The Stone Dolls in Kumanovo

Extraordinary site, beautiful, and the guides are really friendly. I highly recommend a visit.

Nice place to visit, but located far of the main road

Very interesting place.Sience has one story about it and the legend says something else.The walking paths are not maintained, difficult to walk around especialy with children.

Really beautiful area with interesting rocks. There were also a couple of tortoises that we spotted! Sadly the footpaths are not that well maintained. We were there around 4pm and there was no one there to take an entry fee (which is a shame, due to the maintenance issue). But overall worth a visit for half an hour.

Wonderful natural monument.Sadly there is no road sign where to turn from the main road (it is in Ketenovo village where you need to take a narrow asphalt road of about 3+ km to reach the Kuklica - Stone Dolls).I. this area I highly recommend to visit the Lesnovo Monastery of Saint Gavril (Gabrieland the old town of Kratovo.

This beautiful place is a true wonder of nature, and it’s definitely worth visiting and seeing it.The road is paved but narrow, so drive careful. The parking fee is only 30 denars. The information center is run by a very friendly person Milosh that is very helpful and will tell you about the history of Kuklica.There is two stories about the creation.It’s really nice because it’s quiet and get away from the city or every day life.The Etno restaurant Kuklica is a great place for lunch or dinner.Little info: Kuklica, "Stone wedding" or The stone town is an area consisting of over 120 naturally formed stone pillars, located in the village of Kuklica, 8km northwest of Kratovo. The stone dolls called "The Bride and groom" are the largest in the area and center oriented.Legends: There are two main legends surrounding the formation of the strange stone pillars in Kuklica. The most famous legend is that of a man who could not decide which of two women he should marry. So, the man planned to marry each woman on the same day at different times. When the first wedding was in progress, the woman to marry the man second went to see who was getting married on the same day as she. When she saw her future husband marrying another woman, she cursed all in attendance at the wedding and turned them into stone.Second: Another popular legend is that there was once a forest in the area, but due to battles it was burned down. Then, the area became a wasteland. The temperatures were very low and when the army passed through the wasteland, all of the soldiers turned into rocks.Formation: Aside from mystic stories and legends, the earth pyramid in Kuklica was formed as a result of natural erosion processes in the Holocene, during the past 100,000 years. Differences in the erodibility of the volcanic rocks of the area are the main factor for the pillars creation. Thus, soft tuffs rocks on the base are overlaid by solid, sturdy andesites and ignimbrites on the top, which are nearly 30 million years old.

It was literally everything seen on the photos. Nothing more! A total waste of time.

Impressive and unique stone formation, worth a visit in the beautiful macedonian landscape.

Really nice place where you can see how funny nature can be. Rather lonely and far away from bigger cities so probably good time to look at beautifull World in quitness.

Stunning geological site.

The access is free after few kms where you should hope not to meet another car. The stone formations are impressive, different shapes, and you can let your imagination run wild about similarities. Toilets are awful.

Historical and unexplored place near a wonderful nature, with a gorgeous sunset.

A phenomenal location, easy hike 1h out of Skopje. Feels like a different planet.

Lovely place, the road to get there is asphalt, 3 meters wide (very narrow), but not a lot of traffic (end of October i was there). There is a parking lot as well, not paved, but for around 20cars...In Fall it was great, due to the different colors of the trees.

Place to let your fantasy do its work. Create your own story about the stone dolls. There is a local restaurant near by to rest and enjoy the local cuisine.

A place so creatively thought of, which would be boring otherwise. These are dolls made out of rocks that have been there for 10000 or 20000 years, as the info plate says. Someone thought of the idea to name them "Stone Dolls" and give them roles in a family. So, theres a bride, a groom, bridesmaids, groomsmen, distinguished guests and family. Its a very interesting concept that has drawn attention to lots of tourists, so the point is made. These dolls have appeared in music videos of Macedonian artists. Its worthy of a visit and a couple of photos.

Very interesting place worth visiting. The road leads you directly there, and the site itself offers cosy resting benches under trees which you can even use for small-scale picnics or just for enjoying the site on a very hot day.

Nature is perfect.Humans are the bad part in this.The municipality MUST TAKE CARE OF This precious spot.If this was in Switzerland, they would call it "little Iceland" or something...

Great Place to „Must See“ in good old Macedonia!

Beautiful Macedonian nature! It really is like a fairytale. Come and enjoy with your family in the pure silence. There are many tables to sit and picnic, but there is no running water or toilet just a village toilet so bring toilet paper just in case and bring some water to drink. Small but asphalt road leads to the small dirt parking lot in front of the entrance.

A must see in that area.

It s an amazing place if one is into nature. These unique petrifyed woods make a wonderfull scenery.There s also a picknick area, so u can spend some more time and make BBQ.

We left speechless when we visited this place with my wife. @psychicsam

Magnificent work if nature. Cactus valley bring new dimension to the place.

Well this was a disappointing place! Completely under-developed, vandalized and terribly maintained. We came all the way from Skopje by minibus and after a long (but I must admit nicewalk into the site we were really astounded by the state of this place. Truly zero to be awed about this place (as other reviews suggest). Only come here if you are in the immediate area, and have your own car, as its a long walk to the main road to catch the bus back. Its basically a dozen or so volcanic rocks in what seems to be an overgrown dell on the side of the hill. Sadly, this place is considered a must-see in Macedonia. The tourist department has some serious work to do here, before marketing it as unmissable!!

Gotta give the Macedonias extra plus for their fantasy. The stonedolls are leftovers from a vulcanic activity from another era. However people with a lot of fantasy made it in to a wedding were something went wrong and the wedding couple along with their guests got frozen in time. Must have been a giant wedding, since the "dolls" are 4-5 meter high. Nevertheless a nice place to visit.

It is very unique place surrounded by green nature, but all that was built to serve tourists is destroyed.

This place is like a fairytale. Its amazing how the stones stay the way they are. Climb them and explore them you wont regret it. Climb at the top and you will have a breathtaking view all just for yourself. Amazing for photographers.

Amazing stone dolls, myth says cursed stoned people on a wedding, by the girl that was not the chosen one, or the girl that would be the second bride that day, but saw the first bride on the wedding. Created from the erosion of volcanic rocks, formations really look like people. A big natural wonder in Macedonia.

Must see! Its much more spectacular than it looks on the photographs.

Awesome place for travelers, has a good folk story behind it all. One of the few places in the world that has this kind of rock formation
