19th-c. Greek Revival home of U.S. President Franklin Pierce, open seasonally for guided tours.
I just finished reading a biography of Pierce before visiting. I felt the tour could focus a little less on the artifacts in the house and a little more on Pierce and why he wasnt such a bad guy. Information on what is was like living in the 1800s was interesting.
This was a very interesting and historical experience. I loved learning more about our 14th president.
The most underrated president and life story. Whether you are Republican or Democrat, you will enjoy. Itβs not what you would expect. Very cool! The young man who was our tour guide was phenomenal! We attended several tours as a family and this was our absolute favorite. He took his time and explained things clearly. He involved us in the tour and asked us questions as well. Very friendly and educated. Toward the end of our tour, another employee was trying to rush us, including rushing our guide, as it was closing and she wanted us to leave, but our guide was very kind and patient and continued to finish his explanations without making us feel that we were an inconvenience. Beside that, all the people who worked there were very friendly and personable, including the eager-to-close employee. We all appreciated visiting here and would highly recommend it! The facility was beautiful and totally worth the visit. It is preserved and run by only a few people and they deserve all the support and donations to keep it running! Totally recommend!!
My friends and I recently enjoyed a wonderful tour of the Pierce Manse. Our guide, Tom, was outstanding. He was so knowledgeable and interesting... and clearly passionate about the history of this beautiful presidential home. I highly recommend his tour!!!
Extremely underrated president
Very good visit. Joan was a wonderful resource on Franklin Pierce. Would recommend it.
Enjoyable stop for those who enjoy learning about our past Presidents. They were so gracious to schedule a tour for us on a day they werent normally open (called a week ahead to request). Pierce ran a bit against the grain, a principled man who remained steadfast though it was not the road to what most would call success. Very informative, easy to walk through.
We like visiting variius president houses. Tom gave us a wonderful tour of the house and explained the life and feelings of our 14th president
Thick with rich history of time long ago!π
The staff is very knowledgeable and the tour is well worth the price

Love to walk around and see the grounds
The house is only open a few months a year but brigade will open the house for you if you contact them in advance. The ladies were extremely nice and very knowledgeable. Mrs. Cat gave our family a wonderful tour and we learned so much. Thank you for letting us visit!
I love history. I didnt go inside but I enjoyed the thought of and having the honor of being able to stand on a piece of land that once belonged to the only U.S. presidents from N.H.
Great for history buffs. Nice tour of the house and small gift shop.
So fun to learn about Concord history
Just the kind of local historic place we like to tour. The tour was very good
Exactly what is promised. The staff is very knowledgeable and the tour is well worth the price. Its a little basic if you know a lot about the time-period, but its cool to get a different perspective on the president. Lovely setting on Horseshoe Lake. Air conditioned, which is also nice.
Learned a lot about Franklin Pierce
The Franklin Pierce Manse is the historically significant home of the 14th President of the United States, Franklin Pierce. Set on a side street in Concord, NH, it is easily accessible. The staff is knowledgeable and enthusiastic about their mission of keeping alive the memory of Franklin Pierce and his family. My guide was extraordinary at painting the former president and his family as fully dimensional people. The successes of the Pierce administration were highlighted, such as the Gadsden Purchase and improved relations with Great Britain and Canada. Less was said of the Kansas-Nebraska Act and its aftermath. Pierces strict interpretation of the Constitution and his firmly held beliefs in States Rights during his presidency began the inexorable march of the nation toward the Civil War. It is a credit to the staff and guides that after a tour of the Manse one has the impetus to delve further into the life and presidency of Franklin Pierce.
