Ok let’s start with the service, the waitress was so professional in every way, very respectful and knowledgeable only seems to be young but it’s like she’s been to waitress training because this is how you waitressThe food, I had the caprese salad and then the meatballs (both are on the starters menu), they were so fresh and just divine, my Dad had the Italian sausage pasta and it was just as fresh and a perfect sizeI highly recommend anyone to try this amazing restaurant

Good, well cooked meals at reasonable prices. Service was attentive and atmosphere good with the restaurant more than half full. Arrived about 7:45 and waiter/owner a bit worried as although open til 9 chef was finishing at 8. Fortunately we ordered promptly and all was good .

We had a very nice dinner. The service was excellent. We had to wait a bit longer for our main we were told with an apology. We then were given an starter on the house. The food was excellent from the starter to the tiramisu as dessert.I was pleased we booked the day before as the restaurant was fully booked.

Whilst disappointed at not getting into the other Italian restaurant, the disappointment didnt last long as we were able to dine here at the Surfers Mistress. Awesome food, matched by the service. And it wouldnt be Italian without finishing with Tiramisu as the dessert. Absolutely yummo.

Felt so disappointed, the reviews and photos of the food were certainly not what we got. Pizza was very average and the Tiramisu no flavour no tia Maria or coffee. The whole experience was quite strange..there was a strange unkept man hoovering at our table to the point it made us very uncomfortable and felt like 3 of us at the table. Still disappointed next day

Very nice, italian atmosphere was incredible. Pizza to die for, great cocktails, prices that definetly make it a special outing.. steak was a little dry and chewy but everything else was incredibly good. Definetly try this place out.

Nice outdoor setting which we was able to accommodate our dog. Sunny and sheltered for the early evening.Prawn pasta maybe too much garlic for our liking , Italian sausage pasta was good nice touch of chilli flakes.IPA beer was great , Pinot wine not so. Good place to try and make your own mind up, we would go again.

We’ve been here quite a few times now and have always had a really enjoyable meal, great service and seriously one of the best Tiramisu’s. I really appreciate how the music is quiet and tasteful so people don’t have to raise their voices and despite being the last ones there tonight didn’t feel rushed to finish our meal. Seriously thanks so much team for making especially tonight a great experience.

Its easy to miss this place from the road. The name is written in big letters on one side of the building but the frontage is dark and unassuming. Once you go down some stairs however, its a warm, light and inviting place.Three of us arrived and were efficiently scanned and shown to our table. The menu ranges from small delicious anti pasto through pizza, pasta and desserts. Honestly, I was torn because I would have been happy with anything on their menu. The service was attentive without being intrusive and we all agreed that the food was fabulous. This is about quality not quantity so dont expect a bucket of spag bol. And for any coeliacs, most things can be made gluten free, wow.I highly recommend The Surfers Mistress and cant wait to go back.

My favourite Italian restaurant on the Kapiti coast. Owners Stefano and Jason are always pleasant. Their old-school hospitality shines - striking that perfect balance between engagement, service, and letting you enjoy your company & food. This philosophy been instilled in their young but enthusiastic wait staff. Serve times can get stretched when theyre very busy, but its not excessive. Youll likely be having a lovely time anyway and believe me, its worth the wait if there happens to be one.Stefano is Italian, so you can rest assured the food has been vetted by authentically knowing eyes and taste buds. The food is impeccable. If you wanted to, you could treat yourself to a traditional full-course meal - from antipasto to primo e secondo with contorno to match, and finish off with some dolce (which is typically "sweet as bro"). There is a solid array in every category and from experience, theyre all amazing. There specials are typically interesting- last night my friend Janina had a pan fried tarakihi in a cream sauce that was to die for. So you can either torture yourself with making the trying to make the right selections, or bring some friends and go nuts. Youll be stuffed, but very satisfied.Just note on the aperitivo and digestivo - all the classics are they as youd expect. I am a firm fan of the negroni though - made by skilled hands by someone who know exactly what theyre doing.Gorgeous food and fantastic service are one thing. Ambience is always a second tier consideration for me, but I will comment in this case. The aesthetic is so eclectic - the massive monochrome photo-mural on the wall of golden-age women eating pasta on Lake Como, the glittery disco ball in the front foyer, the tiny Lego landmark miniature, the muted but classy dining furniture - many of the elements would seem to clash on paper, but someone with a flair and feel for design has curated them is such an artful way, it all just seems to work together perfectly. Add all this to a kitschy soundtrack rotating between traditional Italian and loungy bossa nova, the atmosphere is warm and intimate - perfect for an evening with friends. There are a handful of dining gems in Paraparaumu, The Surfers MIstress being a shining example. Lets hope the trend continues!

Its one of the best restaurants of its kind in Kapiti. if you want to have pizza or pasta or anything like that, this is my recommendation. The desserts are really good too, they have tiramisu, and pretty good sundaes. They have quite a range of things on the menu too. The food is cooked fast and they have a good range of seating.

Awful experience, no plans to go back..very good other places in area. I never leave reviews, but try to talk to the manager, owner if possible.Reserved a table saying special occasion. Friend flew in from Akl, chose this restaurant over all others to celebrate her birthday. Ordered prawn meal, was shrimp - big difference, of course, was advised prawns shrink a lot when cooked! LOL They came on pasta, no spoon & was unremarkable. Tried 4 times to wave down anyone, long wait, got a soup spoon finally. Watched as every other table ( not fullgot multiple visits & service by a server...was like we were invisible - forget special occassion! No dessert order, no coffee, no limencello order offered as we had planned. Finally when place was almost empty; waved down waiter & said very disappointed & why...he went away. Nothing, waited... Asked to speak to the (Italianowner. He came over, defiant, rude, defensive & he said "What do you want me to do!?" 3 times he said - a lot of people want to be left alone. Wow.. So, I asked to speak to the other owner & he said he was the only owner. We were very unhappy, upset by now. When I tried to put $100 on one of my cards( only owed $103this owner refused twice to take the payment. The waiter had to say he cant refuse...by this time I was embarrassed to have brought my friend to this place at all & left before I really lost my composure! She paid - we were overcharged $31 ! Other guests wine, beer, juice, etc was put on our bill! Came in the next day for refund/receipt. I was asked if we had had rose wine, I said "no, I know exactly what we had..I can tell you" He then turned right to the waiter & asked if wed had rose... so insulting, really. I said you can check your camera...(unreal to be insulted all over againThen he asked "Did you have beer?" I laughed & said, I know what we had exactly. He said did you have juice? No.No apology ever offered by the Italian, "sole" owner & I told him he had really upset me. ( us). Nothing. I was questioned why we hadnt said anything about being overcharged...not our fault. Not offered GST breakdown or even a verbal confirmation (as is usual of what we had anyway that night. I was given $31 cash back for overcharge amount. My job used to be training staff in customer service for the hospitality industry in NZ. Fortunately, the majority of other places understand how to take good care of their customers & know this experience was rather unacceptable. Our mistake was choosing to celebrate at this restaurant, expecting food & service as it was when first opened.Meanwhile have heard many negative remarks by several others, all said they think all has declined..

Absolutely delicious and interesting flavours, with 5-star service! My husband and I were wished Happy Valentines day, staff member went outside with us to take a photo of us when saw we were struggling with a selfie, the chef thoughtfully gave us our main in two plates as he saw we were sharing. The ambiance was beautiful too. Highly recommend!

I found this to be a very relaxing night out.Staff are friendly, knowledgeable, attentive and make you feel welcome.Condensed but comprehensive menu with excellent choices catering for all tastes. The choices are excellent value for money.Well set out, making for a relaxing meal without intrusion from other diners. They dont remove plates until everyone has finished eating - hooray for etiquette. We dined in winter. There is an outside garden and we look forward to using that when the temperatures start to rise.Highly recommended, cant wait to return.

A casual wedding anniversary meal trying out a new eatery and we so wanted to have a relaxed evening. I’ve never reviewed with negatives but we unfortunately were disappointed. No complaints with the food as such but we didn’t come away enthused. The service was inexperienced and although we would usually be pleased by promptness of courses, it was a little passed that. As our three courses were literally thrown in front of us one after the other, even when told we’d not finished entree, finishing up in under an hour which included an antipasto platter. Even when we asked for a break before dessert. We then noticed other tables being offered specials not on menu, oils and Parmesan on meals, none of which we received but would have been keen to have. It is a lovely setup and has great potential but we are sorry to say we won’t be returning soon.

Wow it was great better service than we got last week at Logan Brown. The guys are fab and the food was authentic and delicious.Excellent meal thoroughly enjoyed every mouthful. Authentic Italian food. Far better atmosphere than the competition. I had the antipasto platter which was plenty for four and really tasty. Salmon and spinach fettuccine was fab and our guests had a steak and the NY meatballs. Definitely worth a return trip.

I went for lunch on Sunday with a friend and our three children. I knew it was new, but I was surprised at how comfortable it felt. Very stylish. We ordered a variety and decided to share. Oh, and I had a very cool Spritzer to drink. Gorgeous! The service was personable and knowledgeable, and the food came out quickly and was absolutely delicious. Im really looking forward to going for a romantic dinner. Highly recommended.

I appreciate that this place is new. Service was adequate. We had to ask for pepper etc which were automatically brought to others, then my partner was missed and we had to ask another waiter back. At that point, after we had started eating we found that Parmesan cheese and chilli oil were available. My Italian sausage pasta was fresh and nice, but my partner’s was very bland and she was disappointed. I tried some and agreed hard to even taste the tomato sauce. Also I was looking forward to the special advertised-on the website, but it wasn’t on.Counter staff were great, took our feedback well, and offered recompense. Very impressive.Prices were excellent, menu a bit limited, although food fresh. Ambience was missing as decor quite plain. It may have gem an attempt at being minimalist.I hope things come together for this place.
