Victorian pub with wooden benches, a snug, whitewashed beer garden and a British comfort food menu.
lovely pub! food was fantastic and service was great. Definitely recommend the pork belly and mash. Thanks!
The best fish and chips ever!! Our server Shannon was so nice! We were visiting from the US and stumbled across this cute place and I’m so glad we did. Amazing service and amazing food!!!
Amazing pub in the heart of Notting hill. Beautiful atmosphere with lovely staff, very warm welcoming from a waiter I believe is called Shannon. Will be back soon.
Randomly bumped into this pub and very happy we stayed. Beautiful plant-based burger and variety of beers. Incredible interior design and nice waiters. Absolutely recommend!
We wanted to come here on a early Sunday evening for a roast dinner meal! After having a long day of traveling and walking finally meeting up with our American cousin! We walked in to find a waiter who came across very rude no hello or how are you it was straight up I want your ID now! So like normal we handed it over thinking why do we need it to enter? He checked mine and my boyfriend for a good 5 mins although we are both over 18 and checked my cousins who is 20 and said nope u can’t come in we simply asked why to him responding we can’t take American ID why is that then? It’s a normal ID and she also mentioned how you let her in multiple times! He simply turned us away very disappointed won’t be returning and you have now lost paying customers! Sort your staff out
Really liked the secret garden, however, I thought the roast pork belly could have been seasoned a little better, it was small and there was no crispy skin.
Nice and quiet place, friendly helpful and polite staff, we ordered a fish & chips and a rosemary garlic cheese: really good, I recommend them.
great food, great drink, very clean and super friendly staff! couldn’t recommend a better place in notting hill!
This pub has such a wonderful atmosphere. The staff were very welcoming and always smiling. Great selection of drinks to choose along with delicious food. Will definitely recommend this place to friends and family.
Me and my husband came in for lunch, the food was amazing but I was stunned by how charming our server Isabel was! She was so beautiful, I could not concentrate on my green beans! I had an amazing experience and I highly suggest meeting Isabel!
Nice place, secret garden with hot lights, nice atmosphere, brilliant nachos, at the only thing is that u have to leave the secret garden at 9,over all nice place to have a beer, i recommend
A Very Friendly & Popular Pub in Notting Hill Gate very near to Portobello Road. There is also an area outside at the back, if the weather is good.
We have enjoyed the wonderful food and atmosphere of this joyous pub a number of times. If we want to meet our family and friends in London The Sun in Splendour is always our top choice!!!Staff are friendly and accommodating and the food is just great!!!Brilliant location to enjoy the wonders of portobello road before or after your visit!Don’t hesitate to make this one of your favourites too.. it won’t disappoint😋
I love this place. Recently had a family birthday lunch here and it was amazing. Food arrived really quickly and was delicious. The service was really friendly. Wish I lived nearer because it would become my local!
The day certainly brightens-up when you see this pub! Definitely a lot quieter than it would have been over the late-August Bank Holiday weekend, when the Notting Hill Carnival was raging outside!Very attractive pub, both inside and outside, but absolutely no real ales available on the afternoon of my visit. Friendly staff, but my preference would be for more ale options.
are you in a hurry? Then, unhurriedly linger over a draft beer. Enjoy the crowds of tourists with a view from the large panoramic window. Recognize the Germans by their Deuter shoes. Wonder how quickly your beer is empty. Enjoy the moment. Then leave the pub. Have lots of fun doing it! A pint of Peroni is drunk quickly.
We popped in yesterday to enjoy a some drinks after dinner elsewhere. We ordered 2 glasses of wine and 1 beer at the bar, and were shown to a table. All was going well up until then! When asked where the ladies toilets were, one of the members of staff was extremely rude to us, speaking to us in a condescending way for no reason at all. Honestly none of us could believe it - we were pretty taken aback and didnt know what to say! We decided not to stay for another round as we just didnt feel comfortable anymore. As we got up to leave, I noticed the member of staff who had been unkind to us standing around, so I told her (politely!that there was just no reason to speak to us in this was and that it was so rude and for nothing. She stared back at me blankly, no apology or explanation, and didnt seem to care. Very unfortunate as the food looked great, but we wont be back because of this person.
We hosted a wedding weekend welcome event here and it went off without a hitch. Our guests had a fantastic time and so did we. Kay was also a great wingwoman during the evening - getting the bride refills on drinks, acting as bouncer, and more. We had such a phenomenal time.
Lovely staff. At this end of Notting Hill you have to book if you want a table for more than 30 mins on the evening but they squeezed us in for a swift drink. Just one thing, the small outdoor area is way too small and enclosed to let people smoke in. It became illegal fifteen years ago. Long enough for people to get the message anyway.
Really great staff and service - we had a leaving do here with 15+ people, and the staff remained friendly and quick even when the pub got busy later into the evening! A lovely spot, worth the money for a special occasion!
Really nice pub with a great selection of wine, beer & ginLovely friendly bar staff too….
Visited on a hot Thursday in late July 2022. More of a restaurant than a pub. You are greeted and informed if there is a table available. Thankfully there was and we enjoyed a decent pint of bitter in a pleasant enough outside yard. Seemingly the "way forward" in this part of London.
Great food, very nice people and beautiful place
Lovely place with amazing secret garden. Really friendly staff and tasty food. Not too far from station. If you had a plan check Portobello Market drop there too! Highly recommend!
Very cosy place. Staff is very friendly and helpfull. Wide range of drinks. Will be coming back for sure.
Great food and service! Highly recommend
Good beer and great music. Fantastic atmosphere. Definiteley worth a visit if you stop by.
My husband and I wanted to sit in this pub for a drink and then we could also eat something. We were asked if we wanted inside or the garden we agreed to the second one where in fact there was no room so we went back inside and were directed to sit at tables for two which were lined up so close you could be sitting on the lap of the one next to you. So I wonder in relation to such a division if the prices in the menu are also different (cheaperbecause if there are two of you it is not allowed to sit in the better part of this pub. Because Im the one who is paying and I think I have right to choose my place, right? That was the image and treatment we received. I have nothing to comment about the food, I didnt try it and I dont regret it because I felt so discriminated. Shame on you.
Stopped by for a quick snack + beers. The calamari is fabulous! 😍
Food was nice 👌 and ambience was good. We as a team went there for our Christmas party and ordered lots of food, most of the food items were delicious. We had a great time there. Service was a bit slow because it was overcrowded by us only. I should recommend this food place to be visited.
Booked well in advance and was rewarded with the best seat in the house. The seating was only surpassed by the Sunday roast and the great and friendly service of the staff. Hands down the best pub lunch I’ve had in London and the best traditional English roast I’ve ever had. Thanks very much!
Lively bar with a little outdoor space. Food good and reasonably priced. Toilets clean although miniature. Pints were pricey even by Londons standards. Will return again.
Very good dinner here tonightWe took the vegetable dishes : very tasty and well cooked !Gentle staffI recommend this restaurant
Great atmosphere, good pub food & nice friendly attentive staff led by a very professional yet friendship manager
Food was good, ale was good, music was incredible- mainly British 60s and 70s hits; we walked in to the Beatles... Our barman, Jamie, was excellent! The whole family enjoyed the short stay.
We were truly offended by the way we were treated. I don’t know what went wrong with the team / owner, but my partner and his friends were attacked by them for no reason. This place is absolutely horrendous and if you stand for values, respect and good people, I urge you to pass by this place.—Replying to you, Mr De Silva here, as I do not want to skew the ratings by adding another review). This will be my final message.I stand on what I said, my husband and partners were attacked. With 100% no valid reason. If you had come and asked for them to be less loud or checked with the ladies whether they were annoying them, I would have 100% understood. They were waving flags and having fun with people, during the Jubilee weekend at 8pm, like any brits or people living in britain...I have raised the tone with you when you said my husband harrassed these ladies despite them saying they were having fun together. I was next to them so clearly I can confirm it was friendly banter during a reuniting event. But you insulted us, not the other way around and you chose the tough, wrong approach instead of a kind interaction. In my 5 years in london, I have only had positive encounters with people (in the many pubs i’ve been to with my husband and his friend tooso i am sure we will find countless places that apply the policy of appropriate behavior both ways.Best wishesMelanie
First time that I went there I just ordered a negroni ….that it wasn’t with the right proportion when I asked why it was like that the barista said that that’s how they do them even though It should be 75ml and not 50ml. But I paid for the full price.Bad experience with negroni its the only cocktail that I like … shame
This is a very popular pub in Notting Hill. It looks beautiful from the outside but it was extremely difficult to get one of the few places outside. We only stopped for a drink but it was a very nice atmosphere and the food that the others had also looked very good. Can definitely recommend stopping there while exploring the beautiful neighborhood.
Hidden gem in the nothing hill area. Delicious food. Beautiful decoration; and great food and service. A must stop if you are visiting London.
This pub was a spontaneous choice for two reasons: the "secret" court and fish and chips. Both of them were good choices! Even the service was a little slow, the food was great, and the beer excellent! Not crowded, was a peaceful and relaxing place to have dinner. Recommended!
Such a cute place. I went to celebrate my friends birthday. I came late to my booking and the chap still found us a space. I would totally come again. The food was yummy. The staff behind the bar were average service. But in hospitality shifts are so long, so you cant smile all the time.
Popped in for a quick lunch. We were on a timeline so needed something fast. We gave the waiter our timeline and he said he could make it work. We left with full stomachs, on time and under budget. Very happy.
Ive looked passes pub so many times in my past, so finally I have gone in lets have a quick drink. Its cozy and seems like a nice vibe. Have to try that food in the future as they have her award-winning steak and ale pie.
Good pub for a Sunday roast and beer with friends.
I went here when I was absolutely starving, the barman was extremely welcoming and I ordered a really nice Guinness. But the food was out of this world, I ordered the Ale and Steak pie with mash, the shortcrust pastry was probably one of the finest Ive tasted for a pie, you could really taste the buttery smoothness of it, lovely mash and gravy as well, I will definitely come here again!
Sat in the secret garden. Nice place to stop and have a break. It started to rain, but it didnt damper our experience. Love the outside of the building. Very warm and welcoming :)
Lovely decor, pleasant staff. Good food although the "wedges" which are actually fried dauphinoise were only half ediable, the rest I couldnt cut or stick a fork through.£5 fee added to the bill for table service, when due to the current pandemic situation table service is now mandatory🤔 Asked to be removed and staff obliged without a problem.
Very cosy pub! The food was great and the portions were generous. Indoor seating is quite limited but they do have a balcony. Because the indoor seating is limited, it was very loud. They are missing real French mustard and mint sauce; they only had American and English mustard, and mint jelly. Add these and it will be a winning pub!
Cute place but at 7 pm on a Sunday, they ran out of Sunday roast (no more beef, lamb, or pork). The toilet was filthy and out of toilet paper, and the hand dryer broken. The chicken roast dinner was flavorful and a huge portion. Prices a little high. Staff was nice. Place is loud but fun ambience - probably the only reason it gets 2 stars.
Lovely place! We had fish&chips here. It was terrific. We enjoyed a lot the atmosphere, music and food. The stuff was helpful as well. Very warm ambience. Plus, it has a back yard where you can sit in fresh air and enjoy.
