The Roost - Coffee shop in Oamaru, New Zealand
The Roost in Oamaru
Description
Privilege
Great cheese rolls and not cooked in a sandwich press. In oven so nice and hot and crispy, just like a good southland cheese roll.
MoreNice cup of hot chocolate
Appalling. Coffee was awful. They have a proper coffee machine there but we didnt hear it being used and I swear what we were served was Kona coffee or something equally bland. They forgot my partners coffee. They forgot one diners lunch order. They served "chicken nuggets and chips" with four (4!nuggets. The cost was high. The tables were dirty. I had to go and ask for cutlery so my son could eat his meal. And lastly, the food was badly prepared (overcooked and dry chickenand slow to arrive.Dont mind paying more for a good product. This was way worse than average.
MoreSeemed to be only one person attempting to run this place on her own. Nearly an hours wait for a very basic meal - obviously not enough staffing - may be better under more normal circumstances
MoreVery sweet coffee
Beautiful breakfast this morning. Short staffed, lots of customers but got the job done.
MoreIt took over 45 minutes to bring two cups of coffee, a pie and a toastie. Our 20 minute planned stop lasted over an hour. There were only 4 other diners there at the time.
MoreNice cafe, visiting from the states on vacay. I recommend anyone visiting from overseas to come to the roost. 🤙🏾
MoreI had not been there for a few years since I used to go regularly. The food I ordered was less than what I previously could get and had no garnishes etc. Meagre selection of cabinet food. However, I think they were probably short staffed etc.
MoreLovely coffee and nice scone with jam and cream
Very week tea, slow service, bacon and tomato toasted had maybe 4 very thinly sliced tomato pieces and all at the front with nothing at the back of the sandwich
MoreGreat customer service and yum food n coffee
Very nice coffee and friendly locals
Visited a year ago and had really good muesli and fresh seasonal fruit. Was looking forward to same but theyd had a busy weekend and had run out of muesli. Had adequate poached eggs and bacon. Not well presented. Very basic fair.
MoreExcellent for lunch. Lovely people and good food at reasonable prices
Cold bacon, frugal portions, took 40 minutes to get coffee on a not so busy morning. Things differed from the menu, girlfriend got dry waffles with cane sugar syrup when menu advertised maple syrup...expensive disapointment.
MoreGreat coffee, large cups are enormous! Really good food and great staff
We came here for an early morning coffee and scone, staff were friendly and happy to open up when we arrived a few minutes before opening. The frittata was a touch expensive, but it was delicious and filled me up. Coffee was good, perfect temperature, your classic cafe coffee. I will be back here in the future, thanks The Roost!
MoreInside was beautiful, service great, coffee... Yum! However we went and sat at table outside at the back...- dirty- bird poo galore- shade sail FILTHY- some plants would brighten it up- area DESPERATELY needs weeding/tidying- overall, it was horrible!- I was there on a coffee date and the chap WAS NOT IMPRESSED!!!
Morevisited in a busy time. I wanted to have here, but it was almost time to go, so I had no choice to change it to take away. Its a pity that I used disposable cup, but its a lovely place and nice coffee.
MoreThe food was nice enough but the Cafe was so horribly under staffed, we had to wait over an hour for our food (ordered at 12.20; food arrived at 1.35).Lots of love to the over worked staff. Whoever is in charge of rostering should be ashamed.
MoreProper hot coffee. Tasty savoury muffin and fresh sweet slice. Great service.
Wouldnt be recommending this place. I got the smoothie and cake, the cake had an unusual aftertaste and definitely did not meet the typical * friand* texture that would be expected. The smoothie wasnt nice either. This place always seems busy enough but Im not sure why people choose this place over the other options in Oamaru.
MoreCoffee was beautiful and so was all day breakfast but slow tho
Great food. Had to wait a while but definitely worth it. Best eggs bene ever!
Great coffee, friendly service and yummy food
Fantastic coffee..and the staff are very welcoming and have good service.
Very good coffee, much needed after the long drive from picton. They do a mean custard square too.
MoreGreat Sunday brunch. The staff are so chilled and very helpful with the wee ones. Making it an enjoyable experience to just relax and enjoy the food with great coffee.Weather a bit dusty in the morning or an arvo pick me up, this is the place to go.
MoreThis is only one coffee shop opened in the early Sunday morning near Brydone Hotel. We want to try something different and apparently it was a good choice. Benedict egg muffin is nice and my daughter was happy for her free fluffy and cake
MoreFood lovely however waited 50 mins for meal. Was busy to begin with... Told wait 20mins. One person on front counter making coffee and serving. Could have been a little more organised.
MoreThe Roost is such a good cafe, the staff are friendly every time, the food is nice and hearty and portions are generous. The waffles are so good.
MoreI had some amazing waffles for breakfast, which was delish! Beautiful coffee and a friendly chef, who came over for a little chat, as it was very quiet early in the morning. Looking forward to visit next time when in Oamaru.
MoreVery good value for money. Breakfast, lunch or a snack and the portions are great. Coffees are good and reasonably priced. The staff were friendly. The Roost will definitely see me again :-)
MoreThe eggs Benedict were delicious and the cappuccino came in the largest cup o have ever seen. Highly recommended.
MoreThe last place id order an all day breakfast! Took over 40mins to arrive, items were missing off the plate and inconsistencies around the table. Food was only warm when it come out and we were served by a server with socks that said‘’ tell someone who gives a F### ‘’. Very disappointed 😔
MoreFood was great lovely building but lacked character. The place needs a lift to attract more customers. Friendly staff
MoreLunch with family. Omelette & burger had by us. Great taste & quality. Excellent portion sizes & value for money. Good decor & comfortable seats. Friendly & efficient staff. Recommend.
MoreLovely atmosphere. Friendly staff. Yummy food. Reasonable price.
Ordered the Waffles with Banana and Bacon and if I would have to guess id say that the sugar waffles were store bought and topped up with Banana and Bacon. The waffles were cold, dry and didnt tasted like much.....Cant help it to feel like Ive been ripped off when they charge $20 for it.Go through Oamaru frequently but definitely wont be going back here.
MoreNice and cosy cafe for a drink and snack.
Really cute little place, coffee was very nice too which I took to go - with a shot of caramel...its my thing. Handy for us at the time due to the very early opening time which was great. Nice and tidy with outdoor seating at the front and back. Great if you have little ones or just want a nice quiet spot for a hot drink. Only disappointment is 2 x friends I was both bought a muffin from the shop and seperate times on the same day, and both were quite disappointed commenting the taste wasnt that great and they didnt seem very fresh, one of them saying there muffin felt like it had been frozen but not properly defrosted (or offered to heat up)..and on a cold morning was less than ideal, so that was a shame to hear.
MoreWere there for Jazz fest. Food was good but atmosphere was slightly cool-needs a bit more texture to soften the hard surfaces and echo acoustics.
MoreThe staff were lovely and efficient, coffees were good, they could have been a little hotter but had good flavour. We had a couple of big breakfasts, Eggs on toast and a bacon butty, all the food was cooked perfectly and the servings were very generous - Good value for Money
MoreI love this cosey little nook. Their coffees are the best in town and i have always enjoyed my order from the display cabinet. Great atmosphere and service.
MoreThe coffee here is very good. The food choice in the cabinet is okay - for a hungry visitor. Staff regularly seem a little reserved here, but my latest visit at the beginning of June has some really friendly staff on, and I wasn’t made to feel like a stranger.
MoreFoods yum! Carrot cake and icing is spot on! Coffee is good for Oamaru - but in general, the milk is heated too quickly or too much - not quite burned, but very thin.. hmmm... quite drinkable though!! And they do small-bowl sized cups - Awesome!
MoreNice place to have breakfast in this quiet town. The food is pretty descent and the interior deco of the cafe is quite modern yet cozy.
MoreMy daughter loves their Macroni cheese. We had a nice chat at the Roost and the arrangement of sitting table make you feel that you are able to have a private conversation with some good coffees.
MoreA simple cafe which produces excellent coffee and breakfast. The pancakes were light and fluffy with lots of banana, walnuts and caramel sauce. The poached eggs were perfectly cooked and the bacon rashes were just right. Egg yolks were thick and deep yellow - fresh and grass fed.We would go back just for the pancakes. Black coffee was served with hot water on the side without asking. The Roost provided the best breakfast we have had in 12 days in NZ.
