The Tourmalet - Pub in Edinburgh, United Kingdom
Not your usual place for a pint. Bit skeezy but the bar staff are great, pints are well looked after and the bottle selection is fantastic. Also fish tank is mesmerising
Best place for a drink
Great peanut souffle shooters.
Great bar, great staff, great selection at the bar. This place is super welcoming and chilled. It has a mixed demographic and you feel like you could be sat next to anyone and have a nice time. Has an eclectic decor thats effortlessly cool. Top spot
Great little pub. Friendly staff
Great pub! Really nicely decorated with friendly staff. A Leith gem.
Nice pub but needs a bit of a clean
The Tourmalet is a small, corner-shop public house on a quiet side-street. Notable for its decor, which includes an airfix model Battle of Britain and Hornby model railway going on overhead, its a good place for a quiet pint with a couple of friends. Toilets are downstairs, so not accessible to wheelchairs. They keep the usual suspects on draught and a good range of German beers in the fridge.
Classic pub, dog friendly, quirky decor and good beer, whats not to like.
Amazing pub, great beer, lovely people. Highly recommended, thanks for a great night!
Lovely pub and super nice and helpful bartenders <3
Individuality has become so rare or formulaic that the Tourmalet seems quirky. I prefer to enjoy it as being honest to personal tastes.Always good German beers in the fridge and rarely the obvious choices on tap.Hopefully it is treasured for years to come.
super cosy wee pub, good beer selection, friendly bar folk, and you can bring your own food which makes it just about the best place ever
awesome small pub. nice bar, great staff and lovely atmosphere
Always a great night, brilliant selection of beer and great atmosphere!
Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. And every trad, old school pub has a bohemian watering hole opposite. And in this case, its true! Over the road from The Strathmore is The Tourmalet, named after (not for, United Statersthe mountain that challenges participants in Le Tour de France. Cycling paraphernalia abounds but also strange WWIi airfix model fighters battling it out amidst cotton wool clouds and soothing fish tanks. Reasonable drink range that specialises in German bottled beers. And all just off Leith Walk, the walk of life...
Great pub, friendly efficient staff, good selection of beers. Nice atmosphere and quality music playing
Dog friendly pub with great selection of beers and ciders. Very nice staff.
Quirky, chilled, dog-friendly neighbourhood pub with Caledonian Coast to Coast pale ale on tap and a massive selection of German beers in bottles. My favourite local.
Could be amazing local bar, if only they spent time cleaning the beer pipes and the toilets, hell they were boggin...
Good selection of bottled beer and good atmosphere but not much selection of draught and toilets are pretty dodge
Great quirky local. Its board games, a good selection of bottled beer and a cycling theme.
Good pub with lots of different German beers and usually a couple of dogs too.
Very unique and interesting interior with clouds, fish and a gorilla. Space was comfortable and service was without fault. Theres a digital projector for watching old films there too. Would recommend this Pub without question
A quirky pub with great atmosphere. Although I dont think the selection of beers on tap is that exciting, the setting and vibe makes it up for it. Really like dropping anchor there for a few pints, looking at all the pieces of quirky decor and striking the occasional blether. The place is just off the main road which makes it a nice hidden spot for locals.
Been going here for years, great pub. Dont be put off by appearances.
One of my favourite pubs in Leith, great staff and a lovely selection of German beers
Met here for a first date in May, have just returned six months later in November. Were still together. This place has a special magic!
Friendly pub good staff, nice beer and they will make u any cocktail you want:
Excellent range of German beers and beers from the Continent, matched only by the ambience created from the staff and the locals.
Great selection of German beer. Quirky and could be dismissed as a bit of a dive bar but it is a gem.
Fantastic selection of German beers that you would struggle to find elsewhere. Welcoming staff and interesting decor. Big cycling fans, hence the name, and you have to check out the ceiling in the small room through the back.
Never been in before but looks like a lovely wee pub, would be nice with some hanging plants outside.
The Tourie is a great institution, great selection of German beers, amazing spicy pickled eggs and tropical fish. Id happily spend my wages here every Friday, and I recommend you do the same!
Inviting and warm welcome to strangers from the Left Coast of USA, good beer, good friends made and 3 interestingly different nights at closing times. Hi to Colin, Sam, Philip and Rob from a fading old memory bank. Slang’e Var to you all
Kronenbourg is the best Ive tasted anywhere, very dog friendly and relaxed vibe. One of the hidden gems of Leith
Friendly bar staff and nice beers, all around £4 a pint mind. Attracts some local colour. Last time we were there two amiable nutcases wandered in and out but they were friendly enough. On a shady corner of Iona Street, so usually a bit quieter than the Leith Walk boozers. Nice.
Great cosy little pub. Good selection of beer.
German beers served in steins, strange decor eclectic music and all sorts of locals frequent this place
List this pub under "hidden treasure". Great pub to sit and sip your beer and chat with your friends. A good selection of ales and bottled beers-The German beers are second to none and I would say probably one of the best in Edinburgh. The Tourmalet sits just off Leith walk- which means many people pass it by, on their way to the more trendy bars. It still has local feel to it, and you will quite often find yourself at the end of the night striking up conversations with people from all over the place. So if you are looking for something a wee bit different then head doon Leith and turn off the Walk.
This is one of those few pubs in Leith that can still be classed as an old mans pub, but without being scary or dodgy. If youre after a place that feels like a local, then this is for you! A bit dated, but it all adds to the charm. A nice place for a quiet drink.
Finally paid a visit to Tourmalet yesterday and really enjoyed. Nice little pub with a friendly atmosphere and a great selection of beers.
The Tourmalet sums up what I love about Leith. The interior is a bit scruffy but it just adds to the charm of the place. A great selection of booze and a chilled out, warm welcome. Well worth a visit.
Love this quirky bicycle themed pub! So much so, Ive added to it to my personal list of fave locals! I was always curious about this brightly painted pub which opened in back in 2009, I just dont know it took me so long to venture into it?! Its a niche bar, specialising in German weissbier and boy, do they know their stuff! The bar staff are always super friendly and happy to recommend their latest German beer to suit your taste. The beers change often so youll always find something new.As well as loving bikes and German beer... they love dogs too! Ive never been in here and not seen a furry four legged friend. Theres lots of unique memorabilia on the walls to keep you distracted and a fish tank too. The pub has a friendly loyal but diverse group of followers and Tourmalet have made it a welcoming cosy space for everyone. Thankfully you can leave the cycling shorts at home in order to be a part of it!
This is a great little pub !!! Cosy and a little crazy : )The Pub has a cycling theme & everytime i go into it i notice something different, fromthe wine corks on the window ledges to a map of Paris on the ceiling in the little area at the back.Nothing pompous about this pub, but always friendly and inviting equipped with a little book shelf with someinteresting reads.A little gem in Leith!
I like this place a lot! Every time I go in (maybe once every couple of monthsI am was made to feel like a regular by lovely ladies behind the bar. We natter about the German bottled beers they have brought in by a man in a van as if we were old friends! It was rather busy and so we often share a table with other people. Its that kind of place it would seem - friendly, happy go lucky, chat to your neighbour kind of place. The beers were fab . Not cheap at £4 a pop but they are quality, craft brews imported from Germany. Tasty beer that you wont get any where else in a hurry and a truly convivial atmosphere. We often play scrabble (my own boardlate in to the night there, much to the amusement of other drinkers.
The Tourmalet is a bit of European charm, hidden just off Leith Walk.On Buchanan Street you can find The Tourmalet, a cosy little pub stuffed with European feeling. Its name is from Col du Tourmalet, one of the hardest climbs of the Tour De France, and the bar is decorated with lots of cycling memorabilia, as well as an aquarium, a giant gorilla statue and other bijou odds and ends. But while the feeling might be continental, the beer is decidedly Germanic. There is much Dunkel to be had, exported dark German lager. Mr Skinner drank Göller Kaiser Heinrich Urweisse Hell, a sweet wheat beer, yellow and fruity. I had Tegernseer Dunkel Export, a sweet, dark caramel lager. Both were excellent, and both were chosen on the recommendation of the bar staff – always a good sign.Like The Regent, The Tourmalet is dog friendly, and they have a deal with a local pizzeria Origano for inexpensive food options. Brightly decorated, lots brown beer and brilliant bar staff – definitely more laid-back than oh-la-la.
Another one of Leiths finer pubs. Youll pay slightly more than you would in some of the more "local" pubs, but for a far better range of drinks and an atmosphere thats hard to match. Some great tunes every time Ive been, the music has never been off taste - and a brilliant selection of snacks will keep you munching away until its time to go home :)Make sure to ask what beers they have in, as theyre constantly changing and have a few absolute gems in from time to time.
Great little pub with an original selection of German beers. Has a great room with armchairs and a "fireplace".
This is a great pub with really friendly staff. Excellent range of drinks including lots of unusual German bottled wheat beers. Dog friendly to boot.
