811 Valencia St, San Francisco, CA 94110, United States, San Francisco
Irish pub that serves classic bar food & shows major sports games on many TVs.
Great service! Loved the fish tacos; skirt steak taco was also great but fish was better. Our friend did not like the corned beef taco as it was dry & had a sweet-ish sauce. 4.6 stars if I could.
Good food, good service and good drinks.
For a bar that defines themselves as a sports bar, they have some growing to do. UEFA Championship and they have one bartender / server, and no backups. Bartender was understandably flustered, but unacceptably rude... figure it out and call in a backup!!!
Friendly local hang out with decent drinks and food
I have one big complaint - the wings are not priced appropriately. The price does not scale properly with the number of wings, so going from 9 to 12 results in an 8 dollar price jump, and 18 is over double the price of 9.Im not sure if this is just an oversight or some sort of pricing strategy but its annoying when youre looking to get a little more than 9Overall, its a low-key, very chill spot with some decent taps and a decent menu. So, I give it a 4 despite the annoyance of the wing pricing.Edit: looks like they addressed the pricing issue months later
Understand the place is being ripped down soon, but $9 for a Guiness and no bathrooms? It was nice knowin ya…
I read that the Phoenix is getting demolished, but unclear when! I dont live close enough to go here often, but Ive always enjoyed it. Bartenders and other bar flies are fun to talk with, and the calamari was good... Though you should really stop eating octopus because they are capable of culture and social hierarchy. Anyway, Im heading over to get a last beer and soak in the 21 year old bar.
Great place with delicious food and drinks! Its close to The Chapel which was great since we were seeing a concert that night.
Very good food, and also nice collection of beers, music was mostly rock/80s
No nonsense no frills Irish Bar playing Mexican music. Whats not to like? Just a nice chill place to hang.
Been going there for years, always good crowd. I like it that way for a night out with friends. No drama the times Ive been there.
Popped in here for a late night bite and a final brew when my group wasnt ready to be done for the day. We had a great time and really enjoyed the ambiance, even if the service was a touch slow.
The service was pleasant and friendly and quick. The burger was nice but not amazing. It was handy to have arrived during happy hour and we did take advantage of that. The bathrooms were clean. Having the football on really loudly made conversation a bit of a challenge.
Reasonably priced for SF and allright food too. They recently took sliders of the menu but I asked them for it one night and they cut up burgers to make them for me which was really cool. Old timey Mission bar and still a goody.
Cool atmosphere. Our experience would have been a lot better had the table next to us not been so loud...but its a bar. I had chicken quesadillas, and they were probably the best quesadillas Ive ever had! Kinda weird considering this is an "Irish" bar. Their Irish Soda Bread is very good. 3 out of the 4 of us were very happy with our meals.I see two reviews rating this as poor. I thought it was really good. We had a funny waitress who was drinking in the afternoon and joked she was going to get fired for drinking. But she took good care of us, we had good food, the beer was really nice, the atmosphere was great and we had a real good time.
Everything youd want from an Irish pub. Prices reasonable, food VERY tasty. Bathrooms arent in great condition but it looks like theyre updating them (written Aug 2019). Music a bit loud.
Good place to watch soccer. Great service, lots of seating. The food is a little pricey, but thats not why youre there. Good selection of beers on draft, and a decent margarita.
No waitress so had to wait 15 minutes sitting down before we even got our menus from the very unfriendly and grumpy bartender, the food was then served to us by the chef! Very overpriced for the below average quality food. Don’t recommend, and coming from an Irish person this place is a disgrace to our culture.
A solid neighborhood bar. I like going here during the day better at night. Ive had some good conversations with other native SF bargoers here. Hard to find nowadays in this neighborhood. If youre looking for a very chill spot on Valencia to grab a beer, this is your place
Very cool place to hang out and have a drink and sandwich. The chicken Chipotle sandwich was delicious. Fries were nice and thick. Service is top notch!
Great dive bar Im the mission, the food is pretty good too. Im only giving this 4 stars because its not exactly dive bar prices and all my favorite bartenders left
Excellent buffalo wings and clam chowder! The Rueben is also respectable. We enjoyed the atmosphere and the service, which was friendly, albeit a bit slow.
I love theyre food really friendly staff cool bar to hang out and love the atmosphere! Really nice place to hang out with friends and have a few drinks and just chill and have fun
Dirty place and the owner needsto drop the word Irish as the only Irish resemblance is the few slapped on the wall posters. Bar waitress states she does no serve patrons who are seating at floor tables then later she is doing exactly that.
A buddy of mine and I stopped by here to get some food before going to a concert at The Chapel down the street. It was fairly crowded on a Saturday afternoon but not too bad. But there was only one bartender/waitress running the place so she tended to be quite busy.I had a Shepherds Pie that was very good.
Food was solid but they were out of 1/2 their tap beers when I was there. Their drink special wasnt altered despite the beer being unavailable. Food was good though, so Ill probably give it another shot.
Perfect Irish pub. Very relaxed vibes. With great soda bread! The Shepards pie was perfect for a cooler night out.
Nice pub in the Mission with beers and cocktails, and they have a lot of pub for items like fish and chips, Sheppards pie, etc.
The Phoenix, awh, great beer and appetizer stop, but also has tremendously good dishes for dinner. Went in a day before the SF Pride parade. Beautiful hot day. But it was shamefully hotter inside than out. Very much in need of air conditioning. However, its usually a fun and casual environment. Stop by!
A bit of a mysterious hole in the wall. I came for a quick lunch and the food was surprisingly good! The clam chowder was unusual but a tasty twist on the regular recipe. Solid drink selection too.
Went in early eve for an ale. Nice beer selection. A few tvs scattered around (not real large though), some colorful patrons, nice hangout dive bar. Did not try the food.
Came here on a weeknight to watch the Warriors game. It wasnt too busy, but enough fans in the bar to keep it exciting. Servers were super friendly. Food was ok, Shepards pie and lamb stew. I liked the pie more than the stew, the bf thought it was good lamb but I didnt like it as much. Pretty casual and chill.
BOYCOTT!!..going there to eat/drink means youre supporting an irresponsible owner who cares nothing about the staff, unless an owner is supposed to blame his lack of skills in a bar industry on the employees he hired... Calling someone a thief is slander to their character. If I could give the big ol zero, i would.
Owner got rid of the old awesome staff for no reason. Drinks were always tasty and prepped quickly. Dont know who theyll hire next but those guys were reliable and friendly. Ill miss you guys but you deserve better and hopefully Ill catch you at other bars.
Friendly staff, excellent food (I had the salmon on a Caesar salad and a delicious fish taco), and a great selection of beers on tap (I had Anderson Valleys Barney Flats Oatmeal Stout, probably the best stout I have ever tasted).
Bartender was awesome, great music and enjoyed the food here
Good menu. Good drink. Good bathroom. Good service.
I love this place. All of the bartenders are super friendly. While I have not ordered food from herebi dont see why any of the menu items would be off. Everything here is first class!
Stopped here for a couple beers after checking out the Mission District. Fast and friendly service at the bar. Clean.
Mellow atmosphere, great staff, good beer. This place isnt super fancy, or where youd take someone if you wanted to impress them, but its definitely cozy. Great spot to get a couple of drinks with friends.
After a night of swing dance lessons, we traveled over to the Phoenix Bar to grab a late-ish Monday night bite. This was also during Cinco de Mayo so the Irish pubs werent the crowded locations.Jacqueline was our server and she was phenomenal. If every waitress I ever had was as excellent as she was, Id want to eat out every night. We sat in the back part, which was dark, and more quiet. I had the Shephards Pie, which was pretty good and my fiancé had something else, that he liked, and I dont recall. The food came out quick and the food came out hot.The bar isnt the cleanest, but its not that bad. But again, Jacquelines amazing customer service and the decent food made this location a surefire place for a repeat Irish pub food craving.
Chill bar with a good selection of beers and a decent happy hour. We didnt order food, but saw many people sitting and eating food that smelled delicious. The space is great because you can easily fit 6+ people at a table, which is sometimes hard to say for bars in San Francisco. Overall, the bar is alright. Good spot to hang, but nothing else too special about it.
Came here to grab a few drinks before catching a show at the Chapel which is half a block away. They were showing the first game of the World Series and it was quite packed but enough room to move around. The beers on tap were good and cold. I got hungry and ordered the chicken and cod tacos which was very good. I was not expecting it to be that good. Id definitely come here again for the beers, food and local vibe.
By far, my favorite pub in the city. Ive been going to this establishment for years. Great food, fun atmosphere and a good crowd. Yes, you can even bring the baby stroller with you. This neighborhood spot is the place to see a game or just hang out with a group of your friends. People are friendly. The only reason why Im not giving it a 5-star rating is because the service is a bit slow.
Convenient location next to all the millions of restaurants and bars on Valencia. Good happy hour with tasty pub food appetizers. The type of place to grab a beer and chat with friends in a low key atmosphere.
Irish Pub with great food and a nice selection of beers. This is a favorite breakfast/brunch stop of mine or a nice place to grab a beer and bite to eat after an adult soccer game. Located very centrally to nightlife in the mission this is a nice spot to start out your Friday night.
This is a great place to grab drinks and food with friends. Theres lots of room for groups. The staff is friendly, though the service is sometimes way too slow which is too bad because the food is really good. Its not a fancy shcmancy gourmet kinda place, but its really good and the perfect place to hang out for a casual night of fun. Its also a nice location on Valencia where the parking doesnt seem too bad.
An Irish Pub in the Mission...Well of course there is one! Theres an Irish Pub in every SF neighborhood! Its a slightly dark bar with some TVs for sports watching (the As game is on right nowand a decent selection of beer. They have your standard Irish beers: Smithwicks, Boddingtons, Harp, Spaten, and Magners Cider. Happy hour is a $1 off drafts and well drinks and $5 house margaritas. The bartender was super nice and had no Irish accent...first place Ive had a female bartender that wasnt Irish at an Irish pub!I didnt try the food here. Maybe another day.
The skirt steak sandwich is absolutely delicious. Had it twice now - great both times. Served with tomato jam - yum! Some of the staff seem a bit standoffish but the girl that served me last 2 times is really friendly and attentive. And hot.
I ate here with a group of co-workers from Google and we had a great time. We stopped in on a Thursday night and the place was pretty packed, but we were eventually able to get a table in the back. Terrific potato skins, onion rings, and halfway decent sliders. Food wasnt blow you away good, but I would certainly recommend Phoenix for those looking to catch a good game.
