Nobels gate 32, 0268 Oslo, Norway, Oslo
Museum in former industrial setting housing many sculptures, woodcuts & drawings by Gustav Vigeland.
I really liked the Vigeland Museum, as it displayed the processes he used for his statues, how he went about sketching things with smaller and less detailed versions of his statues before Increasing the scale and detail. Very interesting overall and Id say its a good place for both people who are interested in art and those who arent that much, cause its still amazing to see.
Nice place to see sculpture art.
Very interesting museum, a „must see“ if you like the statues in the vigeland sculptures park. But the staff/cashier was very rude.
Ive been to see this sculpture museum and park twice now (in 2016 and 2021and both times i really enjoyed it. The park is a really pretty walk and scultures are amazing, this is coming from someone who doesnt have much experience with art but enough to enjoy it :)
Wonderful museum dedicated to the famous sculptor Gustav Vigeland. Located right next to the park that bears his name and many statues, it’s easily accessible via public transportation, either tram or buses. The exhibition itself is quite grand and extensive. Definitely worth a visit.
Wonderful museum right next to the park itself.
Not to be missed when visiting Oslo.
Placing a paid Vigeland museum next to the free Vigeland park may seem like a questionable marketing decision, but this unassuming brick structure could well be the greatest attraction in Oslo. It allows you to see casts and sculptures, up close, covering the gamut of Vigelands career, from the haunting, to the moving, to the ridiculous (the park is really only the third). Dont leave Oslo without visiting.
A vast collection.
I visited the Viegeland Museum on my last trip to Oslo. Unfortunately only 1/4 of the exhibition was open to visitors for renovation work :(. I still had to pay the full price and only received the information after I asked a security guard where I could get to the rest of the exhibition. So it was not possible for me to see the largest and most interesting part.
Small but nicely appointed museum for the prolific sculptor
Actually, it was more than what we expect. What a beautiful museum. We recommended this place to all Oslo visitors.
What can we say about this prolific sculptor with a perfect mastery of the moulding and carving technique... impressive!
Amazing story of Vigelands art and life. How did he work? The muzeum shows you every step in his life through his art.
Incredible sculptor. Amazing amount of work. So impressed. Then we went to the park and saw the final things.
A must see when visiting Oslo, giving context to the park which is more frequently visited.
A very nice museum, but I wish there werent so much echo in the halls.
A wonderful building dedicated to the amazing Gustav Vigeland, and a must visit after a trip through the neighbouring Vigeland Park. The vision, drive and talent of this man is superbly documented and explained in the soaring spaces of this beautiful museum.
Love this museum!
Very interesting exhibition about Norways most famous sculptor. Definitely worth visiting!
If you need to learn more about vigeland’s work and time , it ´s the place to see . Nice and interesting museum with the projects of the statues .
The best museum in Oslo Ive visited so far (visited all of em).
Lovely selection of work presented alongside that of other artists to provide extra context to the work, showing the artists who influenced Vigelands sculpture and how he in turn influenced them. Easy to navigate layout and good curation.
Really must see. Everything about life and death of human.
One of the best museums I’ve been too. The sculptures are astonishing. It also features the work of other sculptors.
I will recommend that place to everyone! Its a "must seen" place on your list if you want to go to Oslo! Fantastic sculptures and that amazing park next to the museum with the monolith in the very centre with a breathtaking views. This is where you will see the famous sculpture of a naked boy screaming and stamping his foot - Sinnataggen. You will never regret it.
Amazing sculpture museum. Excellent lighting for photos. Highly recommend after visiting the park.
The museum give an excellent history of the artist and the background to his development of his sculptures and the influences that he had at the time.
Amazing statues with awesome details!
The Vigeland museum has many of Gustav Vigelands plaster sculptures exhibited. This is the basis for many of the bronze statues in the Vigeland park. Great to see them close up.
Very cool sculptures, the place have many things to see and appreciate.
All of this man’s vision to me of this world is amazing, I fell in love with all his works, so touching for my soul 😊
The Vigiland sculptures are exquisite an astounding in its collection quantity. Interesting to see the process of the sculptures.
Nice. We went because the park was so interesting. The museum is a good supplement, but not the main attraction.
The way Vigeland express in his sculptures humans and his emotions trough different periods of life is so vivid. You can identify youtself with one or more.
The Vigeland park is understandably popular. The museum has the plaster versions of all those statues and shows you how that great art was achieved, and you have the place almost to yourself.
If you walk through the park and see all the sculptures I dont think you need to see this museum. There are some pieces that arent in the park but most are the same. There also isnt that much info on each piece. I wish I could have learned more.
Great place if you want to learn how sculptures in the park were created.
Amazing example of his work. The statues are very animated, and entertaining to look at. Inside is the models for the much larger scale outside statues.
If you like Vigeland park then you must visit this museum which shows Vigelands models used for sculptures and also other stuff related to this sculpturer.
Simply amazing! I knew nothing about this man before my visit to Oslo, now Im obsessed. This is a real insight into a true masters working process. There is also an unexpected weaving exhibition by the artist Aurora Passero, which was equally amazing and a nice contrast to the hard sculptures of Vigeland. Great value for money, I thoroughly recommend you all visit, only downside is no great catalogues available to buy...they are all a bit 90s.
Small but fantastic museum with some truly unique statues from a few time periods with many artists. Highly recommend coming here and spending some time to marvel at both the small and large artifacts. The museum is laid out extremely logically by time period and category and the reusable museum map is well made and reduces waste.
Interesting museum for those who have been to the park. It is possible to learn more about the sculptor and his creations. There are plenty of information including on the monolith assembly. Since it is just by the park, it is worth visiting both altogether. It is the most interesting museum in Oslo, even more than the one on vikings, in my humble opinion.
Beautiful park in the heart of Oslo. Excellent for walks and has a beautiful lake.
A gorgeous park with stunning depictions of humanity in statue form. It was a highlight of my trip to Norway.
Best experience I had in Oslo. There are many sculptures and a few are massive. Go before visiting the part located nearby to gain some perspective to the art.
There are more statues that were not featured out in the park. Great for hardcore sculpture / art fans, but may not be super interesting, as many of the pieces are already featured in the park. The sculptures not featured in the park deal with dark subject matter like oppression and death, so it may not be appropriate for young children.
The museum is the perfect addition to a visit to the Frognerpark / Vigelandspark. Getting to know about Gustav Vigeland, his life is a fantastic opportunity to understand his work even better. A lot of models used for statues in the park can be studied here. Temporary exhibitions from local and foreign artists are also interesting to see.If youre into sculpting and art and want to visit the sculpture park Id strongly suggest to also pay a visit to this museum.
I totally recommend to visit this museum before going to the Vigeland Park and see the original sculptures. Not only because Vigeland himself worked and lived inside this beautiful building, but because the enormous dimensions of his plaster sculptures can be seen closer than in the park and the history of the artist can be learned easily, which is really worth to be known too.
This is amazing place, which you should visit! Excellent park, nice statutes, green view and fountains. All this will give you amazing relaxing experience.
