Attractive friendly with warm atmosphere and very good food
Great. Fire was going and had two beautiful pizzas.
Awesome host and staff, definitely a must for chicken bites
Amazing food and friendly service. Epic mine and cheese pie was epic, and the crumbed chicken burger is world class.
Amazing place, awesome staff and fantastic food!
Amazing crew suulpporting the community
Absolutely lit pizza, best in Canterbury!!! Cheers from Simon Sez . EM
The fact that the place was empty at lunchtime should have been a warning. I ate a splendid shredded corn beef lunch here two years or so ago and after checking the website was pleased to see that it was still on the menu. On arrival I found that the website had not been updated in several years and a different and not very enticing menu was now offered. My friend went for the chicken burger. I ordered the tempura fish. Having lived in Japan for ten years (and being a dab hand in the kitchen myself), I new what tempura fish should look and taste like. What I got was a single slab of cheap fish in a thick, oily and undercooked batter mixture. It was awful. Even the local seagulls may have refused it. And it wasnt cheap. DO NOT EAT AT THIS PLACE!!! Donate your lunch money to charity instead - youll certainly get more satisfaction. Worse meal I have had in years. Avoid eating here at all costs!
After a walk just a great place to sit back and relax ☺️☺️
Amazing customer service... With great food....
Awesome place great service awesome food.
Nice relaxing atmosphere, great service, always tip i✌️
Best landlord in Christchurch. Super staff in an outstanding friendly environment
Great food, staff are awrsome
The food was lovely, and pretty cool ambience. The staff were friendly, even though they were super busy! 🙂 Tried the. Fried chicken on waffles, and it was delicious!!
A pleasant indoor-outdoor flow and typical of a bar - cafe establishment. I am a visitor, not a local... maybe this is why I didnt feel welcomed and the warmth of such a premises. Clearly regulated were treated somewhat more special than my partner and me...
Nice pub with great atmosphere foods not bad too
Dont miss out on this one! Awesome food in generous quantities, beautiful laid-back venue & convivial host. Just had a Ferrymead Lions Club social there. Best ever. Great price too.
A fabulous greeting when we walked in. Very good service and food to match. While sitting in the sun. Definitely go back.
What a great spot amazing food pool table and super friendly staff!!!!
Great Sunday night meal. Burgers to die for....and quality beer tops it all off!
One of my favorite places to eat. Amazing food at a good price, friendly team with a chilled friendly atmosphere a must visit destination 100% recommend.
Electric mayhem scooter group had a lovely lunch and cider thanks for the hospitality guys 😁
We love The Village Inn. Aaron and Cate are awesome hosts. Food is excellent and delicious - great beer/wine selection too. Try the mulled wine if you can its amazing :)
Great food, especially the ribs, good drinks, good pub feel, and great outdoor area. Would recommend for a nice little village pub!
Good car parking available. Nice friendly vibe when arriving. Good selection of beers wines and food. Clean and inside outside flow with smoking area available outside. Able to bring the dog to the out side area to sit. Food took a while, in gastro pub fashion. Large portions and well prepared. Toilets clean and easy to find.
Amazing Mac n Cheese. Excellent crafty beers on tap, and when the keg ran out they called the brewer up and he was there within the hour with a brand new one.
Ever since I was a young lad. Ive yearned for a sense of belonging. This was all dispelled when I walked into The Village Inn.Moving here from the mighty Waikato in Feb 2019, I was worried. Will I make friends, will I be accepted. You know.... normal human insecurities. But truth be told, I found a family. I found love, acceptance, belonging.Ive met lifelong friends, and truth be told, Ive found a place that pours my beloved beer like no one else does in Christchurch...... Guiness. From the amazing food from chef Aaron and the banter that comes with it. To the sweet singing voice of Cate and her welcoming demeanor. To the cheek and beauty that comes from Charlotte. Needless to say, Ive found a home. Thank you.
I you want to meet some local - visit it. Decent bar with outside sitting area, not wide but adequate range of beers and wines. But never order Guinness - you might be quiet surprised how different it tastes from original one, you can get in Europe. Will visit one day again and will give them one more chance :)
Service was fantastic, had a great night here. Loved the outdoor area
Friendly wee gastro pub , good food ,nice cold beer, comfortable seating , great outdoor area ,
Being a chef myself Im very picky when it comes to dinning out...I had the Crispy chicken & eggs Benedict & my partner the cajun wedges...Im so glad to say it was beyond our expectations as the food presentation was beautiful, the taste was to die for and the portion size was that big we had to take the rest home & the atmosphere was brilliant! The staff wer very friendly and we will definitely be back! Would "HIGHLY RECOMMEND" this place.Thank-you for the great hospitality :).
Nice atmosphere, and one of the best pizzas Ive had for a long time. Its not in my neighbourhood, but Ill be back.
We attended an informal private party at the Village Inn .The catering was of a high standard and the afternoon enjoyable. A good venue for informal functions.
Great meal and service with a smile 😊
Great food and atmosphere. Cate and Aaron know how to make you feel welcome. Excellent range of drinks too.
Just such good people. We were made to feel welcome and part of the village. We’d be back in a heartbeat!
I went to The Village Inn with my family tonight for dinner. The decision was last minute, choosing to instead go there than to go to Indian Sumner, for a change. Entering the bar you are greeted with not much - a bland array of brown tables and cheap chairs, with a confused atmosphere - is it casual? Homely? It can’t seem to decide. We picked up our menus from the counter - three sheets of paper on a cheap clipboard. This seemed cute at first, but the more I looked at it, the less it felt like a stylistic choice and the more it felt like a way to hide that they can’t afford nicer menus. With an absolutely tiny range to choose from, I can’t say I blame them. I ordered the pulled pork burger with fries and apple slaw for a reasonable $17.50. When it arrived, I was greeted with a pleasantly crispy bunch of fries and a promising looking burger. The fries were very well cooked, albeit a little under seasoned, but the burger completely failed to deliver. Biting into it, I tasted a warm, greasy rush of barbecue sauce - and not much else. The slaw was completely tasteless. This was not the worst of it, however, as I found that I could not even get my teeth through the pork, try as I may. It was so incredibly tough that as I took more bites, I ended up pulling whole chunks of the stuff out - it was so tough and dry that it was incapable of being bitten through. It was like someone had dried a part of the skin with no fat in an attempt to make fat-free crackling. Chewing it was like a mouthful of cartilage. It was absolutely horrible, dry and tough. There was one chunk of pork that I simply had to spit out, as, despite my best efforts, I could not chew through. I noticed also throughout my meal that there were no friendly servers - we entered the restaurant, took our menus, found a table, and sat down. After we had gone to the counter to select what we want to eat, the food was prepared and it was given to us. Not a single word. Not a hello as we came in or a goodbye as we left. Absolutely appalling. I will not come back here.
Awesome wee bar in Sumner! We went for the great live music (The Restless - absolutely amazing duoand got a few rounds. They were doing a great pizza deal too - two for $25.
Always good food, plenty of drink choices and the staff are all awesome.
Thank you Cate for the wonderful occasion last Sunday afternoon. The food and service was exemplary. Will definitely return. 😎
Really cool atmosphere with a nice outside space. Friendly staff and good food. Now they finally have some decent beer on tap it get 5 stars from me.
Popped in for a quick beer. Really nice spot. Some super interesting beers on tap. Highly recommended
Delicious food with original twists on the classics, try the crispy chicken as a side or in one of the mains. Definitely coming back to try more!
Good selection of craft beer, nice food, fun and friendly staff. They have raffles and giveaways on various nights of the week.
Fantastic little pub / bistro.Wonderful food. On a Sunday live music roast meals and macaroni. Delicious
Food was really good. Had a mix up with orders but staff were very helpful in sorting it out
Fantastic food, corned beef and calamari are the best in CHC! Love it!
We were hoping to get the huge breakfast which our adult kids were raving about only to be told it was not available during the week. We then ordered individual breakfasts. There appeared to be only one chef in the kitchen so the wait for our meals was very long. Because we were with a 2 year old toddler the long wait was frustrating as she was restless and so her parents took it in turns to take her for a walk. When the food eventually came it was really great quality. The eggs and the fried chicken bits were out of this world.
Warm welcome, good range of drinks and food of good quality though a bit limited eg no sharing platters
