Victorian splendour, comfort food and real ale in a grand boozer with wood panels and chandeliers.
Charming local pub. The toiletarea smelled old. Liked the food.
Good place to watch rugby and have a pint or two
Not been there for many years. Had the fish & chips, which were lovely. Only thing missing was mushy peas rather than the crushed minted peas. The staff were friendly & attentive.👍🏻😊
Great experience, felt the food was pricey though, given portion sizes etc.
It was an OK venue where the drinks were s little on the pricey side but nice and cold nonetheless! Menu is a little limited but if you like burgers, thus us for you!
Average pub but the food was better than expected. They have screens showing sports.
What a beautiful pub, we attended for a 25th wedding anniversary. Food was excellent, the function room was perfect. Staff really nice and quick. Great evening!
Cracking pie and fantastic seasonal beers. Great value! Recommended. Will be back again!!
Good food, the club sandwich with chips very good. The pub girl is very kind and professional. Approved,
Nice pub next to Croydon library, staff attentive and very helpful. Quiet atmosphere good for meeting friends and a quick drink!
Great pub with good choices of beer. Good polite service. Plenty of indoor and outdoor spaces. Basement toilets. Very close public transport. Must visit
Great Fullers pub. Food is always tasty and fresh.
Just stopped in for an afternoon beverage. Service was ok, fast and friendly. We liked the patio.
Typical fullers pub good service and a fine pint of ESB
Brilliant food, fantastic service, highly, HIGHLY recommended. Will be visiting again.
Adjacent to Central Croydon Library on St. Katherines Street overlooking a construction site is Spread Eagle, a Fullers Brewery. Ale and pies, a board is visible on the left with The Corn Exchange on the East. This is perhaps the only pub in Croydon with a golden Eagle statue above the main entrance facing north.
Rude staff, don’t bother. Quiet Sunday afternoon and rudely told to move to the other side of the pub with my quiet 1 year old despite there being some stinking noisy dog nearby. Living in the stone ages. I just left.
Lovely traditional public house. Great beer, good food, good service. Lovely building
We went for a early drink just after midday,so pretty quiet midweek. Ordered two drinks one salad and chips. The vegan menu isnt great but the salad we ordered was supposed to have contained avocado too but that was missing. Prices quite high
Very overpriced pub we got two orange juices which cost £6.50 and I ordered the duo roast for £19.50 it said on the menu beef and half chicken, but the chicken wasn’t even half a chicken breast and the beef was more fat than meat also there was two tiny half potatoes two thin bits of parsnip and carrot and a rock hard Yorkshire pudding. Definitely not worth the money. The staff were friendly enough though which was the only good thing I can say about the pub.
Great, cosy pub with a warm and inviting atmosphere. Really comes into its own in the colder months. Good selection of drinks, including various gins, snack food and full meals. Drinks are slightly on the pricey side for Croydon in my opinion, but the atmosphere of the place makes up for this. Food is good value. Some nice veggie and vegan options now too.Indoor and some outdoor seating. Recommend booking for Friday or Saturday evenings.
Very few seating. Its tired, dated and doesnt look or feel very clean.I would not be going back because of that. But they make a good espresso martini and have lovely customer service.
Warm atmosphere and super friendly and helpful staff. Although, it is cheaper than other pubs the food was delish and particularly Sunday roast was the best!
I showed up there today at 14:00, and weirdly they were closed, no signs, no closed doors, and staff chilling inside... They then told me that today they are opening at 15:00. So I showed up at 15:00 (a couple of seconds after the city hall bell rang), and asked if they were open, because the gentleman was still bringing condiments to the outside tables... to what the small very short haired chubby gentleman told me "not quite!", To what I reply "but you said youd be open", I asked if I could just go in and wait inside because I was cold, to what the same gentleman said "no", plain no, not a sorry, not an explanation on why theyre not on time, nothing... So I just went down the street to a much nicer pub, the green dragon, at least there they value their guests. Bro if you dont like a customer/guest facing job, theres thousands of alternative jobs.
Stopped in for a bottle of decent ale, they had what I wanted, golden pride, bar man was decent, gave me the correct glass (not one with a widget at the bottom of the glassbeer was in date, nice clientele and toilets were very clean. In the past, always excellent customer service, food and good choice of drinks and to top it all off they have a disabled toilet that my gf has no trouble using. We have our own radar key but the bar has one also.I have 2 favourite pubs I visit in Croydon and this is one of them
Still hanging in there as a traditional pub .in the fast changing face of Croydon. Nice beer selection, efficient staff . Big tvs for sport ,but plenty of seating for more cosy drinking .we had good night in there
Once again “The Spread Eagle” didn’t let me down. Due to the pandemic I haven’t visited Croydon and this lovely pub for quite a while. My son took (and passedhis driving theory test earlier so where else to celebrate with a pie and a pint? The pies; proper pies - not the casseroles with a pastry lid served served in other establishments, were delicious. Swilled down with a couple of pints of well kept Fullers beer by friendly and engaging staff in a clean pub with plenty of character and at a reasonable price. Perfect 👍🏼
This place is great! Atmosphere is chill and cool but the staff is also really friendly. Every time a friend visits me from abroad, I always take them to my local favorite British traditional pub.
Had a fantastic time at this pub. I booked for 10 of us to watch Autumn International rugby and was given a private room upstairs complete with dining table, sofas, a large tv and speakers. Staff were friendly and easy-going. Drinks reasonable value for London.
One of the best pubs in Croydon. Staff are helpful as well.
Expensive for a pub. Very limited selections on the menu. Only one vegetarian option, even though everyone in my party were meat eaters. We were cramped against another table, so couldn’t move. One member of our party was in a wheelchair, and another wanted cream with their pudding. They didn’t put it in a jug. The portions were more like something that you would give to children. Lack of vegetables with the meal. Very cold.
Lovely cosy pub, the owner is super accommodating, the food is tasty and lovely, we got treated very well, I love the decor and we had a fantastic time with our friends and family. We will be back for sure.
Convenient pub near central Croydon, with a variety of indoor and outdoor seating, decent interior, and ok pies and drinks.
Thank youThe food was very delicious, customer service very friendly and great owner and chef
V nice pub. Being a Fullers pub meant it was guaranteed to have a great selection of ales, beer & lagers on tap including guest ales (one of my current favourites being Beavertown Neck Oil with their multicoloured pint glasses!).Lovely decor with the old fashioned leather chairs & wood panelling, but with added bonus of multiple TV screens to watch live sport (managed to catch some test cricket & football on my visits today).Good location too, situated next door to Croydon Library & the corner of the High Street, so only a short walk from the main shopping area, the market, local restaurants & Vue Grants cinema.
My partner and I visited The Spread Eagle on Bank Holiday Monday. The beer as always was good and our meal was ok. The experience was spoilt however by one member of staff who clearly did not want to be working that day. For most of my trips to the bar she was quite happy to let her other colleagues do the work if she could get away with it and on the one occasion she did serve me she was surly with an attitude.
Sharing nachos were a good size but left much to be desired, sour cream, salsa and guacamole tasted like they came at of a squeezy bottle and jalapenos came out of an average pickle jar.Chicken wings were pretty good, would definitely try them or the other flavour variants that are on offer should I return.Tasting Board - pretty decent pies and gravy but the green sauce is probably an acquired taste even though there wasnt all that much taste to it.Overall not bad and service was of a good standard with friendly and attentive staff even at busy times.
Great experience, Engand won ! And we had 2 keep are masks on xx
Good covid measures in place, fast fuss free service and seems clean. Good selection of drinks available.Do not order their sandwiches, they are dry and lack flavour. The triple cooked chips were luke warm and some were hard. Thoroughly disappointed with the food, i ate it because i was hungry but i should have sent it back. The waitress was pleasant though but i wont be back
Good pub to have some rest with drinks.
We have not been to Croydon many times but we needed a dog friendly pub that could take bookings...The table service was brilliant! The staff we lovely, friendly and attentive. We also ordered burgers that were absolutely lovely. If you want a delicious drink with a view, the stunning Civic Centre and the Queen Victoria statue are directly outside.
Updating my review with second meal here, enjoyed it very much. 😀
Central location with classic pub decor.Staff in there were lovely and helpful.Had their speciality pie, mince beef, and it was well cooked, along with their 3 times cooked chips.A classic pub meal that went down well.Atsmospgere was lively and wasnt too busy (got there 7.30pm)
Friendly staff, welcoming place for a new to the pub visitor. Great service and an excellent veggie pub lunch.
This place is great for a drink and to watch your football team win (hopefullyif that’s your goal 4*. The food for me was way too salty and not ideally with beer 3*
Good place to watch football. Tried their steak and ale pie - by its self, it was alright but the gravy was way too salty. Probably won’t go for the food again.
Love this place, very regal, wonderful decor and great team. Can be hard to get any attention on Friday nights. As I dont really drink not a problem for me! Food is great :)The decoration and ambience is great, definitely one of the most upmarket venues in Croydon. They do pay attention to the little things and the pies are great. The food menu and items are brilliant. Its really good traditional English food.
Never a watery pint served here. Lots of choice so if your taste buds get bored you can find them something new to try. Always feels cozy with its proper pub decor, couple of big screens for sports fans but only for big matches otherwise they are on but silent so you can hold a conversation. Still one of the best pubs in Croydon.
Fine and well up-kept pub with a good, varied selection of beers and ales, decent food and friendly staff. Good location too, on the corner of a lively Croydon high street in viewing distance of, but far enough away from, the yout riff-raff drunk on their breezers.
Nice pub in Croydon with a decent amount of space to sit. They do film screenings too which is cool. My bosss meal was a bit cold when it came out which they refunded.
