. They had 6 people working in the kitchen and only 1 dish was served every 10 minutes which was not to our table! To sum this up -•Poor customer service•Rude staff•Lack of time management when it comes to serving dishes•Clueless staff
As per review of others. Went along and tried this yum cha. Not bad, bit more of selection would be nice but food comes out hot and tasty. Different from other yum Chas where trolleys of food come out. This one you pick from a list and food comes out from what you ordered. Good concept to save on wastage. Will Definitely come back for another sitting.
My favourite yum cha in Auckland. I live in south, but it won’t stop me coming with my family! I like red rice roll and my daughter loves chicken feet the most. Recommend to everyone. Everyone must try this place. Trust me😋
Came here for dinner. Staff got order wrong. Food is average and inconsistent with photos. Expensive and not good compared to what it used to be like. Stay away from here.
It’s my favorite place for yum cha, fresh & tasty. Some of other yum cha place their food comes from the package, from the Wholesale factory, but this place they make their food in their kitchen. Highly recommend their egg tart, steamed pork short ribs, shrimp dumplings.
I most defiantly wont be back. I am really disappointed with this place. I have been going here for 6 years and the past 3 visits have been nothing short of terrible. I have found a big black hair in my fried dumpling the time before last but yesterday when I went I was very disappointed. We were standing at the door waiting to be seated for 5 mintutes while two staff members were standing on a cockroach to kill it, when we got seated we ordered our food and it came within 1 and a half minutes, we bit into the 5 dishes we had and 4 out of the 5 dishes were cold. I dont mean luke warm I mean very cold. I brought the waitress over who was speaking english to me earlier to say its cold and to send 2 of the dishes back and she then went to tell me she didnt speak english... 5 mins later I said I want it warm this is old and cold, they then brought back 2 dishes that they quickly put in the microwave, one was rice rolls so they got all soggy and the other was crispy squid so that went soggy also. I said this isnt good enough and it tasted very bad coming from a microwave, eventually they asked if i wanted the manager and I said yes, however they never got him they just went and made two new dishes as they knew they would be the ones looking bad in front of the manager. They were very rude and disrespectful the whole time. I went up to pay and the male who I believe was the manager was texting on his phone for a minute and a half before serving us then made a lady do it, they then over charged us $3, I asked what it was for and they pointed at tea. I said no we didnt have tea as we said no to it when we sat down, she then said of its for service..... I was so shocked and at this point mad. We left after paying for a very disappointing meal and even worse customer service. I most defiantly wont be back
Good food, but horrible customer service. We speak very broken Chinese and try explain what we want, and instead get yelled and glared at. Ordered drinks aswell and got ignored and a nod although the server stood there doing nothing. If you don’t speak fluent Chinese you get treated horribly, with very little respect. My 15 year old daughter got a side eye for politely asking them for another side dish. They also walked past our table several times skipping to other tables next to us. Recommend their food, should improve their service for non Chinese speakers.
Nice place to stay in the morning, locate in a busy but quiet business zone. Good dim sum with fair price, lovely Chinese staff full of passion even not good at English. Recommend and support local business!
This place is amazing. Owner is friendly and polite. Always go the extra mile to ensure you have a great dining experience. Awesome menu. Prices are reasonable. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Review for Thursday 7th Jan, 2021.Ive been coming here for a few years and it was always very delicious. However, today marks my last day. They have gone downhill and todays service was shocking. This is what happened today.I came for yumcha lunch with my partner. Were both asians but we dont speak Chinese, except my partner can understand and speak a few words. While I was looking down at the ordering menu, a waitress had come by and asked me a question in Chinese (which turned out to be "which tea would you like?"). I, who dont speak or understand the language, didnt know someone was talking to me (I was looking downand didnt respond. The waitress then waved her hand in my face while saying "hello" in English then asked me the question again in Chinese. I looked at the waitress shocked and confused, unable to utter a word trying to process what just happened. I glanced at my partner who then answered the question on my behalf but the waitress looked at my partner, ignored her answer and looked back at me, waiting for my answer as if the waitress only listens to the man at the table? The waitress then finally asked in English if I wanted jasmine tea and I said yes. After sending in the food order, the entire ordered list of food came out instantly all at once. This means they have every dish (the yumcha dishes onlypre cooked and sitting in their food heater, ready to be served. So basically youre getting food thats been cooked and sitting there for who knows how long, and the food served to us definitely wasnt fresh. The words "shocking" and "disappointing" is still quite generous for this review.Turn around and go elsewhere. You, your stomach and your wallet will thank me later.
Average food but kinda cheap actually
Had lunch first time here on Monday. What a pathetic service! No one was welcoming and even showing us a table. Also, Staff hardly spoke English. Unlike other yum cha places, we had to fill out an order form and hand it to the counter. didnt know that. Should have run out of the run-down restaurant. We were too venturous and hopeful that their food would be great. But they served lukewarm, dried, and flavour lacking dim sum dishes. It was a total disaster. Never go back.

Self service Refill hot water from hot water dispenser. Siew Mai ie pork & prawn combo was tender & well balanced. CrunchyPrawn roll. Soft yam with chopped bbq pork & lightly fried in light batter.
Food is not too bad. Price has steadily increased over the years. It’s the service which gets you - which has steadily been getting worse. Easily wait half an hour for someone to serve you. When they do there’s no apology for the delay. Often they will try and push you to the corners of the restaurant to make space for bigger groups - but then they forget about you. Yum cha is one of my favourite types of food so it’s a shame we have to drive elsewhere than walk to this local.
We bought takeaway dishes from here and the best I could say about the food is that it is average. I didnt order the dishes so I cant say what they were called but I will give a brief description. Two meat dishes with vegetables - one chicken dish, the other beef. There was a lot of Bok Choy & not so much meat - the flavour of both was nice. We had a noodle dish - something like Singapore Noodles but the flavour was very mild. We had fish fillets (but they were chopped into small pieces & batteredand this was with a lemon sauce. The fish was ok but not crispy. Lastly we had Sweet and Sour Pork. Not pleasant to eat. The pork was cut too small and battered, it had been deep fried much too long and was hard to chew. If it was prepared like this all the time I would avoid this dish. My overall opinion based on the food alone, is that I would not go here for a meal.
Did not like pushy waitresses and the waitress we need pull food on our plated we didnt even want. Plus because I am a vegan we ordered Bok Choy which didnt even make it to our table. There were no prices or menus. Will never go there again.
Food are pretty good and variety is there too. Though it says open at 9am but do not expect a full menu that early. We went in at 9.30am but most dimsum are not ready till almost 11am, when it gets busy and people starting to come in. Place is tidy and staffs are friendly generally.
Perfect people for large groups to go and eat. Waiters speak Cantonese also. The cooks here are more from Guangzhou so the food is more true to taste. Good here isn’t to die for but a nice place to eat for large groups.
Been to this place many times over the years and it has been consistently great. The menu is reasonably varied and although some dishes are a little pricey, the quality and portion sizes are spot on. One of Avondales only good Chinese restaurants, in my opinion. Definitely worth a smash.
Like a lot of Chinese places, you dont go for the service. However, the food is at a good price, is tasty and comes out quickly.Yum cha is also good. Booking isnt required but means you get a seat as they are super busy.
Good quality food with a large variety. Prices have risen slowly over the months for YumCha. Service is OK - waiters can be a bit pushy in selling their food. Sometimes we would order dishes but they never come. Parking is very limited in their carpark but there is plenty of street park. I have also had dinner here and only found their food to be average (we ordered peking duck, shrimp balls, some veges and fish). - I would drive further down to Flourishing Cafe for dinner.
Comment June 2017. Since taking over local favorite Wing WA. The yacht still provides great food and service albeit slightly different. My Only 2 gripes were the decor and vegetarian food selection. Decor: The floors are extremely outdated and worse for wear and there is no air-conditioning, not so great when in summer. Could do with a simple revamp!!! For those that dine or are vegetarians there is a minimal selection of Vegetarian Chinese food which may limit the amount of people that come. Overall pretty good.Update 23.11.18:Since my comment above^^ the yacht has replaced their carpet, hired a waitress who understands english and has a good selection of vegan/ vegetarian dishes just ask the owner about the options. Keep up the fab work . The sweet and sour mushrooms and salt and pepper tofu is the bomb!!!
Very yummy and Mon to Fri they have an area for Kids to play, so the adults can eat at the same time supervise kids playing. The only thing you need to compromise is, there arent enough parking space if you have kids to go with, but there are plenty 60min parking on the street during weekdays. Otherwise, everything is good😋
Food is lovely! Parking can be a little annoying but is worth it for the food. Love the beef rice rolls, crispy squid and steamed pork spareribs
Consistently good Yum Char, generous portions and affordable prices.
Yummy dim sum at good value. Clean and tidy areas. Can be busy at peak times so expect a wait time to be seated on the weekends. Parking quite limited on site, but street parking available nearby.
If you know what to order, this restaurant has really good food. A bit on the expensive side for smaller groups but a great option for large gatherings. Service could be improved upon but I am a food first before aesthetics type of person; hence the higher rating.
The food is passable at best. Some things came out barely cooked or looked as though it had been reheated. The service was terrible. We had booked a table for lunch and they confirmed the booking. When we arrived, they asked us if we were sure we booked and couldnt seat us. We got one after awhile waiting but judging from others that arrived, had been told the same thing and were waiting. We asked one of the staff for some extra cutlery from the station behind her. She looked, and told us to get it ourselves. Absolutely horrendous.
Great place to fill up the tank with quality chinese food. The restaurant is usually busy, so reservations are handy if a large group is coming. One or two people are generally all good anytime. Been a regular customer for the past 4 months, never been disappointed.. I would recommend these people to every one - at any time. Will be back for more :)
Super nice Cantonese Yum cha!! Highly recommend!! Will definitely come back when we next time visit Auckland.
Pretty good for a local dim sum stop, not a huge variety but you get what you pay for
Food was not too bad. If you like pork intestines then theirs is quite ok; just a little bit smelly. Today I came with my partner for yum char and the waitress told us to wait. After she finish cleaning up a table, she ask us to come in but instead of giving us the recently cleaned table, she told us to go to another table that havent been clean at the back - and gave the clean table to another couple that came way after us. Not just that, the table that she gave to us is in the stuffy area - you can smell the lingering oil and stale air. As for the waitress, shes busy looking after other customers and tables rather than cleaning up the table she gave to us.Definitely going somewhere else.
Went today with my sister for yum char. The siew mai and prawn dumplings were especially good today. Also the other items we ordered were all delicious and tasty. Been there numerous times and the dim sum is consistently good. So I am surprised to read the not too good reviews. I am glad theres a good yum char place in the west. The manager may not be the most pleasant fellow but I go there to eat.
Went here for dinner. Food and manager was really nice. All was good except for the service. The staff has placed our order on another table, the other customers have already put their hands on our food when the staff realised it was not theirs. The staff has immediately gone back on their table gesturing the other customers to be quiet. She took the plate gone back to the counter pretend nothing happened and served THAT FOOD to us. The staff doesnt look anything near to being sorry of what she did. All the other orders were nice but not going back here. Lost my appetite after that incident. Very poor service.
Since this place changed hands it has gotten way better. Service could always need improvement but its to be expected for a casual Chinese restaurant. Food has gotten way better too, I like heading in for yum char (dim sumhours, usually around 10:00am-2:30pm. If you have had the egg tarts, you have to go for the Portuguese egg tarts. Expect pushy people though, a lot of people cutting queue. I often find that I run into problems with other customers than staff members. Because of the places popularity dont expect available parking in front of the restaurant, theyre often full and the neighbouring stores are an** about parking, limited spaces reserved for each business. I recommended parking on Wingate street.
Delicious food. Well priced. Good service. Always busy on Sundays. Have been there many times and will definitely go there again.
Once known as Wing Wah and since the new owners have arrived, this place serves way better food!
