Family-and-dog-friendly pub with rustic, seasonal British food, an open fire and leather sofas.
Classic authentic pub, great roast & service.
Really good food. They found us a table even when they were booked busy. Great staff
Good food, drinks, and kind and attentive staff!
Probably the best pub meal I’ve had in years. The steaks were cooked to perfection, the lamb was the best my Son has ever eaten and all the meals my family ate.. were amazing. The staff were attentive and we really couldn’t praise our visit here highly enough. Thoroughly recommend a visit here.
Fantastic food and very friendly staff. Thankfully it’s just round the corner from us, so can’t wait to visit again very soon
Really bad service, waited ages to be served and the orders were wrong. We left after the starters.
The Woodman is up there amongst my favourite pubs in London. It offers the atmosphere of a countryside pub in the heart of London. That said, you don’t feel like you’re in the heart of London because the pub is located on such a quaint, unassuming street. This is not a place you will stumble upon, and as a result you must know about it to find it.Despite its hard-to-find location, it is usually busy. It is a locals/regulars spot and often you see familiar faces, so you know it is good. The service is warm and welcoming. They even have pictures of their regulars on the walls (who sit in front of their pictures when they visit I might add). The food is excellent. I’ve visited The Woodman several times and it never disappoints. I’ve introduced it to several of my friends too and have hosted a couple birthdays and large-ish gatherings. Everyone always compliments it and many return, even if it is out of the way.I highly recommend this place. But don’t go with an agenda. Go there to relax, enjoy the delicious food, great wine and lovely atmosphere. I’m confident you won’t be disappointed.
Ordered fish and chips. Received food with the oil dripping onto the plate. Not acceptable. Waiter was rude and dismissive.Whilst the manager offered chips he was dismissive. I have been here previously with usually no issue. However the waiter decided to mention an issue I had over a year ago with an undercooked burger. For the remainder of the evening our table was ignored. This was very unprofessional and disappointing.Unfortunately the service and attitudes of staff spoilt what was supposed to be a nice evening. Reading other reviews poor service its not uncommon. Customer service training is definitely needed. Its letting the pub down.
Amazingly spacious and friendly staff. Nice outdoor area.
Gastropub with a sun trap of a beer garden.
Great pub with great food options. Nice that the specials change regularly. It is on the expensive side, but the quality is really good so worth it for a treat. Drinks menu is good with a large range available. They’ve got indoor and outdoor seating as well so lots of option there.
Great food! neighborhood pub vibe, worth a visit
I live very close so am a regular customer. The food is usually very good for a pub, the main thing being that it’s the most expensive pub food around, but one does get a large portion. Fine.Today we arrived and the pie and mash was delicious, better than one would expect from a pub. However, the burger and chips was completely dry. I mentioned it to two waiters, both told me rather quickly, almost as a knee jerk reaction that they’d just eaten it themselves and it was fine. No apology. The second waiter I found problematic as he engaged in arguing with me, saying that I should’ve asked for sauce for the burger, as people like it like that, and that they make the chips that dry because they have to cater for everyone; also saying that I should tell them in advance how long I would like the chips to be cooked for! I sent back the plate uneaten, and I received no apology and only argument. For someone who has been a regular customer for almost five years this is the last time. It was a frankly rude and inconsiderate experience. Such a shame.
As pubs go, a better selection of low alcohol beer would be a definite improvement
Fabulous, traditional pub with great food! Well worth a visit
Service dreadful and manager’s customer relations extremely poor. No coffee because ran out of cups and plates left lying on the table for 15 mins. We had to ask for the dessert menus. Would not recommend.
We went here for the roast and I have to say the Vegan nut roast is possibly the best vegan meal I have ever had!The Woodman always impresses and last night was no exception.
Lovely food, amazing oysters and fish. Just wished the service was faster, but I highly recommend. Very satisfied overall.
Terrible service, amazing food. Waited a ridiculous amount of time, no organisation or courtesy and had to be very assertive just to get a drink, in a pub...
My favourite pub in London. I’ve been going for years. Went last night and the food was the best ever. Absolutely yum…
The food was fantastic. The service was appalling. Its such a shame as the back of house team is creating fantastic meals but the front of home team is not delivering. I dont think any waiting staff were assigned to areas, we had a different staff members each time someone came to us. Everything just to a long time...had to fight for someones attention for everything. Waited for cutlery for main..We ordered second drinks and they never came but were on the bill. We sat with empty plates for 25 mins after our mains with waiters just walking past not noticing. As the night went on we just got more and more annoyed. 12.5% service charge added we asked for it to be removed as well as the drinks that never arrived. Its such a shame as Im a local and I would come here all the time if the service had been better. Please sort it out, have someone managing the front of house and get your staff to communicate with customers better. Bad experience and left us deflated, disappointed and unvalued as customers.
Outstanding food for a pub. Individually the best pate, calamari and scotch eggs Ive ever had. Outrageously good duck for mains.
Lovely Pub, nice staff and a good Sunday Roast we had the Beef but the Pork looked good too. The sticky toffee pudding was lovely too but I forgot to take a picture of it.
We attended Oyster festival last Friday and had a fantastic evening. Great food, spacious pub, live opera was a nice touch. All staff with great personality and attitude. Located outside all hustle and bustle of Battersea but well worth a very short walk. 12 min stroll from Clapham junction.great place to unwind with friends.
Ideas of grandeur that are not backed up with quality and value for money. We visited The Woodman pub on a whim for Sunday lunch. Admittedly we hadn’t booked so we had to accept whatever table the staff could find and they found us a table in the bar area. I ordered the belly pork and my partner ordered the poussin (aka chicken), plus a pint of ale and a half pint ale shandy. The beer was nice. When the food arrived the belly pork was about three inches square and consisted of a layer of meat about 1/4 of an inch thick attached to an inch thick layer of fat which was attached to some crackling. The chicken was worse! The bird had been dead for far too long, it smelt of decay and was inedible.Besides the high prices and poor quality of the food, what we also found galling was that we were sat in the bar area and nobody came near us to ask if we were happy with the meal but they still slapped a “service charge” onto the bill.
Very friendly and attentive staff. They even welcomed our dog! The Sunday lunch we had was excellent. The portions were extremely generous and cooked to perfection. And the ale is good too
We had a great time here, atmosphere was really nice, decor etc. Service was good, could be slightly better with providing menus for deserts but wasnt too annoying. What was really disappointing was the roast... the beef was a little over whilst the fat hadnt rendered. The roast potatoes were REALLY disappointing. Perhaps frozen and warmed through or kept for a day? That + the Yorkshire puddings being closer to an Aunt Bessie than the big yorkshire beauties Ive seen in the gallery and in some reviews. Maybe chef was off but still, roastie game was poor!
Nothing to say but the best of everything the service, food , atmosphere, setting and location of the Woodman pub. I grew up in the location which has always been a beautiful and exciting place to be, by having the Woodman only enhances the location more , I now live in Croydon but Woodman Battersea will always be my first and only choice. To the lovely staff who attended to myself and friends thank you 💫
Great place Great people and Great food. Was made to feel very welcome and at home.Enjoyed the breakfast so much we went back the following day for Sunday lunch.Total value for money. Thank you for the great hospitality
Great Sunday Lunch in the neighbourhood - we really enjoyed our time in the Woodman today. Friendly waiters are serving an impeccable Sunday roast. Everything we had was good, the Negroni from the bar, their home made bread, the first course platters and obviously the roast and its trimmings. A great local pub with a very pleasant atmosphere in a still lesser known area of London. Fair prices too.
We feel so fortunate to have such a great local as The Woodman. Its an excellent pub with a lovely warm decor, great garden area and absolutely delicious food. We have eaten here a few times and on Saturday at their Summer Party we had the grilled prawns and Asian coleslaw and the duck and both dishes were very tasty. The staff are friendly and efficient. Highly recommended!
We’ve been coming here for years. Excellent atmosphere with a jolly clientele. We feel very safe here with stringent attention to Covid safety. Great food, especially hamburgers and OYSTERS! Highly recommend it!Shakespeare
This is absolutely everything I love in a pub, it feels like a slice of the countryside in the heart of the city. Its a proper family run pub, with one of the owners operating as the head chef. The food is outstanding, and its clear that the owner is passionate about what he serves to the customers. Their oysters are some of the very best Ive had, their guinness is well kept, and their sunday roasts are superlative. I cannot compliment them enough. Its sort of my local as my girlfriend lives there, and I absolutely love going there for lunch or dinner. The staff are warm and friendly, and it has a wonderfuly relaxed laid back vibe. A real South London gem!
Last couple of meals here have been excellent. Lemon sole and trout last night were both well executed and delicious as were the desserts. Was also here for a veggie Sunday roast a few weeks back and it was great. Have been coming to this local pub for a few years on and off and Id say the food is the best its ever been, as is the service.
The food was fantastic and really well priced and the service was really good. When we were leaving we found out its family owned/run by the whole family which added even more charm to the place. Bathrooms were really clean and the beer garden is lovely. Cant wait to visit again for the oyster festival.
Really great experience here, went last night with family, staff were so lovely and kind. Dogs are allowed in and the staff will fawn over them creating a really warm and welcoming atmosphere. Food was exceptional.
This is the best pub and restaurant in south London! Friendly, smiling and great food!! A must visit
First time visit and rather impressed. Service nicely understated, wine yummy, not cheap but good and smoky. Food very good. I had ox cheek bougenon. Friend had steak and red wine pie. Shes a regular there. Deserts were Apple and blackberry crumble and custard. The other was chocolate fudge cake. Both were good. A very enjoyable meal
The steaks were cooked to perfection and very attentive service. You need a pub? You got a pub! You need a quality restaurant? You got a restaurant! You need a beer garden with a pizza oven? You got that too! No compromises. Will certainly come back again to try their oysters.
We booked for Sunday lunch and I have to say the food was excellent. My only recommendation would be more gravy on the roasts. There were a few let downs with the experience- we pre booked a few days in advance but were placed on a table which was crammed between a wall, bar and fireplace.-buggys were parked in front of a fire exit.-not enough bar staff. They seemed understaffed and those who were on were stressed or unhappy. Also showing signs for mulled wine, but then didnt have any available.- table service was poor. We suspect this was down to us being outside of the main dinning space, but after our initial order was taken, it was like we were forgotten. I had to ask the team to come and follow up a few times (pudding menu, order, the bill)-the bill was wrong when it came.We were taking guests for lunch, so didnt say anything at the time, but overall disappointing and not what I would have expected from The Woodman.
Little gem in the heart of Battersea, less than one minute walking from the square.Amazing food and real Ale.Scotch eggs are to die for, not to mention the speacials of the night (fish Fridayscallops and monkfish tail 🤩🤩🤩.Have a look at the burger by yourself, big, juicy and perfectly cooked. They serve fresh oysters. I think I may have found my new local pub.Staff is very professional and they really look after you without being indiscreet or intrusive.Definitely it needs to be visited again.
Great place with really nice food. Some of the best pub sandiwches I have tried, recommend the steak sandwich. Very welcoming and nice traditional decoration. Very large inside which is deceptive from the front. Would recommend making the trip.
Always an outstanding experience, from the drinks selection to the quality and variety of the meals, but most of all the service. This is a family-owned pub, and you can appreciate the attention to detail and the highest standards. This was our favourite place to pop over for a pub lunch, and since we recently held our wedding reception there, I feel I can safely say theres no way to go wrong with them.
I like the Woodman. It feels like a friendly local pub. Prices are very reasonable. £3.75 for a pint of best bitter! There were 7 of us for Sunday lunch. Again keenly priced at around £15 I think. Great for all ages. A very civilised venue.
Great food. Good selection of meat and fish. We had the Salt and pepper squid to share as a starter. Then the roasted hake and the lamb and rosemary pie as mains. Everything was really tasty. Good portions. Interesting selection of beers. Beer garden at the back nicely decorated. Friendly staff.
Great service, excellent food and portions. Highly recommend. Very warm and cosy place for any winter day 😊
Fabulous fresh food, lovely service from Paola very polite and sweet. Definitely coming back. Greatness is in the details. Well done guys!
Great little pub, short walk from our Airbnb and within walking distance from bus stops nearby. Service was good, food tasty, and decent selection of local beers.
Awesome and quiet. A bit pricey sometimes. Cosy atmosphere, a bit dark maybe. Nice food and beer garden with huge pizza oven. They even have Oysters! The fried squid are excellent and must try! Not a big selection of beers though.
Bright and happy atmosphere, community friendly with a great restaurant serving good variety of dishes from great pizza to scrumptious roasts & everything in between. Reasonable prices too. Outside seating available & very popular in summer months.
