The Pickled Hen - Restaurant in Chumikan, Russia
I was staying at the hotel, and I thought I wanted to have a quiet nice dinner before bed. I asked for the hamburger. The service was poor and a hamburger was overcooked. It give me the impression that they didn’t wanna provide me with service. I had high expectations because of the reviews but I guess I was wrong.
Large, beautifully lit space with tasty and healthy options, including a large variety of vegetarian and vegan options and even a selection of alcohol free beer and wine. Servers are well meaning but can be better trained.
Good value breakfast buffet including tasty coffee
Located within Marriott Marble arch hotel, the Pickled Hen offers all day dining and drinks. A relaxed and comfortable atmosphere and staff that are friendly and attentive to your requirements. I thoroughly enjoyed peppermint tea and canapés offered during early evening.
Really poor experience, waiting staff didn’t seem to care at all, part order didn’t arrive and partly incorrect. Not even an apology or slightest of care given. Disgusting and a let down for the Marriott hotel attached
Very impressed with the service and the food was absolutely delicious. Ralph and the team were very friendly and attentive. Would highly recommend the casterbridge steak.
Food was okay. Nothing fancy. you would find a better meal in many other local restaurants with similar prices. The manager was very good, but the other member of the staff was very ill-mannered and not helpful.I felt the member of staff tried turning us away when we walked into the restaurant, even though it was empty. He refused to serve scrambled eggs without milk added, even though one of us was lactose intolerant. He even accused me of not sticking to my initial decision for which menu to choose from, as it caused him distraught to swap the menus.Youd expect much better service from a restaurant attached to the hotel.. disappointed.
To start things off the breakfast is fantastic and the service provided by Ralphe and his colleagues were excellent and tentative. Not too much of a fan on the limitation on the dinner menu but overall the quality of food was very good.
Just a really bad vibe from the guys at this place when we walked in. We ordered drinks, eventually, but it was hard work. Rarely feel need to review badly, but we put more effort into being nice and getting things to try to work than the staff did.
Well, completely let down by The Pickled Hen. Turned up for our afternoon tea reservation, having driven 130 miles to get here. A treat booked for my partner after her illness. Only to find the entire place closed. Disgusting. And I had a reminder email this morning to confirm the booking too. What awful treatment.
Been here a couple of times for Sunday Brunch and it was great quality food, excellent service, and they were very generous with the bottomless bubbles. I cant wait to go back... Why 1 star? Ive emailed them over a week ago (and sent them a message on Instagramand not had a reply - not even an automated one to state that responses may take a while or that the emails arent being monitored. A shame, because Id love to book a table here again, but may take my custom elsewhere now. Perhaps a 1 star review will prompt them to reply? I am intending on using a Buyagift Voucher, and to redeem it, it only gives the option of an email address and no phone number, though I have tried calling and get through to a voicemail despite the automated message saying booking is open 0900-1700 Mon to Fri but I have tried on a few different days and been unsuccessful. I have tried to click Reserve Now on their website which takes me to bookatable.com but comes up with an error. Probably best for me to reluctantly convert the voucher to another restaurant as I cant book here.
Visited for a bottomless bubbles brunch for a birthday celebration. Didnt expect a four course meal and endless prosecco top-ups! We got an special offer deal on this meal and it was a bargain for what we had - £49 for two people. Thoroughly recommended at that price.
I rarely give a one star review but feel i must in this case as the staff in the hotel bar was just plain rude and the prices was extortionate.Drinks, which are already expensive, come with a 12.5% service charge on top. I ended up paying £7 for one bottle of beer when one of the bar staff decided to keep my change without even asking my permission - this is down right theft! What was really galling is the same barman was giving other people free drinks for no apparent reason. Great to know i was subsidising other people’s drinks. The food was also expensive given the quality. The meat dishes don’t come with any sides included so i ended up paying over £20 for a piece of breaded chicken with rocket and a side of potatoes. The service was slow with one of our party only getting her dish when we had all finished ours, even though she had ordered at the bar before all of us.They also messed up an order. My friend had ordered rosemary chips and instead received plain chips. When she complained the waiter looked annoyed. He took the chips away and returned with the same plate of chips but with a pathetic sprig of rosemary added. Hardly rosemary chips! The staff also seemed confused as to the drink prices. As we were attending an event in the hotel, we were told we would receive discount at the bar on certain drinks. The bar staff kept contradicting themselves and changing which drinks were included in then offer that in the end we had no idea what things cost.Overall it wasn’t a great experience. The bar is definitely a tourist trap for the guests staying in the hotel.
I want to like this place but there are a few basics that they just don’t get right. Service is oh so slow. You wait forever to order and then there is a another long wait for your food. The food is average at best. The coffee probably sourced from an off run of the Thames. The burger was dry and somewhat tasteless. If you staying at the Marriott and you really don’t feel like walking too far then this is a great option for you. If not, consider other options please...for your own well-being.
Good food, bad service. From the normal menu, braised lamb shank pie was satisfying. The double chocolate brownie came with ice cream. Brownie looks extremely fresh like it just came out of the oven - costs £6.50.On the Veganuary menu (from a non-vegans point of view), the beetroot hummus was amazing. Spinach curry was great. Chocolate tart was thick and acceptable. Do not order the vegan carrot cake. It is no where near what a normal carrot cake would look like. It is not a slice of brown carrot cake. Its alright if there isnt any white icing due to having to keep it vegan. But the cake itself, you can see in the picture. And on the vegan desserts they sprinkled hundreds and thousands - not sure what to think about that. Felt like a dessert for kids. We asked to change it from the carrot cake to the chocolate tart and they were really nice to let us do that. This time the chocolate tart did not come with hundreds and thousands. Looked so much more professional. So we are not sure why the previous serving needed it.The service: We came after a big liverpool vs man utd soccer match. The place was very quiet with only a few tables occupied. When we arrived, nobody bothered to acknowledge us - we are definitely happy to wait if they were busy. I had a reservation and I had to walk right up to the waitress to tell her I have a reservation, and then she told me to wait. We waited for about 5 minutes to be seated. The waiting time in between felt really long:Ordered food and drinks at 645pm > waited 15mins for 2 draft beer on tap > waited total of 35mins for starters > waited 15mins after finishing starters for mains to come > waited 15mins after finishing mains for dessert to come > waited 15mins for bill to come > waited another 15mins so we could pay. We left at 930pm. Did not expect to spend such a long time here as we are not eating a fine dining meal. It was difficult to catch any waiters attention most of the time although the place did not look crowded. We would come back again if we want a place that allow us to stay and chat for a long time without paying for the fine dining experience. The restaurant looks very pretty.
A hidden gem in London. This English pub, within a Marriott property, is simply fabulous. Good ambience and service. The sirloin steak is a must try.
Hi, I’ve been there the 14/11 for an afternoon tea with my mum, I’m very disappointed because one of my chicken burger had rice leftovers on it, I complained with the waitress and they prepared me a new burger but I’ve never expected to find that in a top rated hotel and restaurant. We pay a lot of money to have a good service so at least you could offer fresh foods. Thanks
Food (had wings & beef brisket mac&chse for lunch& continental brkfst both quite yummy. Manager woman was very sweet but one of waitresses was quite standoffish & seemed a tad “put off” by having to serve Americans.
Attentive staff made for a pleasant atmosphere in the heart of London.
We had a lovely bottomless prosecco afternoon tea here on a Saturday. Fantastic service from friendly chatty waiters/waitresses. The food was a little on the cold side, and we made the mistake of having mixed vegetarian and meat but wouldve preferred just the meat. The vegetarian burger was just mango pieces in a bun...Prosecco was flowing and we didnt have to wait to be topped up. Great atmosphere. I think if we had mentioned our concern regarding the cold burgers it would have been rectified!
Prosecco Sunday Brunch, 20.10.19. Food was lovely, self service starters and desserts, lots to choose from. Live entertainment was excellent, two guys singing, fantastic atmosphere throughout. Staff were very professional, a huge thank you to Martin from Colombia, for exceptional customer service. Would definitely return.
Went for bottomless brunch, food was really nice. Had fish & chips & burger. Be prepared for a food coma.Funny going to the Pickled Hen, where there’s no pickles or chicken on the menu though 🤣
Had high tea with unlimited prosecco on Frid 6th Sep. It was great value for money. The food was delicious and the staff were very friendly and attentive, especially Marten.
We reserved a bottomless afternoon team but it was not really bottomless, we had to ask for top ups many times. We have been attended by Anais and another professional man (who I believe was Italian). They were lovely and more experienced than the manager who had very, very poor customer service skills.
Nice atmosphere, Bottomless afternoon tea. Decent prosecco
Went for afternoon tea with unlimited Prosecco.Service was superb glass topped up loads in our 90 minutes.Staff were very attentive.Thank you we had a lovely time .
We went for bottomless brunch and I wouldnt rate this place. It took 20minutes and 2reminders to get a prosecco top up. 45 minutes to clear our mains plates, we ended up doing it ourselves by putting them on the table next to us once vacated, 2 tables neighbouring ours then followed suit. The food was weird, I felt like we were been served the leftovers from the hotels buffet the night before. Since when did roasted vegetables, or a chicken leg in a Yorkshire constitute brunch? Also we found a piece of plastic in the buffet chicken. Iced donuts and pastries for dessert? Definitely leftovers from the breakfast buffet. This is the second time Ive eaten in a restaurant attached to a Mariott and its the second time its been weird (first time was afternoon tea in Twickenham where I was served a giant Raita sandwich!). Pay the extra money and go to Gouchos, youll have a much better culinary experience.
Made to feel so welcome, Sunday brunch with unlimited Prosecco was amazing. Live music while we were there and the songs were really good. Thank you so much to the waiter, waitresses and the Chef. We are going to try and get back here for another visit, you were all brilliant and so friendly. Many thanks to you all.
Absolutely fantastic Sunday brunch. Food was excellent, prosecco was free flowing but what made it was the wonderful staff!Every single person we encountered made us feel so welcome and like nothing was too much trouble.Amazing experience, thoroughly recommended.
We came as a big group (17 people). It took them 45 min to just to serve us the beers! and about 1.5 hours until the serve us the main dishes. Bare in mind that beside us the place was nearly empty. The waiters were inexperienced and during the evening they didnt came once to ask us if we need something even though they didnt have any more castumers. The food was ok but considering the service I cannot give more than one star.
We had a delicious bottomless processco lunch which I would recommend
Had the prosecco afternoon tea here yesterday, we had a lovely time. Food was delicious, glasses topped up as soon as they were empty. Staff great especially Martin. Thank you
A different type of afternoon tea, with delicious mini burgers instead of sandwiches, and the tastiest scotch egg I have ever eaten. The staff were very nice and attentive. The restaurant was clean an service was quick. We had a very pleasant afternoon.
We went for lunch with bottomless prosecco and it certainly didnt disappoint! It was busy with a great atmosphere and live music. The starter was really good as you could build your own freshly cooked omelette and there was a great salad bar. I had the fish and chips which I can highly recommend! Bottomless prosecco was great too and the staff were really attentive and friendly! Would definitely visit again!
Good food and a friendly atmosphere. Look out for deals. We got two three course meals with bottomless Prosecco 90 minute time limit for £30. Normally £70 and way overpriced !
Fantastic bottomless bubbly afternoon tea. The scotch egg was particularly tasty, and they kept filling up the prosecco!
Absolutely fabulous! Staff super friendly, food very tasty and prosseco lovely....!
Lovely place and atmosphere. Myself and a friend went for afternoon tea, the food was amazing. The service was great and live music when we walked inCouldnt fault the pickled hen at all. Thank you
We enjoyed afternoon tea here a few days ago. It was a little quirky and made a nice change from finger sandwiches and Victoria sponge! We used a voucher bought from buyagift and we saw other ladies using one from wowcher but the tea can also be purchased directly from the restaurant too.
We had a great time here. Got a fantastic deal for 15 quid for bottomless prosecco afternoon tea. Makes a real change from the norm. Sausage roll, scotch egg and fish finger roll!. Great service and great venue.
I Was here for the first time, I was greeted by a lovely lady. She asked me if she could bring me anything.I took the peppermint tea which she suggested, when I asked for tea. After this encounter I felt pretty lost, as seemed the waiters as they passed by me without even noticing me. I waited about 10 minutes untill another waitress asked me if I ordered the peppermint tea. I replied with a nod.The hook was though, that I wasnt given a cup, nor a spoon to stir the sugar into my tea. After asking for them Ive received the missing tools to enjoy my tea.As for the main course I can really recommend the mushroom papardelle with spinach, cream sauce and the poached egg.Overall good food, but mediocre service.
Went here for dinner one night. The place wasnt crowded. Unlike others, we actually had pretty good service, just a new waiter. He was constantly having to go ask the bartender questions so it took awhile to order drinks.Thankfully, they kept some bottles of tap water filled on our table. Everyone seemed to enjoy their food. The portions were large. I ordered a chicken club (I believebecause I wasnt hungry. I expected somethibg small. Nope, it was large and it was good.We ate in more of the restaurant portion. It looked like they had some private rooms for larger parties and also a couch/chair area for those wanting that vibe/wanting mostly drinks and apps.
A good selection of self-catered brunch and huge portions of mains. Great level of service and good value for money. Will definitely come back again!
Fish and chips is great although there are fish bones in the fillet and the chips are amazingly crispy outside with the mushy inside. Mashed peas is delicious. The beef in Sunday roast is tough to chew. Make to order omelets are in great quality(if you like spicy, try it with chili peppers). The salad bar has a great variety to choose from and most of them are delicious. Cheesecake and chocolate toffee tart are amazing. Service is great(constantly with waiter/waitress checking on uswith casual atmosphere(life music). It definitely deserves higher than 3.9 star which it’s currently at. Just to mention. for the price around £25, you can even takeaway your mains and deserts!!!
Hotel bar, better than many, but not really the gastropub it wants to be. Would not make a trip, but if nearby and in need of a spacious bar then this could be for you. The food I tasted was pretty ok, but not special I am afraid. Overall, could do better.
Food was good, especially the sweet potato fries that are rare to find in London. The service however really sucked even though the place wasnt at all busy on a Monday night! The space is quite large, pprobably good for hosting large parties but with limited service not sure how they would cope.
Terrible breakfast service, so slow and food cold. Staff do not write the orders down so our food came wrong and again so slow when trying to sort it out. By the time our food and drinks came it was almost lunch time. In fact our smoothies never came. Lack of acknowledgement from staff when complained.
Nice place went for a friends birthday, not to busy even though we went in a Friday, so easy to talk to friends, cosy atmosphere. Drinks like spirits are priced well. The food itself was nice though it took over an hour for the food to be served they did compensate with olives and fried chicken skin actually worth trying really good and moreish. For the main I had Lamb shank pie was good though I think more seasoning in the shank would have been better the portion sizes are decent so only get one side if you need one.
Excellent quality food which is affordable in central London. Most foods have a nice pickled twist to them which compliments the taste. Highly recommend the pickled hen burger and the camambert plate. The brownies are delicious. Great little gastro pub thats cosy and modern at the same time.
Great modern gastropub, the food is amazing and very affordable. Great place for a drink or meal.
