A cosy small Indian fusion restaurant. The front of house staff are super attentive, good communicators and can talk in depth about the choices. The food is good. The lamb is not bad, probably overdone but not hard. The curries are flavorsome without overcompensating with heat. The cauliflower entree is a real treat and the dumplings pretty good.So why isnt it a 5*Basics. The chairs need a good leather or faux leather clean. The great food is lost on the need to clean. Get that right and its good.Price. Well Im not harsh on this but its very strongly priced for an above average experience. Is It worth it.. maybe a 7/10 for value.. but a 9-10/10 for taste experience.Could have been a 5 but needs to pay attention to the little things

Honestly disappointed with our experience here. The food was decent but the service and cost was not a great experience. We chose the $75pp menu and ended up paying more than if we ordered each dish off the menu. We asked for a bottle of pinot and by the time it was poured out to each glass we found it was not the one we ordered, but a more expensive bottle. The staff were nice, but didn’t seem to communicate and we found we were being asked the same question multiple times about drinks and dietary requirements, and then at the end of the meal we found out the public holiday surcharge was 15% which was a huge addition to our bill. Left a bad taste in our mouth and probably won’t come back.

A new hidden gem in the city. The modern Indian touch is simply amazing. Loved the food and ambience along with the attention to detail with every dish we ordered. Friendly staff. Cocktails are a must try and for the best sweet ending they have kulfi and jalebi which our group loved the most. Defenately coming back and worth 5 stars :)

The place is a bit smaller than we expected. Its more like a fancy "diner" experience. In their defence, they do advertise it like that. But great vibes and aura. Having said that, the service specially is top notch. We went for an anniversary dinner and the little touch while serving our dessert at the end made it special. We tried a couple of vegetarian dishes and they were really good. Would highly recommend the Smoked Aubergine bhurta and Gunpowder Gobhi. A must try Indian diner.

Thank you for ruining our fathers day dinner. Only found out that kids under 12 are not allowed due to club license. This is the first fine dining restaurant who doesnt allow kids to eat. Also the front staff was very happy seeing that you guys get money without serving us. Our booking suppose to start at 6 pm. As soon as we left they charged us $160 booking fee at 5:46 pm. Seems like they were so happy. I heard a lot of bad words about this place and have experienced it today. I have seen the rudeness and the service at the time of entry and can imagine the food. Hospitality is all about serving the guests. I am very appalled with the rudeness and service of your staff.

Worst service I’ve ever experienced. The quality of the food is irrelevant when compared with how we were treated. Came in with a large walk in group and were accepted but were treated with disdain throughout the meal. On several occasions the staff went out of their way to remind us how fancy the restaurant was and make us feel out of place. It’s truly unbelievable how rude the staff were.

Happened to visit this place on a rainy night. Luckily even without booking we got a table as it looked like a quiet night. What a magnificent dinner it was! I hadn’t enjoyed a meal so much in a very very long time. I loved every bit of the menu so much so that I over ate! The cocktail could be less sweetened. We started with the garlic, curry leaf and chilli oysters. Beautifully done. The best item was something with cauliflower and maybe broccoli done like gobi starter. It’s a must try! Even a simple item like papad came coupled with the best mint chutney taking it to next level. For the main course we had Palak paneer and dal makhani. The Palak paneer was amazing and not just like some green paste. Great flavours. For desserts we had Gulab jamun that was slightly too sweet and the other was lotus snap, and some ice cream on basundi lived it so much that we went for a second serve. Absolutely loved the food.

Fantastic Indian fine dining. A beautiful space and creative food, great for groups as well as for intimate dinner dates. Everything from the food to the service was absolutely amazing! The food was amazing and I loved the Indian spice that came with a lot of dishes and the presentations were really impressive. They have a good selection of wines to go with the food. The service was extremely friendly and our server was very knowledgeable and helpful, which we appreciated greatly. There’s not a lot of creative Indian food out there & I’m super happy to have finally gotten the chance to eat here. Quite disappointing experience overall. We were a group of 6 (2 vegetariansand went with a lot of expectations! We ordered the Queens set menu ($75which was to include 3 mains. However, when the food came, they got us just 2 vegetarian mains and when we asked, the server said that there would not be a third vegetarian mains since they had butter chicken for the meat eaters! Never heard that before - Ive been to almost all the fine dining venues in the CBD - and have always been catered to equally as a vegetarian. And its not that the vegetarians paid any lesser..The breads were below average (doesnt look they have a proper Indian tandoor), as was the dessert (gulab jamun with some icecream). Also, they refused to split the bill at the end into two - again doesnt happen too often and its not that hard! The drinks were nice.Well not be back, sorry! Need to lift your game.

We had dinner at Elchi tonight, and it was fantastic. The venue and atmosphere is lovely and soft, and the food is delicious. We ordered the lamb chomps, 5 treasure vegetables, chilli bhajia and tandoori chicken. The chicken was well cooked with a great curry, and the chilli bhajia was rich in flavour and not too spicy. Best upmarket Indian restaurant in restaurant, highly recommend.

Was good food but not happy with the experience. The staff was 2/3 bad service. Two seemed annoyed and unhappy to serve us and was difficult to grab attention in such a tiny space. When we received the bill I had a $25 charge on a spirit which I know is not worth as much and their response was “well it is alcohol”. Have never felt so looked down on, and as if I was stupid but I will not return and will not recommend because of this.

If you want to have Indian cuisine this is the last place you should visit. Highly over priced( we paid 590 dollars for 6 people, the quantities are one bite size (terrible terrible value for moneyand the taste was so very poor (barring their vada pav). We tried following dishes- deconstructed samosa ( it was a joke !!,vada Pav, beetroot cutlets, chicken tikka, palak paneer, daal Makhni, malai Kofta, lamb shank, prawn curry , gulab jamun with ice cream and lotus kufi and every thing was below average. All 6 of us were Asians and we would consensually rate the restaurant below 1*.

I really cant believe this restaurant has only a 3.something rating! Compared to some of the pretentious and over rated modern Indian places in the city like Mrs.Singh and Indu dining, this place is way better in food, service and ambience! Great work team, very impressed with the staff last night and something different about the way the chicken tikka was finished...just brilliant! I am definitely coming back to experience more of what the famous chef Manpreet Sekhon aka "Curry Queen" has to offer.Only reason I docked off one star is the seating...perhaps at some point in the future it will change...but for now, most slightly bigger than average people like me struggle to get in and out of the booth like set up, leave alone enjoy a meal.

2 stars just because of the interiors and the bartender, a decent guy who is trying his best to help customers. Others, I am not so sure about how trained they are in customer/ table service. We went for my wife’s b’day dinner with high expectations of this place. Upon entry, no warm welcome, not even a smile on staff’s face.First up, we ordered the decontructed samosa as we liked the concept but it failed to impress. Not much flavours either.Second up was Chicken Tikka - good.Third Entree was the Lamb Chops - good. Also tried two golgappa shots - below average.Drinks: Tried to ask one staff about a drink, before I could even finish my question, the staff goes off to call the bartender but even this poor fellow didn’t know much.Wife ordered an “exotic cocktail” - nothing exotic about it except the hefty price tag. Below average.Moving on to the mains. We ordered butter chicken (can’t go wrong with it?and fish curry (coconut paste base- both curries were below average. No flavours. Butter chicken curry was something made out of a can and the fish was chewy! The Malabar Rotis (plain & garlicwere tiny and did not seem freshly prepared, more like a frozen reheat. We had high expectations of this place given the hype since it opened but were highly disappointed. And that too on a special occassion (which by the way staff would normally ask but here nobody cared). Didn’t even feel like trying their dessert.Overall, a below average experience/taste of food, for the price you pay.

Was kinda dissatisfied. The food was alright, but unless you got a huge budget and need for things you can easily find elsewhere I wouldn’t go. There was a simple error by the waiters can easily be done, but not being able to own up to a mistake on the chefs behalf Was a deal breaker. We came for a nice birthday dinner, much anticipation but were left disappointed. The prices were higher than they needed to be, in my opinion according to the quality of the food. I was hoping for a more innovative take on Indian cuisine, but found myself feeling Like I was at any other Indian restaurant.

Elchi, Elchi, Elchi.Like your gorgeous founder, I wanted to love you. I was floored by your beauty.Heres what I did like:- Golgappa shots: Thanks for turning alcohol into Indian pani puri delights. The Spiced Tequila & Avocado, and Vodka Paani & Pickled Beets were exceptionally fun and unique.- Apple Jalebi: I almost didnt order this because jalebi has always been too sweet for me, but I thought, why not? This was like autumn meets Mumbai, and I am here for it. Delicious in every way, and had all my friends FOMO-ing hard.- Black Dal: This is the way to make dal exciting for the new generation.- Cocktails : Thank you for taking notes from Indian spices and turning it into a creation Westerners whove never heard of it can enjoy.-The kofta korma is one of my favorites- a light coconutty dish and I loved that all the dishes seemed light on the heavy cream.-The Kovalam fishs curry was also amazing. If you want more spice then definitely ask for it! Normally I feel lethargic and tired after eating indian but this restaurant clearly kept health in mind!Loved this place! Highly recommended.

So I will start off by saying that we booked a dinner at Elchi recently but were skeptical about the food because of all the reviews about small portions, sub-par taste etc. I am Indian and I booked the place for my Mom and Dads wedding anniversary, knowing that they would have HIGH expectations of their native food.Let me tell you that the ambiance was amazing, we were sat in this corner booth with a nice view of the whole restaurant, the music was energetic, and the place smelled amazing. The food did not disappoint either. We ordered the Chicken Tikka, Amritsari Fish, and Gunpowder Gobhi and they were all ample in portion size and amazing to taste. Like yes they would never exactly taste like the street food you get in Delhi but they were surprisingly keeping up somehow, pretty closely! For the main course we ordered lamb Shank, eggplant miso, Mushroom Pulao, Dal Makhni,Kori gassi, Palak paneer (which we asked them to make extra spicy). Every single dish was delicious, We were worried that at some Indian restaurants, different dishes could taste like they were from the same curry but literally everything had a delicious and distinct taste profile.Would we go back? YES! Was the food great? YES! Was the service great? ABSOLUTELY! Most important NO KID running or crying and ruining the intimate dining experience. We had a wonderful evening, hence the 5 stars! Thanks ELCHI!

This place was a total disappointment. The food quality was not as I expected. I ordered Mango lassi and Gunpowder gobhi. Lassi was okay but I have had much better at many other Indian fusion places. Lack of experience in customer satisfaction for fine dine in.Unfortunately I have to leave a negative review due to the experience at Elchi for birthday dinner. One of the staff made an error but surprisingly we have been advised that it will not be rectified and customer has to place another order and need to pay for it. Human error can be made. That’s ok but how simple it is for a supervisor or owner or a chef needs to send another serve to cover the staff mistake. They were happy for customer to walk away without finishing the dinner and loosing their business just over a small issue. Poor customer service person has to say that she will pay out of her pocket. How stressful environment it could be for a person to work there, if their minor mistakes are not covered by the management.Overall they are happy to loose $600 or more just over $18 dish which is not even worth for this much. Not recommend it to anyone.

I wish I could give negative. Would never ever recommend to anyone.Worst place I have ever visited. An incredibly disappointing experience on a special day.We went for my partner and my sister-in-laws birthday dinner on 30th June booking time 8:15pmUnfortunately the services provided didnt match the price charged. We ordered 2 serve’s of gun powder cauliflower, 2 serves of beetroot croquettes, 1 serve chicken tikka and drinks. When order came they gave us 2 servings of gunpowder cauliflower in 2 separate serves as you would expect it to be served and 1 plate of croquettes(6 pieces). We asked the server that we are waiting for 1 more serve of croquettes and she said yeah it’s coming and after waiting for 15 minutes we asked again and the most dumbest reply we got “oh we served you both on 1 plate”First of all we didn’t ask you to do that as we weren’t sharing.Second, if chef has done that even when we never requested for the same, No One Told Us.Third, Kitchen staff has put the blame on the server however I don’t think its her fault at all we ordered two serves why on the earth would you serve 2 serves on 1 freaking plate?? Ran out of serving plates??? 🤣Most annoying part when we asked that we want to speak to your supervisor. Staff said there’s no supervisor. Chef who messed up everything by serving two serves together, didn’t have the courtesy to own her mistake and apologies in-fact has put all the blame on the server Instead. What if I had ordered 4 serves of croquettes and there were 10 of us on the table, would you serve all 4 of them on one plate????And funny part is they haven’t even mentioned on their menu that 1 portion of croquettes have 3 in it and they expect us to know that 6 croquettes on 1 plate consists of 2 serves.Food -Dish 1 “not your average chicken tikka” it was below average, too salty. No flavours at all.Dish 2 “Golgappa shots“ no creativity/ average plating why would I pay $4.50 each when it’s served just like any other Indian restaurant where you get it at much better price.Classic jal jeera tasted overly tangy and disagreeably pungent.Dish 3 “gunpowder gobhi” also had broccoli in it like seriously??Put it on your damn menu if you gonna add broccoli in it.Dish 4 “beet root croquettes” paid for it but didn’t get served. We had much better time at Tonka. Great food with excellent wait staff. Also if you order 2 serves you get 2 separate serves 🥣🥣

This was the worst meal I have had in Melbourne in many, many years after much anticipation to get a booking. The food was tasteless with not a hint of the aromatic flavours promised. The grilled lemongrass chilli coconut prawns were simply two prawns cut in half with coconut milk poured on them. $16 EACH. No grill no taste. The stench of the actual prawns made them inedible and we sent them back. The replacement dhal was hard/chewy and tasted burnt. The roti was $7 a piece and the size did not even cover in my hand. Tiny. The spicy chicken curry had no spice. The fish curry had no taste. The wine glass was not filled to the correct level and cocktails came out at differing levels. The staff were very friendly, but over staffed. Had 3/4 wait staff ask us the same question would you like water? We had it already sitting in front of us.Watching the chef eat directly by hand straight to mouth from the condiments was disgusting. For the $200 we paid we would have got better flavours from a jar of Pataks at the supermarket. Such a rip off!! There is nothing Indian about it. Not worth the money, neither taste, quantity or money. I mean $4.5 for 1 golgappa?? Really?? and the Apple Jalebi? Why do you even call it a jalebi when it is not a jalebi !!The samosa is not samosa with a hollow ring and the food is just waste. Being an Indian and from Delhi, would definitely not recommend this. Have got wayyyyyyyy better places to go, with a lot better taste and worth the money.Fancy names and product is not worth !!!!! Restaurant was empty and still took them 30 to bring up 4 gol gappas, and on top of that they were not even answering the calls, showing as if they were really busy and occupied. This has easily become one of my FAVOURITE restaurants in Melbourne, it is modern yet elegant, and everything tastes so authentic. I have never had Indian food like it, we were all blown away. I went recently with a group of my friends and the staff were so lovely and very attentive to us despite the restaurant being quite busy. I would recommend trying the golguppa shots with a twist (something I barely ever see at Indian restaurants), 24-carat gold chicken and of course the star of the show, the whole Amritsari fish! We paired our dishes with the Maharani and Roses are Red cocktail, followed by a bottle of Jackson Brooke Pinot Meunier. Would definitely recommend putting this one on your bucket list.

The food is spectacular! The cocktail are magical! And the staff are delightful! What a lovely restaurant. We had the deconstructed samosa to start, which was out of this world. Lamb shanks and paneer curry for mains which was in harmony with my beautiful cardamon cocktail. Overall a brilliant night! Will be back soon to try more. Best Indian food in Melbourne.

Overall 7/10 my favourite menu item was the lamb shanks - beautifully pink. Spices were dancing in my mouth.Mango lassi wasnt also your typical yoghurt + mango, it came with a kick and I loved it!I think the pani puri was full of flavour but would’ve needed a bit more balance. I really liked the one at Delhi streets. The samosa was average but plated nicely. The female waitress was very helpful and could describe dishes.Male waiter wasn’t as attentive to help and couldn’t explain the dishes as much when we asked about certain dishes so we had to google a lot to understand differences.Overall a nice experience.

We booked a table for our anniversary dinner. The food was really good. Tasted amazingMy favourite was paneer lababdar. It had a perfect balance of spices. Golgappa shots were average and serving was too small.I loved how they had fresh off the stove Roti. Loved it. Daal tarka was nice as well.Overall the food was 8.5/10The only disappointment was samosa. Yes, people can get creative with food. But in this case the creativity lost the actual essence of samosa.I guess if the chef had stuck with the traditional samosa, it would have been a delight.I have attached the photo of samosa for reference.Service was good overall. We had a nice evening!

Great night out at Elchi. Not your average Indian food. The venue and menu are sophisticated and elegant. From the surprisingly different golgappa shots (picturedas a warm up to the outstanding entrees and mains, we left very happy. Definitely deserves its place in the fine dining fraternity of Melbourne CBD. We had a look around at the other patrons and without exception everyone there was thoroughly enjoying their meals and rightly so.
