The Wilderness Center in Canton

Our family went for the Enchanted Forest fall event. It was terrific! Everything so wonderful and organized and the walk and surroundings were stunning! Recommend highly! The outside observatory was educational and breathtaking to see the planets , moon and stars and galaxies.

A beautiful nature preserve with great hiking trails. Though the trailers are shorter, together the various trails provide around 10 miles of scenic hiking trails.The Interpretive Lodge has various nature exhibits, bathrooms, and a gift shop. There are picnic pavilions on site as well.A beautiful slice of rural Ohio!

This is a nice a little park. The section marked as old growth is nice. If you are expecting to see something like an old growth redwood forest though, you will be disappointed. Theyre big and relatively old for Ohio. Im still happy it was spared development and added to the Old Growth Forest Network. There is very little land in Ohio that hasnt been logged, farmed, or developed at some point over the last 2 centuries. It is surprisingly difficult to find examples of what the forest was like here before european settlement.Be careful on the road that leads to the entrance. Its unpaved and has some really big pot holes. The road was quiet when I visited so I was able to drive around or straddle all of them.

Nice nature center. They have hiking trails and a couple of ponds to. Trails are well maintained.

Easy to find. Lots of parking. Lots of trails and options for different interests. Tends toward wilderness and natural scenery rather than manicured displays.

::::Caution:::::: Make sure to take route 250 to Alabama Ave!! The side roads in the area are Amish dirt roads, rough and hilly. The Wilderness Center is located in Amish country, please drive slow and watch out for horses.Wilderness center is a great place to hike and visit. Theres a lot of nice loop trails and education opportunities for kids. Great place for a family with young children.

Very relaxing family friendly place with great scenery

Pleasant Spring day for being out and about .Center was closed.But a walk to the lake and surrounding area .Our dog enjoyed the Geese .Photos for the files .Spring is creeping in limited green ,but random signs indicate the season change .

Our family has been going to the Wilderness Center for Decades. It is a fantastic place for kids to play and learn.

This place is a fantastic little wilderness center. Not only do the have educational play areas for the kiddos, there are live animals, and a wildlife watching station with plenty of seating for social distancing. The gift shop is nice as well and has both educational materials for purchase but also snacks and clothes promoting the wilderness center, I really love my long sleeve shirt I purchased from them. The trails are great as well. I will say that none of the trails are paved, but theyre very well maintained and easy to follow. I would totally recommend this place for a family with young children or your more casual hiker.

Very nice place to hike, even when the building is closed. There is a restroom thats always open. Miles of hiking trails, ponds with ducks and geese and lots of benches along the trails. Leashed dogs are welcome on the trails across the road from the building.I should also mention that if you like to Geocache, this is a great place to go, especially for the kids. There a really some great ones to find here. And the kids never mind finding the same ones again so we hunt for them over again every year!

Very nice place to vibe after a long time stuck inside the house due to covid. Many different trails with many different sights to see. 10/10Btw Im editing this review to say my parents took me here when I was very young, and my grandparents also come here very often so thank you wilderness center. You were here for me when my friend died and I needed an outlet in the woods recently. Thanks, I cant pay you guys back enough.

We received excellent guidance and care at the nature center.Our first time there and had a wonderful day of hiking, exploring, and taking in the autumn views.Thank you all so much!

Very nice. Great well kept walking paths. The paths do need marked better as they sometimes cross and you dont know which one to follow.

Very beautiful place to walk, watch birds, and other activities. The planetarium is also really cool with other fun activities for young kids and adults alike.

I have been coming here for 40 years and its still so beautiful! The trails are all clear and easily traveled. Warblers everywhere!

This is a great place to hike for all ages, as its safe. Its also very beautiful with a pond, watch tower to climb, and an awesome kids area!! I see a lot of tours while hiking, and have thought about doing that. Go check it out! Youll enjoy it.

I have been going here for 20 years now and Every time its like a new experience. We always walk the pond loop: feed the fish, climb the tower, sit in the turtle shack and watch the turtles. It’s always so fun. It’s the perfect distance and it’s 95% shades. The inside of the building is educational and breathtaking. The new kids playground they build is extremely adorable and I am glad it isn’t like a traditional playground. I love this place. It’s a must go every time I travel to Ohio!

Hands down, the best place to visit with kids. We love this place. Ive taken many family trips here, and introduced friends to this hidden gem. We always have a great time here. I cant wait to explore some more! Theres no way to experience everything they offer in one trip.

My favorite place in Stark County. Peaceful and quiet. Great place to hike and enjoy nature. Lots of nice backroads in the area too if you like adventure bicycling.

I have been coming here since I could drive (29 years). I always find something new to explore and gain appreciation for. Today I was practicing for the Wilderness Center 5k in April.

Very nice place to spend the day enjoying nature. The bird room is really cool. Hiking trails, picnic area, benches to sit and watch nature, and so much more. The restrooms in the main building are very clean and well maintained.

Beautiful place to hike and to experience and learn about nature. There are trails to appeal to all ages. Children and adults will enjoy the fish and geese on the pond and watching the birds and squirrels, and an occasional woodland mammal in the bird observation room. There are clubs and events from astronomy to photography. The Wilderness Center has a lot to offer, free to the public, and do consider supporting it by becoming a member for a nominal fee.

Very nice nature center! Friendly & helpful employees. Nice clean place. Beautiful views, many nice walking trails! Also have night time star or comet watching shows, as well as information about wildlife & native plants!

You can’t beat this local gem. About 20 minutes SW of Canton and Massillon. Fall is an ideal time to view this getaway

Discovered the Wilderness Center through researching green burials at their Foxfield Preserve. Unfortunately shortly afterwards, I needed them as my wife had passed away. She was an avid birdwatcher and naturalist and after discussing with Sara Brink, the manager of the preserve, agreed that this was the appropriate place to put her to rest. Sara thankfully came in on her day off while I was in Wilmot, making additional arrangements, so we could pick the plot and plan for the burial. Sara was a big help as she also arranged for a local priest for the grave side service. As the preserve is a prairie, it changes very much, with the seasons. And thats what gives me the reason to visit as much as I can.The Wilderness Center itself is beautiful, with many different areas to explore, and a just recently remodeled learning center.

This is a wonderful resource for the area. The foot print is relatively small but they make up for it by being great. Whether its childrens programs, the astronomy or photography club there is something for everyone. Im now an old geezer so I remember is as the Stark County Wilderness Center. I recommend you come out for a program, bring your kids to one, join one of the clubs or just come out and hike.

Lovely place. Only the main buildings are accessible to wheelchairs. The trails are mostly gravel but nowhere near ADA compliant - steep inclines, muddy areas, steps, rough terrain.

Beautiful scenery and challenging paths. Theres always something new to see when you go on the walking trails. The center has snakes and so many other things that are amazing to see.

Great place to take the kids, or just a hike. Inside had a little area for kids to play and explore. They also have a indoor bee hive that the kids can watch the bees work and move around the comb. We walked the pond trail, and got to see the geese and tons of little babies. The trail was good for walking, not great for pushing a stroller, but do-able. We then went to the outdoor kids play area and my 2 boys (6 and almost 2had a great time exploring and getting dirty.

Officiated a green burial at the adjoining Foxfield Preserve. The Center is stunning! Beautiful architecture. Great displays of wildlife, environmental concerns, for all ages. Nice gift shop. Serene trails. A great place to spend the fay

The Wilderness Center is a great place for people to relax, have fun, and enjoy being part of something special. It is a wonderful thing to know that places like this exist that are open to all to experience the wonders of nature and kinder side of humanity.

Excellent place to introduce kids to the wonders of nature. Many birds, deer and squirrels around most of the time. Nice trails to explore. I would recommend this to whomever cares about wildlife or conservation.

Went to see a photographers presentation on Eagles in Alaska. Great observation area for birds and wildlife. Will go back to hike and check out other things when warm.

We come here very often. They have a lot of really cute walking paths. They have great programs for kids. This place has an outside playscape for kids to play in nature, and also an indoor play area. Check out their website, its worth a visit or 10.

Great place with much to see and do. Simple hiking trails for the family! And the Interpretive Building is great to venture through with the kids as well. Ive always enjoyed the bird watching room with all the windows and sound.

Awesome trails for humans and some for dogs as well. Some days you may want to bring bug spray as you are hiking in the woods. There is also an interpretive building with snakes and turtles, bird watching, puzzles for kids.

Great place to go to unwind and forget about life for a while. Hike a trail, check out the beaver pond, visit the geese on the lake, or take in a concert or an educational talk. There is always something to do here!e

Incredible place, great people. Must visit while in Amish Country. Trails, interactive displays inside for the kids AND adults, playscape outside for the kids, and events all throughout the year.

One of the best kept "secrets" in the area. Great place to hike. Lots of programs to interest everyone. The displays inside the Interpretive building are very educational.

awesome place too go, so long as it is not too muddy. i love the pond trail - it is just long enough. this venue is 100% free and supported by local donations. there is a dog park directly across the street from the main venue. and if you like geese and huge fish in a pond you have to go. go to their website so you can find out about the events they hold all year. my fav is during Halloween
