The Whistling Kettle - Tea room in Kolkata, India
The Whistling Kettle in Kolkata
Description
I actually went 2-3 times, This place is very romantic with a beautiful ambience...The ambience is too good with an extra addition to the live music which adds up to the ambience ...The reception area is very nicely done up with lovely tea sets and tea pots selling at exorbitant prices... The staffs are polite and courteous... The tea at Whistling Kettle was good, but foods are very highly priced...as a whole mixed feeling...
MoreSo we went for an outing few months ago and we choose this restaurant to have something to fill our tummy. From the outside the appearance was appealing so we decided to go inside to look for the variety of choice this restaurant was offering. With our surprise we found that this restaurant has a lot of items in the menu, then we ordered pork sausage bacon ham salami and egg. This is actually a breakfast, now you can say why so heavy breakfast? Thats because this breakfast is very popular in Darjeeling where people loves to take heavy breakfast in the cold morning to cope up with the cold. Sausages were soft filled with meat, beacon was shallow fried with pepper, salt etc. but it was soft too perfectly cooked that can be easily torn apart with fork and spoon. Egg was half boiled so it becomes easier to dip the meat with the juicy yolk. It was very tasty, we would love to try that once again. Not so spice dominant rather perfectly balanced. Overall ambience of the restaurant was quite and nice and we liked it. Interior decoration was just amazing, you would feel like sitting at Darjeeling. We wish to visit there once again and would like to try more items ❤️❤️
MoreLoved d place. Nice ambience. Wonderful place to spend time with friends. Must try Chicken Lasagne n Arabiata spaghetti n Darjeeling tea. Also has stage for live performance.
More"The Whistling Kettle was in my mind from a long time back. Finally, we visited this place a few days back along with my friends. The cafe is not very big. The decor is pretty simple and the ambience has that cozy vibes. It has a podium for live music. But we were not fortunate enough to listen live cause we visited the cafe at around 3pm.It is in a walking distance of 2-3 minutes from Golpark crossing by the side of Mouchak. Its a bit difficult to locate via Google maps, but the cafes manager will definitely help you out after calling them. So, we ordered the following:1. Chicken Sausage Salami and Egg : The Chicken sausage(2 pieces, salami(2piecesand an egg poach were served with mashed potato, some veggies and a roasted tomato. The taste was not up to the mark. For me, it was overpriced in compare to the quantity served and also some other cafes.2. Pork Ham Salami and Egg : Same remark for this item also. Its really overpriced.3. Chicken Salami and Cheese Grilled Sandwich : Finally, these sandwiches were our saviour for the day. The sandwiches were perfectly grilled with good amount of chicken and cheese. It was damn good in taste.Courteous staffs but very slow service.I hope this will get fixed in time. But still, I want the management to look after this asap. Till then, you have to be choosy wit your order. If you choose right, you will be okay.
MoreGood ambience. A nice cafe with a musical stage open to all...with a couple of guitars and mic and high chairs for an impromptu music session for all to enjoy.
MoreGood ambience. Food is ok. Good place for kids. Environment is great to enjoy. Good for youngsters. Great hospitality.
MoreReally loved this place. We went for the breakfast and it was totally upto our expectations. Best thing I liked there was mushroom sandwiches. Lemon honey tea was also good. Ambience is really cool and staff behaviour is also friendly. Totally worth it giving it a visit.
MoreA small Joint for breakfast. Nice and clean .. Food was good so was staff. Only downside was we could not get herbal tea there
MoreThe Whistling Kettle is a famous breakfast joint in South Kolkata near Golpark. It opens at 09 00 hours in the morning and closes at 22 00 hours. The foods are satisfactory and tea is awesome. They offer different varieties of tea including herbal tea.
MoreOverall a very cosy place to sit and spend some time... Ambinece is good and a small space is dedicated for live performance. Food and drinks are good. They could have added more options on food is the only thing they can improve. Rest is fine
MoreCharming and quaint, great place for adda. Reminded of their tea room in Darjeeling. Good variety of exotic tea and Keventers breakfast available.
MoreTook a quick stop here for a cup of tea - recommend by my brother. This place is a cozy one - not very prominent from the street outside. The ambience looked nice although it was empty at this time of the day. Music was great - in fact most of my fav music were playing in the background. There is a space for open mic as well.I will be back here for more later on and update this review.

MoreNice ambience. Decent background music. Good food. Tad bit costly but nice over all.
MoreOne of my most favorite tea cafe in the country! You walk in to a beautifully decorated, small Cafe and get floored by everything there. Needless to say, tea is of top quality. We ordered white tea, double flush and hot lemon tea. We also ordered the roasted garlic cheese sandwich and margherita pizza. Both of these were so delicious that the taste still lingers in my palate. The price is quite reasonable too.
Morevery cosy place that I keep revisiting because it does not get too crowded thankfully in the afternoons!!! Totally in love with their black tea, exotic vegetables, chicken omlet and pancake....my favorite combination...would like a few more options starters though!
MoreMy 6th visit here, just for the best Lasagne in Town!!
Located near Golpark, its a great place for tea lovers. The food here is very good and specially the White Sauce pasta and the Alphanso Mango Milkshake is recommended (The Chocolate Milkshake tastes like Horlicks or Bournvita though). Soft music plays in the background and theres a place for Live music (An acoustic guitar is also provided along with two high chairs !!). The decor is also somewhat good.
MoreThe pizza was really yummmm but me and my friend was highly disappointed with the white tea and the mango dhake. Wasted our money on both of them. Moreover we gave order for premium tea they gave us exotica which was way pricey and really it was plain green tea not even a good one. Please correctly take orders hencefoth. The ambience was nice and the decor too.
MoreQuite chic. Decor has a feel good feeling. Good place to hang out with your friends or even with that Special friend. Do remember that pork is available here. Try the teas n the shakes. Would surely love to visit again.
MoreThis place is situated opposite Cafe Coffee Day in Golpark. It opens to a small room selling tea and decorative kettles. Another door leads to the dining area, which is dimly lit giving it a cosy vibe.We ordered Lasagna al Ferno with Chicken(₹345), which arrived in about 10 minutes, the smell being almost tempting enough to not click photos and delve right in. It was served with a piece of garlic bread on the corner. The cheese had a sheet of pasta underneath, and further down was the minced chicken, satisfying both cravings of cheese and chicken. The taste was slightly bland, but I guess thats what authenticity tastes like to the Bengali tongue. Added a lot of pepper and salt, and it was perfect. The dining area was well decorated, except the hideous image of some weeds at the back.A+ staff, they actually wait at their end and look over the customers to see if anyone needs attention. Will be returning, hopefully very soon.
MoreIt was amazing!! Both the coffee and blueberry cheesecake were as good as I was expecting it to be! Would definitely visit again to try their snacks and dishes! Ambiance, sitting area and decorations all were beautiful~ ❤️
MoreThe English breakfast is a must try. Service of staff is quick and they are very courteous. You can also purchase adorably cute Chinese kettles as souvenirs!
MoreIts a gem!! Cozy, comfy, amazing food, excellent staff.. And the tea!! My, my.. They serve the best quality Nathmulls tea. Went there with family, had a wonderful time. Just too good a place. Must try!!
MoreOne of the best coffee shop of Kolkata where you can get Original Nathmulls exotic Darjeeling Green Tea with live music .
MoreNice lighting and ambiance good place to have beacon and sausages ..
Wished to visit this place as this place always gives us the flavour of Darjeeling, both by serving and selling the famous tea of Nathmulls as well as by serving almost the same English breakfast platter that one can get in Keventers Darjeeling; Here whole day the breakfast platter is available but the price is too high for the quantity they serve in the plates.. Taste of food is good, quality is maintained; Shakes and smoothies i found here better than the solid foods
MoreAn amazing place with wonderful jazz music and live singing areana. Tea is good. Some food are not worth the price. Its famous for tea. If you are a tea lover do visit the place.
MoreA slice of Nathmuls from darjeeling..thats what you will feel when u step inside. Nice n cozy ambience with good music. We went there for a breakfast and were surprised to find the chicken/pork platter in the menu.ordered the chk one, served with roasted mushrooms and baked beans..simply awesome and finished off with a nathmulls speciality tea. Btw,we also ordered a pancake and was soft n yummy..overall a very cosy place to hang out wid friends and family. You can also buy packed tea leaves
MoreGreat food and nice ambience. They have got sitting arrangements for about 50 people. Easy on the pocket and a must try place if one loves Lasagne.
MoreA great place to relax and brunch. Although it takes a bit of time for them to prepare the food... The wait is worth it! The vietnamese coffee here is a must try
More*whistles* you get the feel of the hills even in the rush of the city... Friendly staff and perfect ambience. The best is they always serve with a smile...
MoreI looooooove looooooove looooooove this quaint little Darjeelingish place if you know what I mean! You will forget you are at Golpark once you walk in and notice the beautiful wooden arches and the lights.Enjoy your plate of Keventers breakfast,a warm aromatic cup of Darjeeling tea and soft fluffy pancakes with a generous spread of Nutella - bliss! And oh yes you can also buy their rather exquisite selection of tea and trinkets.
MoreThe ambience is good enough. The prices are average. The food however is worth it.
MoreA nice cosy place....well decorated. Beautified with different types n colour of kettels. Nice n clean kitchen. Staffs are well behaved and obident. Ordered a round of teas n shakes. The tastes were average. After that ordered some snacks... Overall average in taste.....but nice place for a cool hangout. Pricing of listed food items are also average n affordable.....
MoreSuch a nice place to spend that weekend evening! Relaxed vibe, soothing music and good food are a rare combination but you will find all three here. Located at just a 30 sec walk from mouchak golpark and beside momo i am , diagonally opposite to cafe coffee day, its easily accessible!
MoreHeard and read do much about this place that my expectations were sky high....so when I actually visited this place I wasnt all that impressed. In fact I was pretty disappointed. I guess I can safely say that the tea and food are good. But the ambience was not to my liking. The decor is wonderful but the place is cramped. They have tried to put in as many tables as they can in this small space. Moreover it was extremely noisy. The service too was very slow.
MoreService was very average.. Quality is 3.5+.. Rates are quite good and mostly affordable.. For a quick meetup with people, the place is cosy and comfortable.
MoreImpressive place when it comes to ambience and feel, not so much with the food and service. However, if you know what to order, you’d come out fairly satisfied with this place.I enjoyed the breakfast platter more, but learnt that the pizza here is better given a miss.
MoreVery good cozy place to hangout with your loved one. Good food. Recommend to taste FISH SICILLANA! You can choice Mediterranean food staffs and pork items...
MoreSmall yet cosy place to make your holiday evenings memorable. Pure replica of darjeeling in Kolkata.
MoreAnother feather in the cap of Kolkatas tea-coffee culture. Nice place, beautiful ambience, serving delicious food. Speciality is Nathmulls tea from Darjeeling. Also has a shop selling Nathmulls tea.
MoreOrdered few, tea is not up to the mark. Sausage and others are not so good, but the fish! Lemon fish was very good. This place have some parking problem but positionally it is easy acceptable by metro, local train, auto or bus
MoreA refreshing, innovative change from usual chain Cafes in Kolkata. Beautiful decor and concept. Good location. Tea lovers paradise along with tasty treats or full meal with a variety of teas. Not easy on pocket, but the teas are worth it. A must visit for Adda and cha loving bangali.
MoreBrilliant place with great food, occasional live music performances, and a great interior decor. The different kettles will definitely attract your attention as well as the photos adorning the walls inside. A cool and hip new place in Kolkata to hang out with buddies and close ones.
MoreFlavours of Darjeeling in kolkataWell decorated and its bliss to witness kaventers platters nd natmulls tea.Must go for tea lovers as well
MoreWell decorated, extensive food menu, excellent friendly & homely service. Would love to visit next time also.
MoreThe place is lovely actually it is famous for Darjeeling tea, plus if you have gone to Darjeeling then you must be knowing nathmull the famous tea seller of Darjeeling and keventers where you get the mouth watering English breakfast, this place the whistling kettle is the combination of both so with tea you can also have snacks n cakes deliciousDrop in as Darjeeling is in this place
MoreOk. Im in LOVE with this place, period.Im just surprised it took us so long to tick this place off the bucket-list. It almost felt like walking into TARDIS today, as the quaint glass door entrance opened up to a corridor of silent kettles and then a spacious eating zone with a guitar to the left! With enough space between the tables for the (apparentlyunder staffed, yet highly efficient team to run around with your orders, which reach the table pretty quick even with a full house. The sober decor and the ambiance music with the perfect volume invites you for AN EXPERIENCE WORTH ABSORBING. We had tried:1. Chicken Jumbo Sandwich (House Special- 4⭐️[ITS HUGE! We would have preferred a little more varied taste out of it though; probably some potato wafers to go with it. But, a belly-filler, hands down]2. Bacon and Sunny Side Up - 5⭐️[Ok, this set the standards. The egg was two, not one, and its not mentioned in the menu, so that was a pleasant surprise. And then the bacon...just hit the spot. Not too burnt, neither too raw, perfectly cooked, and without being scalding salty. A delight to recall the first bite even while Im traveling back home now.]3. Vietnamese Coffee - 3.5⭐️[So, it was milk coffee with sugar, on the rocks. My bad, should have asked for the specifications before ordering it. Well made, but Im a no milk no sugar dark to the core espresso drinker.]If youre a tea drinker, Ive been told this is the place. If youre a bacon lover, Im telling you, this is the place. And all this topped with a smiling team; their smiling faces almost makes you feel that they are happy to see you there. They are professional, yet still not being a a bunch of order-noting robots.A rock solid 5⭐️ for The Whistling Kettle (and a few whistles for the kettles they have on display). A DEFINITE REPEAT VISIT place.
MoreSmall cafe near golpark serving nuthmulls tea and meat platters . The pork platter looked delicious , but the sausages smelled horrible and ham was high on salt
