The VHC in Welland

Came here for the first time a few months ago. Restaurant was clean and staff was somewhat friendly. Felt that we were unattended to quite a bit and had to frequently make contact with our waitress. I love vegan food and was surprised at how delicious most of the items we ordered were. The only thing that was quite bland was the pasta. The seitan wings were amazing and the flavor profile was awesome. I did enjoy the salad. Would be curious to try other options off the menu.

Small place but big on service. Loved my Kale Caesar salad. Will definitely come back.

This place is far from home in another country... actually only about 60 min except for the congested border entry to the US on a Sunday. Anyway. This place is awesome. Loved the vibe. Our server was super warm and friendly and made the experience even better. My son wanted to do military dress up today so we did it together and his dinner choice was a waffle that he loved. I on the other hand am doing vegan keto so I had to stick with salads...Which was hard to do in a place like this with so many great options on the menu. I got the beet salad and a kale salad. The beet salad was good but kale salad was great! I think if my wife and I were able to have a nice date here and we could have some drinks it would be a great night. Looking forward to returning.

Their food is delicious the Scenery is great. I should go when the have music night.

I found out about this restaurant from my vegan daughter; she raved about it, so I reserved a table for her birthday. We traveled about 40 km to get there, but it was definitely worth it. Starting with the flexible business hours (on a Tuesday when a lot of restaurants are closed), the ease of making a reservation, friendly communication, ambiance of the place, genuinely friendly and professional server, diversity of the menu, and last but not least, one of the best vegan food I have eaten. My husband is not a vegan, but he liked the food a lot. The portions are generous, and the presentation is picture worthy. I would go back anytime, and I am wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant to anyone. I wish they can open a place in Niagara-on-the-Lake where we live, because the vegan choices in our town are unfortunately very limited.

Its gone downhill. Food is unpredictable and the service is bad. One time you order seitan wings and they are crispy, the next time they are soft and barely cooked. Ive waited over and hour for food here and they only have one server that cant keep up. Ive had a few bad experiences and wont be back. They need more servers or a bartender so the server isnt trying to do both jobs. The food is pretty expensive so you would expect a good product and quality service.

Im not even vegan and I think the food here is incredible , Ive gone 4 or 5 times now and have yet to have a bad experience , super awesome place to grab a bite !

Excellent service! I noticed a few customers commented that the service/ time to be seated was slow even though the restaurant didnt seem very busy. I promise you that the waiters/ cook are always occupied doing everything they can to make things run smoothly.

The best place ever that makes everyone feel welcome and serves fantastic food! I appreciate all of the work they do for the LGBTQ2s+ community and the work they do to support grey’s haven farm sanctuary. Their servers, especially Tino, are always attentive to detail and genuinely care about people. The VHC is by far the best restaurant you can go to.

I love the place and I love the food. Just one thing. The past few times I have been there I have stood at the door a long time waiting to be seated. The last time two employees were behind the bar and they saw me Im sure. They said nothing and kept me waiting although the place was not busy. I work in a restaurant and would never do this. Even when its busy Ill at least tell them Ill be a minute and seat them swiftly. The past few times were similar. You should really get on top of this since its most annoying not even to be acknowledged. Other than that service is good and food is excellent.

Some days the food is great other days not so much. The last few take out orders have been a let down with mix ups and quality not being great. I did call in to make mention of the order (cauliflower wings undercooked, sandwich had onions when not ask for, etc). You could tell whoever took the call didnt care and had a poor attitude.

Oh my goodness! So tasty! I got a simple coffee but it was really good! I’m not used to proper, hot, GOOD coffee from small shops.I went just for one coffee & the owner was so kind, friendly, welcoming.. very lovely, thank you!

While I’m not vegetarian I appreciate a good meal and a healthy one at that. Vegan Hippie Chick offers plenty of plant based meat options for the Herbivore at heart or those looking to expand their palate. There are both indoor and outdoor seating options. The food is full of flavour and fresh and the service great. Will be back to try more of the menu in the future.

The food was so good. I really ate too much lol. Its a little more pricey than what Im used to but definitely worth it!All vegan, so I could order whatever I wanted I love that!

There are lots of positives to recommend this restaurant. The food was delicious and the server was friendly.. unfortunately, the service was very slow considering there werent that many customers at the time. There are gluten free options on the menu but these are geared towards sensitivity and not Celiac disease and server could have been a little more knowledgeable. A dedicated fryer would really help expand GF choices. Even with said limitations they were able to prepare a special delicious dish that took into account Celiac accommodations. Very good!

Held a networking event at VHC with select food available family style for anyone attending. I must say, as a non-vegan, the food was awesome! The Buffalo Jackfruit dip was ridiculously good! Service was awesome and Tino did a great job keeping up with everyones drinks, etc.

Passing through Welland today, what an awesome surprise! Had the seitan wrap and it was phenomenal. Can’t wait to go back!

Unmatched by anything in the area - VHC provides high quality vibes and even higher quality food. As I perused their wares, I selected their finest of tacos and wasfar from disappointed. Fun. Friendly. Stellar. VHC might as well stand for Very Happy Chap, because that’s what I was at the end of the night.

Nothing but good things to say about this place. Shared a meal today on Easter Sunday. The food was excellent, the host was friendly and helpful and the atmosphere was second to none. Will definitely be back ! Ill be waiting for the mushroom reuben 🙂 and dont forget the love and compassion. God has definitely blessed this place and the people ✨💗🫂❤️🙏

Delicious food an explosion of flavors in your mouth. That was my experience. Friendly service and clean restaurant. Will definitely be coming back for more!

I’m from the GTA area and I’m on vacation in Fort Erie, I drove like 40 minutes to VHC and it was worth it. The food was amazing, my kids and wife loved it!! The shrimp was delicious, the tacos and the Mac and cheese too!! We will drive the 2 hours from home to get a delicious dinner.

Having endless options for someone that has to eat gluten/vegan was incredible. I got the walnut and mushroom pizza, my partner got the fish and chips. Both were amazing, portions are big so can definitely get you at least 2 meals. Service was so friendly and fast. Will definitely be coming back

I had some vegan fam over from outta town. I called when the VHC to place an order and I was excited to show off their food. Welland Hydro had a powerline down and the VHC had no power... The VHC let me know when the power was back on and got me my food ASAP!! They saved my family dinner and they were incredibly friendly at the same time! I cant recommend this place enough. Im not vegan and I found a lot of great stuff on the menu, Cauliflower(chicken wings),Mozza Sticks and the mac and cheese are all great!!

I cant believe its not meat!. I just had a pizza and the chickn wings.. and wow. It was so so so good; i am still surprised at how tasty it was. VHC will make it so much easier for me to cut my meat consumption. This is my new treat night place to go.

It is offbeat, different and good.... restaurant has good metro decor and so doest the menu....little different but nice change....cheers to them

The new brunch is amazing. I get the smoothie bowl and avocado toast every Sunday!

It was absolutely amazing. My wife and recently started dabbling in vegan food. We were VERY pleased to find a local vegan restaurant.Definitely is a favourite in my books. The atmosphere is great, the food was next level. My personal favourite are the cauliflower bites! If you feel like trying something new with friends or just you, you will not be disappointed!

Ordered for the first time this past Wednesday and got their Wednesday special. AMAZING! Everything was soooo good. I also highly recommend getting the vegan buffalo chicken dip... SO good and a very generous portion! I will definitely be ordering again! I was very impressed with their food and service.Update: we dined in last week and the food was amazing! Staff were very friendly :)

Oct. 2021 Updated Review - We went to the VHC for our anniversary last night and once again we were blown away with how delicious the food is.The spinach dip is phenomenal and the fish and chips I ordered were amazing too!If you’ve been hesitant to go vegan, give this place a try and I assure you that you’ll be convinced!The staff is also excellent. Our waiter Tino last night really made us feel welcome and they really contributed to the “at home” feel of the VHC.Highly recommend to anyone!

The waitress was so sweet! Theyake everything from scratch when you order so some things may take up to 30 minutes to make, but if you take an appetizer than the wait goes by really quickly. The food was great and I was too full to try their dessert, but they looked great. The decor was nice, and they have a terasse. The menu is obviously all vegan, and they have tons of gluten-free options! We made the detour while visiting Niagara Falls and it was definitely worth it.

Met a vegan friend for lunch yesterday. Ordered the pepperoni pizza. They were out of the pepperoni, offering sausage, instead. It was very good, and they even sent us couple of free crabless cakes (also tasty,while we were waiting.Outdoor seating was nice. Staff were friendly and attentive.You dont have to be vegan to eat here. Im glad I tried it out!

Always in love with The VHC! I respect their decision to keep the dining room closed for Covid! Good on you for looking out for everyones best interests! Glad I can still get take out!

I’ve been going here at least every other month or so since it was originally a little cafe down the street. But the new menu is so incredible I finally have to leave a review of this amazing vegan restaurant. The new vegan “fish” menu items are outstanding. I love that they’re not made from a “substitute” but just a little known vegetable, freshly battered and perfectly fried. I ordered both the fish tacos and the fish and chips because I couldn’t decide. The server we had this evening was professional and down to earth and made our visit very pleasant. We drive 45 minutes from Dunnville to get there, so if you’re anywhere in the region I promise it’s worth the drive to Welland to go to The VHC.

Truly excellent quality food. I am not a vegan nor a vegetarian but I need to eat vegan for 2 weeks .... I wasnt sure I will like it .... I loved it; I am certainly going back 👍👍👍

This is my all-time favorite restaurant. Literally everything on the menu is amazing and it is a big menu!My family and I always visit here when I am in town. It has become somewhat of a tradition. I highly recommend the mozzarella sticks and the BBQ Whiskey sandwich, but really you cant go wrong with whatever you order!

Excellent food and great service! We dined indoors and it was spacious and enjoyable. Reservations arent required, but are recommended for the dinner rush. The food was even better than expected, especially the kale Caesar salad! The food is a great deal. Its not too expensive and you get so much food for the price. We cant wait to visit again soon!

Overall a good experience. The cocktails were quite affordable but they weren’t strong. I can’t think of any other decent place that sells cocktails for $8 CAD!The good was good. I liked my vegan BLT but the pesto panini was as just okay.The service was good was well. Even though the host was quite busy, she was paying good attention to everyone.

If I could give more stars I would! Hands down the best plant based food I have ever had. Drove two hours to buy a bunch of vegan food with my friend and would drive twice the distance for VHC. We had the Reuben and it was the best sandwich ever, do not leave without one. Also had the Crispy Chicken sandwich with the tater tots and again, completely blown away. Those taters were magical and the chicken had an amazing texture with a crispy exterior. We split the Mac and Cheese and demolished it within minutes. The pictures arent flattering or too pretty but its the taste that matters and it will make your day wonderful. WILL be back for another Reuben and dying to try the seitan bites.☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆

The food here is always amazing and unbelievably delicious. This is my go to place to order food with the most wonderful, kind, and accommodating service I have ever experienced from a restaurant. If I could give more than 5 stars I would. You will not regret ordering from The Vegan Hippie Chick. Even if you’re not vegan in your every day life. I love meat as much as the next person. However I would recommend this food over any other takeout in the area.

Any place that has Jessica Wilson performing is a great place to be. The atmosphere is very good, the host was quite pleasant and accommodating, the sound of the live music is superb, the French Fries with gravy were very delicious (the best Ive ever had), and I will certainly return here.

This is my ultimate favourite restaurant! Apparently most people who dine there arent even vegan! Goes to show you how amazing the food is! Amazing gluten-free options are frequently available as well! My non-vegan friends love the place! The staff here is literally the best! Theyre like one big family. Support an amazing local business and get treated with the best food and service around! My favourite dish depends on the mood! For lunch I love the club, its higher in price, but its HUGE! When im craving a burger, I always get the mac! Popcorn chicn is always a must!! Its so much like a big mac but no animals involved! I also love the poutine! The gravy is the perfect balance. I go here pretty often and can attest to how great the VHC is! Whatever you order, Im sure youll love it too! I am not huge into vegan food. But this place had amazing food even for someone who isnt a vegan. I very much enjoyed everything I had there. Their cauliflower wings were huge and delicious.

Food was great! Server was polite. Place is very clean and quaint. I have been waiting months to try this place! Sadly, we were a bit disappointed when the server forgot to mention on the "Seitan or chickn" fajita" ( as labelled on menu as 16 dollars, that they charged an extra $4 for the chickn in the fajita. So labeling an item that you can choose either those two, but we will charge you 4 dollars for it was not listed on the menu. Other than this hiccup, we made the best of our experience. And if you go, you MUST try the cauliflower wings! To die for! And the owner(chef serves it right to your table herself :also had the chickn parm (pic for proof)

Great food! Very well put together and tastes very close to a meal with meat! The spicy coleslaw is nice and spicy!

Amazing fresh ingredients. Even though I love my meat, I couldnt help but want more of the cauliflower wings I was served. 100% vegan friendly and delicious. My wife got a Kale salad and loved it, I got buffalo cauliflower wings and you literally couldnt tell the difference.

My sister knew of the place and so we checked on Easter sunday and they had a table avail. brunch menu was very appealing and service A1, i got the Benidict and sis got breakfast combo, price was right, she bought lolDelicious food i will definitely return

Love love love VHC - always something new and different to try. Beautiful spot, attentive service, huge portions, live entertainment; what more can you ask for? I highly recommend the spinach dip!

I made reservations here for my 8th anniversary and wasnt too sure what to expect but from their Instagram I knew it was going to be good! Complimentary chips and salsa to begin and I knew I was in the right place.The Buffalo chickn dip was good and a pretty big app as well! I had the Mac burger and upgraded the side to sweet potato fries, a double patty challenge with the black bean and sweet potato patty option. Theres a few choices of bun as well, I had the regular bun this time but am going to try the pretzel bun next time. The burger was great! Very flavorful and not dry at all! It will get messy but thats due to the double patty. My girlfriend had the Mac and Cheese and loved it! Its spirelli pasta and the sauce is cashew based and very good! As far as portion sizes go, they are big! We ended up taking home most of the sweet potato fries, half the pasta and some of the dip!The staff were very attentive and we were never without water or napkins etc. We even got them to take a picture of us celebrating our anniversary and at the end they brought us a complimentary brownie! We were overwhelmed by their kindness and will definitely make this a regular date destination!Did I mention there was wonderful live music all night as well? Every Saturday!If you havent been here yet, you really should!

All the food is wonderful. We had cauliflower wings, fried pickles, mozzarella sticks and the Beyond Meat burger with mushrooms! Live band playing some great music too. Good vibe and great place to stop.

So as a Non Vegan I was a bit hesitant about eating here but my Daughter asurred me I would love it.. I trusted her and we decided to go ..I was not disappointed. The place was clean and very inviting to the eye on entering. It had a warm feeling to it and the Staff and owner made us feel welcomed.. I ordered and had the best Mushroom Caps ever! Everyone loved what they got..Bing your apitite as the portions a big All the food was fresh and well prepaired..Our host Cloiee was exceptional. The washrooms are very clean and it is wheelchair access. As a Non Vegan I highly recommend this place to everyone!
