Quiet back-street pub with a series of unusual weekend events from comedy to wine and food tastings.
The Telegraph at The Earl of Derby in Derby
Description
Dunno whats goin on there right now but Lee, Joe and family are beautiful people.
MoreA cracking proper pub with good old fashioned weirdness. Decent choice of beer and a nice outdoor terrace for Summers. We were there for the Thursday evening open mic night. Very well run with lots of quirky and interesting music with some top quality too. Excellent sound system.
MoreWide selection of beers, but no ciders worth a mention. Very happy to offer a taster.
MoreOne of the best pubs in terms of welcoming their guests, making a connection and knowing the people around you.The owners are amazing people, helpful and kindThe bar staff are fun and make efforts to know you. There is amazing live music, quality singer songwriters performance every Thursday. There are other fun activities like comedy etcDo visit this pub and you will come back again and again....!!!!!
MoreGreat pub in back streets of nunhead / new cross. Recent new owners have done us proud with a new menu. Can be quiet but great for families and can get happily lively with locals and studentsRecently, much more lively with the owners doing a grand job of daily events, including great open mic acts and charity comedy nights
MoreA little gem of a pub and much bigger than it looks from the outside. The telegraph was the venue of my nieces 18th birthday party. and the staff were very helpful, friendly and accommodating.
MoreGreat independent local. Live music, comedy, real ales. Lovely exterior. Real shame this pub isnt more famous!
MoreWent to The Telegraph the other day, the Management team were so lovely and welcoming and they have a great selection of Beaver Town 😁 We will be visiting again soon.
MoreLove this place! Owners are so friendly and welcoming, really charming people. Nice and spacious. Good selection of drinks.
MoreHad a fantastic birthday Sunday dinner
Love this local pub, always has a decent selection of beers and good value for money food. Dogs welcomed, which is great to see! They have a cracking pub quiz on Mondays at 8:30pm.
MoreA nice traditional pub is a slightly in between location between New Cross and Telegraph Hill.
MoreLovely staff. Nice chill atmosphere on a Sunday afternoon. Would definitely go back, but not for a roast because the food was not the one.
MoreVisited just after a mini beer festival, so great selection of cask beers, including Siren Breakfast Stout. Friendly staff and locals. And I must return to try one of the "average Sunday roasts" which Im told at actually AM-A-ZING (to quote Revel-horwood!). Will return, with others in tow!
MoreGood, slightly off the beaten track, New Cross pub. Effectively, two separate bars plus a smallish outside drinking area to the front. Two or three cask ales available. Friendly staff and has the feel of a real local pub.
MoreGreat place 👌🏽. Friendly stuff. Good food. And they have an ope mic every Thursday night. A little hidden lounge.
MoreRecently under new management, this is a welcoming, spacious pub with a good range of pub classic food and snacks.
MoreJolly, local pub under new management. Recommend the fritters! Heaters outside much appreciated on chilly evenings during COVID restrictions
MoreNice friendly pub with delicious sunday roast dinners, and interesting veggie/vegan options
MoreThis Five Star Pub Should Not Be The Best Kept Secret In Lewisham! This review sums up some visits made since 5th July 2019. It was on my first visit with a lovely friend Rima Bray that the lovely manager donated what turned out to be the best of eighty raffle prizes I collected in SE London a crowd funder for The Hill Station Community Café in nearby Kitto Rd, the prize was a meal for four, I will never forget your generosity for such an important cause.Although the management has changed the chef has not and so far both meals, fish and chips last year followed by Sunday Roast Pork on 23rd Feb 2020 were both so delicious they should be illegal. The roast just blasted my taste buds, the roasted beetroot was a master touch and those roast tatties my all time fave in 61 years. £14 and good value considering the exceptional quality and generous helping. There is always an excellent vegan option. This delightful pub appeals to me on so many levels, even with the fab old fashioned juke box you can actually hear yourself think and talk, this is ideal place to bring your friends for a shared meal or drinks and conversation. Perfect ambience with open fires in the winter, and a fab outdoor front garden terrace for the summer, coupled with lovely staff, customers and a great range of on tap beers at very reasonable prices, what more could you ask for? There are also three nights of activities including Monday Pub Quiz and Thursday Open Mic which from feedback is a wonderful evening. Most positive that there is a large noticeboard which shares events being held in the local community, and the offer of a FREE function room must surely have appeal for clubs and social groups? If you are reading about this fab pub for the first time, do visit, The Telegraph at The Earl of Derby should not remain the best kept secret in Lewisham!
MoreDog friendly , lively welcoming atmosphere , great selection drinks , fantastic food, fantastic food , great live music and just getting better , recommend a thousand times. Special like the Thursday night sing along music.
MoreLovely meal at the telegraph with friends, cauliflower curry was delicious probably the best I have had. Delicate flavours and nicely presented. My partner had battered cod really nicely done . Would highly recommend and will definitely go back.Friendly relaxed atmosphere.
MoreClassic proper local boozer, good bet choice and Good food as well.
Just had a fantastic roast dinner at the Telegraph. It was so popular it sold out by 3pm. Beautiful freshly cooked food.Tender meat and very tasty gravy. Great homemade Yorkshires. Plenty of choice The new management have really turned this place around. Looking forward to to many a Sunday lunch here with family and friends.
MoreThis place is far to expensive for the average person, they have no event discount nights e.g. 80s night or student night or mad Mondays (where there deals on food and drink until any of these happen the pub will fail to make money, the pub was recently taken over by new managers and its lost its homely vibe at the moment,
MoreA neighbourhood stalwart serving great beer and good food with panache. Piano and jukebox are nice touches, as are the two open fires. Super dog-friendly too!
MoreLovely pub tucked away in a residential street, but well worth the trip. Theres a fire, space for dogs and the open mic night sounded like great fun.Beer was decent with some good selections.
MoreLovely pub, plenty of space, good selection of beers. A great big map to occupy conversation!
MoreThe Monday night quiz is always great fun thanks to the hard work of Phil Nice. If youre not a regular you may miss a few of the jokes, but at the end of the day its only a fu...
MoreA Fantastic Pizza to remember... all washed down with a cold pint of litovel, the new menu is great.. will be back soon
MoreNice atmosphere, decent food and really friendly bar staff. Nice little pub.
Lovely local pub. Friendly staff, nice outside seating area and decent selection of beer
MorePub that has lots so many potential attractions in itself but tends always to fall short of the mark... 4 cask ales. Cloudy and vinegary lines not cleaned, whatever, off but still being served, so bad undrinkable really, massive disappointment
MoreNice quiet pub..good selection of beers . Nice outside area. Didnt have good but the new owners assure me its good will try it soon
MoreA very pleasant welcoming pub, interesting locals, good food and engaging staff. And an esoteric old school jukebox which complements the craft ale
MoreGreat neighbourhood pub, off the beaten track, but worth finding. Strong selection of real ales, and intriguing continental lagers, none of your high-street gubbins here. Sunday Lunch is excellent, nice big portions, may need to reserve a table! I tend to go for the pork belly, which is really tender, and the leeks and sage that go with it are great too. Beef always good too. Good staff and management too, they seem to really care about the place.
MoreA nice pub off the beaten track but seems to have gone a bit downhill recently. We had some pretty average pretty clearly fried from frozen food and some expensive costing, cheap tasting wine. Such a shame considering it’s a lovely space with very friendly staff.
MoreFood was just average. Very gentrified establishment which is a shame. Customers were a very uniform type. No atmosphere.
MoreNice quiet pub. Dog friendly and has a large awning you can sit under if you burn easily on a hot day.
MoreThis is a great pub. Interesting and original decor and good range of drinks. I dont think I could ask for more. Always a little surprised its not packed.
MoreI really want to love this pub, as its a beautiful space, but weve gone a few times and had some really rude service. Food was good though, and nice selection of beers.
MoreIf I could give this zero stars I would. Just had 2 roasts. The worst roasts weve ever eaten - I say eaten but we left 90% of them. Potatoes were raw. Veg was raw. Savoy cabbage was like trying to swallow tin foil. The cut of lamb was atrocious. Just gristly sinewy horrible chewy meat. Complained about the potatoes as they were the 1st obvious problem. They were white as snow and hard as anything. The guy asked if wed like more potatoes and then brought along 3 more potatoes (equalling 1 portion, not 2which were also raw. When he came to take our plates away, we were ignored despite having full plates. No one asked if everything was ok. We were blanked and the staff became sheepish and quiet. I went to the bar and asked for the bill - expecting some sort of acknowledgment about what had happened. Nothing. I went on to play "chicken" with the transaction wondering if at any point someone would say something. I ended up paying. I feel stupid for not refusing. We walked home angry and hungry. The most annoying thing about this experience is that this pub is beautiful. Spectacular. Wed been recommended it as "the best roast in the area" by friends. The staff seriously need to stand by their produce and be proud of what theyre serving. And if theyre not proud of it, they should do whatever they can to rectify and appease the customer. This is surely basic customer service 101 and theyre dropping the ball at the get-go and running off embarrassed and hiding away unable to even make eye contact. We wont be going back.
MoreUsed to love this place, they did amazing veggie roasts but seem to have changed recently. The portions are now huge but the quality seems to have dramatically reduced. Roast potatoes were hardly cooked, nut roast was dry and carrots soggy.Hope they revert to their old ways again soon, as it was great!
MoreA perfect pub in so many ways, nice vintage feel in a comfy neighborhood, with keen staff. Had a blast, enjoyed a few pints and and found the bartender helpful (Postal codes in LON?!?and pleasant ... cant wait to go back (and try the food!).- Ash / Miami Beach, FL ... " a sunny place for shady people."
MoreMy local, and its perfect. Good beer and ale selection, amazing Sunday roasts and a small well done daily and dessert menus. But dont tell too many people.. I dont want it too busy now..
MoreDelightful pub hidden away, very friendly efficient staff, great choice of beers and wines, superb food. Sunday roast belly of pork sublime.
MoreThe Telegraph at the Earl of Derby is my local, based as it is on Dennets Road, SE14, neatly between Telegraph Hill, Nunhead and Hatcham. The team here work hard to offer great events throughout the week from a Quiz (on Monday), Open Mic (Wednesday), Choir, amazing Sunday roasts, and a good selection of food throughout the week from a reassuringly compact menu. Staff are unfailingly warm and welcoming. Overall the place is clean, well presented, bright, welcoming, family friendly, with great food and a nice spread of events to appeal to everyone.
MoreHad a lovely meal here just after Christmas. Gorgeous home cooked food-v tasty and large portions too! Would recommend the Sunday roast! Nice, friendly atmosphere and the managers are lovely: my son was a little unsettled and the staff went out of their way to help to cheer him up. Easy to park, would definitely return and recommend this pub for both drinks and food.
MoreAs a Hungarian it was my first pub-experience in London and I was impressed. I will always remember the kind stuff and also the frequenters - it is a very good family pub as one of them described to me.
MoreJohn and Leila are such a lovely customer friendly couple. The food is always great with a modern twist. I dont know about beer, but they seem to have a good selection. More importantly the house wine is fabulous and reasonably priced. Its a lovely pub in a quiet back street. I particularly like it because it has a very diverse clientèle from bright young things to those, like me, neither bright nor young but looking for a comfortable place to spend a quiet evening with friends.
