You may experience a colonial era environment out there with lots of old buildings.A place for romantic couples. 🤩🤩Must to visit.
Great place to witness The First War of Independence.. Revolt of 1857. Inside the Residency one can see the Bailley Gaurd Gate as entrance gate and pls prefer travelling in ACW direction to cover every corner in a sequential manner. You will see the Banquet Hall, Treasury Building, Museum (must go), Mosque & Imambara etc. Overall you can enjoy the place and learn about multiple prominent figures who played the important role in torching the revolution 1857.
British construction has always been fascinating and this place has a lot of historical tales to share. The ruins looks picturesque and the wide open spaces are refreshing with the peaceful chirping sounds of the birds around. It was not too crowded when I went here and the place was fairly well maintained in terms of cleanliness. Good place to hangout and do some photoshoots.Significance: -The Residency, also called as the British Residency and Residency Complex, is a group of several buildings in a common precinct in the city of Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India. It served as the residence for the British Resident General who was a representative in the court of the Nawab.Quiet place and also good to visit. Entry ticket 10 rupees and the museum cost is also somewhat 10 or 20 .Try to clean the campus and clean and enjoy the essence of history.
It was quite and not over crowded like other monuments of agra. Its located opposite court so parking is an issue. There is mesuam show casing first revolution war heros photographs and stories. Other facilities are available. Garden is well maintained. 25 Rupees is the ticket.
Beautiful place to visit 😍. Museum is also good. History of the Residency and Lucknow is detailed in it .Its Green Campus is beautiful 😍❤️.
Historical place giving insight where Britishers use to live and the building still holds marks of gunshots and cannons which was back then attacked by our freedom fighters.
Really great spot to visit on a pleasant day. Huge campus area you can cover while walking for an hour or so. The ruined buildings that were a site of one of the first indian revolts against the british are worth pondering upon. There is also a museum inside with paintings and artifacts. Well maintained as well
Serene atmosphere with Lush green lawns. A very well maintained old ruins.
A well maintained historical location with ruins and artefacts from the war of 1857. Lots of sights to see and learn about the past conflicts.
Situated on the southern part of Gomti River, the Residency was constructed for the British residents in 1775. Stretching over an area of thirty three acres of land along the river side this is an exclusive property with a range of houses, where though the northern side building was referred as Residency earlier, but after the battle of 1857, all the houses were together termed as The Residency.
Nice place for history lover.. important Indian history related to 1857 movement, still present there..
I think this place is okayish, the only thing which is really interesting in this residency is graveyard 🪦. But still the grass near graveyard is so wild n big my friend almost fell. The entry ticket 🎟️ for this place is 25rs for Indians. You mostly found couples here hanging around may be because not so many people come here. Vist this place only when you want to walk a lot and see these old ruin buildings also try to come here when the weather is neutral.
Its really a must visit. You just feel that era by seeing this. Very beautifully maintained till now. Clean and nice maintenance done.A worthy watch in Lucknow
A place well maintained. You will find yourself between old trees, birds, squirrels and ruins. But before you make any plans, remember to read all the timings or you may lose the opportunity to discover the place fully.
Nothing much to see here. This place contains empty buildings and great lawns. Ticket for enterance costs 25Rs. They have a paid parking available and charges for that was 20Rs.Best time to visit here will be on evening. Since there are no sun shades (only treesthis place becomes pretty hot. They have toilets which were neat n clean.
We are not taking too much picture so we dont have more pictures ...If you want to know about architecture and history then you definitely visit.Overall it very good for people who have interest to know about history.....
If you want to look back in history, it is a good place to visit. Govt. Of India is taking care to maintain the place. Do not forget to visit the museum.
Construction started in 1775 & got completed in 1800 AD.Total area 33 acres.Residency was attacked by freedom fighters in 1857 k/a Lucknow siege, attack went for 87 days. Extensive damage resulted after attack. Ruins are evident on doors, windows, roofs and everywhere.Various buildings such as Banquet hall, treasury, school, hospital, post office, mosque etc are the part of the residency.Main attractions are Bailley Guard gate, treasure house, Dr Fayrers house, Imambara, Begum kothi, museum and main building.
Open from 8 A.M onwards this is one of the most famous monuments of Lucknow & entry fee is ₹25 per Indian adult. The site is well paved so persons of reduced mobility can easily access it too.Theres a restroom within the complex and you can take your time appreciating how Mughal era technologies of the Lakhauri bricks were used by the British to construct the Residency and why it survived months of bombardment.Head early to beat the tourists & the many couples canoodling around.
History of indian culture, life, kings. Not very well maintained. But nice ambiance. Guide needed.
Very calm & peaceful place. Even though most of the buildings are now just ruins it still gives us a peek in history. They have done a good job with the maintenance & landscaping, but some visitors have ruined the buildings by making drawings, also its become more of a couples makeout point than a historical/archaeological site.

Wonderful architecture place. Takes back you to 1857 revolt with its museum and signs of revolt.
No one who visits Lucknow should fail to visit this place. It’s the site of the 1857 First War of Independence when Indians and British clashed in bloody conflict resulting in horrific fatalities on both sides. Buildings have been left as they were after the conflict providing a poignant memory of the battle. Although the site is sizeable, well maintained pathways render it easily walkable. There’s so much to see, so much to absorb and think about. The green spaces are well maintained, staff are pleasant and efficient. A sad and evocative moment in history lingers on long in the memory. A small museum is attached with very interesting exhibits and displays that echo the conflict. One could spend a whole day here and not fail to be wholly absorbed. Lucknow City Corporation ( or whichever body is responsible for the site should be congratulated on a job well done.
Memorial for first war against the British Raj, poses a lot of history. Not very popular amongst tourists, we found it quite empty in while we were there. The sounds of the bullets and cannons on walls can be very much felt while inside. Especially when inside the main building. The buildings have major damage over this long period of time. The government is trying to built or restore it back. There also seems to be a sound and light show in the evening. Overall its a place worth going, while in Lucknow.
Great Indian history of 1857 mutiny is revived. Small yet nicely preserved. Must see when visiting Lucknow.
Liked a lot... So peaceful place in the heart of Lucknow....must visit....car parking available... Easy to reach...

The Residency, also called as the British Residency and Residency Complex, is a group of several buildings in a common precinct in the city of Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India. It served as the residence for the British Resident General who was a representative in the court of the Nawab. The Residency is located in the heart of the city, in the vicinity of other monuments like Shaheed Smarak, Tehri Kothi and High Court Building.Construction started during the rule of Nawab Asaf-ud-Daulah and ended during the rule of Nawab Saadat Ali Khan II,[1] who was the fifth Nawab of the province of Awadh (British spelling Oudh). Construction took place between 1780 and 1800 AD.Between 1 July 1857 and 17 November 1857 the Residency was subject to the Siege of Lucknow, part of the Indian Rebellion of 1857. The Residency now exists as ruins. The Residency has been maintained as it was at the time of the final relief, and the shattered walls are still scarred by cannon shot. Ever since Indian Independence, little has changed. The ruined building is now surrounded by lawns and flowerbeds and serves as a tourist attraction. The cemetery at the nearby ruined church has the graves of 2,000 men, women and children, including that of Sir Henry Montgomery Lawrence who died during the siege.Once the residence for the British Resident General and now a popular tourist landmark in the Lucknow city, is The Residency. Also touted as the Residency Complex and British Residency, it is basically a group of buildings in one enclosure. Overlooking the River Gomti, this historical site in Lucknow is engirdled by gorgeous gardens and lawns. On a whole, the Residency is an architectural marvel in the city of Lucknow. One of the most interesting things to know about the Residency is that it has been a significant part of the Seige of Lucknow (1857); the ruins of which can still be seen at the site. The front gate of the complex was referred to as the Baillie guard gate. The name of this gateway was kept after Col. John, the first resident of the British Residency.

Since this is my home town, I have been visiting the Lucknow Residency, the scene of much violence in 1857, quite regularly over the past decades. Before entry was free, however, because keeping the grounds neat and clean is costly an entry fee was set by the Archaeological Survey of India.
Nice place for seeing our bravery of Indian patriots. This is historical monument of our country in British rules .this place takes important role in 1857 revolution.
Amazing place & museum. Vsit with family. I would suggest, to read the history beforehand- it would be easier to relate. Entry fee : 25/ - for Indians.

Perfect for Pre- Wedding, casual photoshoots and for reels, shorts... this is the place. Only issue is transportation.. ppl who want to depend on ola Uber ..absolutely no! Anyways Ola and Uber services in Lucknow is the worst.
The British Residency of Lucknow is a famous historical landmark of this place. It is now in ruins and has been declared a protected monument by the Archaeological Survey of India. The British Residency was the place that served as a refuge for approximately 3000 British inhabitants during the time of the uprising of 1857. Lucknow was center of all British activities during the siege and the Residency became the monopolistic center of the British for almost 90 days. The Residency still has within its walls, the graves of around 2000 British soldiers who died in the Revolt of 1857. The people of Lucknow tell intriguing stories of British who fled from their homes to seek shelter in these red buildings. Only a 1000 inhabitant survived this tough ordeal. On November 17th, the British troops led by Sir Colin Campbell defeated the Indian forces. Though they triumphed, it was victory in the true sense.Today, the British Residency of Lucknow serves as a government office. The Residency also has a museum that is well-maintained by the authorities. One also finds the tombs Sadat Ali Khan, who was the first Nawab of Awadh, Kaisarbagh Palace and an observatory built for Colonel Wilcox, who was a British astronomer.

Built in 1800, the Lucknow Residency was the home of the British High Commissioner during the British colonial period in Lucknow, the capital of what was then the area of Oud.On 1 July 1857, the Lucknow Residency came under siege. Despite being severely outnumbered and suffering dire conditions, the besieged managed to hold out for 87 days, transforming the once grand building into a hospital, arsenal and shelter. The complex of the Lucknow Residency is also preserved in the same state as it was at the end of the siege, including walls marked with bullet holes. There is also a ruined church with a cemetery that has graves of about 2000 English soldiers, men, women and children. An 1857 Memorial Museum has also been set up here to depict an accurate presentation of Indias First war of independence in 1857 in Awadh.
