The Tiki Terrace in Des Plaines
Description
Privilege
Loved the show - - it was very entertaining! The music, decor and ambiance was fantastic. However, food was quiet mediocre. It’s $49 per person and you get a salad (a tiny bowl of just greens and carrotsalong with an entree (choice of pork, chicken, hamburger steak, salmon and one pasta vegetarian option which I gotand two very tiny slices of mousse cake for dessert. Other dessert options were an extra $4.99. My brother had an alcoholic beverage (which I forgot the namethat he enjoyed. He also had the Kalua pork and the coconut cake dessert which he said were OK.
MoreAn absolute dream!!! So warm and beautifully decorated and the food … WOW. A crowd pleaser with something for everyone, including my super picky 4 year old who was obsessed with having his own umbrella straw and a virgin Volcano drink! He devoured his kids portion of Loco Moco and ate a whole serving of edamame beans all on his own. My husband and I had the coconut chicken, the Navy Grogg (soooo yummy), and the California Poke (YUM!We will definitely be back!
MoreThe show, the presentation of food and the service was great!!
Went there Friday at 4:30 to have dinner only. Called week before. Said having dinner only before show not a problem. When we showed up they told us will start serving dinner at 6. Did not have any workers. Could of told me beforehand to call first. Was there years ago for dinner and luau. It was nice back then.
MoreThe show was SUPER FUN and entertaining--would have given 5 stars if based on that alone. Food would likely have been great if we had gotten all of it (i.e., we never had our saladsand our entrées hadnt been sitting in a prep window/come out simultaneously (one of our partys entrées came out 30 min prior to the rest of ours). As someone previously working in the service industry, I am usually compassionate towards busy evenings, mistakes, or long waits, particularly if the server is busting a** or apologetic. Unfortunately, this was not the case. BOTTOM LINE: sit at the bar and enjoy the show. 🙂
MoreJust tried Tiki Terrace Food Truck at a local brewery! The food was amazing! We tried the veg egg rolls, the Loco Moco, and the shrimp and spare ribs plate . Food was fresh and took us back to Hawaii! Definitely check them out!!
MoreAwesome experience, great show. Went for my bday and had a great time. Salmon was great and my drink as well.
MoreI hired The Tiki Terrace to bring their gorgeous food truck to my annual company picnic and I can’t recommend them enough. 12/10They were wonderful to collaborate with on building a special food & bar menu for the event, and everyone was blown away by the incredible food and tiki drinks. A few people even said it was their favorite thing they’ve ever had in Chicago. It was perfect - fresh, authentic, flavorful, filling but not heavy - for an outdoor event on a hot day.I’ll definitely be making the trip to Des Plaines to see the whole Tiki Terrace crew again, and hopefully get to see their live show!
MoreNice and entertaining place! Small, looks like a family business, but we’ll organized! For the nights when there are shows, there is a menu you need to buy , is $49,99 and has a salad, entree and dessert, but you can buy more food. Drinks are ok too. We’ve been when Elvis sang, pretty good and kept people entertained!
MorePhenomenal atmosphere that made me feel like I was truly in Hawaii!! The service, food, and drinks were great, and to top it off Hugo the Elvis impersonator was off the charts amazing!!
MoreAll star ⭐️ goes to u ! Totally worth it…. Full enjoyment, full entertainment with good food 🥳🥳🥳we celebrate my son’s shourya’s bday there… superb experience 🥳🫶🔥❤️
MoreA group of friends joined my wife and me here to celebrate my 65th birthday. We had a great time. Between us we had the pork dinner, chicken dinner and hamburger steak dinner. They were generous portions and all tasted very good. For drinks most of us had one of their special cocktails which were very tasty and most were priced at 8.50. For dessert everyone had the included one, but me. I had the coconut cake. The desserts were good, but the extra charge for my cake wasnt worth it.The entertainment was 2 dancers and an emcee. It was extremely enjoyable. A good time was had by all.
MoreI really enjoyed my time at The Tiki Terrace. The vibe and atmosphere is awesome! The dancers and the host gave us an incredible show. The Kalua Pork was good, but a little bit salty. The Piña Colada and the raspberry mousse cake were delicious!
MoreMy husband and I loved this small taste of Hawaii took us back to memories we missed.
MoreThis was the worst experience we ever had. We had the most expensive package which included 1 appetizer, 1 entree, dessert and 2 drinks plus a lei . The food was sub par . Pork was old. Chicken was frozen and salmon was old and had a very fishy taste. The tropical drinks were NOT made with fresh juices and so terrible made everyone sick. The place it self was dirty and broken down . The show was nice but nothing special it was not worth the 80 some dollars a person by no means and we didn’t get a lei. Don’t waist your time or money
MoreI was there last night and I was impressed despite the negative reviews. The food was great, the salmon, coconut chicken, the fries and calamari were amazing. My picky kid loved the noodles. The show was great. A nice atmosphere all together. I am coming back for sure.
MoreHeard great things about this place but for me the only thing great was the waitress and the salad dressing. The food was presented so well, however it did not meet my expectation. I can not recommend this venue but can recommend the host of the show. His wayward humor was refreshing and the birthday dances were comical. If you have a chance to go, pass.
MoreThank you, Tiki Terrace, for a GREAT birthday celebration with my family! Your Original Mai Tais were top notch, everyone loved the appetizers and entrees, all three desserts were delicious, and my kids absolutely loved that all the birthday girls in the house got to hula on stage. Not pictured are the birthday men doing the Haka. Warm, festive atmosphere with wonderful staff and friendly, authentic performers who truly love what they do and who made the evening very special. Do you and your family a favor...drive out of the snow and straight into The Tiki Terrace. You wont be disappointed!
MoreVery Good food with a very beautiful Hawaii style Live dance and environment. Very lively and interactive dance, they though us lot of Hawaii language like Haloha means Hello. Dance was super super awesome, we went a day before my birthday, they called me in the stage and made me to dance few steps. Was fun filled restaurant must visit. No disappointments 100% fun guaranteed.
MoreThe Tiki Terrace is Chicagoland’s best place for authentic Polynesian cuisine and amazing Polynesian performances. The food are a delight to enjoy. My personal favourite is the loco moco. I ordered the dish every time I visit. And the shows are wonderful. Hawaiian hula, Tahitian, Samoan, Tongan, and Maori dances are the reason that I always visit just about every month. I recommend the Tiki Terrace to those who has the aloha spirit. 💙
MoreWe visited 11/06/21:ALOHA! Welcome to the Tiki Terrace! The Tiki Terrace is a very entertaining place to visit! This is the closest to being in the islands that you can get without leaving the chicagoland area. We had our reservation which you can start by visiting their website. We got ther We at 4pm. The service staff is extremly polite and kind! You are automatically served water when you sit down. You are given 2 menus, one with appetizers and package options, the other one has their drinks listed. You automatically get the aloha dinner which is pulled pork, meatballs, and a bbq chicken. We opted for the couples package which included a lai for each person, and the following menu options (this is in addition to th aloha dinner). You get to choose either potstickers or pork eggrolls and taro chips. Having had taro many tines i had never had taro chips before, i was pleasantly surprised they were great and included a mango type salsa. For the drinks, our package included 2 drinks frim the drinks menu, plus another regillable sotdrink or tea as well. I got the original mai tai which was not too sweet and had a perfect taste. My girlfriend got the tiki mai tai which was a little bit sweeter and was good. We added an additional appetizer and got the coconut chicken sliders, you need to order these, they are delicious. The dinner is served family style on a bed of rice. Everything was delicious. When the show started it was around 5:15, and it was fun and interactive! You are transformed into a tour of the islands ranging from Hawaii, to Easter Island, to Fiji. The dancers change into different costumes based on what island is being represented.Since we were going there for my birthday i got called up on stage to learn a dance with a few other people that wss fun! This is a very entertaining place to visit, and very nicely decorated. When we were done and walking out it was about 6:15pm.I cant thank our kind server enough she was very pleasant and friendly and helpful by suggesting items that were her favorite. Over all i rate my experience a 20/10 and will definitely go back!
MoreThe food was not great one dinner had eggshells all the dinner was served like a carry out all the dinner was missing a sidedish Hawaiian mac I ordered ribs & shrimp they gave me it look like pork chops & shrimps
MoreI wish I should have trusted all the 1 star reviews. Like other reviews state- worst food ever. Chicken wings undercooked, coconut chicken tasteless, kalbi short rib okay on taste, katsu chicken tasteless and undercooked.Taro chips were good and choco lava cake was good,Just go for the vibe and drinks. For food I recommend subway that’s next door over this restaurant.
MoreWhat a great experience all the way around.Great food and drinks. The entertainment was 1 hour long and very entertaining. 2 hour dinner experience.Location between orielys and subway was a little weird but the inside is great
MoreThe food with the show wasnt amazing but the show was amazing! It even held my two-year-old grandsons attention for 3 hours.Very unique atmosphere you wont find anywhere else. The performers were exceptional and even came out afterwards to talk to the guests and take pictures.
MoreThis is a review for a take out order. We ordered drinks and food to go. While we waited for our food, we were able to get a drink and enjoyed the ambiance. We enjoyed our food, but the poke was a little fishy. We would highly recommend the Kahlua pork though!
MoreBooking a reservation was probably the worst part about my experience here. We tried booking through Google always days in advance but it was always returned as booked. I finally decided to call and was told by the host that we should book at least 2 weeks in advance, which we did via phone. Problem solved. They requested that we arrive about an hr early to get settled in before the show. This place is in a strip mall which I was not expecting. Outside does nothing to prepare you for the inside.. The inside takes you to another place! The ambience was great and the interior was decorated nicely. This place isnt huge but I think the size is just enough so that every table gets a good view of the stage. Everything on the menu reminds you of a Hawaiian island. Dinner for 2 was about $60. The meal is already chosen for you. You have the option to buy additional appetizers and beverages. The prices were not too bad. From previous reviews, I was expecting to be wowed by the food. I was not. The food was average, at best. The preset meal was nothing spectacular. The best thing I tried were the egg rolls and they were an additional expense. We also ordered alcoholic drinks. The piña Colado was good, not strong. My friend said the Mai Tai had a nice kick. The plain water they gave us had a really weird taste. My friend and I both tasted it. We didnt complain so Im not sure if anyone else felt the same way.The show was entertaining. The male host was lively and the girls did good. Id say come for the experience but its definitely not something Id do twice 🤷🏾♀️. Our bill was about $120 with an additional 1 soda, 2 alcoholic beverages and 3 appetizers. Groupon will save you $20-$40 depending on how big your party is.
MoreFood and drinks were delicious!!! Christina was an awesome waitress. The ambiance and decor were on point and we had the restaurant for ourselves which was the cherry on top👌
MoreThis place is fun and we’ve had 4 weeks or so with nothing but snow and below 15 degree weather so it was quite welcome. Food was a mix from good to ok. Nothing bad and nothing amazing. 3 people cost $200 and we were there for the show. I want to help during the pandemic but I couldn’t afford to do this too often. I’m not saying it wasn’t a nice diversion, it was and it’s unique. My son is more concerned with Covid but nothing here seemed slightly dicey. Employees wore masks. They followed good neighborly concern. They have dividers between tables. I did not go to the bathroom, so I can’t comment on cleanliness.
MoreShow and service was Amazing!! Best Mai Tai I every had! Appetizers were great ! I wasnt a fan of the family style food we had due to it being a Birthday! I would go back and order other things!!
MoreOnline ordering and curbside pick up was very convenient. Food was delicious and very reminiscent of hearty Hawaiian plate lunches in taste and portions. They were running a little slower than usual but made up for it with their excellent pina coladas. Even without the comp, the menu is worth the wait! Hope to catch the hula show one day!
MoreReally neat place...It may look like a hole in the wall from the outside, but dont let that deter you, inside its gorgeous! The show was interesting, and if you tell them its your birthday, you might get to go onstage, like I did. Food was also delicious. If you can, I recommend the entree package, cause you get to try a bunch of different things; coconut chicken was my favorite, and without the sampling, I never would have had it. Service was super friendly too, and quick. Definitely a place to check out again if you are looking for something new to do!
MoreWe went here on a Friday. The place should have been full with the kind of service and food theyre offering. The MC and the girls were great, and performance was an experience (havent seen one in my lifetime).I dont want to spoil the experience with this review. But I highly recommend this place. Will definitely go back.
MoreNice Polynesian floor show, cool decor with a tiki Polynesian twist, has a romantic air with nice tiki lighting, even has hula girl lamps. A very cool retro setting that is very fun! Food was just ok, hopefully this gets better to go with a nice look.
MoreI took a friend of mine to the Tiki Terrace for his birthday and we had a great time. The place was more intimate that I expected, which is nice. We got there early to enjoy some drinks and appetizers before our dinner. The decor is really fun and our waitress was very friendly and provided great service. We got Taro chips and udon soup before our entree, which we enjoyed. The Entrees are served family style and you get all 3, Coconut Chicken, Mahi Mahi and Pork, and we both liked all 3 of them. We also got dessert, and our waitress remembered to place a candle in my friends cake for his birthday. I got the Chinamans hat with strawberries and it was delicious. My buddy and I both enjoy Hawaiian music and we really enjoyed the show. It was a lot of fun and my friend did get a kick out of being called on stage for the birthday dance. The Tiki Terrace is a great little small business and would definitely like to go back. The prices are pretty good, and the drinks are pretty reasonable for a venue that provides a show. I had the Original Mai Tai and the Zombie. Its not a big Broadway production, its a fun place to go out and celebrate and I it was well worth the price and the drive to get there.
MoreSo much fun! Great place to celebrate a special occasion or just to do something different! I like the new family style service but the portions are VERY small! We asked for 2nds and got them without issue.Such a good time and definitely worth the drive from NW Indiana!
MoreAmazing food entertainment atmosphere. I loved the service its like they knew the menu by heart and taste. Price is super reasonable. Its only by reservations. Very family friendly. I would definitely go multiple times for special events. First time I tryed fish and actually loved it. Hilarious and informative show.
MoreGreat place to celebrate special occasions. We went on “hang loose Wednesday” and it was a lot of fun. The variety show was very nice and traditional dances were featured not only from Hawaii but Tahiti too. The meat items on our entrees were very good but side dishes and rice were very bland. All in all dinner and show was well worth the price. Unique and fun experience if you’ve never been there. Putting a reservation in ahead of time is key as it’s pretty busy or call before you drive over there if you plan on the spur of the moment.
MoreFOOD: The food was lip-smacking good ;-It was fresh and delicious. The sauces were light and full of flavor. There were variety of meat options (chicken, pork, beefincluded in the dinner & show package. There was a large selection of drinks. Bonus - the restaurant could make virgin version of many of the adult drinks. My kids loved the virgin margaritas.TIP: When you make a reservation for the dinner & show, for 8:30pm, come at least at 6:45pm. If you come too late then you get your dinner when the show starts and it is hard to eat and watch, especially for people who have their backs to the stage.PRICE: About $26 per adult & $15 per child on Fri & Sat for Dinner & Show. Drinks are extra. Wednesday dinner & show prices are $20/$15, respectively. There is a 24-hour cancellation policy, meaning there is a small charge if you don’t cancel your reservation within 24-hour.VALUE: Totally worth the price. You get a lot of freshly made and delicious food and a 2 hour of a show.SHOW: The show was fun & entertaining. We were transported to the Hawaii islands. The presenter was funny without being too cheesy. ;-He kept the atmosphere light and kept a good show pace. The dances were beautiful. I didn’t know you can do so many movements with your hands. The leading woman performing danced beautifully .When you made reservations, the restaurant ask you if you are celebrating anything and the names of the people who are. Well, guess what happens, during the show, the birthday/anniversary/etc. - Celebratory people are incorporated into the show…in a funny, light way, but you don’t have to if you don’t want to. ;-)BONUS - After the show you can take pictures with the dancers on the stageSERVICE: We had a great waitress, she easily connected with us without being fake. There was a bit of wait time for our food and she came to apologize and let us know how much longer we would have to wait.VENUE: From outside it looks very tiny, but once you enter the door you will see that the venue is very long and spacious. It is definitely hidden on the plaza.
MoreThis place was a new experience and we had a great time, food was good, dancing was great and the drink was delicious all and all for our first time we loved it!
MoreAmazing Hawaiian food served family styled. Every Wednesday, Friday, And Saturday they offer a great entertainment show included with your meal, that has dancers and a host whom really get the guest involved. I recommend this restaurant for Birthdays, Anniversaries, or even a Graduation dinner. Whatever, the celebratory night is, the experience you are left with, those memories, are ones for the taking. Paradise (reallyis a footstep away, so enjoy!✌🏻🖤💫
MoreThe decor of this place is cool. It looks like they put a lot of effort into making the place look Hawaiian. I wish they put more effort into making the food taste good. It is basically $26 per person and you get the dinner entrees which include shredded pork, fish, and baked/breaded chicken. All three were awful. The food was so bland and unflavorful. The pork was very sweet and had an unappetizing flavor. The fish was way too overcooked and was rubbery with zero flavor. The breaded chicken was very basic and nothing to brag about. The drinks were good though. The California style Poké was actually pretty good. It included tuna, mangos, avocados, and rice. There is a show that goes along with dinner. The three performers were good and played their roles well. It is entertaining and crowd interactive; they encourage audience participation. The service was somewhat slow, but our server was friendly. I honestly would not come back because of the quality of the food. Kids would enjoy this place. It is a unique restaurant in an area which doesnt have much that is unique. Restaurant is clean. Parking is ample.
MoreUnassuming strip mall storefront hides this charming Polynesian dinner show with excellent food offerings and fantastic entertainment which covers a variety of Pacific Islander dance styles. Drinks arent of a high calibur, but its forgivable. You will surely be entertained.
MoreThis place is so awesome! Food is tasty, show is so much fun, drinks are fantastic. Ill be telling all my friends!
MoreWhat an awesome place. We were there before it got busy and we got grated like kings! Great food, try the calamari. The bar tender knows how to mix a drink and have a joke while doing it. A seriously great place with an amazing atmosphere. You can ask for drinks not to be sweet and they will cater to your taste! Give tiki tarrace a try. You will not be disappointed!
MoreWonderful. I showed up on a whim with my friends little girl. We didnt have a reservation on what ended up being a show night. The hostess accommodated us with a seat in the back and apologized.. but the 8 year old thought it was the best seat in the house.. we saw the outfits before anyone else. The staff complimented her on her Hawaiian outfit and in the end she learned a hula on stage! It made for an amazing night. Love the calamari and the chips! Thank you to the staff for going out of their way to accommodate us!
MoreNice Hawaiian themed restaurant. We were there for the dinner and show. The show was very good. Host was pretty good and they interact with the crowd and bring people up on stage. The food is ok. It looks good but its ok. Our waitress was terrible. We saw her 3 times (maybe she was new). Be sure to make reservations in advance. The place fills up quick. Price wise, it can be expensive. A family of four with 4 drinks and an appetizer was $160.00 (not including tip).
MoreWe made reservations for a Wednesday night dinner and show. The food was very good and the entertainment was very good. They have audience participation too.We were seated right away and our service was awesome.
MoreShow was fantastic! Food was phenomenal! Portions just a little tiny but the taste was really good! Interactivity was awesome. I would love to go back!
MoreThe environment was very pleasant and the staff friendly. For a moment, you do feel like you are in a hidden Hawaiian getaway. The entertainment was very fun to watch. The food was tasty, but a little overpriced for what it was. Nonetheless, you go mainly for the experience so it was well worth it.
