The Veluwsche Steam Train Company - Rail museum in Oldebroek, Netherlands
A fun steam train ride with a visit in a train museum in the middle.
Fantastic working steam train to visit, 2 hour round trip with drinks and snacks available on board. You can also walk around the yard with many other locomotives in various states. On return to the yard the locomotive did a full rotation on the turntable before shunting some trucks around and returning to the engine shed allowing views of the whole locomotive.
Brilliant day out to see these beautifully restored steam engines in Holland. The journey was excellent and not crowded with plenty of opportunities to photograph the engines. Also a great opportunity to see the turntable in operation.
Eye-catching and interesting place to visit. Located close to Apeldoorn, NL.
Got a lot of very large old engines. Can get up close and has a small museum.A must for any enthusiasts.
It was so much fun to ride on an actual steamtrain. The kids had a lot of fun.
If you are with children who cant sit still, then I recommend you start with the departure from Beekbergen to Apeldoorn, because it goes to Apeldoorn and back ( approximately 1.5 hour ). This is enough time to keep the kids entertained, otherwise the whole ride is too long (almost 3 hours total).
It was a great experience!
Very well planned and very nostalgic.....Like stepping back in time!
Ended up here on accident , super cool place and a nice walk for the kids

Abusolutely lovely day trip and step back in time! Feels like a mini holiday outside Netherlands. The only tip is if you come with a baby, the child carriage won’t fit in these old steam trains. And dress up warm in autumn/winter because there is no heater inside the train.
What a spectacular sight. The engineering that makes a steam train is astonishing. You see these trains on the television, but standing next to one gives perspective to the size and complexity. If I have to give one piece of feedback, it would be to give more info on the train ride and what the possibilities are of getting on and off the train.
Nice place with over 15 locomotives if with 10 could drive. Very knowledgeable people and a nice trip in a old train with steam locomotive
Loved it! Very well kept engines as though they were just put into service. Great experience for all ages. Keep them rolling 👍
It was impressive to see this huge Steamtrain brings back memories of the steamtrain in anduze, France. I would recommend it. The part into Apeldoorn is in my opinion not the most scenic route but when you depart from Apeldoorn in the other direction you can really enjoy the beauty of the veluwe. Check out the pictures and decide for yourself.
They really try to capture the vibe of the old times. Not flashy and touristy, which I really appreciate. Too bad the restaurant in the train is closed due to the COVID-19 situation.
Officially closed, but easy to watch the impressive array of steam engines. Just great! Even more impressive than those in Mariembourg (B)
Great place to go and walk around even when closed because of Covid-19
Big locomotives, who wouldnt love that.
Amazing trip back in time! There was only one steam locomotive steaming today, really looking forward coming back when they have an event.
Great place to visit
Really nicely preserved train, friendly volunteer personnel, nice views.
Historically important, yearly event and often openings year round. Impressive collection of steam trains. People take the time to explain the origin of the machines, the state of maintenance and their functions. Allowed to come inside some of the hot and living. Note: steam and diesel (depot has many of them)
Beautiful Holland Train station and steem train ride
super
Perfect idea. Super friendly staf. Great team. My gratulation
Just returned from the steam festival, was a great day out. Lots of steam engines to see,and travel on.Great atmosphere. Highly recommended.
Nice day out on a preserved steam hauled train. The journey was longer than expected (a nice surpriseand wasnt running precisely to timetable, but being British were used to this. The museum at Beekbergen was more akin the the engine sheds of British preserved lines and less like the NRM at York. We all (2 adults + 4 year old + 7 year oldhad a good time and the staff were very friendly.
My son (age 3is really into trains so this was a must do adventure! Went from station Beekbergen to Dieren and visited the playground 15min walk from the train station and rode back with the train to Beekbergen.
Had a great time looking at awesome locomotives, an underrated place to go for sure.
The engines, coaches and buildings are very well restored and well keept. The staff was very gentle and friendly. The guard was very kind and gave us some interesting information on the railway and its history. Its definitely one of the best heritage railways in the world!
Nice location we didnt visit the Museum but looked around outside at the trains
Brilliant. Beautiful collection of working old steam trains. Very recommendable is the first weekend of September, where all working equipment is being used. Impressive!
What a wonderful train ride... Historical experience. All staff was dressed as they did ages ago. The atmosphere was very nice. We enjoyed it a lot and will return soon for another ride!
Cute steam railway, couple of engines in various stages of reconstruction, gives a good idea of the size and power of these machines
Its okay, expensive food for what it is. Enjoyable nonetheless.
An amazing bit of history and a fun day for the family.
Review based on the yearly Terug naar Toen event, which is the key moment to visit. One of the few railway museums in the Netherlands that is allowed on the national rail system, they have a collection of German mainline steam locomotives, and a few diesels.During the event there is regular service in two directions, and a lot of activities for everyone interested in trains of all sizes.
Largest collection of German steam locomotives in the Netherlands.
First few miles not very interesting
Lunch served in a vintage Wagon-Lits, wonderful!
Do you like train? Check out this location for some cool old trains and locomotives.
Lots of running steam trans, plenty of things going on.
Great day out with the family, step back in time and enjoy the steamtrain ride. Beekbergen station is the home of many still running giant steam dinosaurs, visite the workshop, many of the volunteers are more than willing to tell you about their history an how they are kept running.
Cool place for lovers of steam trains
Great family attraction. Especially with small kids (3+)
Beautifully restored trains, and a fun little trip to nowhere. Not much of a museum, mainly an interesting train yard.
Great little trip stand behind the engine and feel the raw steam power
While cycling around in Gelderland, we bumped inexpectedly on a bunch of photographers and a closed railway crossing. Immediately I took my camera out of my backpack and yes, and an old steam in full regalia passed by and stopped in the station of Beekbergen. We put our bicycles in a stand, walked in for free and bought a piece of apple pie with tea. Afterwards we walked around and enjoyed the magnificent steams and more recent locomotives and wagons.
