Traditional tavern featuring Texas-style comfort food & craft beers on tap, plus patio seating.
Not my first stop here but got the chance to enjoy a really great dinner this time. Very specific menu, which I appreciated, great beer and wine lists, as well as creative cocktail options. The steak was done perfectly and the service, despite a busy Friday evening, was phenomenal. Would definitely recommend!
Everyone was so nice! Food came out so quick and was absolutely incredible! We 100% recommend the mozzarella sticks, they are to die for. The marinara and ranch are obviously made from scratch and are incredible. My husband and I both got the steak and they were amazing. My filet cut like butter. And the drinks were perfect! We will definitely be coming back!
Excellent food and outstanding service, I would 100% recommend this place if you are looking for a fine dining experience. The food is a bit on the expensive side but it is worth it if you are looking for a date night, or looking for a place to drink a cold beer. They have a wide and fine collection of craft beers, wine, liquor, and even mead.
This was absolutely one of the best dining experiences since Ive been in Abilene.
Awesome place great food and beer selection!Only negative is hours of operation I truly wish they were open for lunch I’d take my employees verry regularly if they would open up maby closer too 10-12 so we could enjoy lunch there.
We regularly visit tap house , usually after we are getting off of work or enjoying a Saturday. Very rarely are we made to feel comfortable regardless of how much we spend, how nice we are , or how often we visit. Im guessing depending on who you know , it will depend on how well you are treated.!Visiting this past Saturday, on 9/16/22 we sat 10-15 minutes before receiving a greeting besides the hostess. At least 2 waiters passed our table several times during this wait.I then politely asked the hostess about our waiter.. We we’re finally greeted with a smile.. Pushing forward we ordered 2 rounds of oysters, quail & grits , a dinner ceasar salad add shrimp , a burger w/fries , dble crown apple x2Long Island and what not .We tipped our waiter well after asking for our tickets to be split in 2. I noticed that it was not evenly split and we were Over charged. My point is this ; No smiles , made us feel uncomfortable every visit ( as if we do not belong. This was because the servers do not smile , are not courteous unless you are of pale skin. I am of a very olive color and never have felt or received a warm welcome ( although we are cheerful & welcoming. It was a waist of time and money ! I would like to think that the owner is more than aware of this , because being a business owner you are aware of how your workplace environment is.Food is amazing but not worth it in the end.
One of the best rib eye steaks in Abilene, Texas. Cooked to perfection and served with mashed potatoes and garlic green beans. The service was great and the atmosphere perfect. Can’t say enough about how good the experience was.
Booked a table for 16 for a birthday party. The staff was very helpful and wonderful. Food was amazing, you need to try the chicken fried bacon.
Beer cheese soup was nasty, the foot long Philly was disgusting, and they don’t know what goat cheese is, they gave me Swiss. And they said ‘no, it is goat cheese’, but I will say, their French fries were the only thing I got to eat tonight and they were on point. Worst meal in Abilene.
My daughter and I went here on my birthday. Our server was amazing (Rihanna… above and beyond! We ordered their specialty drinks, which were great. I had a blueberry infused vodka drink & my daughter had a gin drink with strawberry, and basil - we both loved them. By far, we split the best chicken fried steak we’ve ever had! Oh, and try the beer cheese soup! Yummy.
Very nice place inside. I was in town after a 40 year absence, and my friend took me to this place. I was so looking forward to chicken fried steak, and this place did not disappoint. It was delicious, with tender meat, just right breading, and perfectly thick gravy. Just awesome. The green beans they served with the meal were also seasoned just right. Plenty of other reasonably priced menu items, and large selection of beer. If and when I ever return to Abilene, this will be one of my first stops.
Had a great lunch today. We got a Cesar salad and a dozen wings. Paired with some cold drinks, it was a nice way to stay out of the heat. As always, service was outstanding! One of our favorite places to grab a meal and get away for a bit.
My wife and I decided to eat here on our anniversary. The wait staff seemed to stand near kiosk and gossip as people were waiting for their food in an unacceptable long time. We unfortunately set near the kiosk and most of the staff that were gossiping. We felt bad for the other tables that had to wait even longer then us. Thank God we ordered side salads otherwise I think we would have left. The steak was incredible. I give the food a 5 star rating but here is what was totally unacceptable. The waiter took our debit card with our bill to the nearby kiosk then started talking with another male waiter then walked past the bar and into the back room. This is totally unacceptable as it allows the wait staff to be able to compromise someone’s account. When I talked to the waiter about it then a female waiter came over and said we have a kiosk in the kitchen. I told them if my account gets hacked as a retired Law Enforcement officer we are going to have issues! From now on only using cash as it’s sad you can’t trust a business that allows the wait staff not to check out the customers when given their cards!
The seating was odd, instead of inside with baseball on the tv and music, we were seated outside (in 100 degree weatherwith huge fans blowing on us with no music, tv, or other people. I ordered a Philly sandwich, I was thinking steak and peppers, instead they brought out cheese and bread, absolutely not anything worth eating. I sent it back , requested a spinach salad instead and was charged for both. Don’t think we’ll be coming back here.
Weve always enjoyed our visits here, but this time was so incredible! Aaron, our server was an absolute gem. He was so friendly and very attentive. We had a birthday in the party and he made her night! The food like always is so delicious. Our steaks and chicken were cooked to perfection! Our cocktails were delicious and were refilled as quickly as we needed them to be. Keep doing what youre dont TCT! We appreciate yall! ❤️
Came for breakfast and it was just horrible. Order breakfast and Brioche with potatoes and it was literally a BURGER!I most definitely did not want a burger for breakfast! It also was so dry and the potatoes were just not good! I asked for a regular breakfast bowl and got that instead. Well come check time they still charged me for the horrible breakfast that I did not eat! If they were going to charge me they could of left the plate for us to take home. Someone in my house would of ate it. Im most definitely not ever returning here for breakfast or Dinner.
Were from Dallas and we met a good friend of ours who lives in Abilene who highly suggested this place. And it was a home run. We had deviled eggs over a spicy remoulade topped with fried crawfish with jalapeño slices, ahi tuna crusted with bicolor seasame seeds and seared rare sliced on the bias served over a bed of Thai-vinaigrette-tossed lo mein noodles, dressed with edamame, avocado, watermelon radishes, and Spring onions, along with bacon wrapped quail, perfectly seasoned Brussels sprouts, along with copious amounts of local brew. By far above and beyond typical run-of-the-mill bar food, being that it is chef owned and operated. Speaking of which, the chef came over and spoke with us for a few minutes as well. Super sharp and with great people skills "topped off" ~ no pun intended ~ with his culinary talent. There will most definitely be a sequel here when were back in the area. ...
First time to dine. I had the Cajun shrimp and grits. It was amazingly delicious. Large Shrimp, ham chunks & sliced jalapenos in a Cajun sauce poured over a mound of grits.
In Love with this place! Incredibly massive beer menu. We only ate off the appetizer menu this time. (making room for the beer! LolThe sausge plate was phenomenal. Definitely on my "Go To" list!
Food is expensive just a heads up. The beer selection and service was exceptional but the food was not it. The sauces are house made and all taste of excessive vinegar. Pulled pork sandwich is literally ketchup on ground up unseasoned pork. Also hostess took far to long to seat us.
We literally waited for over 15 minutes after getting sat down with no one even asking if we would like drinks. We understand that it was busy but not checking on people waiting for that long is just rude and unprofessional. We let the hostess know as we were walking out and she seemed to not care at all.
The food was exactly as ordered, and tasted alright. Appetizers were timely and wonderful. A little disappointed though. Took well over an hour for our entrees to arrive and there were only 6 or 7 tables filled, and the beer was barely cool. For a hundred dollar ticket I expected a bit more, but its Easter, and I dont feel like being negative.
Amazingly delicious food, every visit! Cocktails and beer selection is unmatched anywhere locally. I would eat their bacon wrapped quail and/or Wicked Chicken dish everyday if I could!!
Taylor County Taphouse is a locally owned restaurant. We went at an off time and it was not very busy. We ordered drinks first and they were great! Very strong but great. The Ace Pear Cider was exceptionally good. Dry, fruity and delicious. The cinnamon orange Margarita was a strange combination but very good. The Tequila Mockingbird was good. Strawberry and Tequila was pretty good. Strawberry infused tequila gave a nice finish. Our last drink was The Gambler and it was the clear favorite. Forty Creek Whiskey and Grand Marnier with toasted orange. Sooo very great citrusy and boozy. The Satan’s Huevos were excellent. Deviled eggs topped with fried crawfish and a remoulade drizzle. Very tasty and would order again. The Low Country Shrimp and Grits wasn’t very good. It had way too many onions and scallions in the grits. I love silky smooth grits and these were not at all. The second dish we had was the Bat Out Of Hell Meatloaf. Best dish hands down! Two slices of meatloaf laying upon a bed of skin on mashed potatoes. We added broccolini to the side and while salty it paired well with the meat and potatoes. Lastly was the pulled pork sandwich. Smoky juicy goodness served with steak fries. The coleslaw which was more of an afterthought. Oily and strange. We then finished with 7 Layer Chocolate Cake and boy oh boy this was truly decadent without being too sweet or heavy. Next level great. The Bread Pudding was just okay nothing special. The staff was very good. No hovering but came around as needed. The atmosphere was comfortable and relaxed. Definitely comes recommended. We will be back.
I came with a large group. I am giving. Them 5 stars based on hey the made it. Bloody marys were delicious. I tried the Philly Cheese steak and enjoyed those we all snacked. It was standard as most places are. But they had Weller 12 and special 107 if youre a wheated bourbon fan.
Been here plenty of times and just realized I hadnt yet reviewed. Three stars for quality of food and atmosphere. No wild loud music and the food is pretty consistently good.Lost two stars because service has almost always been so so. Sometimes even bad. I had an instance where a bar tender copped a real bad attitude when I couldnt recall what drink Id gotten last time I was there. Basically acted like a snarky little teenager. It was completely uncalled for. He was left a nice message on the receipt and a penny :Ive also had cases where the food takes a very long time to come out or its difficult to get the waitress to come back to the table. Not sure whats going on with management, but there is a breakdown somewhere. I encourage them to check out the management model employed at the beehive down town because they are perfection. Always.
Nice casual place for a variety of brews and good food. My steak Diane was cooked perfectly! The only thing lacking was customer service/atmosphere could have been better. I overheard gossiping between servers and one girl kept bumping into multiple guests which was distracting. She actually almost bumped into me while I was leaving too. My particular server was friendly though.
Drinks amazing but good is terrible! Chips soggy and waitstaff never came back to check on us got our order brought it and that was hit. No one that works there has a smile on their face either. Again margaritas good
Bloody Mary for brunch at TAPHOUSE! Really yummy. Whoever is making these bloody Mary’s now, well done bartender!
We went there Saturday. It was busy, but we had a beer at the bar. The beer selection is great. We got our tables faster than we were told. Our waiter, Kayla R. was friendly and did an excellent job. The food was really good, too. This is our new favorite place!
The chicken fried steak was cooked to perfection and delicious. The green beans and Mashed potatoes were sooooo good! I also had the Mac n cheese and keylime pie. The Mac nCheese was far different from other places but really good. I absolutely LOVE the key lime pie.I 100 percent recommend this place!!!
I’m on the fence on the rating and I wish there were 1/2’s because I really want to give this place a 3.5. The ambiance when you go in is a vibe. It’s rustic, has an upscale feel, and yields bold detailing. The selection of beers, whiskey, and bourbons are high end and plentiful. The mixed drinks leave a little to be desired but I personally have a high tolerance so it could work for others no problem. The TEXAS FRIES were absolutely delicious and loaded just right. The WINGS OF WONDER had two different textures. One was regular and the other was a double crunch that was super crispy but it did lack a little flavor which is the reason for the rating. The presentation was great and overall I enjoyed the experience. Just wish those wings came a little bit harder.Fun fact: The waitress told me that the owner owns a farm and that’s where the product comes from and he works both. It was nice to know that it’s a farm to table type establishment and I plan on going back and trying more of things.
My wife and I loved this place. Tonight, I ordered a drink. It was delicious. So delicious I ordered a second. It tasted very different. The first was a top shelf whiskey Sweet Wheat (old fashioned). The second that came out was supposed to be the same but was very bitter. Clearly, a different brand was used to make the second. I inform the waitresses (who was very friendly). She apologized and comes back shortly with a “new drink.” This one was more full. Well, it tasted less bitter but was a much different consistency than the others. It was watered down....Idk why but was I discriminated against? Did I look like I couldn’t afford it? I’m not certain but I never want to feel that feeling again. We asked for the check and left immediately…GREAT FOOD THOUGH! I think anyone would love their food.. :/
Nice place with a very nice beer selection. I enjoyed the cheese soup, it was very flavorful but not so cheesy. Our waitress might have been new, as she really didnt know the menu. That said, the food and experience was very good.
Highly enjoyable food. The bar waiter was super friendly
Great service and food. I enjoyed!!!
Traveling and found this gem. Menu to serve a variety of palates! Excellent selection of craft beers, nice cocktail options. We had the Satan Huevos (good)Irish Nachos with Philly Cheesesteak (EXCELLENT), Chicken Fried Steak (not favorite)Staff was attentive and friendly.Highly recommend this place!!!!
I woke up disappointed that my vote didn’t have breakfast. But I was so happy when I found this place. You probably won’t get as lucky as me and my wife. Our 1 hour wait turned into 10 minutes by a stroke of luck so make your reservation before hand. We had the Sunday only brunch and it was the best breakfast I’ve ever had the hangover and the milk stouts Definitely helped out. The staff was amazing at the bar make a reservation soon
Went today with my son at 3:00 pm. They were not busy, but we did not have great service. The queso was delicious. My son had the chicken fried steak, he said it was mediocre, but the fresh green beans were amazing! I had the pulled pork sandwich with “coleslaw.” It was less than desirable. The sauce tasted like it was from a bottle and the coleslaw was about two tablespoons of red cabbage with almost no flavor. My cranberry margarita was fantastic, as was the fresh lemonade.
Really good restaurant in southwest Abilene. Nice, varied beer menu, with reasonable priced cocktails. The patio has plenty of room. Im also not a big fry person, but I easily ate half of my beer battered fries, without trying. The jalapeño ranch was a nice touch. My friend enjoyed the beer cheese soup in that you can actually taste the beer.
We came through town for a hunting trip and needed a break from national chain restaurants. Glad we found this spot in Abilene to get some good food with even better service! Get the Sausage Board for an appetizer
Love this place...food and service is spot on!!!
This is my favorite restaurant in Abilene. Delicious food, fabulous drinks, friendly waitstaff, and fair prices. The menu is pretty varied, so it’s not just another barbecue place.
I enjoyed the out door patio. I made a mistake on my drink list. They corrected with ease. The pickle beer given to me as a sample. The 4 horsemen drink was given to me at a reasonable price. The bar tender mixed my drinks with enough liquor and juice to not make the drinks unbearable. The food was cooked to my liking.
Great food and atmosphere very up to date. Cocktails are amazing I recommend the key lime pie Martini!
Food and beer selection is awesome! Service is top tier. Will recommend for any of my DYESS friends
We only stopped in for drinks which is what this rating is based on, not food. The place is clean, friendly staff, and clean beer taps. I recommend trying out this establishment.
We got seated right away, nice atmosphere, our food tasted good, but double check the prices and look over your receipt. Our food was warm but not hot. They dont have any of their own beers, but several tap beers on tap. I heard a couple older couples say that they didnt care for their taste in music, but atleast it wasnt to loud. The staff was friendly.
Great service from our waiter, Cody. He was very informative and right on time with everything. The food was as good as the reviews online said it would be and the beer was worth stopping in the next time we drive through. The warm, relaxing atmosphere was just what we needed. We will be back!
The hands down best beer selection in Abilene bar none. We love the burgers and the cob salad, it’s lively atmosphere and that it is just an all around great place to hang out.
