Innovative modern preparations of local meats and garden-grown veggies in a modern dining room.
There is a hair in my starter and they didn’t say sorry. The food generally quite salty. The fish main course is so so, I won’t don’t recommend it. It’s better value for Sunday roasts. The dessert isn’t as good as a year ago. We like the environment and most of the staffs are friendly.
The most amazing service and absolutely delicious food. Would definitely recommend.
Had a few issues contacting them prior to my last minute booking but that is because I booked last minute and was ringing during a busy service on the day. Turns out on arrival I had also mistakingly booked for the following week but luckily we were seated and looked after by the excellent staff. My wife has a gluten and dairy allergy and she felt at home with the food as they had so many options on their menu, including gluten free Yorkshire pudding and a desert which wasnt just sorbet and fruit which we once had at a Michelin star restaurant! We definitely will be back and are already looking forward to eating there again!
We ate at the restaurant last night (Table of 8 Brewisand I couldnt let today go by without praising your food of course but also your fabulous staff. Their attention to detail is exceptional and no stone is left unturned. One girl in particular really stood out and that was Martha. She is a breath of fresh air and along with being extremely professional, she is so polite, witty and enjoys a bit of banter with the table. Your premises is very lucky to have such a fabulous girl attending to all your customers needs. Nothing was too much trouble and always with a smile.
Amazing dinning experience! Everything was five stars: the service, the food, the wine, the cocktails. The restaurant has beautiful and modern design. Youll want to send a long time there.I recommend to spend some time in the bar area and try cmtheir cocktails. I had a Whiskey sour that was quite unique, with a cherry touch - and it was delicious.
Great food. Good service & location.
Super find, as we are from outside the area. Lovely spot and a great value set lunch with quality ingredients and excellent presentation. Helpful and knowledgeable staff enhanced the experience too.
Absolutely amazing, stellar .. words dont do it justice. I cant recommend this restaurant enough. Please make it your destination. The place has a nice, modern decor, with attention to detail. The staff is friendly and very professional.
We have just had the most wonderful Sunday lunch for my birthday, attentive and excellent food, took great care of us as a member of the family is gluten intolerant, once we told them it needed to be gluten free, they made sure she was informed every step of the way of what had gluten and what could be modified. Definitely going back
Super food, well presented and good value. Service as ever was excellent.
Came for lunch last month. Wonderful experience from the start. Staff friendly and nothing too much trouble for them. It was fascinating to watch the slick and quiet way that the whole operation was run. The food wasn’t bad either.😂😂 No the food was excellent!!!
Went here for my 30th Birthday, food is absolutely delicious would go back in a heartbeat.Service is fantastic, cocktails were delicious. Loved everything about it!
Sadly I dont think I chose the right dish..chargrilled beef medium rare. It was way too rare for me. The staff are lovely but would I pay that much for the food I had?..no.
Excellent. Could not fault this restaurant at all. Staff were welcoming, helpful and service was quick. Food was excellent as you would expect from a chef school. Ample parking. Building is well laid out with plenty of space between tables. Optional outside dining under cover as well. We will definitely be going back.
Beautiful restaurant with exceptional service. The ingredients were beautifully fresh and perfectly prepared. The meal was let down by the fillet steak being completely unseasoned. It also lacked any real flavour from the cooking process and was essentially a large piece of tasteless meat. Maybe the sauce was meant complement it but it didn’t work.
My 2 friends and I came to the Woodspeen for lunch today and to celebrate my birthday. I have been before but my friends havent. They were really impressed with the food, the service and the friendliness of the staff. We wouldnt hesitate to recommend The Woodspeen to everyone. It is quite expensive but if you want to celebrate a special occasion The Woodspeen is for you.
Lovely atmosphere and superb service. Decor with the right amount of style and comfort. Memorable meal all round
Wow what a restaurant. From the moment you arrive the staff are nothing but perfect. Attentive just enough that you are always looked after and never pestered. The bar area has a wonderful atmosphere to enjoy a drink before or after you dine and the main dining room is lovely and light. The food is amazing as expected and the wine list has lots of good options for all budgets.
Absolutely fantastic restaurant... Food was outstanding and the cocktails and wine were great too...Fantastic staff and lovely atmosphere
Great food and atmosphere.Service is ok.
Fabulous restaurant, top quality food and service
Delicious meal with fresh seasonal produce. Great atmosphere. Good value for money. Definitely worth a visit.
I like the restaurant atmosphere. Maybe coming here for a casual lunch is a better idea. The food itself is average. The way they cook dishes is standard and boring. Like a person, a good restaurant should have more of its personality.
An amazing local restaurant for us, never disappointed and food creative but always incredibly tasty.
Incredible. Highly recommended. Chic and modern interior with Michelin star food and impeccable service. Everything I had was faultless. I even went for a dessert, which I wouldnt normally do, but I couldnt not see if they were infallible. They are.Scallops and pork cheek starter with apple and garlic. Butternut squash lasagne with sweet chili broccoli and BBQ cabbage. Almond cake with blackberries. 101% we will return 👌
Had a fabulous, relaxed lunch on New Years Day. The food and drinks were absolutely delicious. The service struck the nice balance between efficient, attentive, and friendly. Its always a delight to see so much attention to detail - the homemade crisps, the interesting and tasty cocktails (including non-alcoholic options that are equally interesting), and of course the flavoursome foods packed with local, seasonal ingredients. What a lovely way to start our year! Were already planning another visit...
Calm mature setting with jazz music playing (perhaps a little loudly for mein the background. Good social spacing and for us an excellent view of the kitchen service preparation area. Photos of food speak for themselves 🙂
Excellent service wonderful food and overall had a great time here
Another superb evening. Wonderful hospitality and delicious food that was beautifully presented. Venison was outstanding as was the cod. Highly recommend scallops for the starter too.
1st time visitors. Birthday treat for me. Will definitely be back soon. Very attentive staff. Great to be able to see all the action in the kitchen too.
Wow. Food fantastic, staff friendly and couldnt do enough for you. Good value for money. Highly recommend
Just the best restaurant for miles around. Great food and service in a lovely environment.Worth a special trip for special occasions.
Delicious food and a great value lunchtime set menu. The service was exceptional, friendly and very attentive. Highly recommended.
Recommended this place by some friends and didnt disapoint amazing service, brilliant drinks options, delicious food. Sitting outside on the terrace was really nice. 10/10
Stunning food and best service Ive found in Newbury. Lovely staff.
Disappointing. That is all I can think when describing this place. Beautifully decorated restaurant in a lovely location with a cooking schools and a vegetable patch. However, the food is at best mediocre and service was extremely poor. Incredibly hard to get a table considering that this restaurant was only half full. The dessert was the best part of the meal.
Outstanding meal with seasonal produce. Good pairing suggestions from the team for wine to go with main courses and dietary requirements catered for without detracting from the menu.Probably one of the best vegan and soya free deserts Ive ever tasted!
Food was fantastic! I didnt get to take photos of the total meal... As I was too busy eating. But trust me, it was exquisite!
Beautiful venue, beautiful menu and the most incredible food. Just choose the right wine, a dash of good company and youll have found perfection. Absolutely wonderful. Go there now, youll be glad you did.
Amazing food, great friendly service and you cant miss trying the homemade gin. Well worth a visit if you are in the area.
The food was really delicious, well presented. The service was wonderful and despite restrictions was a lovely relaxed atmosphere while keeping people safe.
The Mothers Day chef in a box experience was great! The menu was delicious and the instructions for reheating and plating were clear with the online video and the labelling of all the products. We love visiting the Woodspeen but this was a good option with the current restaurant closures. Were looking forward to visiting again soon.
Great service. Delicious food in a contemporary setting. Covid restrictions are well observed. Extensive wine list. Recommended. I havent been but I have heard the cookery school is excellent.
Our first trip to The Woodspeen. Id like to caveat this review - we dined in September 2020 (COVID-19and that we ate the lunch menu, an astonishingly good value £27 for three courses. The wine and cocktail list at the bar was great, though our first small grievance is the lack of a sommelier, perhaps a lunchtime quirk - we comfortably knew more about pairing wine than the waiting staff. This is something weve not experienced before in a starred establishment. That said, the cocktails were great, including those without alcohol. Stylish and presented with flair in the cosy, comfortable bar area. The lunch menu itself - sublime. Using cheaper cuts of meat (e.g. Beef cheek, ham hock, etcbut with no reduction in flavour or panache. Certainly no complaints with the food, other than perhaps the compote was a little underwhelming compared to the other courses (or the delicious chocolate parfait).Overall, were very impressed and will be back to sample the a la carte menu.
Another fantastic meal at The Woodspeen. Always surprised by the level of service and also the casual feeling of dining here. Service was perfect. social distancing was great with the option to sit outside or inside. Food was excellent.
Entries are well prepared and delicious. Amazing bread to start with. Main course is well made with interesting flavours. Dessert are good. All made with top ingredients. The service is very good.Portions are small, so go for entries if youd like to be full. Good variety of wine. The decor is contemporary and pleasant.Good private parking available.Definitely one of our favourites in south east UK.
We had a tremendous extended Sunday lunch at the Woodspeen today, and it wasn’t just about the food, though both the dishes pictured, a Jerusalem artichoke based starter and a brill main, were in themselves exceptional. Friends coming from London were unfortunately trapped for a very long time on the M4 and (without knowing us at all n.b.yet in the middle of a full service literally every member of the Woodspeen team made first us, then our friends, thoroughly welcome. What a wonderful spot this is, and a reminder if any were needed that people make a great restaurant. A fine dining experience in every sense of the word...
Amazing meal, food was fabulous, staff were also fabulous. A lovely treat for our wedding anniversary, thank you for a super evening. Heartilly recommend. We will be back.
The Woodspeen is a fantastic Michelin star restaurant with attentive staff and a warm and comfortable environment. There is a "cloakroom-styled" space for leaving coats and belongings and a cozy bar area inside for pre-meal relaxation. The restaurant area itself is stylish and the tables are spaced at good intervals. The food is well-cooked with delicate presentation, with portions being adequate, but not too much. The bathrooms are clean and warm. The staff in the restaurant are extremely attentive to their guests, but not so much that it is overwhelming. Food prices are, as you would expect, relatively high. Expect to spend well in excess of £200 for a three-course meal for four people. However, this is more than worth it for the experience. Overall, I have loved every time I have been here and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good dining experience.
From stepping through the door, the experience begins. The staff are so attentive and though its really busy you still get a first class personal service. The wine list is fenominal, as well as the beers; plus they have a great selection non-alcoholic cocktails. The quality of the food speaks volumes for itself...enough said...In summary, a wonderful gastronomic train ride from beginning to end... recommend you get on board!
