The Skylark - JD Wetherspoon in George

This Wetherspoons used to be like a hidden treasure with great quality food, and friendly staff. Shame it’s going but my last experience was the worst. I waited over an hour for food. I paid 60p extra for sauce that was free for everyone else. The burger was literally the definition of a Dry Sandwich. Looks like leftover salad added to my burger and the cheese with no thought to add and melt. Convinced the main manager ‘Mick’ is definitely racist , on more than one occasion he has treated me and other guests with such ignorance it’s shocking.

Such a shame to see this pub go. Many wonderful evenings were had here

So sad to see this place closing - in the six years I lived in Croydon I went there so many times. So many nice memories. I hope it re-opens in the future.

Ive just discover this wonderful pub in South Croydon. It has an amazing selection of drinks and an extensive food menu - all for such good prices. I look forward to coming here more often in the future.

Very busy on the weekends, great atmosphere and just a brilliant place to be.The people who chose to shut down this pub are idiots. Everyone including the staff is upset about it.

Had a great time with friends, so sad its closing. Been drinking there since it opened. Will really miss it. Goodbye. 😔

Great pub, most Wetherspoons I’ve been to are, great value. Decor maybe a little tired

As you can see the food is lovely and nicely cooked.10/10Some staff rude but such a lovely cosy place.

Great pub with a good range of beers. Spoons food menu with VfM prices. Im hearing rumours the Sky might close. Thatll be a great shame. Spoons staff excellent.

It is great for a cheap night, the staff in the Skylark were very friendly and efficient what more can you want really. Its is be no means high end by then I think we all know that.

Decent places, nicest spoons in the Croydon area in my opinion. Out of the way from the main town centre so is quieter with a more varied group of people.Food is always decent here with fast service.Staff are pleasant but not the most interactive of bar staff Ive ever encountered. Last time I visited a two staff in particular I found quite rude, which is out of character for here.It is a spoons at the end of the day and most likely had dealt with several annoyance throughout their shift.Good place and is the spoons I always visit when in the area.

Why cant all weatherspoons have a management team like this public house . Absolute first class proffesional team expertly run. Yes to raka & her team

Its a weatherspoons so my expectations werent high but they completely failed on providing a basic service . Dont have a themed meal offer and then not have half the dishes available. Though staff were apologetic one individual was particularly condescending telling us "Dont worry its not your fault " well obviously it isnt.

Staff are polite food is reasonably priced and beer is cheap, plenty of seating.

Nice pub. Decent service. Lots of tables and a good choice of beers. Plenty of vegetarian, vegan, glucose intolerant and alcohol free options.A short distance from Croydon but without the antisocial behaviour associated with Croydon.The prices are unbelievable with Doombar £1.99 as of 9th December 2022.

The staff were great all night until it came to the power happy managerI took my empty glasses back to the bar to thank the bar staff and say good night and was told it was obvious i dont listenJe said .. i was told to leave at 1210 and it was now 1217 how rude of meI will never enter a weatherspoons pub again as long as i live. 4/1/22You either want regular customers or you dont

Its a wetherspoons innit! Cheap enough to get past the dubious politics. Not too rough in here. Good mix of young and very old. Families and people starting/ending their nights. Food isnt too shabby if you stick to the simple stuff.

Was served by Ryan, sadly after an incident where he refused to serve someone without Id and they accused him of being racist, I’m Pakistani with Jamaican husband who he’s served millions of times. Even though he was basically abused by this group he served us professionally. Also Scott and Kameron looked after us really well! They are all credit to the skylark. Jamie was brilliant also.

Good value for money we usually stop off here for a drink before going to one of the many restaurants nearby.

It was horrible. People with hoodies. Young waitresses being flabbergasted by them. Muslim organisation. But yet having evil rap music playing and owners having dun in secret party at the back house with all the trimmings. Just horrible.

Great space with dining upstairs and downstairs. Specials everyday. Pay car park nearby plus plenty of buses. Staff are friendly and helpful

Had a meal for 4 on a sunday night great value as always and food very good disappointed that they had no Abbot Ale but Doombar and Ruddles ale was availableService was excellent and staff very friendly

Hi.10:40 ordering traditional breakfast. Im was asked with what drink I would like it. I choose apple juice. I didnt know Im choosing large apple juice for 2.10gbp. Zero information about. If it not included can at least choose size..Large or small? I get large one... Without knowing that. At least without ice cubes like i asked but freezing.....might be iwoukd be better if she wasnt to busy having a chat with co-work friend about terminals and cashbacks.After receive my order I asked to take my juice away it was straight fridge and I said Im not gonna drink it anyway and Im not happy from service. "Waitress" get angry start to saying 3 other version what she said next to counter..... She cut conversation and told me to be shus on on my table or I have to go... Before even trying food.She was shouting through the bar and then the on back. I tried food and left I couldnt eat it.Also waitress said I abuse her.... I dont know how...Highly not recommended.Food 2/5. Sausages are terrible.Service even more 1/5Never f... again.2017 u had 5stars from me...

The staff here are useless, as there where no indoors table we went to the garden for a seat, after a while they went to close the garden and told us to sit inside. I ask the staff numerous times what would happen if we cant find a seat and they only said "just fine one" and after asking for the manager he just hid in the kitchen saying he was "too busy to talk".Even if they said that they was no tabl available I could have sorted a different pub out but they dont want to tell you that and wont do anything to help

Was at the venue for hours. Walking in and out without question. The minute my black boyfriend walks in, he is immediately searched and asked for ID. Which I thought was VERY interesting. I frequent this pub a lot, so I am very upset about this rubbish. He is 26, 5ft 4 and obviously not under age. He didnt have any ID, so we all had to leave. I just couldnt believe it, especially from a black security guard. I wont be coming here again.

I havent visited this pub for the best part of decade and can remember it in its glory days back when you wanted a drink you had to get into a queue 6 man deep.The pub itself is situated in South Croydon or the restaurant quarter which I believe is its correct name now. The surrounding area needs work done and is quite shabby now.Nether the less the pub itself is still in good nick. Its quite dark in there during the day. Theres plenty of seats and the the pub is spread over 2 floors with a small bar upstairs which I remember only opens in busier periods.Theres a small beer garden in the back if the weather is nice and youre able to grab a seat.Standard spoons. Decent drinks available and food.Would I come again? Probably.

Personally, I feel nervous in pubs. My friend invited me. We had coffee & hot chocolate. We could have multiple refills, free. Had a good chit-chat, by a quite table. Felt comfortable.

The covid-secure venue which is a favourite hub in Croydon for meet-ups. The drinks are cheap but fantastic value and taste and the food for the money is next to none perfection! The place to be in my humble opinion!

Best Wetherspoons in Croydon. Its a huge pub, spread over two floors. Theyve also got booths and a small patio garden at the back of the pub. They have friendly staff who know a lot of the locals that go in.Prompt service for food and drink as always with Wetherspoons.You can either choose to order off the app or the staff are happy to come and take orders from your table, which is great in these app-crazy days, and it makes it accessible to more customers.

Cant complain with a Wetherspoons. This place is big, spread over 2 floors with a small outdoor area. Bar service is always pretty quick or the Wetherspoons app is a great alternative. You get a good mix of people in here from the hard-core day drinkers to couples to twenty somethings on a night out

Nice atmosphere and good social distancing . Food was good

My first COVID era pub visit... Things have changed, with the main difference being socially distanced tables, masks required until imbibing, no ordering at the bar, but if paying with a card you must pay at the bar (?... These new rules are obviously not unique to this establishment but are just offered by way of reference. I ordered a pint of cider for myself and a cola for my son, paid, obtained a receipt and waited ... After 15 minutes I went back to the bar to see what had happened. Long story short, a server soon brought the drinks with a message to the effect of that the table / order had fallen off the radar. Overall staff were friendly enough ... Hard to review properly on the basis of this one not so fantastic experience.

Excellent food. Menu is extensive and seasonal to a particularly high standard. Definitely fine dining. It can be expensive but worth it and they do different deals on different nights so it’s worth checking them out before you book. Highly recommended.

Loved the outdoor setting, very comfortable. The toilets were clean, spotless. The food was great, freshly cooked and fairly priced. Staff are friendly too and was quick to serve

A traditional Wetherspoons pub based in South End, South Croydon. The choices here are great, and the staff are great at their jobs and are friendly. The only issue that I have with this place is the seating arrangement, which means that some places will leave you close to other people. Also, this place tends to get very busy, especially on Friday and Saturday nights. If you want to avoid large groups, try another pub in the area.

Had small all day breakfast, egg was undercooked, baked beens seemed to be old and dry. One thing that never lets me down in this particular pub - chips! Super yummy! Staff polite and friendly. Place clean, social distancing well applied.

Used the eat out to help out scheme. Lovely outdoor seating with a v large brunch and unlimited tea and coffee. Would come again. Had hand sanitisation areas

Cheap pints as usual with spoons. Lovely little garden at the back of the house, quiet, when the main floor was very busy during our visit. Its quite big pub, two floors and full of locals on Sunday evening.

Amazing staff - the guy with the paw print tat is an absolute legend. Nice food. Shames most the real ales were off. However, our barman/kitchen porter/server was an amazing guy who made us feel feel so welcome, that the lack of real ale wasnt an issue. More staff needed to allow the staff yo not look like they have more work than reasonable, but so caring and engaging it was still a lovely evening.

Rating because in-and-out out beer selection, staff disinterest etc. Pub facility OK plenty of seating and reasonable food, when no food scare.Latest visit, pub looking cleaner and service a little better. Considering it was during a beer festival, the choice was not stunning. I think customers would pay a bit more for some better cask "craft" ales if given the choice. Quality not quantity.

I met a friend, during 12-3 pm, to review materials he had prepared on his computer. The place is spacious and ideal for our purpose. I ate their Scottish haggis meal which I enjoyed, the drinks as usual good and very friendly staff. Ambience superb despite the owner!

Lost track how many times I went here for just a few or a quick drink and ended up having a wonderfully insane drunken night. The booze is cheap and the Beer on tap flows. Its not some high class Establishment, but its a great venue for the mates to get drunk in. To watch Football or get a fair priced meal. Food isnt bad. Recommend for what it is.

Went with a big group and for the price I cannot fault the quality nor the service. Really tasty food and easy to order (via app or just up at the barand came really quickly to the table. Good value with many of the meals coming with free drinks! Had the quinoa salad and fried haloumi, really enjoyed both and will definitely be back again.

Really nice with friendly staff and customers. Quick service at the bar with tonnes of seating upstairs, where there was another bar serving. Returned late Saturday where I had a delicious lamb shank, great menu with tonnes to choose from. Sefinitely going again.

What a nice and cosy pub. They have another special on every weekday. Especially the steak and the chicken special on Tuesdays and Wednesdays is clearly recommend. Not only by the price that is fair but mainly because of the very good food you get.Since its a pub you order the food either at the bar over via some app called wetherspoon. But the food is being brought to your table.If youre a fan of sauces, you will be lucky since there is a broad selection of different sauces on the right hand side of the bar.They serve freshly drawn beer for different tastes and also various types of bottled ones. Also a nice selection of gins and whiskeys for those who like. Good place!

I found The Skylark busy enough to give it a pleasant atmosphere, without deafening background noise or a long wait to be served.Service was good, the food very good, particularly for the price. A good range of beers, at very good prices, and the place was kept tidy, no tables left full of empty plates or glasses.

Did forget our drinks we ordered from the app before the bar closed upstairs. (happens, I think it is due to the way the spoons app is set up in the pub)Though when I questioned it, they instantly helped us and sorted it all out.Also did us a favour when someone forgot to add a drink on the app.Very friendly staff and a nice atmosphere!Definitely be back!

Very good Spoons. A great chef who serves food with great gusto. And a huge chefs special Angus steak with mushrooms, tomato, peas and chips for only £6.99. Very tasty too and great bar staff. Huge range of beers and ciders
