Rustic-chic gastropub with a Modern Scottish menu, draught and bottled beers, and whiskies galore.
Staff lovely, Starters excellent, two of three Mains quite ordinary, puddings excellent. I had the Sunday Roast - Yorkshire Pudding overcooked and not fluffy enough, a bit slim on the gravy, vegetables nice but again a little slim on the ground. Bill was £180 for three courses, three mains, two puddings, no wine, two bottles of Still Water and gratuity. My first Tom Kitchin experience, have a booking at Kitchin in January so will see if that hits 5 stars. Am sure it will. Well done, Adrian, Catherine & Jacques.
We had a delicious lunch here recently. The staff were excellent getting the level of attention just right. The food was delicious -The cured salmon was stunning as a starter and was the true highlight of the visit.Arancini starter was delicious alsoWe chose mains of Battered fish which was excellent and rather too large a portion and also the cod fillet which came wrapped in pancetta with a small salad and mash. Both were superb. We only managed on desert between us - a baked custard with plums and gingerbread - also superbThis is a cracking restaurant with a nice ambience in lively Stockbridge. Highly recommended
Amazing restaurant! Great for coeliacs / gluten free. They home make gluten free bread and it’s the best I’ve ever had - almost like a cake bread. We had the scallops, trout & steak for main and all of it was simply delicious! Lovely staff too.
Exceptional and delectable in every way. Bronte was our waitress and she took outstanding care of us. The venison was a gastronomic sensation as well. Every bite was exceptional and it was a true dining experience from start to finish. Thank you for the wonderful evening.
Nice dinner, quite polished. Service was OK, our server got distracted by a bigger party. Given the price and hype of being a top restaurant in Edinburgh I thought it was a bit overrated in my opinion.
Accompanying someone who is much more foodie than I am, we checked out this place for weekday lunch. Loved the area that it was in - lots of little independent shops, great vibe to this part of town.Service was notably excellent, knowledgeable and friendly. Suggestions were offered with experience behind the reasoning. Although I would classify this place as upscale pub, it still had a casual aura to it.Interestingly enough I found our starters to be much more tasty than our mains. I found most of the main dishes fell flat or were on the bland side. The local draft beer, some I had never even heard of, made the meal that much better.Overall a nice experience. Perhaps we chose the wrong mains, but I would still return here to try other dishes. Enjoyed the place in general.
Scottish gastropub showcasing fresh seasonal Scottish produce, good quality cooking and great service. Love coming here before or after the botanical gardens.Must try: fish pie, steak pie, perfectly cooked game if it’s in season (free shot if you find shot)
First time Ive ever been there. A friend of the family who lives in Edinburgh booked it as a special treat and I certainly wasnt disappointed. The meal was just beautiful and most enjoyable. We even saw the man himself ie Tom Kitchin was in the restaurant talking with friends and that was the icing on the cake as they say as Ive only seen him on TV.
This place is wonderful. My wife and I each had a burger and a beer. It was so tasty. The atmosphere of the restaurant was very laid back and relaxing. A great place to grab a lunch. The waitstaff were incredibly friendly and helpful!
Amazing food. Just so good. The pie, the cep mushroom sourdough toast starter, everything speaks of high quality. The service was also excellent.
What a beautiful evening! From the second we arrived we were met with beautiful service particularly from our server Will, what a gentleman. The food was beautiful, we had the steak and the steak pie, scallops and haggis, not a foot wrong in terms of flavour and presentation. We were attended to in appropriate time and really enjoyed our experience. Thank you will for being a lovely person to chat with and for being so attentive and good at your job! A must do for anyone visiting or who lives in Edinburgh
A great experience, great food, from the bread to the draft cider or the venison. You absolutly have to try the toffee pudding with pecans nuts, its delicious. The staff is also very nice and helpfull.
Delicious food, excellent service. Haggis, curry & cod is a must order!
I ordered the steak pie. Now I’m a steak pie expert… I’ve eaten these things ALL OVER THE WORLD, not just the length and breadth of Britain… I know a GREAT steak pie when I get one… AND THIS MOST CERTAINLY WAS ONE OF THEM. 10/10 would steak pie again.
First visit....nice, but...we found the food to be bland. Not seasoned very well, quite underwhelming. Cooked well, but did not fulfill our expectations of a restaurant so highly recommended. We are both trained chefs, and this experience has tainted our view on eating out.We went as a birthday treat for my son, and we had no idea there was a play area for him! Would have been usefull to know about given hes only 3 and struggles to sit still and focus for any length of time. The chefs made my son grilled chicken, as he doesnt like battered or breaded food. So for that, im thankfull.
Truly amazing food! And certainly the best staff in Edinburgh! Cant recommend this place enough! Made out UK trip!!
Lovely meal from the Scran and Scallie on a Friday night to celebrate our little boys birthday. Very friendly service and welcoming to children. The service was good and plenty of options on the menu. The food we had was good however the prices were a bit over the top. I had ham egg and chips which was good bit my partners pie, while tasty was under filled. For close to 20 quid this isnt the best. Wouldnt rush to return but still a nice meal.
This was fantastic; the food was delicious, the staff were very friendly and accommodating and the restaurant has a great atmosphere. Would definitely recommend the gnocchi. Not loads of vegetarian options, but all of them are very good. Some gluten free options and excellent gluten free bread, but might struggle with veggie/vegan gluten free
Great food and a really nice casual environment. The steak pie was outstanding and definitely a must try. The scallop appetizer was also very tasty. The laid back environment was refreshing after a long day of being outside in the heat!
This is a nice place to go if you are around in Edinburgh, but IMO a somewhat expensive one as well for what it offers. The food is well-prepared, and you can see that the product is of good quality, however, what I couldnt appreciate is the modern twist they promise to their plates. The service was great and helpful, the ambience was great too, and the restrooms were very clean.
We ate at the Scran and Scallie during a recent visit to Edinburgh and had a wonderful meal. The food is wonderful - an elevated, gourmet take on some classic pub favorites, with other unique dishes mixed in. We sat at a window table and had a thoroughly pleasant Sunday lunch.
Amazing food (will miss this lobster!), friendly and unobtrusive service, a nice selection of whiskey and - as a bonus - a well-designed kids room. Loved that place!PS: “Do you think t’s OK to order a cocktail for lunch?” - “Of course! it’s always 5 o’clock somewhere”
Outstanding service, as the staff are knowledgeable about the items on the menu and what whisky to pair them with. The food is not unreasonably priced, and worth every penny. Got oysters, scallops, and lobster, and they were all excellent. The scallops, in particular, were the best I had in recent memory.Definitely worth dropping by if youre in Edinburgh.
The menu is a little kitschy, but the food is delicious and the staff is warm and attentive. Good cocktails, too! It’s a lovely, happy spot.
Great place with amazing vibe. The Haggis was really good and the fish was perfect.Although the ribeye was great, it looked a bit sad on the plate and drowned in pepper sauce.
Absolutely delicious! Make a reservation now if you have not yet. Highly recommended.Staff is very welcoming and helpful. Will be back soon!
We are visiting Edinborough from the US and for a few days had read about The Scran and Scallie and it didn’t disappoint. Great service and food. We enjoyed the steak pie, fish & chips, and wagyu burger as well as the beetroot starter. Definitely make a reservation and don’t miss this place.
Incredibly welcoming staff and delicious food! If you have a food allergy, they are extremely helpful. Had the best gluten-free fish and chips in a while! Cant wait to come back.
First time here with my wife and daughter who had both visited before. Excellent food, steak pie, fish pie and ham egg and chips. Not the cheapest and didnt like having to pay for sides such as mashed potato and broccoli. This said, quality was superb. Excellent range of drinks, had a really nice pint of IPA. Great service. No actual parking, have to park on the street. Very popular restaurant, have to book well in advance, we visited on a Friday evening and two weeks before there was limited times available. Recommended.
Absolutely incredible proper Scottish restaurant with real Scottish produce. Food was amazing as were the drink selections. I had oysters, pork belly and sticky toffee pudding. All delicious. Could not recommend more. Staff were also very friendly and attentive without hovering.
Food was good. The service quality quite varying. While a waitress clearly tried to give us the best time there, her co-worker left a bad taste, literally slamming the plates on the table. Felt like there were some bad vibes behind the scene.
Great service and great food. The Haggis is a hearty and satisfying sheep falafel with crisps and mashed turnips. Recommended.
Extremely disappointing. Service was poor & unfriendly, portions were laughable for the price & the menu was uninspired.Overall very pretentious & overrated, ESPECIALLY for the price. Would not eat here again, plenty of better choices in Edinburgh to spend your hard earned money on.
My fiancé surprised me with an early birthday meal here and it was really fantastic. Food was very good quality and very well thought out. Brilliant cocktails and even the kids meals were amazing.Thats what made it extra special for us; it was extremely child friendly(even has a wee play kitchen for the kids and some toysand the team there couldnt have been any nicer to them. Our waitress was especially good; didnt get her name but she was American and so lovely!! Nothing was too much trouble and we will definitely be back the next time we are visiting Edinburgh!
Overpriced for what you get, and a slightly rushed atmosphere. I think there are better alternatives locally for the value offered. The staff were great however, very alert and attentive. Beer was good too.
This was the best pub grub Ive ever had, all of the food was incredible and the service was brilliant too. I cant recommend coming here enough
Food is excellent, although a bit on the pricey side. For the expense you get high quality ingredients in slightly experimental configurations. All the dishes we had worked and the portion sizes were just right. Service is attentive and swift. 5⭐
An Edinburgh culinary delight…outstanding in every way, setting, service, food and drink. The food was amazing, great knowledge from Alex (waiterto help with our choices…oysters, scallops, haggis, fish pie and steak pie were delicious!!Will be back on our next visit…thank you Scran & Scallie for making our wedding anniversary even more special
Fantastic experience..Waitress was totally amazing explaining every detail of the food on the menu to us and letting us know the specials..Will 100% return and highly recommend
Make a reservation now! Visiting on holiday and looked for a place to have dinner. We got so lucky with this one. The food was outstanding! We got the fish and chips and the meat pie. The fish and chips was haddock, very light and not greasy. The meat pie was the best I have ever had. The meat was so tender! Portions were very large. Wait staff was very friendly. We saw many turned away without a reservation, so definitely make a reservation.
Not perfect, still a very great meal. We had the pork belly which was special off-menu and fantastic - tender and juicy. And the steak pie was good - it’s just the pastry shell, which looked handsome, seems a bit flimsy to me. And we love the cocktails, the Lemon Pie Martini was a highlight. Everything of the meal was well-presented.
Great spot for a Sunday roast. Theres only once choice, which is beef, but I have never had a better cooked slice of roast beef.Id also recommend trying the haggis starter which is really tasty. Its better to book as it does fill up on a Sunday!
You wont be disappointed with the choice of food and the quality. Every item on the menu is like a party in your mouth. Freshly made and tasted fantastic. I had the scallops starter and the halibut, mussels and lentil main and was not disappointed. Wish I could have five plates of the scallops, it was that great.Ambience was great, staff were lovely and patient with our questions and requests. There are dishes of the day and some of us ordered a starter off of that. They are knowable with prices and portion sizes.Chef did a fantastic job with presentation, my photos using my mobile and lighting available in the venue does not do the dishes we had any justice, so make sure to check it out in person as each dish was fantastic!Limited number of tables and you can tell the place is popular as the restaurant side was packed. The pub side had musicians which was a nice surprise to walk past to get to our table.Prices are pricey but worth every penny for the quality and fresh ingredients used so perhaps book as a treat for special occasion or to surprise a lived one or for a company meal. Booking ahead is recommended to avoid disappointment. We are going back to work our way through the menu as we didnt get anywhere near the dessert menu unfortunately :)Drinks menu has a lot of choice, so something for everyone.Im always happy to support local businesses and I hope this one is around for many years to come when I can return for another event in Edinburgh.
Superb food, great service and a lovely venue. Definitely try out their specials - the hare cannelloni and breaded monkfish we’re beautiful
If a hearty gastropub meal is what you are after Scran and Scallie is perfect. They are dog friendly.Great variety of dishes. All tasted good. The steak pie was good however it wasn’t crusted on the sides or at the bottom!Service was great as was the vibe and the interior.Portion sizes were large (especially the risotto)Desserts were excellent too
Delicious steak pie and bangers and mash. We also enjoyed the sticky toffee pudding. Very nice ambience and friendly staff. Our favourite meal in Edinburgh.
Great food. Simply great food. Main courses were very tasty but the puddings were fabulous. My wife had the Lemon Souffle and I had Vanilla Cream with Raspberries. Stunning flavours. Great last night meal for our mini break in Edinburgh.
Excellent food, really friendly staff. It is a bit pricey but the set lunch is well priced.
Beautiful looking restaurant in a great part of town. Staff were efficient and friendly.Food was good but I felt it a little overpriced compared to other places I’d been and what you get.Overall was good and worth stopping off there if you’re in the area and nothing else takes your fancy.
We went for lunch on Monday and had the set menu for £19, really good value given the quality of the food, with a limited choice. The place was extremely busy but luckily we had booked, so might be a good idea to always book here. The food and drink was well served and we managed to finish in an hour and a half having parked the car just along the road. We enjoyed the scran strawberry lemonade. We were served tap water in a bottle by default and given bread and butter for us both. We had to wait between servings but it was very busy. Thoroughly enjoyed it and this will be a favourite.
