The Waterfront Restaurant and Tavern in La Crosse

Friends and I had lunch there on a beautiful early fall afternoon. The food and ambience were first rate! The staff are friendly and efficient.

We had an excellent dinner here, everyone had something different off the menu and everything was delicious. We enjoyed their oysters and desserts as well and were not disappointed. Considering the quality of the dishes and the atmosphere the prices were very reasonable. Id certainly recommend a visit to anyone.

We visited for our anniversary. Beautiful place and the service and food was excellent. Steaks were perfectly cooked. The desserts were top knotch.

The salmon was delicious. My husbands halibut was also. Both perfectly prepared with vegetables. The key lime pie was tangy and light. The waitstaff was polite and attentive but not too clingy. All in all a great experience.

Beautiful patio, amazing food and drinks and kind service. I’d recommend and I hope to return one day!

The atmosphere, service, and food are all amazing. To top it off, the owner is a veteran and offers a military discount to everyone who is serving. I would definitely come again.

Went a little bit later on a Friday night.We enjoyed sitting on the patio outside. It was a little buggy, but it was outside and and later in the evening. But it was a nice and calming view.The service was spot on.The Oysters Rockefeller were superb! I havent had them that delicious in sometime. Kudos on you!But the main courses were, disappointingly, lack luster.The first was the Pork Shoulder with eggplant and pickled cucumber. The cucumber was succulent, crisp, tangy and wonderful. The eggplant was also perfectly done and just delightful.But the Pork Shoulder was so tough, fatty and just chewy. I dont really recall the flavor as I was too busy chewing and gnawing on gristle.The Tenderloin Filet on the other hand was a great cut of meat and it was well prepared. Cutting was like cutting butter. The flavor... heavenly. I wont keep going as weve all had a wonderful steak and this is in the top ten for me.The potatoes were lackluster. Fairly flavorless. Disappointing.The broccoli florets werent really cooked. Infact they werent cooked really at all. After two bites of eating raw broccoli, I gave up.I would honestly give this place two stars, but the service pushed the stars to three. It was a place to try out. Would I go again? No. Not for the price youre paying for subpar food.I hope this helps. Cheers.

I have had the privilege of visiting thousands of restaurants at this point in my life. The location of this restaurant is nice. However, I encountered the single most rude and offensive server I have experienced at this establishment. She is not aware or sensitive to the customer and has the attitude the is doing you a favor taking your order and money. Her name was Aubrey, and was very offensive. I did politely give some private feedback about my experience to the the GM, her name is Augusta, and she was very apathetic and really did not care. I promptly cancelled my reservation for a party of 6 later that evening and made other plans. I will not go back and spend hundreds of dollars with type of attitude. Better choices out there.

Stopped here to eat, staff was super friendly. We ate outside with a view of the river. Food was amazing. Cheese curds were fantastic. The salmon so delicious. Dinner came with a salad and bread roll. Highly recommend for a night out.

Stopped for a couple of drinks. Wonderful service and drinks were excellent. The food around us looked wonderful. We will be returning for a full meal.

The absolute worst place I have ever eaten at was embarrassed to take my family there. 7 of us not one order was correct. Being from lacrosse I know that they speak English and can understand us. But really overcooked raw frozen.disgusting.hit burger King instead. Felt completely robbed.And talk about over priced small portions. Save yourself its too late for us.

Wonderful place to eat, but remember the sun sets on the patio. Sit on the patio before or after the sun touches it fire best results lol.The server we had was exceptional and worked with every request we had.Great place overall.

Matthew was on his last day of training, and rocked it. One of the best bar keeps ever. Wish I had a couple of employees like him. We will be back for sure

Excellent food, service and space. We liked it so much we visited twice while on a long weekend! Their homemade ice cream is awesome! And you cant beat the sunset views!

An eloquent place to dine for a fine meal. Our waitress was attentive, explained the specials and was friendly. My husband had a delicious steak, cooked just the way he likes it. I had a half of crab. It was great. Reminded me of having crab at a seaside resturant. Would recommend this to anyone who wants a great dining experience.

Slow service, extremely tight tables and over rated in the price to food value. Was impressed with how well server knew the menu.

Absolutely wonderful patio looking out over the River. The food is excellent the staff pleasant. Dont be in a hurry as this is fine dining at its best. Did all 3 courses over a wonderful 2 hours

I was really looking forward to this place. It had a great reputation and we had our reservations for months. The appetizers and soup were good. But dinner was disappointing. The food was a big hit or a big miss. The pork osso bucco was ALL fat, very little meat, and super salty. Our bill for five with two people eating from the tavern menu and three appetizers from $5 happy hour menu was $279 before tip. We also had two people drinking soda. I’ve simply had better for the price. We went to Love Child the night before and had a better experience with better food. It has the ambiance, just not the location.

I never write reviews, but I just have to tell everyone about the wonderful experience we had at The Waterfront yesterday. I had a reservation for 15 for graduation weekend, and it was superb. We had a beautiful private room with a view of the water, the food and the service was out of this world, and the big square table and quiet room meant that our large group could all visit and talk easily. We were not rushed, and had a long leisurely enjoyable dinner. We enjoyed all our food. Many of us got the prime rib special, and shared the calamari and escargot appetizers which were great. Try the virgin mojito! Our server Brittany was amazing. She remembered many little details, made everyone me feel welcome, and did a wonderful job of describing the food and drink so we all knew what was good and what to expect. I would not hesitate to go back for any dinner, but for a special occasion you cannot do better than The Waterfront. Thanks to all the staff!!

Delicious, wonderful service and if course a stunning view

Love this restaurant! The bar is so cozy and inviting. If you have dinner,its worthy of any great restaurant you might find in a big city.I did not give it a five because the wine by the glass selection was nit great. Had the chardonay..not good. Even if they would have a reasonable standard...like Kendal Jackson.

Beautiful location overlooking the Mississippi River. We went on a Sunday evening so it was not very busy. We were able to request a table by the window. Service was excellent! I loved that used plates and silverware were swiftly removed and replenished between courses.We ordered the beef tartare starter, which I found to be too heavily seasoned with pepper and salt. Husband agreed but enjoyed it. The accompanying field carrots and wasabi sauce didn’t balance well with the tartare but were yummy eaten on their own. Mains were Duck L’orange and Scallop Risotto. Duck was well prepared and very enjoyable. Accompaniments with the duck were baby turnips and swiss chard. Probably okay if you enjoy those but we would have preferred an alternate starch and veg. Diver scallops were excellent, unfortunately the risotto was undercooked and had an overpowering mushroom flavor. Server graciously substituted it for a plate of charred vegetables, which were lovely.Classic boulevard (rye manhattanwas lovely.Definitely worth the dining experience and although some our selections were not cooked to our preferences, we were happy to have tried it. Great upscale establishment. Will try again.

Excuse me right now. Opinions are not disputed. My opinion is that overpriced show-off for visiting tourists. Beautiful interior and beautiful view from the window. This is probably the most amazing thing. The first thing I ordered was a Mojito drink with extra lime. Sweet water with ice and a couple of mint leaves)))When I asked the waiter "what is this?". The waiter replied that the bartender made a mistake and did not add rum, he forgot about the lime))I returned the Mojito, ordered wine. Further it was no longer interesting. Plain green salad with sweet nuts in sugar. The duck was delicious. I do not recommend. Sorry.

Went for my bday, and best decision living in la crosse for 2 weeks. Got the Ribeye with smashed potatoes, little salty but still good. With asparagus and a salad for $45 excellent deal. Dessert was amazing, got it for free for my bday. Lots of cocktails and excellent service!

The waiter Phillip was not very pleasant when we were asking questions about the menu. Never checked on us on if we needed drinks or anything. The pork osso bucco was all fat with very little meat. Very salty and didnt look very appealing. The beef tenderloin was very dry . Even cook well should have had a little juice in it.

Friday fish was amazing! The cheese curds are a must. The menu was small, but it appears they change it throughout the year, as well as offering specials. The bartender is a lovely lady who went the extra mile to make a couple of mojoitos for us, although they werent currently on the menu.

I really really wanted to like this place and according to the raving reviews, I had high hopes. This place was a huge disappointment! I never have left a review for any restaurants as frequently as I dine outside due to business travel. My lobster bisque had zero trace of lobster and it was too salty, my risotto with the scallops was also way too salty to eat and this is coming from a person who loves to eat extra salty food. The only thing I liked was the beet salad and the hazelnut banana cheesecake. For $60, I ate a small side of beet salad, 4 scallops and a tiny cheesecake. Too pricy and not worth the money! I really try to support local businesses but this was such a miss for an upscale restaurant. I gave it two stars for the kind girl who took my order and recommended these items.

Went there for my birthday. I loved it! The staff was so nice, and my server was amazing! It was the best place I could have gone for my birthday, they made me feel at home. The only issue I had was that there was some crab shell in my crab meat, but that’s nothing. I definitely recommend this place! The cheese platter was the best.

Very good food in a white tablecloth dinning experience. Great service, food was well made with balanced flavors. Cooked just right. Good options. Worth a visit.

Beautiful patio seating and bar overlooking the Mississippi River. We watched barges floating along the river along with recreational boats. And we had a lovely sunset. It was a wonderful way to have our dinner which was delicious, scallops and Faro with spring peas and blistered tomatoes, and steak with Gorgonzola and broccoli. Be sure to get the special salads with your entrée because they were delicious

It was such a beautiful place. We docked at riverside and walked up to the waterfront. They accommodated us no problem. We ate in the lounge and it was so pretty. The fries were too die for! The curds were good. I ordered the chicken sandwich and it was scrumptious. Too many things sounded good so a trip back is a must!! The staff were polite.

Stopped by after a late afternoon appointment in town.We dined in the bar area.As always amazing service ..Patrick as waiter.. tasty drinks and great food!

This was a fun evening. The view of the river was beautiful. The food was prepaired to perfection and the service was great. The wine list was not spectacular but a few gems could be found among the mundane. Their whiskey selection was very nice. Prices were not cheap, but were reasonable. Will be returning in the near future.

Delicious food and great service! Don’t leave without trying the cheesecake!We went for dinner, and the food was delicious! We were debating on getting desert, but we ended up getting the cheesecake. The cheesecake was so good that we stopped by just to order it again before we left the city. It’s a little pricey to eat here, but the friendly service and great food made it worth every penny!

We dont go here as much as Id like but when we do the food is spectacular!. Its our special place for our anniversary and we get to spend it with our great friends each year. This year was no exception. The staff were very courteous and professional. They all wore masks, properly, all the time. Our food was served to perfection and was very delicious. They even added a special touch to our dessert.

The food was absolutely amazing. Every course was fantastic, without feeling rushed, we were able to dine at our own pace (close to 3 hours). From the appetizer, to the salads and entrees to the dessert, our server took the time to explain each dish, and was happy to answer any and all questions we had. Speaking of service, our server was Ryan C, and he was every bit the professional you would expect at such and establishment, but also had a great sense of humor, and we all enjoyed conversing and joking with him. I would definitely recommend dining here should you ever find yourself in La Crosse, Wi.

Absolutely unbelievable cut of meat. Sea food so fresh you taste the sea. Perfectly cooked. Kelsey was so polite and well spoken with great food description. Beautiful views. Market priced. Just wonderful. Book your table now.

Friends recommended that I stop by here while in town, and I’m so glad I did. Everything was fantastic, but the cheese curds were the stuff of dreams.

Great food and friendly service! Pleasantly surprised at how good this place is. The food was too notch including the complimentary Armenian flat bread with garlic butter. My filet was a little over-cooked but it was still delicious. It probably would have been better if it had been cooked to the right temperature. The salad was quite nice and the dessert was very good.

Great view of the water and comfortable setting. Food and service is excellent there. This time I had the fillet with diver scallops. Only thing wrong was my mistake... Should have gotten more as they are so tasty. Dont make the same mistake... Worth every penny. Our waiter, Sam, did an excellent job! If you like cheese, try the cheese board... Very delicious.

We have visited this place twice now & both times have been exquisite in beverages, food & service. On both occasions we have ordered several seafood items & the classic steak & every time they are both divine. Always cooked to our liking (medium rare). The giant scallops & Alaskan King Crab are among our favorites. The wife ordered a Blueberry Gimlet yet probably the only disappointment cause it sure didnt taste blueberry like. The High Rye Elder Old Fashioned was delicious; so much that I ordered another & the wife did too. Thats now our go to!Oh, and tell Lauren she is awesome! Top notch service, knew the menu well and simply great overall.

Holy cow. The food was delicious and our drinks were perfect. The view from the outdoor area was incredible. Very expensive, but 100% worth it.

YUM!!! My friend and I started with signature cocktails - hers a strawberry margarita and mine a Moscow mule. Just delicious We both chose salmon, but she started with the wedge salad and I started with steak tortilla soup - great flavor! Our server was extremely pleasant and not too chatty. Was craving some good steaks and this place was more then satisfying. Had few drinks at the bar before our table was ready, barentders were awesome, friendly and quick! They had a nice live band going too ! We got seated shortly after, ordered the filet with some asparagus and their house made mashed potatoes and it was delicious! Ordered the steak medium rare and it was just cooked perfectly. Had their famous 3 cheeses appetizer plater as well and it was delicious as well ! Highly recommend this place! Also you get to enjoy dinner with a beautiful view of the river!

Amazing food, best waiter Ive ever had, and they made us a special dessert plate for our anniversary. The shrimp and scallop pasta was to die for and the steak was incredible as well. One of my favorite places.

Some friends and I made reservations for a birthday. The service we received was phenomenal and the food was amazing. I dont remember our waitresses name but she was very nice, fun and full of spunk!!! All together it was a wonderful experience!!!
