Great hotel and location. We stopped here for one night, wish it had been longer. The rooms are really great. They have Aircon but their design keeps the room very cool so we didnt need. We ate their and the food was really good as were the cocktails. The owner and staff are really welcoming and helpful. Loved it

Wonderful lunch stop between cities. This restaurant is close to Uxmal and you cant really miss it driving through. The food was Yucatca and super authentic. Service was wonderful. Coming from the US, you get a lot for your money. Beers are extra cold.

The Pickled Onion hotel and restaurant just outside Uxmal, Yucatan is wonderful! The food was delicious, the staff and owner were so kind, friendly and welcoming. We only stopped for lunch, but the property is beautifully well kept and surrounded by local flowers and plants. A definite place to stop if you are in the area!

Can’t say whether this is the best place the town has to offer, but it certainly is cute. Unfortunately the food was only mediocre. I ordered a Caesar salad and it come out as largely pub quality - iceberg lettuce, no croutons, and undressed. Felt like it would have been right at home in a McChicken. My wife got the gazpacho and it was too salty so had left it largely untouched. The pool looked really nice but can’t comment because we didn’t actually stay. There was a big ‘for sale’ sign out front so maybe that was the reason for the quality.

A wonderful place to stay! The Pickled Onion is in a great location for resting your legs and relaxing after a long hot day of exploring Mayan ruins a Cenotes. The individual freestanding cottage had everything one could need out on the road. The bed and linen were clean and comphy. Nice walk in shower with plenty of pressure. There was a safe for your valuables, refrigerator, and a great A/C unit. There is a small pool for cooling off. Lots of trees and plants on the property. The hotel staff were ready great. They serve a great breakfast in the morning with good coffee! Melon and other assorted fruits, eggs and bread. The restaurant menu is good with lots of local Yucatan dishes. The kitchen didnt disappoint! We had our laundry done there as well, everything came back clean and smelling good! I really loved my stay there and will definitely be returning some day. Thank you Pickled Onion for the great accomodations!

We stopped in for a tea break and Dolores said they wouldnt have any tea or postres and bet 200 pesos on it. She lost the bet: they had earl grey tea and homemade brownies and custard flan. We didnt stay but stared it for next time. (And I came out with a profit!)

Lunch here was serene. Beautifully kept grounds, surrounded by jungle make this place a perfect stop for lunch. Pictured below is the pollo pebil. It was snowing the best chicken I’ve had in Mexico. Fall off the bone delicious. The meal only costs around US$7.

Food was just ok in my opinion. Maybe skewed by all the great food weve eaten in Mérida.Edited to say I think the owners comments are fair. I dont have any other reference for the area. Dont want to sound too negative. The meal was not bad in any way, and I failed to mention that the service was good too.

One of the best meals we had during our 14 days in the Yúcatan! We were amazed. We were just hoping to find something simple in this small town, but came across this gem! Everyone loved their meals and it was a great place to eat between archaeological sites.

After a morning of touring or exploring Uxmal, The Pickled Onion is your stop for lunch, dinner or just a cool margarita. The service is great, the food authentic and the place first class. For being out in the middle of no where on the Puuc Route, it makes for a great stop. You can even spend the night in a Mayan Casa and get a massage pool side.

When we arrived, our reservation was not available. They suggested that we try another place in the area but made no effort to help do that. Very unprofessional behavior. I would give a 0 star rating if it were available. The other recommended place was not at all nice so we just drove back to Merida.

I had a thoroughly delightful dinner with two amigos from Europe this evening. It was good to find a place that could take advantage of the quality produce grown in the Yucatan and create dishes with an international flavor and inventive style. It was a great gastronomic experience for us here in Santa Helena. Local cooking in the Yucatan unfortunately is mostly fried products that are unhealthy and fattening. This is sad since there is a lot of good produce that is inexpensive. I highly recommend the Pickled Onion as an oasis from the bland local foods.

This wonderful establishment is on the outskirts of a hidden little 3-bodega village, in the middle of the jungle. The rooms are exquisite, and the food deserves a 5-star all its own, but where it really shines is in its location. The Pickled Onion is a wonderful home-base for excursions into campeche, but also as a place to rest when coming back from the DOZENS of hidden ruins and pyramids throughout the area. As comfortable as the room is, my family and I spent most of our time here out on the road and ruin-hopping.

A great place, a rustic look with everything you need in the 21st century. A wonderful staff that takes care of your needs. Plus cold beer good drinks and great food. Even if you are only doing a day trip to the Mayan ruins, plan to do lunch here. Save room.for desert. This is a truly great place to recover from walking and climbing the ruins of Ruta Puuc.

Exceptional property in beautiful surroundings. Wonderful pool. Very clean units with hot water, AC, fridge. Coffee maker in room and secure safes. Breakfast included was incomparable to others on Ruta Puuc. Owner greets you on arrival. Repeat customers necessitate advance reservations as once you have been you will want to go again! Tranquility plus!

There were four of us and a kid. We stayed for two nights in April 2018.The location was great! The food was great too, and we regret we only had a chance to eat there once.A lot of ruins to visit around.Swimming pool was enjoyable, and the presence of the owner was nice, I enjoyed few small conversations with her.The rooms could have more lightening in my opinion, and the mirrow in the bathroom of our bangalew was installed way to low. But at least my four year old could have seen himself there, not that he really cares for his appearance much!Other than that, would love to come back.Merci,

This place is perfectly located in Ruta Puuc and makes an excellent base for exploring Uxmal and the other smaller ruins in the area. The grounds are like a garden with a small pool perfect for cooling off after a long day of ruin hopping. There are multiple bungalows that are super fun to stay in, along with being both clean and comfortable. The lady that runs the place is super friendly and knowledgeable about the area. She comes out each morning during breakfast (with her cute dogto visit with the guests and to offer advice. The staff is also very friendly. Breakfast is included and very good. Parking is also free. The only downside is that the restaurant for dinner is just OK and the margaritas were very bad (stick to beer).

Food was... ok(quesadillas were dripping oil). Service could improve. But what really makes me give them 1 star: they charge us a 5% surcharge for using an international card... senseless since the restaurant has to pay the same fee regardless of where the card is issued. Also, its not true there is not any food in the puuc route. There is none in the ruins... But there is near the caves.

Charming and beautiful buildings and grounds. Excellent food, including dinner, breakfast, and a very generously portioned picnic lunch they packed for us. It was obvious that the people there genuinely wanted us to feel well taken care of. And the plants had name-tags; as a tree-hugger, I really loved that. Highly recommended.

This B&B/restaurant is a beautiful place, with cozy huts, lovely pool, gorgeous walkways with plants identified, and even massage and yoga available to schedule. The owner and her staff take care of the place with such love, it shows. We only stayed one night, but wanted to stay forever. Dont hesitate to discover the little gem, its quiet, and the drinks by the pool side are excellent! Also, they have a family but, with one hut/bathroom with two beds for the kiddos, and the other, semi connected one for mom and dad, with their own bathroom.Overall, a fantastic place!

First of all, heres coordinates of this place:+20° 19 12.25", -89° 38 35.02"as for some reason it is difficult to locate it on Google maps (as of November 2012).An ADORABLE PLACE!!I stayed there with my wife for less than a day in November 2012, and was extremely satisfied with place, settings, environment, food, drinks, and most of all - HOSPITALITY!We arrived in the morning after almost sleepless night in Palenke - Merida bus and then Merida - Santa-Elena connection and further Mexico - Palenke 11 hours bus night trip the night before. It might be because of that reason, but really - we found that place incredibly relaxing, in a calm tiny spot beside a not busy Mexican country-side road, with few people resting there at that time. A few bungalos, small swimming pool, fruit trees, birds... and relaxation...I suggest this place as a must stay for everybody travelling by car in Puuk area. Its located just in-between of several small Mayan sites, and in 15 km from famous Uxmal, and I think it should be very convenient to visit few of them within 1 day, than spend a night at hotel, then go to Uxmal, get back, get some rest [Repeat for as may times as you wish :-] For regular travellers, which are not fond of archeology, or who has got enough of it during previous trips to Mexico - this place is welcomed as well. We met a family from USA, who comes back there twice a year, saying they liked its style and environs. We went in the evening to Santa-Elena - 10 minutes walk in dark half-lighted village streets. It was very safe, to our surprise - calm Sunday evening with children going to old church and families gathering at few local bars.Valerie, hotel-owner is just a real personification of hospitality! I cant say no more..Food at hotel restaurant was very good to our choice. There was plenty of domestic dishes, wihch we preferred, as we always stick to local food, and we like Mexican cuisine. And yes - fruits was all fresh! Literally, they were grown at local farms (local, I mean - cross the roadand were hanging probably just few hours ago before serving. And there were plenty - unlike of other hotels/resorts, there were not just bananas, oranges and pineapples from can, but also water-melons, mangos (fresh!and so on (I do not know their names in English and in my first language anyway :-)If well ever go to Mexico again - well definitely travel to Puuk area again, rent a car and spend few days in this small hotel.
