Contemporary locale serving artfully designed Thai & Asian dishes with a separate gluten-free menu.
Came to pick up uber eats order but restaraunt closed by health dept for multiple violations. Avoid at all costs
This place has gone down rapidly. I called the rice barn to put an order. The person who answered yelled loud “Go fast, I’m busy” and hung-up… I was shocked to hear that so called again just to make sure I didn’t call the wrong place… and heard it again “Go fast, I’m Busy” in the rudest way… as I started to order he hung-up again. This is totally unacceptable, and it looks like the owner wants to lose his business. He lost me as a customer for sure!
Really disappointed. Lunch boxes here are a joke. Its clear that this is a Chinese restaurant pretending to do fusion to set premium prices. I ordered a couple of different lunch boxes and they all tasted the same: too salty and ridiculously small when they are charging $17/box. I would post a pic of my vomit if I could 🤢. Rich Barn, you need to fire your chef ❌
Had a great meal, lovely music, kind and knowledgeable waitress. We will be returning.
This is authentic Thai at its very best. The tom kha, green curry and pad thai were exactly as they should be. I cant wait to go back and try everything else. The owner Charles is an incredible artist and creates an original Picasso-esque drawing on every to go or doggy bag. If youre lucky you might even catch a story or two.
one hour and 20 minutes to deliver, I normally wouldnt complain but this is the second time we have ordered from here with about the same service. spent over $50 plus $8 dollar tip. When I called an hour after the order was given, the man on the phone asked the kitchen about my order, I heard the kitchen yell back Ill get it on after this order, this message to me was Im "packing it up right now" Food was substandard, honestly will not give them a third chance.
The best experience. I came with a group of friends and the staff was so friendly and accommodating. It has a great family environment; Id rate the experience 5 stars just because of the staff, but the food was also phenomenal (I love Thai food in general but the food was amazing). Highly highly recommend!!
Great food, pad see ew was delicious! Owner was very nice as well. Definitely recommend
Better to avoid... The guy at the restaurant is very arrogant and threw my food packet away when i asked why there is no one responded when I was waiting at the entrance and ringing the bell for 15 minutes.. Seems he is not interested in maintaining any customers and shows careless attitude. On the food quality, its totally bland and the fried rice that i ordered was totally fried and rubbery.. Chicken was very hard to chew and looked not fresh at all.. Totally dissatisfied and wanted to give zero stars for both food quality and customer service...
Honestly, it was great a few years back, my favorite thai place. Then suddenly either ownership or something like that changed, and now I have tried many times, and the food is always flavorless. They even managed to make a yellow curry flavorless, I had to go into my pantry and figure out a way to add flavor. Every time I order, I hope that this time will be different but I think its time to give up... Very disappointed
Very very rude staff. Stopped in to place a to-go order and the man was not friendly at all, didn’t want to help me, and then got a phone call and the second his phone started ringing he cursed and screamed and angrily threw what he was holding. He then proceeded to answer the phone while I was talking to him. Needless to say, I left and didn’t place an order here and will never be back again.
Yet another hidden gem right in Needham. Extensive menu with Thai and Chinese options (from Pad Thai and Cashew Chicken to Peking Duck Wraps...). Excellent food and great portions.
I’m very disappointed. This place used to be great but all the food is not flavorful, the duck sauce is watered down, the spring rolls are stale.... they need to freshen up and buy better quality food or change the chef or else they won’t last last....
Great food, and excellent service! I had to go out, and Im glad I found this place along the way.
I was there today for a business lunch and observed many mouse droppings around the dining room especially on the white window ledge. I called the health department and was told this restaurant if under constant inspection because of a number of issues and they have been ordered to hire an outside company to correct their repeated problems.
Just WOW, the taste is right on the marks. The owner is also very pleasant to meet. It was our very first time there. The decor had a very nice personalized touch. The food was great and waiter & staff were very attentive. We really enjoyed our dinner there. If you havent already, give it a try you wont be disappointed!
Unfortunately, there is no option to give zero stars. This place should be shut down. We had a 6:30pm reservation, but when we arrived they had no record of it. That should have been our first clue. Since the place wasn’t busy we easily got seated anyway. Then we had to ask for menus and wait 15 minutes to get them, and it was almost impossible to find out server to put in our order. About forty five minutes after ordering, all of us with empty water glasses, the wine and appetizers have yet to arrive, we decide to find our server (who we have not seen since ordering). She tells us she will check on our order and....nothing...2 hours after sitting down at our table we got up and left...one of several tables of customers to do so. It was a complete disaster. The people working there should not be in the hospitality industry.
I simply liked their food. I always get fantastic service here. The place is always clean and the staff members are always very kind. Keep up the good work.
The food is usually good but tonight the kitchen was extremely slow and we received our food cold. Waitstaff was slim and overwhelmed for the crowd.
We called up and ordered our food, and they said it would be ready in 35 minutes. After an hour and 15 minutes of waiting went by, we got the food, and it was missing a dish. The food is good, but the service ruins the resturant.
The menu is inaccurate. While the food is decent, I find it unacceptable to have dishes on the menu with specific descriptions that when served the dishes do not follow that description. If I wanted something random I wouldn’t have ordered a specific dish. When I order a red curry I don’t expect to be served the yellow curry, with avocado instead of lychee. Similar things happened to my family members. Further more, my Thai tea was more milk than tea. I watched the bartender make it and since she ran out of pre-made tea she just compensated with more milk and ice.
I heard there was a change in management last year. The last few times I have been here the service has been incredibly slow and the taste is not the same. Sad this was my favorite Thai restaurant. Guess I will have to drive to Norwood to Thai Thani or into Boston to the Brown sugar Cafe
Food here is usually good but tonight the service is so ridiculously slow. People are walking out and we have been waiting an hour for our food. The waitresses are clearly frustrated, the customers are complaining, but alas we are still waiting and management does not seem to care. Our waitress told us there is only one cook on appetizers and one on meals 😮What happened to this great restaurant?. Taking our business elsewhere in the future.
It saddens me to give a terrible review but the service tonight was absolutely horrific. Someone who knows how to manage the kitchen is desperately needed.
Delicious food , the atmosphere of the restaurant is very nice and enjoyable to eat! Service is great and it makes you come back again and again!
Avocado mango salad w chicken...really good. Unique on a menu. Everything ripe, ample. Good service. Fine noon mid-week lunch w some work conversation. (Neither here nor there for restaurant, but @Needham...your traffic lights are ridiculously long by any standard or comparison, esp w no right turn on red option.)
Ripped off at the Rice Barn. Paid $16 for a terrible pad Thai with cheap ingredients. Noodles were oily and tofu had clearly been frozen.
Very disappointed. The food is usually good here. Ordered the Tom Yum soup and the fried rice lunch special with chicken. The soup was overly salted, the rice was over cooked, the chicken was tasteless, and there were no veggies in the rice except for a few tomatos. Too bad.
Came with a group on a very busy day-- they only had one server working but the food came out quickly and we were well waited on even though it was so busy. The food is reasonably priced and delicious for the most part-- I had the Japanese lunch box; the gyoza was delicious however the panko crusted chicken could have been a little less dry/burnt. Otherwise, I really enjoyed my meal!
Worst service known to mankind. 4 parties were waiting for food. 3 of us walked out after standing for an hour with a manager who was incompetent, unwilling to even compensate for time. Horrendous.
Great food, good ambiance and wonderful service. Choices were also plentiful, though I wish they had thai iced coffee
A cute little Thai spot in Needham, MA. Has a full liquor license. Entrees sat between 14-30 dollars, with most averaging around 18. I got the cashew chicken, which came with the pictured rice pyramid. Presentation was nice, food was delicious, and everyone enjoyed their meals. A bit dark in the bar area, but no complaints otherwise.
Nice variety in choice of sauce, not so much in the veggie dept. People have always been great and service prompt. Will try an unusual dish next time and change review if appropriate after
This is our go to place for gourmet thai food. New management, new staff, new cook. Food has gone down from a 10 to a 1. All food we ordered was cooked differently, eggplant still hard, wild boar sauce not the same. Will never go back again.
I thoroughly enjoyed my meal at The Rice Barn!! I had the Pad-C-U which is my go to for thai food and it did not disappoint. The tofu was crispy and delicious, there were plenty of vegetables, and the noodles were perfect! I requested the dish medium as it it not typically made with any heat and it was the perfect level of spicyness for my liking. My friend and I had the spring rolls which were also delicious in addition to the Red Curry with tofu. The only reason they lost a star is due to the fact that they did not have the majority of their desserts the night we were there. We were eying the fried banana and ice cream but unfortunately they were out.
Extensive, delicious Thai menu. Uncrowded, attentive service. White tablecloths and understated decor make it a little more elegant than a typical Thai restaurant.
Love this place. Quick and friendly service. Good variety in the menu. And most importantly, tasty food. Had a few different meals, never a bad dish.
Great, quality Tai dining with a very friendly staff. The manger Paul is very customer focused as is the staff at the tables and in the separate bar area. Many regulars, as the dishes are healthy, with a light, clean taste and they have delicious, gluten free dishes if youd like that. Flower Cups are a great, light appetizer and from spicy to light, we always find something consistently delicious.
Service was bad. Waited 15minutes before we could order. Had to ask for water. One meal came out after a total of 45 minutes since arriving. Second meal didnt come out until I demanded that it be served or canceled. Food was good but there are lots of places where you can eat without aggravation.
Fantastic food for a reasonable price! The restaurant is always clean and not too loud and the service is excellent. Theres plenty of free lot parking around back if you dont like street parking. We always get the chicken red curry, pad Thai, pineapple fried rice, and the spicy basil noodles. This has always been a go-to for us, especially because of its extensive array of gluten free options.
We walked in the staff just looked at us like we were lost people looking for directions. They sat us down and just kept passing by us until we called somebody that is after 10 minutes! Imagine there were only 13 people in the restaurant. The food was okay though!
My husband and I were there for dinner Saturday night. Wonderful!! Excellent! Delicious! We planned to go back today for take out. The website says they are open today from 11:30 a.m. until 9 p.m. Nobody answered the phone, so I drove over to place my order, only to find the restaurant CLOSED. Very disappointing. Wish Rice Barn web site had accurate information. Real bummer.
Ive been here for lunch a few times now and its always great. They have a huge menu with so many choices. The space is set up well and its nice inside. I would definitely come back.
All my prior visit would have earned at least four stars, but things werent up to par this Sunday night. Apparently, staffing is the weakest on Sundays, so opt for other days if you can.
Came for dinner, prices are reasonable, service is classic Asian waiter but didnt have any problems. The food was delicious and they accommodate quite well for your preferences. Also they handle big groups and young ones well. My only caveat is it smelled a lil weird in the entrance.
Came here at 1:30 for lunch and we were seated right away. Service was very fast and the food was tasty. Prices were reasonable.
Enjoyed the variety in the menu including plenty of vegetarian options. Service was great and serving sizes were adequate. Located in the center of Needham.
Sorry Rice Barn, your inattentive service and less than stellar "Asian fusion" dont make me crazy for you. Sorry lovers of Rice Barn, you just dont know Thai food like I do.The food is decent and will satisfy that fix for an Asian meal. Enjoy a decent meal just come with realistic expectations.
Yummy food and great decor. Slightly more upscale than your typical Asian restaurant, with more variety of dishes. Our dishes were flavorful and spicy, with great service as well.
AMAZING RESTAURANT!we go there a lot! Best thai food we haveever tasted, and weve traveled to over 15 countries (sadly, not thailand). You cant miss out! Delicious! nice atmosphere! great service!
