The Pilot in Penarth
Description
As always, first class service and food.
Excellent food and service. Francois and the team provide fantastic hospitality! Good selection of delicious food and drinks, all of decent bistro quality and reasonable prices. 👌
MoreStaff are brilliant, good ales too:)
Good food, great service, decent wine. Ticks all the boxes
We went to the Pilot for Sunday lunch, and found the staff the ambiance and the food lovely. We had beef dinner which was very nice, the only problem being we found it rather expensive.
MoreSuperb French cooking. Friendly service. Quality beers. Outdoor/ indoor.
Lovely pub and very pleasant sitting outside in the evening sunshine. Delicious food! Not sure why dogs arent allowed after 6, hence 4 stars.
MoreWent the Pilot for the first time yesterday. The food and drinks were excellent as was the service .We be back again very soon.
MoreIf you are in the Barrage area in Cardiff Bay, its definitely worth a walk up the hill towards Penarth. This is a lovely pub, not the cheapest in the town, but with top notch food and drink and a lovely atmosphere its worth every penny!A great selection of beers and lagers.
MoreDreadful customer service with weird policies. Was my local pre pandemic and thought i would give it a try with my dog as nearby.Shabby on outside and empty at 6.45 on a wednesday. Ordered my pint and was then told that dogs are not allowed in after 6 as part of group policy.was then asked to sit outside in cold or leave. place was previously dog friendly.when asked why dogs were allowed told it was group policy in case it was busy and they take up space ??? place was empty on what was meant to be Steak night.the lady was rude and a should not work in hospitality. We use their other pub the sully inn which allows dogs in all the time so it is not group policy. It had the air of a pub going out of business and it surely will with people like her at the helm.Avoid at all costs. place could also do with weeding and cleaning the outside which was filthy. Wouldn’t trust the hygiene of the kitchen if the owners allow the exterior to be so filthy.
MoreGreat food and very accommodating as we hadnt booked a table . Will be calling again .
MoreAbsolutely beautiful meal , cant rate it enough , friendly staff and great surroundings
MoreAmazing meal tonight! The beef brisket was fantastic; best meal Ive had in a long time.
MoreDont be deceived by the exterior of this pub which appears somewhat unremarkable. The inside is a lovely shabby chic. The service was friendly and the food absolutely gorgeous and. There are offers throughout the week and on A Thursday when we visited the deal was buy 1 main meal get 1 free.We both plumped for the slow cooked. Beef with cheese mash and greens. The beef was so so tender and tasty. We will return.
MoreDelicious food and lovely friendly service. Will be back!
We were glad we booked to come here (on a Saturday nightas we saw several disappointed people turned away. They had a huge party in the lounge, but staff managed well to serve us in the bar. All our meals were excellent and looking around at other peoples food their choices looked good too. Expect to pay £13 - £28 for mains, puds were about £7. As was a very good cheese board.Shame finding an upto date menu on the website wasnt easier. Still a great find!
MoreFantastic food, service and price. Myself and my wife stopped in after a long walk and were very impressed by the food and service from the team. The lunch time menu is great and will priced. We will defiantly be back.
MoreFood was fantastic so that’s the main thing but the service was a bit slow. We were forgotten about several times and most the children’s meal never materialised. Bit frustrating when the food we did have was so good. Not much atmosphere in the room we ate in.
MoreBrilliant pub with a fantastic menu. If you want a snack with your pint Id recommend the dirty frys.
MoreVery nice bar,a little more expensive than others in the area but nothing ridiculous, food smelt lovely.
MoreJust had a Sunday roast to collect after loads of people had recommended the pilot. Absolutely fabulous, beautifully cooked, piping hot. Would definitely recommend
MoreGreat views over Cardiff Bay (shame the windows are too high to see out of when sitting at your table, but in summer you can sit outside!). Good choice of food and as it is in a quiet street parking is no problem so meeting up with friends for lunch is a pleasure. Helpful staff.
MoreSteak night didnt disappoint again
Lovely food and lovely staff. Had olives and crisp breads to share for starter and cod bravas for main which was perfectly cooked. Definitely recommend
More3 course meal was delicious and amazing value for money. Went on a Sunday and it did not disappoint! Recommend if youre nearby or passing through. Manager and staff friendly, welcoming and more than happy to help!
MoreBest service I’ve received in Penarth. The food is absolutely delicious! Will be returning here for food often!
MoreI moved the Penarth during lockdown and this was my first meal in a restaurant after restrictions eased. It. Was. A. Mazing. Perfectly prepared. The staff was very polite and well trained. I’ll be coming back.
MoreHad the chickpea curry and it was tasty although on the small size. Cocktails were great, try the Japanese slipper. Staff was friendly and helpful, following all the covid 19 rules.
MoreAbit disappointed, I ordered mid - rawe steak but almost well done when it come. I hv been there for dinner few times, it was really delicious. Mayb just re-opened after lock down, not hv many choices in menu atm but I will try again.
MoreHad a very nice evening at this gastro pub i chose the hake for myself and the hubby chose Mediterranean vegetable lasagne followed by the arctic roll and a fudge brownie. Everything we had was delicious So tasty and the mains were piping hot which is important to us. Love the place . Occasionally this place is full so check before to make sure not to miss out, but mid week is probably ok to take a chance. Great food at reasonable prices and they have a great range of beers. Lovely atmosphere and DOG FRIENDLY 🙂 car parking is a bit tricky on times but still worth a visit.
MoreUsed to live down in Penarth Marina and the pilot was always worth the trek up the hill for. Hadn’t visited in over 2 years but was back visiting last weekend. Still superb. Food was delicious and as good as we remembered it. Beer selection was unique and interesting. The manager who was always so friendly and helpful was also still there and treated us like we hadn’t left. Always will have fond memories of this place.
MoreThis is the pilot burger i had when visiting here, and the other dish is the portion of vod and chips which my friend had, which i belive is the most popular dish in the restraunt. Overall. Amazing food and service. Highly reccomend going here
MoreVisited The Pilot Monday evening for a catch up with a friend. The food was excellent (I had the pork)service was superb very polite staff and helpful.Couldnt resist a pudding chocolate all the way with ice cream followed by a coffee .Will definitely be back again soon
MoreAlways a nice meal here and has a good selection of drinks. Lovely views within a short walk.
MoreAbsolutely. Outstanding. Food! Came here fur lunch today in a lucent quiet part of Penarth. Service and staff were excellent and friendly. We couldnt fault the food or the interesting takes on pub classics that give you a sense that your dining in a gourmet restaurant. Prices are excellent value. Outside catches the sun all afternoon and perfect to relax with a drink.
MoreHave been to the Pilot many times and have never had a bad meal. The fish specials are particularly good. Add to that a nice space and pleasant and helpful staff and it is well worth the trek to a quiet corner of Penarth.
MoreAmazing gastro pub. Amazing Sunday dinner with the best beef I have had in yonks. The staff are so friendly. Really good prices and quick services, what more could you want.
MoreMy favourite day for food has been a Sunday. The whole chicken with beautifully cooked veg and a rich gravy. Yummo! The last time I went there was a weekday and although the French bartender/server was very friendly, the service was a little slow. The meal took a long time and it was just okay. Of course, I will visit again. Every establishment has good and bad days.
MoreHad a big birthday party there and the food was brilliant the venue great and the chef will accommodate for.most tastes . Great place for lunch or dinner. The place is Informal and the food is excellent. Definitely worth a visit. Parking can be a little restricted as the pilot is in a residential area but other than that try to get there if visiting Penarth. This is one of the better places to eat here
MoreStumbled across the New Pilot after a walk and bike ride. We had the lunch menu Chili con carne, and fish and chips, wow ! The food was excellent and a reasonable with quality and value for money. The decor is relaxing and modern. A bonus was dogs are allowed in the bar area with plenty of room and not interfering with other customers. Highly recommended.
MoreHad a fabulous Sunday Lunch. It was a big plate with lots of meat, vegetables, roast potatoes and a Yorkshire pudding. The dessert menu was amazing. The meat is cooked according to how you like it done. Will definitely go back.
MoreAfter walking round the bay and across the barrage, this pub was an ideal spot for lunch. What a treat. Lovely wood burning fire dried us off, welcoming staff, very high quality food with an imaginative menu plus a very good choice of drinks. We will certainly be back to try some of the other food on offer.
MoreLove this place. Staff are friendly, young & helpful. Has a gastro pub beach house feel. On a warm day, great to sit outside. It’s also a lovely quite location. I’ve had a few good & a few not so good meals here. I assume this depends on the chef of the day. My last two meals, which consisted of various starters, were much too greasy. Staff were understanding & did not charge for one starter.Haven’t tried Sunday lunch yet but as it’s our temporary local while filming, will definitely do so.
MoreThe Pilot: Part of the small Knife & Fork group. 3 ales at time of calling. Modern style establishment - french cafe` effect (not really pub style). Staff very welcoming & professional. Lunch simply excellent & very reasonably priced & quality. Toilets clean, modern & well maintained. Definitely worth a visit, however like many places in Penarth not easy to find.
MoreWas nearby looking for place to eat. Surprised to have found this lovely place. Sunday menu on Sundays. Had the hummous to share as a start. There wasnt a price on the menu thought that means free lol (we still got charged in the end tho). Very pleased with the cod, it was lovely. Dessert was very nice as well tho a bit pricey.
MoreGreat warm & welcoming gastro pub whos prices arent cheap, but food is excellent quality. Has a larger dining room in back area, with a dog friendly more bar focused area at the front. The same high quality main menu can be had either area.It also has a limited number of bench tables outside on the street side which are popular in nice weather.
MoreHow can you wax lyrical about a plate of fish and chips? Visit The Pilot at Penarth and experience their lunchtime fish and chips, served by courteous staff, and I’m sure you’ll agree with me. My wife commented it was the most delicious she’d ever had; well presented with the cod in a tempura batter complimented by ‘Proper Chips.’ The dishes of pureed peas and tartar sauce with capers provided the finishing touch. My mind was cast back to a childhood holiday to Cornwall, and a plate of fish and chips we enjoyed at St Austell. I’ll admit on this occasion, I added a side plate of onion rings. They were mouth watering...and huge.As we left I also noticed a five hygiene rating on the front door.Well done the Pilot...
MoreFood is the best in the area, fresh, full of flavour. Constantly changing menu, generally Reinterpreted pub food with gourmet French style fusion. So refreshing in a culture of terrible pub food. Service impeccable, decent view from one table, great atmosphere and personable helpful staff that give you the perfect experience. Amazing for family or a date. Almost dont want to write this review as I want to keep this place as my secret, but it has been so good consistently thought they definitely deserved praise as that is so rare in the Cardiff area! Keep it up x
MoreVery good lunch options, good beer & dog friendly
Nice food and a relaxed atmosphere. We went with friends and children and were made to feel welcome. The beer seemed well kept as well. The Sunday menu was a bit limited with no specials board which was dissapointing as it all looked good.
