The Windsor Castle - Pub in Victoria, Chile
Very quiet on a Saturday afternoon. Really beautiful inside. Large function room at the back. Sam Smiths pub
Was better as The Cardinal - can be a bit dead some nights. Needs carpets imo.
Awesome space and good drinks but didnt have any food at the time as the kitchen was closed
Will never be back. Why? #1- walked in at 5:00 and asked when the kitchen was open, he said 5:30. We found a table and it was covered it beer, I asked him to wipe it down and he mocked me, and just dragged a dirty cloth over it so it was sticky the entire time we were there. The beer was decent. But we ordered 1 order of fish and chips and it took FORTY minutes. Im sorry but I was so angry at that point and was about to ask for a refund when the food finally came. I asked him what time the kitchen opened and he said 5:00, so we waited 30 minutes for nothing, and I knew that because we started to see people get food before 5:30. The second server was super polite and I vented to him and apologized for it, but that other guy needs an attitude adjustment.
It use to be a great pub with nice Samuel Smith beer and spirits. Not sure who is managing this pub now but ladies toilets had no toilet paper or hand soap the last time we visited and the guy behind the bar disappeared while people were waiting for a drink as we were leaving. We saw him walking back to the pub as we was walking down the road
Terrific pub. The service was excellent and a great choice of beers. Glad to see so many people enjoying it as well. Will be back again and again, cheers
Lovely Sam Smiths pubMore hand pull cask needed IMO
Amazing building. Unfortunately it a Sam smith pub and only sells there own beers and spirts. No coke no Bacardi. Very poor Caesar salad. Just iceberg lettuce and 4 anchovies. That’s it ! 10 pounds
Today a friend and I went to The Windsor Castle for drinks, happened to meet the new Chef at the bar who convinced us to have food. What a great recommendation. The fish and chips was divine and the pie and mash even better. Will be back again!
Came in for Sunday lunch today. The pork was pink and cold and floppy so I sent it back and asked for chicken instead. The waiter came back and said all he could do was to get the chef to heat up the pork which was dangerously raw. No refund was offered (you have to pay in advance). As a local resident who uses this pub often I was very disappointed.
Lovey traditional pub tucked out of the way. Kept in that traditional style as the wonderful Sam Smiths Brewery insist. And as a bonus to all those who seek it, great beer at an extraordinarily cheep price! Enjoy (Definitely one for those that seeking tradition.)
Its a nice old fashioned interior. However, Sam Smiths pubs used to outcompete on price. This is no longer noticeable. So youre paying normal prices for the Sam Smiths restricted selection of options. Also, I had to ask for my pint to be topped up. That was possibly the first time Ive ever asked for this in a pub, showing how extreme it would have to have been to cause my action. My second pint wasnt much better, with no endeavour to reach the top of the glass. So the beer price has jumped up, and they wont even pour you the pint paid for.Times are changing, can Sam Smiths maintain relevance?
Went for the Samuel Smith ale which was unavailable :( went for the lager and standard pub food.
one very slow barman, there was a group of 10 off us waiting for him to agonisingly slowly pour a pint for one person. and there were like 8 people in front on us. we abandoned our booking.
Sam Smith pub with quite a nice interior with lots of comfy leather sofas. Its relatively quiet compared to other pubs around Victoria.
Two largers for 9.8, so not so cheap as written in other reviews. Tables kind of sticky. Still a nice pub though.
Been in several times recently mainly in early evening.Regularly understaffed - for example 16 June 19:30 only one barman who was trying to both serve drinks and take food out.
The best pub in the area. Would (and have!recommend
Lovely decor, very nice room at the back of the pub which is very nice though can get a bit loud at peak times. I definitely recommend this place.
Very lovely old fashioned pub. Full of character. Not a huge selection of drinks but just lovely
The best fish and chips I have ever had! Dessert was awful though.
Staff were friendly and helpful, drinks are very reasonably priced, and the venue itself is absolutely beautiful.
Walking into this pub is like stepping back in time. Into Victorian London. And I mean that in a good way. It’s been beautifully restored with fantastic glass and wood partitions. Lots of nooks and crannies to get cosy in. Love the fact there’s no music too. I’ve only just heard about the draconian “no phone” policy and must have snuck under the radar when I was there. Otherwise these photos wouldn’t have been possible!
Great Sam Smiths pub option, now doing a Sunday Roast - Great venue in a strong traditional victorian style suitable for the area it is based.
An atmospheric pub, perfect for meeting friends.
Had a quiet lunchtime drink here with a friend. Friendly chatty staff and a great selection of Sam Smith beers in the best of Victorian surroundings.A real gem of a pub.
Great pub always busy with locals looking for an after-work drink. The pub itself is a Samual Smith pub so dont expect the usual Heineken, Amstel, or Guinness on tap but dont let that stop you from trying their really tasty beers, even if its not your go-to pint. This pub has Samuel Smith beers and liquors only. Atmosphere wise, this is a great, old pub, well worth a visit
I am somewhat of a regular at The Windsor Castle, but never tried the food and probably for a good reason. Sam Smiths beers are great, but the food was not even hot and probably similar to the Wetherspoons quality. Oh no, wait, there is free ketchup in Wetherspoons, but at the Windsor Castle youll be rudely reminded that its 25p, despite that this is not even listed in the menu. The place just got worse over the years...
!! DO NOT GO HERE - ESPECIALLY WITH KIDS !!I went here whilst on holiday with two of my sons and my wife. My eldest son is autistic and nonverbal, and as such uses AAC on a tablet to communicate. We were aware of the no phones rule, as made clear by the overzealous amount of signs explaining it - we thought that they might be able to make an exemption, as the signs say about the pubs being a "haven for social conversation" - which due to my sons disability cannot be done without a portable device. One of their extremely aggressive staff came up to us and, very loudly, pointed out this rule. We explained to them about our sons condition, and they again, very loudly, said that they couldnt make an exemption. We went back and fourth with this disgusting member of staff, for them to finish off by saying, in essence that children should be seen and not heard! What the hell!!!I know that they advertise themselves as an "old fashioned" branch of pubs, but this made it feel like being back in the 1800s! Completely unacceptable.
What a good pub. Not sure how busy it gets mid week but a few free tables Saturday afternoon and I enjoyed a pint by the fire. Very unspoiled inside and barmaid friendly. Will call in again.
Cracking London pub - typical of the style in this part of London. Nice atmosphere and serving a great range of beers - I enjoyed a lovely pint of Stout. Well worth a quick one at lunchtime or a few in slower time after work.
Pretty Sam Smiths pub, serving great independent beer (including some cracking good lagers). One of my favourite spots for a pint in Victoria.
Ive not been in here for a long time but it is a nice pub, staff friendly and ale good, my only criticism is the lighting, if you want a quiet pint and read the paper, bring a miners lamp with you..
Beautiful old school Sam Smiths boozer in a quiet road behind Victoria. They have the full range of Sam smiths beers and decent pub grub, only a small outdoor area at the front though.
A nice Sam Smiths pub. Being London, they dont enforce the chains usual no-phone rule and they do accept card payments. Drinks significantly more expensive than Sam Smiths outside London.Staff were very friendly and the service was great, beer is top-notch. I had a sandwich which was good and reasonably priced.Lovely ambience in an old building, its a nice area too.
Fantastic pub! A really great Sam Smiths pub, yet to find one I don’t really like! Great selection of all the beers you could ever want to see in a London pub, you won’t be disappointed. Food not too bad too! Lively energy with the post work crowd on evenings and more relaxed feel at weekend. Old-fashioned booths are great for a more private catchup or meeting in a small group and there is also a large room available at the back of pub which I think they also hire out.
Decent pub, nicely situated away from the main road, friendly, competent staff and a large establishment with several distinct areas making social-distancing easier than in many other places.Draught drinks are all their own brewery (Sam Smith/Tadcasterbut I like their cider and my mates have always found something in their ranges to drink, so thats not really a problem for most people. Prices are decent enough.
Top quality Edwardian glass palace pub behind Victoria Cathedral. Beautiful to look inside. Sam Smiths beer and no iphones laptops or ipads allowed. Pucker.
Not bad pub at all. Sam smiths so the beer is reasonably priced and reasonably terrible. The manager and staff are a nice bunch. Good interior, like most Sam Smiths pubs, but this one is bigger. With lots of nooks. And a big, slightly dingy back room. Lovely hidden location behind Victoria.
No phones policy is utter rubbish. They literally pulled pints out of people’s hands and physically pushed them out of the pub and caused my partner to break down in tears after they shouted at us. They stopped serving and rang the bell and locked everyone in.. and me out without a coat... at 8.30pm. This place has gone total bonkers! AVOID
A nice pub with a nice selection of drinks. However, the manager gave me the most terrible experience I had in my life with pub staff. He is aggressive, demanding and stubborn, all of these with paying customers.Avoid going there regularly.EDIT: The owner is mistaking me with someone else, because me and my friends are not teenagers, and now showcasing his terrible management again by attempting to assume the moral high ground by calling his customers review "a fabrication of truth" and "unjust and unfair" from the start, instead of even attempting to figure out what my problem was. They did not tell us to leave because "we were spoiling the environment". We made a booking to the upstairs area, and chose to leave after one of us, who did not want to drink alcohol for the moment, only asked for a soda, to which the owner responded that they wont serve us upstairs unless ALL of us drink alcohol and multiple rounds of it. If we were young teenagers, as the owner said it in his response, we could now start a serious law suit of attempting to force multiple under-aged people to drink alcohol.I understand if the pub has policies that require minimum consumption for booking upstairs, but we have not been informed of anything like that in advance. However, even if such policy exists for this pub, making aggressive demands to an individual of our group because he didnt immediately go for an alcoholic drink is NOT an acceptable form of informing us.
This place looked lovely, but the owner/manager is absolutely horrible, extremely rude and unpleasant, believe it or not, you arent allowed to use and technology in here, no phones, tablets, anything, cant listen to your music on headphones, and if youre not aware of this rule, the unbelievably rude and unpleasant owner explains it very nasties, I was unaware of this whilst in there, so I took my beer outside as I was having a conversation on the phone, where the owner followed me out and said no phones inside and no beer outside! Honestly, I was stunned, I went back in to finish my beer after ending my very important call, and spoke to various members of staff about the policy, they all said they cant discuss it as they will be fired and theyre all scared and unhappy 😲😲😲, no joke, DO NOT GO HERE, you cant do anything, the manager is rude and the staff hate it and are scared, without question the worst and most unpleasant bar in the Pimlico and Victoria area, simply because of 1 man, or dictator in his own eyes I would imagine, there are literally 40 bars within 600 meters, please go to any one of them and enjoy yourself, because this place will ruin your afternoon/evening/week and month, I just hope the people above him read this and change the management, otherwise I give this place 1 year tops before its closed, if I could give 0 stars I would
I always find myself coming across this pub by chance but whenever I do it truly exceeds expectations.Strangely I’ve only ever been here during the afternoons, which at that time is so serene as to be absurd in London. The staff are all very efficient, friendly, hilarious, and knowledgable. The food is astonishingly delicious, it seriously couldn’t be improved - as pub grub goes - and fantastic value for money.
Lovely quiet Sam Smiths pub. Real fires. Kid-friendly. Plate glass dividers. Nice fish and chips. Friendly staff. Yes.
Lovely Sam Smiths pub. Oddly, Ive been coming to this area for years, but have only just discovered this and Ill be coming back. All thats good about Sam Smiths (or bad, if you dont like Sam Smiths pubs), plus really friendly staff and a local feel.
Good comfortable pub. Wide selection of drinks but none of the usual main brands or craft brands. Very reasonable prices and lots of seating arrangements indoors. Clean and tidy. They also serve food but we didnt have time to try any so cant comment on that.
Fantastic through and through. The decor is very classic with dark wood. Located in a quiet residential area that does not produce a lot of foot traffic. Great place for lunch after visiting Buckingham Palace. The beef pie and mushroom strudel were both quality examples of pub food. Great service.
Great traditional pub next to the cathedral of Westminster. Pies are handmade and delicious and the cheesecake is exceptional! It has a various selection of Samuel Adams beers. Its affordable for the location. Great for a bite or a pint after visiting some iconics buildings around.
Food was ok. We had to wait a long time (45 minsfor food over lunch today as there was an issue in the kitchen. I had chilli con carne which was actually ok but everyone else’s was pretty standard.Top tip, don’t order a Bloody Mary.I think this pub would be fine for local beer drinkers.
Nicely decorated classy pub, good selection of beers, service can be a bit slow
