Farm-to-fork restaurant & bar serving Mediterranean cuisine & local wines in a rustic, airy space.
I’ve been a chef for 35 plus years. The is one of the best meals I’ve ever had. Service was excellent.
On Saturday, December 28, 2019, around 6:45pm, waiter Zeki V. dropped a steak knife with sauce onto my back. Zeki offered no apology and did not show any compassion for my wellbeing. In fact, he picked up the knife and pretended he never dropped it on me. Zeki was very unprofessional in this manner.Upon returning home, I discovered a huge stain on my shirt. I am asking for compensation for the cleaning bill.In addition, my mother and I both ordered salads, and the menu quoted the price as being $11/salad. We were charged $12/salad. (I would have let this go had Zeki been professional. When I brought the price discrepancy to Zeki’s attention, he told us there was a menu price change that was never added to the menu.Since he dropped the knife on my back and was very unapologetic, I persisted the price of the salads should be rectified. He spoke with a manager, but returned with only one of the dollars being removed from one of the salads, so I am still owed a dollar (and taxes).I understand this is very close to the end of The Press Bistro’s operation. However, my mother and I have been wanting to attend The Press to enjoy what our fellow locals were recommending. It is a shame that our first (and sadly lastexperience at The Press will be a memorable one for all the wrong reasons. However, I do not feel it was proper for Zeki to treat me in such a terrible manner. I know dropping the knife was a mistake, but there is no excuse for pretending it never happened, let alone letting me walk out of the restaurant with such a huge stain without any sort of apology or compensation, etcetera. Not to mention, I may have been seriously injured by the knife! In addition, Zeki overcharging me for the salads, and not having any sort of remorse for his actions is disheartening. On the restaurant copy of the receipt, I briefly jotted down my grievances with Zeki’s service. Attached to this statement are copies of the menu, receipt, and my stained shirt. If I did not have sharp objects dropped on my back, and then offered no apology or welfare check, I would have taken this situation much more lightly. However, I am seeking a refund on my expenses at the restaurant, and/or at the very least, being properly refunded for my salad and my shirt cleaning (or replacementbill be paid.
Super friendly and great with my baby. Meals were perfectly prepared. Butternut squash Soup to die for. Great drinks and draft beers.
When in Midtown, you must must must experience Danny Englishs menu. We were so blown away by the soulful concoctions served up by the knowledgeable staff that we returned on the following night. On the menu: 4-course tomato flight. For dessert: banana crepes with salted caramel ice cream. The state capital ruled my farm-to-table & if you can, get to the Saturday farmers market. Praise be
We had an amazing dinner. Staff was super friendly and patient even when we were the only table with kids (thank you!). Every dish we ordered was just great. I would recommend the corn soup, stuffed peppers and vegan plate (not on the menu). Peach dessert was also really good (pastry and ice cream). Well be back!
I had the hanger steak, the endive strawberry salad and a couple of other items. Very well prepared and tasty. The service was superb and the atmosphere was fun...
Great restaurant, great ambiance and great service right on the edge of midtown. Their menu changes based on whats locally grown and available and the chefs pick up produce at the farmers market. We had the shrimp, fried goat cheese orange and pistachio salad, halibut with truffle butter all fabulous, the chicken was over cooked, our friends got the lamb and the short ribs. Both said they were phenomenal.
Consistently delicious food from the best seasonal produce. A comfortable restaurant that doesnt believe that being pretentious matters more than the food.
The taste of the food... Good. But I have got to say the presentation, the plating, and that most of the food was some shade of brown. It just was not visually appealing at all. I understand the Chef may be trying to just showcase the dish, but I do really love a beautiful plating. Even some parsley or oranges... (Dennys referenceJust something lol
Wow! I surprised my wife by taking here to the Press Bistro for Valentines and we loved it. The staff are so attentive. The food is so well thought out. The experience is just perfect. Fieldworks is next door if you want to grab a beer afterwards! This is a must go spot.
UGHH....They dont accept American Express!!! Omg, its the end of the world. Theyre totally here to sabotage my efforts to build points on my Platinum! JK... No seriously, they dont accept AmEx.The Press Bistro is cute and fun. Spacious floor plan, with plenty of room between the tables. Outdoor seating as well, but closed on the night we went because of the cold weather. My margarita was very strong. Thanks! Not a very big menu, but the small plates certainly allow you to try a variety of items for a super great deal. We started with the beets, meatballs, and the stuffed peppers. The beets were just beets. Not a whole lot of added flavor. Meatballs come with a side of Greek Yogurt, but they actually taste much better without the sauce. The must try are the stuff peppers. Absolutely delicious and full of flavor. We also had an order of grilled calamari, and the pork belly. My first question was...why cant it be FRIED calamari? The grilled calamari is interesting, but not my first choice. The Pork Belly is highly recommended. My main dish was the Cioppino (Dungeness Crab, Shrimp, Mussels, Clams, Scallops). I wasnt particularly a fan of this. The noodles were a bit over done and slightly soggy. The flavor was good though. For the service, the experience, the food, and the price this place is very reasonable.
Great food - really enjoyed the tapas. Great service. Group of 4 and we all enjoyed our food choices and could hear each other talk.
Solid food and excellent service. This restaurant never disappoints. Order some tapas (3 for $10for the table, cant go wrong with the hangar steak or the short rib as an entree.
Great food, wonderful service, unique cocktails and a very approachable wine list.....highly recommend.
The food quality is definitely 5 stars. The food quantity vs price is not. Shared a couple tapas, each had an entree. No drinks, no dessert. $70 for the two of us and I wasnt full. If you dont mind spending a lot for excellent food, then I fully recommend this restaurant. Despite having some of the best food in town, the restaurant was half empty, and the upside of that is that the service was very good as the servers werent too busy.
Great place in town. Wonderful tapas and great handmade pasta. The service could improve, but the food was outstanding. Everything was cooked really well. We will be back.
Everything was tasty. John our server was attentive. Nice wine selection. Save room and get the banana caramel crepe with rum ice cream... :-p
Truly amazing food, nice relaxed atmosphere although I was looking for something a little more date-worthy or romantic the Press Bistro truly blew us both away. Excellent food, excellent service and top-notch cocktails. Would absolutely recommend to anyone, careful though it is a bit on the pricy side but well worth it.
Our favorite date night and drinks spot. Theres always a table, and food tastes fresh and unique. Dont ask the waiters for recommendations they are kind and efficient but are useless for recommendations
Visiting friends in Sacramento and they brought us to The Press Bistro in a large grouo. The format worked very well with a large selection of tapas which were then shared. The quality of the food was outstanding and the service very responsive and friendly.
Contemporary setting for a relaxed dining experience in the heart of midtown. The quality of the ingredients and final creation on your plate are well worth a trip. Try one of the artisan cocktails as well, maybe whilst sitting outside on the beautiful patio.
I reserved a table for two but when we arrived early and half of the restaurant was empty host offered us a table that want appealing to us. The food and service were worst. I finished a glass of wine and waiter even dint care to ask if I need anymore drink. Ordered steak it looked like anything but steak.
The Press Bistro is consistently great. Our meals tonight were excellent, I had the hanger steak and the spousal unit had a shrimp fettuccine with procciuto and asparagus, both wonderful! Their shared service system keeps things moving nicely. Highly recommended.
The Lasagna Bolognese was superb and even better with Cabernet Sauvignon. Prices on the high side but worth it if youre looking for a great meal and excellent service. Make sure to try the appetizers.
Another fabulously creative restaurant in Midtown Sacramento. Beautifully reconstituted architectural space with all the right touches. Attentive servers bringing tasty treats.
Excellent food great drinks! Atomosphere was nice! Saw some people really dressed up and some in jeans and casual nice mix of people and the staff was really nice
Super consistent. High quality service. High quality flavor and food. Menu doesnt change super often, but you know whatever you order will be reliably delicious. A great choice whatever the occasion. Good bar. Safe pick for dates, business dinners, friend gatherings, etc. Good restaurant vibe w/o being gaudy. Reasonably priced.
This place has very good food and cocktails at a very decent price. I wish they were open on Mondays but that’s my only complaint.
Amazing food every day!
Called last minute on New Years Eve and got in. Enjoyed the special menu. The house wine was surprisingly good, if not decent. The food was good, the presentation was also very nice and the service was great. A good place, will definitely go back.
Loved it! One of my favorite places to get fresh, hand made pasta. Would give it 6 stars if I could!
Very good food. Great appetizers, entrees and drink selections. Busy. Had reservations. Had a little wait.
Came for my office Xmas party. Food was GREAT! Grilled Calamari, steak, cannolis, swordfish... it was all good plus they knew how to make a South Sider!
Simply fantastic experience. We started our meal with the tappos and bread and olive oil. They were kept simple really letting the fresh ingredients speak for themselves. We moved on to the mussels and endive salad and with this the complexity stepped up a notch. We finished off the meal with short rib and halibut. Every course built to be more complex than the previous. My only regret is not being able to finish off the meal with a dessert. The staff was very attentive and Mike who was our server made great recommendations.
Fantastic food and service all around. Every dish from the pumpkin and Parmesan arancini to the short rib and polenta was great. Definitely recommend. Very reasonably priced.
The steak and potatoes is an incredible meal, and I highly recommend the Spanakopitas as an appetizer. The portions were small for the price, but pretty filling. The service was fast and friendly. Its a stylish atmosphere, but no need to get too dressed up.
Another great restaurant which Ive been to with my friends. I think the food was mediocre. Its a nice place to hang out with friends for drinks.
Lovely bistro on a somewhat busy street. The set back patio was quiet and comfortable; the food tasty and the porter dark and cold!
i went for a business meeting dinner, We arrived and table was ready, the food we ordered was pretty quickly served and was as ordered,, The staff is very friendly and cared about the work they were doing at it showed.
After all these years The Firehouse still manages to delivery an excellent dining experience. We were there to celebrate the new year and they had a $125 prix fixe menu... about 3 choices per course. We were a group of 10 so ordered everything available that day and every dish from the lamb cheek and pork belly appetizers to the...
This is the spot to stop and have a fancy meal. The only reason I gave this place 4 stars is because of the hostess. The lady on the front door wasnt really nice to us. Other than that, I love this place!
One of the more happening places in Sacramento with very good food and a great selection of wines. Desserts was so so, but there is plenty of other options around.
Good food, but small potions for a pasta joint, at a pretty high price. Service was friendly and fast. Try the gnocchi.
Great food. Great atmosphere. Grab a seat at the community table, its the best spot.
Arrived on a Sunday night without a reservation and was quickly seated. Very friendly staff. Ordered a fried goat cheese plate along with some bread and it arrived fairly quickly. The goat cheese plate itself was small with the actual cheese about the size of a mini babybel cheese. The bartender was quick to make our drinks and my wifes sangria was delicious. . For our main course I ordered the duck confit and my wife ordered the pork chop. The pork chop was a very good size and cooked perfectly where it was still moist but cooked all the way through. The duck plate was a delicious but I wish there was more of it. Overall great staff, food, and drinks. I look forward to returning again soon.
Just finished another amazing meal here... The service is always friendly, attentive, and enjoyable. The chef personally comes to the table to check on you or refill water. We bring our families here for special events like birthdays and come alone on dates too. Every dish is bomb... Pork, hanger steak, gnooci, chicken picata. Try it once and youll be back.
This place is all about the tapas. Theyre 1 for $4 and 3 for $10 , but clearly youre going for 3+, so dont even kid yourself. The parmesan arancini balls are a must!
Great atmosphere and food. Had the short ribs over polenta. The short ribs were amazing, but I didnt really like the polenta. It was prepared properly, I think I just dont like polenta.
Four of us dined at Press Bistro on Valentines evening. There was a set menu which we usually try to avoid. It was a delightful surprise to experience such a good meal. The appetizers, the lobster stuffed ravioli, the steak (incredibly tender), and a delicious dessert. And an excellent house wine. Server was friendly and efficient. Tables are spaced with enough distance from diners so that we could hear one another and enjoy the atmosphere. A really wonderful evening.Last night (July 31we again had an exceptional five-course meal at Press Bistro. We recently returned from New York City, and I can say that Press Bistro exceeded our experiences in New York. The servers were attentive and gracious and the food ever so good. The owner visited our table several times. Even the coffee was superior to any Ive had in a restaurant.
excellent food and great laid back atmosphere. tapas menu is creative and fun. highly recommended
