Not impressed! Its not a big musuem and pricey. We spent an hour there and seen and read everything they had to offer. Tried asking questions about my German sur name and Sylvia told me "oh that would be $10-$15 an hour for THEM TO RESEARCH." Then rambled on for another 10 minutes about insignificant information. She did make sure she got me the business card for their archives coordinator. She also referred me to their web site claiming I could do my own research. When I tried their website, the first thing that pops up is DONATE! The menu is blocked by their cookies statement and unless you agree you cant get to the menu. The musuem for active duty military is free which is nice however, if you are a retiree it doesnt matter to them.

Was small, friendly, clean, and cool shady rest spot. A few movies to watch to get full prospective of history. And FREE to Active Duty Military and Veterans. Top notch place. Would like to go back when we have more time.

The Sophienburg museum provides an interesting background on the history and experience of German settlers in the region. Exhibits range from the vessels they came in to life in town. Movies provide additional detail on how and why they came and their influence on modern day education. Allow 45-60 minutes to take it all in. Excellent value if youre interested in regional history.

You must go into Sophies gift shop it is amazing. It has holiday themed items, as well as great day to day items. The young lady that runs the gift shop is very helpful and obviously takes pride in her work.

$8 well spent. The staff was so knowledgeable! I learned more about the history of New Braunfels today in the tour than I did after an hour at the library looking through NB history books. I would recommend visiting this small museum if you have time.

Ahhhh, this place is a mind- vacation! While passing through the Hill country of Texas I stopped to see the cabin home of an early day Texas botanist and was told of this museum so I went there the next day. From his botany prints to artifacts from early day settlers in Texas I was mesmerized for hours. Go see what Texas nature is all about.

The lady at the front was extremely and the hag made me and my sister not even really want to go in. We paid the $8/each anyway and the whole museum was just one room that took 5 mins to walk through and be over with. Huge regrets.

Located on the original site founded by Prince Carl of Solms-Braunfels, the museum helps tell the story of New Braunfels & the people who settled & thrived here. Historical records, maps, & genealogical information also there.
