The Second Line in Memphis

Great food and service. It was a pop-up restaurant menu this night, but I have enjoyed their regular menu before. My only knock on them is a personal preference: I dont care for the trend of serving food on metal dishes. Its some kind of cutesy trend that I dont find cute. Porcelain, ceramic or stoneware dishes for my food, please.

The restaurant has a nice atmosphere, with lots of small tables and a long bar. Good drink options, with a full bar. I had the blueberry mojito and it was delicious and good and strong. The outdoor seating is quite popular and plentiful. The menu has classic Cajun and creole options, like a muffeletta, poboys, and gumbo. The prices are pretty typical for Overton square, not too cheap, but not terribly overpriced. The food is tasty and filling. We sat at the bar and had good service, which is not always typical but very much appreciated. Great restaurant for good vibes and tasty bites. Enjoy!

I always have delicious food when I visit this place! Its a keeper!

I liked my dish, which was this chicken enchilada bake. It had a lot of flavors and was reasonably healthy compared to the other options on the menu. I didnt think my bloody mary was very good. I dont make them at home but the other ones Ive had in the city werent quite so spicy. Also nothing was garnished, which was kind of weird at this price point. Their menu online is more or less the menu that you get in person, although theres one or two changes.I would eat here again.

Another excellent restaurant by Kelly English. Memphis is lucky to have him.

Exceptional dining experience in a fun, entertaining part of Memphis!The atmosphere was quaint, yet still felt very lively inside. This is in an old house and it might seem smaller inside, however we had no trouble sitting down at our table.The food was awesome! Perhaps one of the best brunches I’ve had in the Memphis area. I highly recommend the crawfish and pimento cheese fries!The staff was very friendly. We were seated promptly. Service was fast and our waitress was very attentive.I think the bar at this place looked really cool. Whenever I come back I am going to try to sit at the bar and try a few cocktails with brunch.Overall this was a terrific spot to grab brunch. Loved it! Highly recommend.

Celebrating my daughters 50th birthday. Cajun dishes were soo delicious! Early dinner so not crowded. Waiter/bartender was the best ever!!

Our experience was disappointing from both a food quality and service standpoint, unfortunately. My friend asked for grilled shrimp and got blackened, we had to ask for our drinks twice, and my red beans were watery, with only 2 or 3 small pieces of sausage. The atmosphere is cute, and Ill bet its a fun place to sit outside in the evenings.

I met a friend for after dinner drinks and apps. We sat at the bar and enjoyed strong, perfectly prepared cocktails. I ordered the BBQ Shrimp - they earned the name “irrationally good”. Can’t wait to go back and order dinner.

This place was awesome! Now parking is very limited due to the location but worth it! The food and service was excellent! The food came quickly and prepared hot and delicious! The adult beverages are an added tasty treat! Very yum yum! Highly recommended!

Two companions & I dined here for lunch on a Friday. One of my favorite meals ever! The food and service were exceptional, and I love the ambience. Highly recommend the roast beef and chubby vegetarian poboys. Will definitely return, hopefully for dinner soon.

Chicken Cordon Bleu and greens were fantastic!! Poached egg was done perfectly. So glad that I ordered this dish!

Second Lines food is actually really good!It is based on New Orleans cuisine. The food is very flavorful and tasty.My friend had the Redfish & Crawfish Pontchartrain, and she loved it!I had the Chubby Vegetarian Po Boy, which comes with mushrooms in a red wine sauce. Of course, there was a lot of bread like on all Po Boys, but the mushrooms tasted amazing!I also had the red beans & rice! This dish was soooo good!For dessert, I had the Cookie Trio. It included a snickerdoodle cookie with honey, a chocolate brownie with nutella, and maybe a sugar cookie with caramel, I believe. It was soo good!My parents stated that they enjoyed the bread pudding! And, they love bread pudding!Please note, they rotate their desserts! So just because its there one week, doesnt mean it will be there the next week unless its their bread pudding or brownie.For drinks, I did not care for my original order, and I had it remade. I still did not care for it. I cant even remember the name of it. My friend did enjoy her drink, which I think was a Strawberry Margarita. Eventually, I ordered a French 75 with brandy, and it was nice!Now, though the food was really good, what actually made my experience was the managements customer service. After we did not have a pleasant experience with our server, the manager stepped in and rectified the entire situation. Because of the managers concern and care, I came back the very next weekend with my friends! God bless the manager! I think his name is Michael or Chris!Anywho, go visit! Hopefully, you wont be disappointed!

We ordered 5 different plates for Brunch and each one was Devine. I highly recommend. The pancakes are gigantic!!

Used to love this place but the last three visits have been underwhelming. Ordered 3 dishes that I have always ordered and none of them had the great flavor as before. I also had lukewarm food each of the last three visits. Not sure what the change is. The owner/chef is an amazing chef and person. Great location.

My husband wanted to try this restaurant out and there wasnt any seating available (you have to reserveexcept the bar area, he didnt want us sitting at the bar area but I made him aware I was ok with it, we were going to turn around and try somewhere else, but Im glad we proceeded with bar sitting...This very nice lady working the bar name Michelle was so vibrant, engaging, and attentive. With my husband treating, I asked Michelle did she have any apps to receive additional cash payments because I wanted to give 50% of the bill! Michelle if you hadnt already make sure you get all the apps to receive payments to receive larger tips, we will most definitely be back and sit at the bar!

My favorite restaurant in Memphis!! Never a bad meal or drink! Incredible employees and atmosphere. Chef Kelly English goes above and beyond giving back to the Memphis community!

If you like paying $18 for 8 pieces of popcorn bbq shrimp, this is the place for you! Had to send it back because is was barely warm (despite the fact they serve it in a small cast iron skillet, like it’s come directly from the stove top lol). When it was returned to me, our waiter apologized but added “I can hook you up with more bread if you’d like? I said “Sure.” When I tabbed out, there was a $2.00 charge for “Extra bread. Really?Thanks for “hooking me up”.Blues City Cafe is the place i’ll be going back to for BBQ shrimp.

This restaurant is 5 stars all the way. The food and service is amazing. I cant wait to go back.

The customer service here was excellent. My husband and I decided on Second Line and we did not regret it. The redfish entree, the fried shrimp entree and the fries with crawfish and cheese was dangerous good. We will definitely visit again.

Best service, best salad, best fries...this has quickly become one of our favs! Make this your first stop if youre in Midtown!

The service was absolutely horrible. We waited 20 minutes for our first drink. Then they lost our order but still managed to bring our other friend (who came half an hour after ushis food. It has now been 30 min since his food came out and ours is still not (See picture below). Such good food here ,but this has now happen multiple times when coming here, so unfortunately this will be my last time coming here.

Perfectly fried oysters with a greens salad, very lightly spiced cajun catfish and cheese grits👍A bit pricey but then again, quality is seldom inexpensive these days🤔

I would really give it 4.5, because the negatives are not strong enough to warrant a full star deduction.However, service was very slow at first. Probably 5-10 minutes to get anything besides water.After that, service was quick. Our server was new (I thinkbut she worked hard and did good.Food was good. Not exceptional, but certainly worth visiting.Brunch notables: Pancakes, Quiche, Pimento Cheese Fries, Bread Pudding.Prices aren’t terrible. Atmosphere is quaint. Would be interested to go during the warmer months to check out their outdoor seating.Worth the visit.

Nice atmosphere soft enough to be sensual with enough light for a business meeting. The cocktails are creative and bold and expertly mixed. I had the crawfish and pimento cheese fries and the only thing bigger than the taste was the portion. Would definitely recommend!

Love this place. It’s a local gem with charming quirks. Worth the visit. The catfish plate is delicious. The cheese grits are delicious. The bread pudding is delicious. Go all out!

The catfish was really greasy, and the frys was over seasoned. My son asked for sweet tea and they gave him unsweetened. Not a good experience.Hope the lunch experience is better than our dinner on Friday 10/21/2021.

My wife and I came here two years ago and were blown away. We had the best cocktail ever! Food was over the top! This year we decided to schedule our vacation to make sure we could come back and redo the magic. I can’t describe the disappointment! Cocktails were watered down , oysters and fries overcooked to the point that I still taste burnt breading. $87 later my wife and I have decided we have seen enough of Memphis. Will look for magic elsewhere. The two stars instead of one was bc of the waiter who tried to recreate- not his fault and the amazing appetizers bbq shrimp- not the shrimp- but the amazing bread and sauce!

Food was a tad overpriced but it was good. I got the fried catfish which was done perfectly but didnt understand why my spinach wasnt served with a bread for dipping. The blueberry monitor was sweet and tasteful. Would go again but probably not order as much.

The ambiance was great! I loved the service and the drinks was amazing! We came for bread pudding but they were out so we had to get a brownie and was pleasantly surprised!

Have been meaning to stop by and I certainly was not let down. Great atmosphere as well! Very reflective of some of the many good things Memphis has to offer.

Food was no worth the price at all. Music was terrible. Maybe try some jazz. It was cozy but the price I pay for a poboy is not worth it. Service was very slow. Food was bland with no real spices. If the creole with a twist means no flavor you nailed it. The au jus looked like dirty dish water. Gravy is pretty good. I ordered it in place of the dirty Louisiana swamp water they gave me. Ambience was nice 🙂

Absolutely amazing meal at TSL today. Restaurant was spotless clean and our server always wore a mask. Our servers name was Morgan and her suggestions were spot on. Overall an amazing experience. Well be back soon!!!

We absolutely loved this eclectic gem of a place. The Second Line is located in the heart of mid town, and full of great food. They even have valet parking! We dined inside, because of a chilly night, but the patio was amazing and had heaters, if we had wanted to brave the cold. We started with amazing cocktails, with a BBQ shrimp appetizer with french bread, then enjoyed fabulous shrimp and grits. The Po Boy sandwiches looked delicious too. We topped our nite off with a chunk of amazing bread pudding, drowning in caramel, pecans, and ice cream, served up on a metal pan. Our server was friendly, full of personality, and very attentive. We absolutely put this place on our favorite list!

Not worth the time or money, service was slow, they closed at 2 with no sinage. Bloody Mary was basic beef and gravy poboy came with pickles. Just a total wast of my afternoon. The fries with andouille, crawfish and pimento was decent. Just dont bother...

Best gumbo. Ever. I love spicy food and I’ve eaten in New Orleans and throughout Louisiana and Kelly English can make some gumbo with layers of taste that are sensational here in the Bluff City. I have eaten here several times and been impressed every time.It doesn’t relate to the food necessarily but the menu is absolutely hilarious to read.I enjoyed the meal so much I made sure to get gift cards for people because I want them to share in it. I don’t know how long Memphis can keep a hold of chef English but you better try this place while he still around.And get the gumbo.Update: They were out of somethjng else To go with my usual gumbo so I got their enchiladas. I just figured the enchiladas would be OK but as you can see in the skillet they were covered in a wonderful cheese and I absolutely loved them.

Had a great lunch experience with my nine year old son yesterday at The Second Line.. We shared the BBQ shrimp, which was so delicious, (picture included and also shared the fried shrimp Poboy sandwich with fries. Both dishes were amazing and we will definitely be back! Meh.This is comfort food, so if you are looking for something healthy, it ain’t here.The service is great. The food tastes good, but most of it is fried or breaded or full of cream/cheese. It’s all very heavy on the stomach and not a variety of selection.Also, it’s pretty loud here so bit hard to carry on conversations with a bigger party.All in all, not bad, but not great.

A pretty cool spot. Nice and clean inside. Service was fast and friendly. Hush puppies were great. My only complaint was that the catfish wasnt fried hard like I like it but I could have requested that. I will be back to try a few Po Boys

I wanted to love this place after reading the reviews, but the service was slow, and our appetizers came out around the same time as our entrees. The food was good. I had the catfish and onion rings and the gumbo.

I cant say enough about this places. Close by my work and ice eaten here at least 30 times. Must try shrimp Po Boy and Fried Catfish plate. Lived in Louisiana for 16 years. This is as good or better than whatever youll find there. Fantastic everything. Even the fries are unique and fantastic. Bread pudding, horseradish Potato salad and the sweet tea is the best in town! Just go! Also it seems people think the prices are higher than they are. Oh ask about the Muffaletta (not on the menu)!!!

This was a hidden gem found near Midtown! Street parking wasn’t too bad and definitely worth the experience. Second Line is in a cozy corner home-style setting. There wasn’t a wait at lunch and we got a nice spot by the window overlooking the square. There was also a full bar. The Poboys are the way to go. As someone who isn’t the biggest seafood fan I was glad to see other options. They bring their bread in from New Orleans and it was out of the this world! I also had the cheese grits which were a nice treat. Best of all, can’t beat a $10 lunch special. I will definitely be back again for more lunches and to check out brunch.

We had the BBQ shrimp and shrimp poboy. Both were amazing and so flavorful. The shrimp were cooked to perfection. The service was wonderful and the ambiance was really lovely. I would definitely come again!

So happy I found this place while visiting Memphis. Its located in what is now my favorite area in Memphis.We got there about 30 mins early which was fine because we walked around to kill time. Lots of cool spots in this area.We got seated immediately because as stated before we were there right when it opened. I was happy about that because it filled up quickly. We sat outside on the patio and it was absolutely lovely.We ordered some cocktails which were really good. Our server was perfect and the food was delicious.Definitely will be back.
