The Saffron Tree in Calcutta

Man...the name is apt saffron tree just the way we get the saffron portion on purchase with too much price...similar way you can expect the quantity of food here...big disappointment...I completely understand the pujo rush and the person who was managing the bookings was very polite and was doing his job excellent in managing the crowd...however they were not serving their standard menu and had only few items curated to manage the orders with prices differentiating from Zomato and on a higher side...from that menu I wanted to order maach aam papad starter but that became out of stock for 25 minutes 🤣 and the waited recommended JMBC dont know the full form so for me it is Jabardasti Menu mein Bhara hua Chicken not upto the mark at all and Thallasery Prawn Biryani which tasted okay but will be a shame if they know how actually Thalassery biryani tastes and lastly mocktail Fashion Flora was too much syrup...mood upsetting lunchGod, I read so much about presentation but the way food came to our table it was worse than street stall..Check out the photos

Such a nice recommendation from my friend. It was jam-packed with patrons, the decor was really cool and the Indian cuisine options are pocket friendly. I would highly recommend trying their mutton biryani. Its one of the best Ive had! Also their service was pretty fast considering we went during the thick of Pujo rush hours.

Visited on Ashtami, had to wait for 15 minutes,although they said 45 minutes.Even in the rush time of durga puja got good food.had chicken biryani, nizami murg and reshmi tikka.Reshmi tikka was greatNizami murg side dish was good.Biryani serving was extremely unprofessional and not expected from a restaurant like this. Seemed they just emptied a plastic box on the plateoverall great place during non rush hours.

Tried out their mutton biriyani which was tasty. Good food and good staff. Ambience is also great 👍

Excellent fusion food. Good decor. Sufficient dining space. Paid parking available on the lane in front of the resto. The appetisers are to drool for. Personal recommendations are JBMC and Machli Aam Papad. The pork biriyani is also good one in the main course. The chicken and mutton side dishes are so so. Ask for recommendations from the staff and your taste buds will have a gala time.

Located Near Deshapriya Park. Although the walking distance is 12-15 minutes. Location was good not so hard to find. The food was good. Specially the Starter. Just loved is. The way they serve the food is mind blowing. Liked the ambience also. Staff behavior is also very good and helpful too. Will Visit again.

The food here was exquisite and cooked to perfection. A little on the expensive side but totally worth it. The ambience was perfect with mild music. Would love to recommend the different types of uncommon breads that are available here. They are as soft as they are delicate and tasty as well. Have drinking options as well, although we didnt try any though. Overall, its a 5/5 place, definitely one I would like to revisit.P. S. - Just one personal drawback I felt - They should have kept UPI payment option, that is unavailable, only cash or card payment.Otherwise its a great avenue for any occasion.P. S. 2 - Also, this place is a heaven for those who like to study the history of food. Their menu is a must read, where every item tells a story, with completely authentic sources and Bibliography as well. 😍😊

The restaurant is good, very spacious indoor, decor is nice. The response from stuff is very fast. Food quality is good but taste could be better.

Service is pethetic... waited for naan like hell... all the things served completely cold. Dont even bother to attend the customer for taking orders.... Its a big flop

More of a pub than a restaurant.The machhli aur aam papad ki kebab was the best one. But the other 2 specialities were not upto the mark. JMBC was a sizzler, but the sizzling was very short. And more over felt like expensive. Nimish, the dessert was served at normal temperature, not cold.

The Saffron Tree was in my shortlist for a long time, and I was finally able to visit it with my friend. If I was asked to describe the whole experience it would probably be outstanding.It is located in southern avenue and easily accessible from desopriyo park. Probably a 5min walk. There is also a wide road but whether patron parking is allowed i am not sure.Coming to the food, it was brilliant. We ordered JMBC, Khameeri roti and a side dish. Jmbc and khameeri roti is definitely a must try in my opinion. My friend resides in Germany and even he was impressed at the delectable food quality. We also had a cocktail as per staff recommendation but in my opinion always better to go with your own choices.The cost including the cocktail was just short of 2k. And food bill, comparing with other restaurants, was actually decent. Definitely wont burn a hole in your pocket.Recommending absolutely.

Went there for lunch. Ambience wise, the saffron tree is great. In terms of food weve ordered khameeri rotis, martaban murg and lucknowi dum biryani.Both khameeri roti and martaban murg were great but lucknowi dum biryani was slightly under seasoned, although it has two chicken pieces, aalo and egg and the price of the biriyani is 225rs only. So visit this place if you love mughlai dishes.

The decor was next level with soft music playing makes the ambience fall in love with, we just tried the starters, Fish Hing Nisha and Chicken Lahsuni Kebab.... Both the items was delicious most importantly we liked the presentation the way they serve the serving platters were unique in design.Overall a good experience we had.Keep up the good work😊

Ambience is really nice. Taste of food is average. But price is reasonable. Chicken Biriyani is awesome here according to quality, quantity and price.

An excellent restaurant for a better dine in experience. The quality of food is really good, also the menu has variety of different Mughlai dishes but of different regions. Food Portions could have been better, but the dishes were delicious and worth the price. If you are looking for a place for family gathering or friend reunion or even a date, Id recommend this place.

Pretty good food for a relatively less known restaurant. Loved the effort they put into the food decor and general aesthetics.The places wasnt full on a Sunday afternoon but staff were a bit slow. Still worth it due to the quality of the food. The drinks were good as well.Will definitely recommend this place to people. Do go for the JMBC starter.

Food was good but all items were little bit sweetish. Even we had told the staff to make spicy. The staff of this place was not very helpful as expected. They should be more respectful and responsive.

So, on Poila boishak, 15th April we went to Saffron tree, we had 1.aam papad and machhli ka kebab 2. JMBC - jama masjid butter chicken(basically a sizzler3. Lucknow Biriyani 4. Butter Nan 5. A mutton salaan 6. Melon surprise.....the starters were really nice, but i would really suggest to not have Biriyani here, we couldnt complete the Biriyani, as it was bizarre, the mutton salaan were very okay. If you want to try out food here go for the starters and their mocktails.

I ordered Hyderabadi biriyani and mixrice with 5 pic gravy chili chicken....these food was soooo good and biriyani smells like yummy 😋 wanna go there one more time...

JMBC is best chicken starter dish, the fish starter with mango flavour is also nice. Loved the menu of tawa rotis. Will try biriyani next time. Paneer starter was also good. Serving time on Sunday is on the higher side. Ambiance is good. Drinks menu is also pretty decent (slightly expensive)

Each and every cuisine is best. I visited 3 times. And each and every time , I love the foods quality and the behaviour of the staffs is also good..

A restaurant that serves a unique menu without punching a hole in your pocket or compromising in quality! Id like to visit again just to try all the starters in their menu, thats how good the ones I tasted were!

Well a perfect weekend gateway just is not completed by food only but also the quality and the ambience you are provided with it.And saffron tree provided just the right amount of everything to make me go back there again.Be it the historically rich (yeah you read it rightmenu or the exquisite taste of each dishes, snatches a 100 in each area.Not gonna name every dish on the menu or gonna post every dish that I had. But here are some worthy ones you should definitely try out.1. Malai murg ki Gillori (Best suited along with Naan or Paratha dishes)2. Kataifi Achari Prawns (The speciality starter and 10/10 to try)3. Baristah-e-Murg (Another must try chicken dish -on sweeter side)4. Martaban ki Murg (Got a very earthy taste to meat, something to experience surely)5. Lucknowi Dum Biriyani ( Rice - 4/5 Meat- 4/5 Potato-5/5 Taste-4.5/5)6. In mocktails definitely Hajmola Cocktails(spicyand Tangy Mango (more on sweetside is top favourite.7. Bakarkhani and Luchai ka Paratha (Not in picture but worth the try)Definitely need some work on service time. Filler dishes are not provided between the long wait. Also some of the dishes e.g. Noor-e-Mahi (fish preparation in gravyfelt less marinated, as the spices were not mixed well in the fish.

The Saffron Tree serves one of the best mughalai cuisine in the town. Their presentation of dishes is unique which provides a lot of material for social media posts 😉. The dessert i.e. Nimish we had tried also leaves you wanting for more. Plus nice ambience. Highly recommended.

Great place, from decoration it seems to be a very high priced place but actually its reasonably priced and not that costly. There are lot of unique and experimental dishes. The presentation of the dishes are soo good. The staffs are also very well trained. It can be a great place to enjoy dinner with your family. The position of the resturant makes it a hidden away gem. Hope they do more promotions in zomato or otherwise.

Decor is good. Service is great. The mughlai menu looks amazing. However, the food was a letdown. :/First off, the Pork Belly Nehari that was served to me had funny taste to it; Felt stale ngl.The Orange and Sun-dried Tomato Chicken Tikka seemed like an interesting pick but the orange was the only flavour that I could taste (Chicken was cooked well tho. Such a shame)Both the starches I opted were good.Pork Biryani was a first for me... And I liked it.And the bakarkhani brought back Ramadan memories.But the only thing that I can truly recommend would be the dessert.(Nimish was saffron flavoured and the taste felt like there was pistachio paste in it. It was nice and would go great with some crumb or cookie)Overall I feel like I had too high expectations from the place but Im sure they can make improvements in the future.P.S. The paper cup that is served for the water makes no sense as everything else is served in non disposable crockery and cutlery.

Ambience and interiors are quite fantastic. Nice family friendly atmosphere. Prices are are also very budget friendly. As per dishes 1- lucknowi dum biriyani : 3/5 (the piece of the mutton specially was not that soft and juicy Rather small not upto the mark2- butter Naan: 5/5, 3- martaban ki murg :5/5 , 4- phirni: 4/5.

Ambience is very good. Cosy atmosphere. Price of alcoholic drinks is very high though. Thats why one star less. Otherwise all good. Food is tasty.

The taste is excellent and the quality of the meat is also delicate. Try the fusion kebabs on the menu and different side dishes. Specially that Martabani murgh.And after all this you have to try the dessert "Nimish" I was so pleased to taste it. Its a speciality of this restaurant. And yes do ask for their special recommendations if you really want to care about the cuisines.

After a long break me and friends thought of hanging out by having lunch at this place. It was birthday of one of my friend also and hence was a reason to celebrate. This place very easy to reach by your personal caror any cab service.At a first glance that I entered I was seriously amused by the awesome interior this place has. The graffiti at the outer wall is beautiful. I am a huge mug fan and after entering the main gate I can see mugs of different solid colours hanging from the roof which made me go crazy. The paintings tables chairs were simply awesome. Lovely place to have a great photoshoot i suppose. There was a subtle music playing in the background which just holds on to the whole ambience.Coming to the food we ordered:-1. Aam papad machli kabab2. Murgh Boti Lehsuni3. Lucknowi Dum Biryani4. Martamani MurghEach and every item was just heaven to taste. They are unique and this taste will not be familiar to any other place. I would highly recommend all these to be tasted.Last but not the least during hosting us the people at that place were not so friendly. We were not allowed to lit up a candle for our friends birthday celebration and at last were constantly being poked to clear the table as others were waiting, inspite of the fact that others tables were vacant at that time. Other wise i would have given the a 5 star.

Ambience is nice. Food presentation is also quite interesting. Food quality and taste is at par with any 3-4 star restaurant. Budget friendly despite serving drinks. The Saffron Tree is the child restaurant of Spice Craft. They have some authentic Mughal delicacies which will surely burst of flavours on your palate. We tried Machhli Aam Papad ki Kebab, J.M.B.C, Kataifi Achari Prawn, Kothambir Paneer, Pork Biryani, Lucknow Mutton dum Biryani, Chaman ki Ghost, Nimish in dessert.

Excellent starter simply awsome. Biriyani was also good just a little salty. Dessert was exceptionally good.

Saffron Tree is an awesome restaurant. The ambience & food are so special that these two things made this restaurant different than other restaurants. Just go and enjoy the atmosphere and sumptuous food at Saffron Tree.
