Intimate fringe theatre attached to local pub, encouraging new writing and reviving lost classics.
Lovely pub, great beer and amazing fish finger sandwich.
My first visit - the exterior is unassuming but the interior is lovely, nice and cosy and HUGE! Great staff, friendly and attentive. Extensive food menu and the food was delicious. Will return again!
Great selection of beers, tasty food and amazing beer garden! Walk in and you will be surprised how spacious is this place.
🚇 Kennington🍺 £5.70 Pravha❤️ An elegant Youngs pub in the heart of Kennington..The White Bear is just a two minute walk from Kennington tube station and sits on busy Kennington Park Road..This is one of the oldest pubs is South London and dates back to 1780. The pub was taken over by @youngspubs a few years back and refurbished in 2016..This is elegant pub which is tastefully decorated. At the front is an island bar with comfy seating and intimate booths. At the back is a spacious dining area which leads to a good size beer garden. Upstairs is the @whitebeartheatre which has won numerous awards, check out their instagram for upcoming shows & productions..The beer choice was pretty good, I ordered a Pravha which was great and under six quid. The food menu is full of British classics, fish & chips costs £18.50. The reviews are very positive for dining here, the Sunday roasts are especially popular..There is a nice feel to the place and the atmosphere was pleasant on this Saturday afternoon. I had a little chat with the manager about Youngs beers, he was personable and a top fella..@thewhitebearkennington is a classy traditional pub and very easy on the eye. The price point is premium but so is the offering. Kennington is a great place to go for a laidback pubcrawl, be sure to add the White Bear to your list..ℹ️ Information correct on visiting 30/07/22
Really great staff, very helpful. Food was delicious, lovely range of choices. We also attended the theatre upstairs so got 10% off our bill in the restaurant.
I came by bike, realised Id forgotten my lock. The staff were extremely friendly and let me tuck it away inside, really appreciated it!The food was also great, and all staff so warm and lovely.
Excellent evening. Delicious food with a perfectly cooked Steak and lovely vegetables. Grerat to eat good food and be able to walk up stairs to the theatre for equally good food for the mind! Then afterwards you can still stay on for drinks and coffee. Obvious advisary note: arrive in good time so you dont have to rush your meal in order to finish in time for the play.
Beautiful pub with a variety of different spaces to suit whatever mood and size of group you are in. Excellent food, I would recommend the plant burger. The theatre upstairs often has some good shows on, I would advise you check them out too.
Good food in the pub, and a nice little theatre upstairs.
Lovely place to visit, cosy atmosphere very friendly staff and the food we had was delicious. If in the area I would thoroughly recommend a visit.
Atmosphere is great, friendly wait staff. The lamb shepherds pie is seasonal but amazing
Really great place to visit. Excellent well presented freshly cooked food. Staff very friendly and couldnt do enough for you. Plus theres a theatre upstairs for extra entertainment.
The best Sunday roast in London.Staff were so kind
This has got to be the blueprint for an ideal pub. Beer good, food got and staff so friendly, courteous and helpful. I heartedly recommend is venue. Plus its got a theatre upstairs, what more could one ask for?
Really good traditional pub with a lovely theatre upstairs. Great food, we had a ploughmans lunch which was ample for three of us.
What a great pub.. I was especially impressed by the professionalism of Reece - Give him a pay rise.
Quirky pub with a theatre upstairs. Plenty of seating inside and outside and on a hot day the aircon was a godsend. Decent range of beers too. Will be back!
Lovely large and comfortable venue, great staff, good beers and exciting theatre, with10% off food for theatre ticket holders.
A really nice pub with wonderful staff, surprisingly large space and a lovely garden out the back. There’s also a theatre upstairs! Always a good vibe here.

Came for dinner and drinks for two and it’s absolutely gorgeous place with friendly and helpful staff!Ordered few drinks with two sharing dishes plus their famous burger 🤤🤤🤤Definitely will come back again and try their garden at the back! 👍🏼
Great food, very busy, lovely toilet facilities, great staff, beautiful delicious wines
I love the vibe. Ive had pre- and post-theatre drinks here. And, you can bring drinks to the show. All staff are super friendly. It makes you feel like one of the regulars with the local pub ambience. Further inside is a bright, big space for bigger groups and a cute beer garden at the back. I would like experience the food next time.
Went here for a weekday lunch. I ordered the beef Wellington which was really nice and cooked perfectly. It was £30 a portion so thought it would have been nice for it to include some crispy parmentier potatoes on the side too. The gravy was ok but expected something a bit nicer to complement such a great dish.
Our impromptu Sunday lunch group booking was very kindly accommodated. The food here is sensational, and if we could have ordered one of every dish on the menu, we would have! The choice of wines, beers and spirits is excellent too. Service is exceptionally good. All the staff were friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. We highly recommend The White Bear.
Really nice pub, there is a lovely garden inside. I had a club sandwich very tasty, there are a lot of options on the menù. Friendly and professional staff. Ill come back
A great pub with nice food, though a bit pricey and not a great range on vegetarian food.
Nice decor etc menu looks good, but I didnt have a meal. BUT, £5.55 for a pint in this part of London is ridiculous, no wonder it was empty. Can go a quarter of a mile in either direction and pay 90p less
A great pub with indoor and outdoor seating options. Lovely staff and large range of drinks. The theatre space above is a jewel in the pub-theatre scene of London.
Pretty pub with nice beer garden. Looking forward to coming back.
We had lunch with friends at the White Bear, food was fantastic and the service friendly and welcoming. The Pub have a large selection of drinks and beers. We will return!
Lovely pub. Bar staff were super friendly and helpful, seems a bit dark when you first walk in but back area has 2 large rooms with skylights which are delightful.I would say it seems quite expensive compared to some other Youngs pubs I’ve been to, and I didn’t eat, but there weren’t loads of veggie options on the menu I noticed.
I was told that their roast dinners are in the winning top 30 in London, I dont doubt this at all.The food was glorious and the location is perfect with so much outdoor space to enjoy in the sun with a cider in hand too.Often in London I find Sunday Roast portion sizes are small for the price tag. Although this roast dinner was a little more on the pricey side (£18.00I think. You get an awful lot of quantity AND quality which makes it all worthwhile. You can tell they could with love and intention. Thanks for a great first meal here!
Lovely pub and delicious food. Good selection of drinks. The quiz on Wednesday is very entertaining. The only real drawback is that it is rather expensive, especially the food. I will visit again.
Much bigger inside than expected. Had a vegetarian option roast dinner with a beetroot, freekeh, mushroom and spinach Wellington which I recommend and very much enjoyed. Be aware that dogs are welcomed in the restaurant.
Visited on Xmas day 21 with my so who lives across the road from this delightful Pub / restaurant/ theatre. We secured great seats next to a raging wood fire, although not dining there they were providing Xmas meals and it was buzzing at 13.00. Thoroughly enjoyed our drinks in a splendid old world surrounding.
I visited The White Bear yesterday with my friend for her birthday. What a lovely place, very comfortable, friendly staff and a relaxed atmosphere. Great to visit a pub that is not a chain and has its own individual personality. The food was amazing, especially the sausage sandwich and macaroni cheese! The prices were veryreasonable. I will definitely be backI hope locals support this business through these difficult times.
Great food! A really nice place to have lunch and only moment away from the tube. Thank you
Sunday lunch was just the ticket. Our first indoor meal for a couple of years and we were so glad we chose The White Bear. Great service (and no service charge added to the bill whether you got good service or not), great prices (both food and drink), comfortable, airy surroundings. Loved the other diners too 😃 - plenty of well behaved dogs and children. Recommend the Roast Angus rump with Yorkshire and the full panoply of veggies followed by Sticky Toffee Pudding and ice-cream.
Great spot for a pint and good food. Mix with the locals and friendly staff whilst enjoying gorgeous food and appreciating the cool decor of the old theatre and memorabilia they have on display.
After theatre, enjoyed a lovely dinner and drink.I had the vegan barley risotto - delicious but so filling that I couldn’t quite finish it.Would definitely return to try other dishes!Loved the old living room feeling with the odd bits on display. The staff were really great, friendly.Shame about the weather. Hope to venture in the beautiful garden next time.
The White Bear public house its a Youngs Pub with all the regular sort of beers that youngs have in another venues food is extremely good if a little bit expensive I found the Sunday Roast was almost impossible to finish due to the amount that was put on the plate staff are very friendly small beer garden front of the pub which unfortunately is on Kennington Park Road however at the back of the pub theres a large garden which is very pleasant at the rear of the pub just before the garden theres a area that has glass on the Ceiling allowing Lashings of natural light into the venue overall very good experience cant wait for it to open again once lockdown has finished
Lovely outdoor area and plenty of space inside. The ability to use the Youngs on Tap app has been extremely useful and service was very speedy, even with a lot of customers around. The staff are happy, friendly and extremely helpful. I will definitely be coming back!
I loved this pub! Really nice atmosphere, good food and decent prices! I highly recommend it!
The White Bar is a two minute walk from Kennington tube station and just around the corner City & Guilds of London Art School. Its a simply gorgeous English pub, with a great selection of beers and a table service restaurant towards the back. There is even a Theatre upstairs with a sixty seat capacity, shows are almost every night. A White Bear pub had stood on the site since 1780, although I suspect this ones somewhat newer. I didnt eat, but would recommend The White Bear simply for its beauty. Oddly, the 5ft cast iron beer in the bar is black (just give me a shout Youngs, I would love to give that beer a warming coat of smooth hammerite). Fanstatic Pub.
This place is huge! Great pint of youngs best and a superb chicken club sandwich. Friendly staff also.
Okay so the pub is lovely and surprisingly big inside with a nice atmosphere and loads of space to sit. The bar staff were agency so not very knowledgeable but they were really lovely and friendly and I wouldnt fault them if I could and I wouldnt so shut up. However...I ordered my food and was pretty disappointed. A chicken escalope is £10. Literally, a chicken escalope and a blob of purple coleslaw is all you get. Ten quid? And it was burned and not freshly made as far as I could tell. I asked for my money back and they happily refunded me. I feel like London just charges what it wants knowing most people wont complain. It signifies a lack of respect for customers and leaves a bad taste in the mouth...like burned escalope. Nonetheless its a great pub with a fab theatre upstairs. Do visit. Maybe just have the burger.
What brought me in here was how close it was to my friend’s apartment in Kensington. I great to have a cozy and comfortable place like this where you can have good drinks, food and good conversation with friends. Will definitely come back again!
Freshly refurbished, and refurbished very well indeed. The food was outstanding and the garden delightful. Service was slow during busy hours (we came for a Sunday roastbut always warm and friendly.
