Relaxed Italian restaurant with exposed beams, for traditional cuisine, cocktails and live jazz.
Brilliant little gem, tucked away in the heart of some where & something a little different. How refreshing!! Will be going back there again & soon!
We love it here the staff are lovely the music and atmosphere fantastic.. I just really really wish the food was better. The first time we visited about a year ago it was lovely. Ever since it been pretty mediocre. Last night I had the special it was tepid not hot at all, and the octopus was like chewing a tyre. My husbands lamb was nice though. Like I say I love this place Im just desperately wishing the food was better.
An Italian restaurant that doubles as jazz venue. The food was remarkably good, on the whole, with the stuffed aubergines very tasty and highly recommended by the vegetarians in the group, and the pork medallions very succulent. The jazz ensemble, a duo with the lead Italian singer treating the diners to a smooth repertoire, was nice and acted as a background music rather than being too intrusive.Location I a quiet square of the Lace Market. Parking is extraordinarily expensive around the site, so use public transport if you can.The host and staff were impeccable. Two points worth noting:- Vegetarian options are somewhat limited and the vegetarian pasta option rather dry- The venue is more a restaurant that provides a setting for jazz rather than a jazz venue that happens to serve food. Lovely night out but would have loved a bit "rawness" and edginess about the jazz.
Great experience, the food was wonderful and the staff very friendly. Will be returning for sure!
The ambience and drinks at this restaurant are fantastic and the live music on Friday nights is very enjoyable. Unfortunately the food is substandard - we had undercooked pasta, ridiculously salty sauces and small portion sizes all for a fairly high price. I would not recommend this establishment for food but great for a drink and music.
I cannot believe I never knew about this gem until now. Loved it!
Love The Pelican Club, food is always great and such a relaxing atmosphere. Delicious cocktails as well.
I love Italian food so keen to go there. Positives are friendly staff and clean. Negatives are food could really be improved. For example sauces too thick, pasta not fresh and the main plates are large but basic. They should reduce portion size by 20%, and focus on the ingredients and improving the texture. Remember you taste with your eyes before the food reaches your mouth. I really want this place to do well!
Came here last night and its was a really lovely experience, the food was mostly fantastic and really complex, the decor and ambience was nice and understated and the music wasnt too loud that you couldnt enjoy your conversation. Bonnie who served us was incredibly professional and went the extra mile. Anyone feeling the pinch with the current cost crisis, the Antipasti and Primi were decent portions for the total price however avoid the Secondi if youre mindful of spending.
Lovely italian food, great live jazz
Went for late night drink to soak up Intimate atmosphere and live music. Great venue.
Wonderful, little, tucked away place with a great vibe. Live musicians and cocktails. Will have to return to try the food. Enjoyed sitting in the outdoor area too
Great food and the wine was superb! The music is outstanding!
Delicious food, great atmosphere. Staff so friendly and helpful. Highly recommended
Great concert, great drinks and food. Nixe service. Great ambience.
Great night out. Live jazz, dinner, cocktails. Loved it.
Love it! Best bar in the city, best Italian cuisine in the city and best jazz in the city! Simply the best!
We had a very memorable visit. Theres a great look and feel to the place. The cocktail menu is fantastic and the cocktails themselves are made to a very high standard. The staff were helpful and friendly and the live band topped it off perfectly. Well definitely recommend and will be back.
Easily my favourite place for food and drink in Nottingham. The atmosphere is amazing, the food is delicious every time and the staff are so friendly.
beautiful beautiful music and splendid food and drink, couldnt ask for a better jazz spot than this love this place will be back in a few hours
In terms of accessibility, this venue is unfortunately not suitable for wheelchair access at all. First and foremost, accessibility information for the venue is not readily available on their website. Should you visit this venue as a wheelchair user, they have a really thin corridor round the back where you have to use two ramps that are very dodgy to go up. The last and only time my friend, a wheelchair user, visited someone had to stop her wheelchair from tipping over due to a staff member holding the ramp wrong and it sliding off. Whilst all of this was going on and she was trying to get up this extremely dodgy ramp, all the waiters couldnt get past so a huge queue of them formed whilst she struggled to get herself up the ramp and into the venue, thus making an already uncomfortable situation even more awkward for her. Would not recommend this venue to any wheelchair user due to these glaring accessibility issues.
Great experience, food was lovely, everyone was very polite and live music. Unfortunately on a pasta dish there was a big piece of plastic at the bottom so my sister only found it at the end of her meal wich was a bit discussing, we raised this with the waitress and recognised the food was really good, she appoligised and that was it..we where expecting at least some discount on that dish but no compensation for the mistake was made, we wherent expecting much since she only found it at the end of the meal but it would have been a good gesture a discount on her dish at least. We paid around £130 for 3 ladies plus tip, no desserts, 1 bottle of wine to share,2 cocktails,2 starters and 3 mains.
Did a 10 out of 5 Review on Trip Advisor. Food amazing, staff superb, & live jazz. Fabulous.
The food was nice and the restaurant felt very comfortable, but the music was just too loud. Such a shame, as the artists voice was lovely.
Whet there for a romantic meal, atmosphere was cosy. But food and wine was not up to scratch. Everything was over cooked, my partners meal was obviously microwave and so hot the she couldnt eat it for a good few minutes. My pork was dry and hard. The first glasses of wine we asked for was undrinkable, so overall not impressedSorry.Ps. The staff were friendly.
A lovely spot with a wonderful atmosphere, talented live performers, and top class meat dishes. Our server Nathan was also a highlight of our visit.
Manager was caught mimicking one of my friends when he thought he was out of sight & tried to deflect as opposed to simply apologising. Waited 40 minutes for average food, first & last time going.
Had really high expectations and food was alright, but one or two members of staff are quite nasty (and others are wonderful), we waited for 45 minutes for food which wasn’t a problem as it was a Saturday night, so politely asked for some bread. When the bread came it was icy cold to the point it was wet, so I mentioned it was cold; the managers immediate response was ‘well that’ll be because I took it out the fridge’ right close up to my face with such an attitude, why be rude? He said it in front of our whole table and was so patronising. We were semi dumbfounded but didn’t say anything. The host then proceeded to walk to the till and repeat the conversation to their colleagues, right in front of us, and mimicked my voice. After someone on my table asked what he had said, rather than apologising he proceeded to completely avoid us for the rest of the evening and even kept his back to us. I work in retail, I understand the perils of customer service but please don’t sit there and take the mick out of paying customers, it’s unbelievably unprofessional and very rude . Unfortunately I’m not inclined to be returning, as the food didn’t make up for the self entitled service
The biggest disappointment was not the food ( average, won’t go there for thatbut the music.I went there expecting lively jazz.Didn’t happen.Amateur bands garage practice.
Delicious food with some wonderful combinations, lovely cocktails and lovely staff topped with mellow live jazz at night, just perfect! Will definitely be returning!
Tastey food, with great music and brilliant staff. I would definetely go back. We had cocktails, starters , mains and desert. Everything was great except the ravioli i had which i was not the biggest fan of the sauce (hence they lost 1 star, but that would not put me off coming back. Next time i will try a different dish. The atmosphere was fantastic and the selesction of cocktails topped the night off. Lovely restaurant.
Really nice homemade special and main course, excellent friendly hosting, great music
Perfect venue all round and a lovely experience. Came for dinner on a Saturday night and the service was brilliant and cocktails and food were delicious. The atmosphere is fantastic, with nice lighting and the live band playing at the perfect volume. The prices are nothing ridiculous and absolutely worth it - our starters were £6-7, pasta mains were £11-15, and they have a few bottles of wine for under £25. If youre vegetarian/vegan, ask for the separate menu as it has a few bits on that arent on the regular menu.
Absolutely wonderful place. Have been wanting to eat here for years and the experience did not disappoint. Food was superb, staff were so friendly, and the live music - while more Blues than Jazz- made the evening perfect. I had no idea they have such an extensive cocktail menu here - Banoffee Delight was delish and husband said his Rum Old Fashioned was the best hes ever tasted. Highly recommend and will be returning!
Highly disappointed.95% of my reviews are always highly rated and positive.Having visited the pelican club numerous times, we always received impeccable service from the Hungarian waiter. Highly efficient. Personable and professional. The venue very atmospheric too.The food is always just ok and if we were just going out for food then we would have eaten elsewhere. On this occasion we were 10 minutes early and we were asked to sit opposite the bar, highly unfortunately a tealight fell from about 8 feet high from a small alcove onto my husbands body, waxing his clothes, and totally ruined them for the weekend.Dan proceeded to apologise, accept full liability snd pay for the dry cleaning. We were in shock.Hot wax hit me and my husbands skin.We are not people to cause a fuss and we wanted to continue our first evening out in over a year since I am fully recovered and no longer under treatment. It was a personal achievement and celebration. We ate, enjoyed the music and left with no further reassurance or check in. We had to find a new jacket for the next days event as we were miles from home.On luckily the wax coming out at the dry cleaners, I sent the bill over for £20 pounds and received an unprofessional response from Dan.We still havent received any payment.Needles to say sadly that we will no longer ever visit nor reccomend the pelican club.Times are hard for everybody including us, there is no excuse for being a pompous doosh.
My birthday, so the Pelican Club looked very inviting, good food, good service and fab live Jazz!!! And to be honest the atmosphere and service is great. Unfortunately, the food which should have been great was not. Dont get me wrong, the pasta dishes were small but tasty and well presented. We opted for the rib steak. Mine was well over cooked, in fact burnt. Too tough to eat. Our server was very good about it and gave us discounts on our cocktails. This was an extremely busy Saturday night, so to be fair, I can still recommend this venue. Atmospheric and friendly and well over priced.
From the moment you step into this wonderful place, you feel thoroughly chilled out. Such a warm welcome & fabulous food along with relaxed Jazz music. We dont live in Nottingham so unfortunately its not easy for us to revisit, had a great birthday meal, one to remember.
We went for the first time for our Christmas team night out. The place had a lovely ambience, menu a little limited. The food was pretty average. Not ranked in my top 10 for Italian food as it was sub standard. Wouldnt rush back which is a shame.
Fantastic food with great variety and lovely cocktails. The music was great, however I wish the bands were forefront performances rather than background music. If youre looking for a great restaurant with jazz playing in the background this is the perfect restaurant but if youre looking for a jazz club with great food, this isnt perhaps the right place
Great venue, great location, great music, great service and tasty food. It was a lovely Thursday girls date !
Treated hubby tonight for our Anniversary! Great selection of drinks and cocktails, All of the food was amazing and cooked to absolute perfection. The bar staff were very friendly and Dan was so attentive! The lady jazz singer was also excellent! Will 100% be returning, we had a wonderful night!
My favourite place for a night out in Nottingham - rustic Italian food, cocktails and live jazz, you cant go wrong!
We had a great evening at the Pelican Club! Lovely atmosphere, jazz band playing, warm welcome, fabulous food, helpful staff and great cocktails. I would highly recommend!
A beat of jazz in the Lace Market, in Nottingham. One could also enjoy the good music by tasting some italian food, and of course a very italian spritz cocktail.
Lovely atmosphere, beautiful live music and the best Italian food Ive ever had. The staff is amazingly friendly and helpful, going out of their way to accommodate us. I didnt want the night to end.
This place has a really nice ambience and decor. Great cocktails and cool location. Love going through the velvet door curtain! The food lets it down though. I have eaten here twice and both times I have been disappointed. I like al dente pasta but tough as old boots is not for me!The staff are great and really friendly. If the menu/food was as good as everything else it would be an all round amazing spot.Would definitely go for drinks though
Proper live jazz in notts... Good food choices and the food doesnt disappoint in taste although portions are not Northern (or Midlands). Prices reflect the experience but well worth a regular visit. Check out the happy hours all week on cocktails and fizz
Exquisite food, friendly service and a wonderful ambience. Really cant fault this place and have been coming for years! Cocktails are to die for and jazz nights are particularly wonderful. Annas Baileys cheesecake is delicious. Please please visit if its the only thing you do in Nottingham.
Just wonderful!Live Jazz music at the perfect volume to be able to chat in an incredibly warm atmosphere. Excellent food and service too.We even got a romantic table near the stage, and enjoyed the best view on musicians.I will definitely come back.
Our favourite place in Nottingham.I was first drawn in by the jazz echoing down the street and stayed for a melon cocktail that was superb. Ive had great success asking the bar staff to make cocktails to suit the mood of my company and I, and the list is otherwise extensive.Food is exemplary, the best Italian Ive ever had that wasnt made by my relatives. If its on the menu, try the pork medallions in black truffle sauce. I could eat the vegetables alone, the meat is an added delight. The only negatives are that there isnt a house band playing all night every night, and that you need to book a week in advance - expected for the weekend.
