Gathering place where Southern-style dishes & a lengthy drink menu are sampled amid local art.
The Parish in Tucson
Description
Privilege
Outstanding quality and uniqueness to the food here! Really enjoyed it. Didnt have to wait to long on a Friday night to get in. Great server. Good drinks. But the food!!! So darn good. We had a pasta dish and added sausage to it and the stuffed pepper and shared then both. The tastes together were amazing. Highly recommend when you want to get out and eat something out of the norm.
MoreEverything is well seasoned and the patio is wonderful. The gumbo was worth the wait and the hush puppies are fantastic the day-of but not so great the day-after, so make sure to eat those first if you plan to take-away!
MoreStaff is so friendly. Amber was awesome and very knowledgeable about everything. Made us feel like we were regulars. The frog legs were great the gumbo was awesome. We had crawfish added. My burger was cooked perfectly and tasted amazing. The fries I loved. Everything was exactly what I was looking for.
MoreHad an amazing experience here. Food and service were ✨QUALITY✨I had the frog legs as an app and I must say I didn’t know what to expect but they were good! Also, their watermelon drink is delicious and refreshing (The B&W)The catfish was light and fluffy with a crunchy crust!
MoreStopped in for lunch and had a great meal! We started with hush puppies and they were the best weve had. The sauce was flavorful and could have been used in anything. I ordered an oyster poeboy and it was packed with oysters! My wife ordered shrimp and grits with greens. Those greens would make me go back just for a big plate if them! Not bitter, almost melt in your mouth and seasoned just right. The grits was a fried block which added texture and an extra flavor. They were still smooth and soft. Finally, the service was spot on, friendly and helpful without being intrusive. We are planning to go back to try a few other items, but it is going to be tough stepping away fr what weve already ordered.
MoreAs we walked in, the atmosphere was dark and gloomy, and felt like a bar in the ghetto of a huge city. My family and I do not patronize bars, and we were expecting a down-to-earth Southern-style restaurant. The hostess didnt welcome us, and when my mother, sister, and I asked for outdoor seating because we were appalled at the atmosphere and stench inside, she reluctantly said we could sit outside, but if it rained, they wouldnt seat us inside.Outside, we looked at the menus, but so many of the meals had evil names, and nothing was gluten-free, so we quickly left, and went to Golden Dragon a few doors down.I wish there was a family-friendly Southern restaurant in town...
MoreO..M...G!! From the moment we walked in the door we were greeted with the best hospitality. What a gracious and simply BEAUTIFUL staff! Raymond (I hope you get him!Is an absolute gem. Thank you for your hospitality and the food is AMAZING! Hats off to the Chef. If you visit Tucson, make sure you check out the Parish!
MoreAlways a fan favorite! Love the ambiance, drinks and food! We had the drunken angel pasta and the smokey angel pasta. Also the chile relleno appetizer 💣 !! All magnificent 👏
MoreInteresting restaurant with a lively atmosphere. The server was not very helpful with the food selection (wouldnt make any suggestions and gave short, rushed non-answers when asked about menu items). I got the impression that the kitchen was trying a little too hard to mix up a lot of different flavors.Im not saying I wouldnt go again but I am not in a hurry to get back.
MoreI spent about 3 months in Tucson and while I was expecting to have great Mexican food I was not expecting my favorite restaurant to be New Orleans style cooking. But here we are.The food at The Parish is amazing. The gumbo is an amazing smoky flavor that is to die for and the hush puppies are the things of dreams. The Parish Burger is also not to be missed. I went here a number of times and neither myself nor anyone in my party had anything bad to say in the slightest. Simply put: you cannot miss this place. Also, we had Kelsey as our waitress a number of times and she is awesome. Outstanding service, super friendly and awesome at helping you decide when you are torn between two amazing dishes. Hopefully you’ll get her too!
MoreThe soutside sandia was incredibly delicious, I recommend this with the bacon popcorn. Couldnt taste the alcohol but I could feel it. The parish burger left me wanting more, but not because it wasnt filling (I was stuffed). It was just that great! The beer battered catfish was amazing, perfectly cooked, I hate tartar but I couldnt get enough of this tartar. The does are great. Definitely a got to in Tucson!
MoreLove this little gem! A few years ago we discovered it, pre-lock down, and they used to serve brunch, which was amazing! Now they have a lunch dinner menu and are always busy. Such good food. If you want a little taste of cajun food, this is the place. And we got the BEST service sitting in the bar.
MoreI really tried to like the place. It started off with the hostess delivering us to our table. It seemed like the bartender on our side was the only one manning the tables and the hostess was manning the other side. The bartender was great and friendly and attractive. My only downside was the menu was bereft and only a single page. Half of the items dis not appear appetizing and I had to rely on Google reviews and photos to know what the food looked like. The bowl I had was the Smoking Pasta bowl and while the dish is vegetarian, the bartender offered to put sausage on it which was super delicious. My issues with my meal is that the goat cheese completely overpowered the entire dish. It wasnt a smoky dish anymore and I was over the flavor after the third bite. Mixed with the sausage it was good but still, sadly not the best. The bread that it comes with tastes funny, like pork rind old or something but it wasn’t savory as you would think. My friend had the catfish with fries and she didnt like her fries and said that while her fish was good, there was a weird taste to the fries.I had the lemonade which was the only great thing about thr food in my opinion and my friend had mimosas.Overall, the food was okay but I wouldnt go back. Not for me.
MoreFirst time dining at The Parish and really enjoyed it. The menu had meals that I honestly don’t think I’ve seen served at other local restaurants, hence making it a unique experience. The Gumbo and Drunken Angel pasta are a must!
MoreIn my opinion, the best restaurant in Tucson. Love the delicious food, amazing drinks and the nice southern/Cajun vibe of the place.
MoreAwesome food and awesome atmosphere! Happened to stumble on here because our first option was closed, Im glad it was! We had frog legs, shrimp Po boy, and catfish. All was so freaking good! I cant wait to go back and try something new!
MoreFirst time. Fathers Day lunch. Wait was about 15 min. Crowded and noisy as expected. Good service. The Brussels Sprouts were tough as leather, but the cornbread was great. Both entrees were quite good. Large portions. Reasonable prices $$$. Dessert was not served as ordered and had to be re-ordered, but we took it home and it looks great. Every place is worth a second chance, so well be back. Good parking, ambiance could have better reflected the Cajun/Southern/Steam Punk claims.
MoreGoing inside the place is smaller that it looks on the outside- the black walls and shades and the trippy pictures on the walls give it a Gothic vibe. Our Waiter (Lawsonwas on the the best waiters I’ve ever experienced- he was helpful/ fast/ and took initiative. The food was great - we had the Hush puppies- a burger and I had the compressed watermelon salad with toasted bacon chunks… very yummy. I wish we weren’t so full so that we could have enjoyed the desert or another drink- speaking of the drinks, they infuse their own vodka/tequila/Gin on the shelves and you can really taste the FRESH flavors in the drinks! It was only $60 ( not including tipfor 2 people including an appetizer, 2 cocktails, and 2 mains- one included a side.Would go again when in the mood for heavy southern style food. Their pork is very juicy.
MoreHad the shrimp Po-boy with vinegar slaw and hush puppies. Best hush puppies Ive ever had
MoreReally good tasty food! Hush-poppies were crispy outside and warm inside. Shrimp and grits were delicious, lots of shrimp. The bread pudding dessert was just ok.
MoreEverything was delicious! We went with a group and collectively I got to try the hushpuppies, bacon popcorn (which was amazing), gumbo, and the beer battered catfish. Everything was cooked perfectly and had great flavor. The cocktail menu is impressive too with a good variety of house craft cocktails. They currently have a two hour table limit so good thing to be aware of if youre going with a group or think you might want to linger but our server was nice about it. It was still plenty of time for appetizers, two rounds of drinks, and dinner.
MoreNot sure what all the fuss is about... First, I cant figure out what the theme is, I can only describe it as an eclectic mess! Was there 3 weeks ago, had a gift card. The cod was soggy, french fries over seasoned/salted and horrible presentation, my dates meal wasnt any better. On the recommendation of the bartender I Ordered a dessert to go, the tiramisu cheesecake, HORRIBLE tasted like it had been left uncovered in the refrigerator for days-I threw it away. The dress style of the waitstaff and the hostess are not consistent with the price of their food. The only reason they have a wait to get in is due to the lack of tables. There are several 4 star reviews on here with multiple pictures of the food. Hmmm very suspicious, Im betting those 4 star posts are from employees, and friends of the staff and owners. Definitely done intentionally to raise their review rating.. Not buying it at all...
MoreThis has been the absolute best experience my family has had food wise in a while. Long wait but it was well worth it. My family is from Louisiana and the food there is amazing and I absolutely love Sonoran style food. This was the perfect mix of blending the two. The blue corn cornbread with the sweet bourbon butter was a unique twist on a southern dish that surpassed expectations. Frog legs were outstanding. The main dish I got off the drunken angel was…. Heavenly. Fitting its name. The service was great and the desert of the mango peach pudding was the perfect exclamation to the end of the night. When the cocktail are mentioned last, you know the food was great. But they aren’t mentioned last because they lacked. A wonderful selection and the ones we tried were all delicious and unique. 10/5 stars. Will definitely go back.
MoreStaff were friendly. Food is a little heavy and the crawfish isn’t very seasoned.Flavors are good, but I’ll have to come back to have something to rave about.
MoreAbsolutely coming back to this restaurant. We had the shrimp and grits, hushpuppies, and a special spicy chicken sandwich. All delicious, and great service. Also has outdoor seating, so you can look at the mountains as you enjoy your meal.
MoreAwesome place. Great customer service. 4 stars only because the steak was not my favorite. But I will be back to try other items.
MoreSo glad I finally got to try The Parish!! Food and service were both phenomenal. The best part was easily the bread pudding!! The ONE complaint was that our table ordered a bottle of Zinfandel, however what we received was actually a White Zinfandel. It was still delicious..just not what was expected. My 5 year old also ate and LOVED a frogs leg! Even I cant get over my internal hurdle and eat a frogs leg, so kudos to her!!
MoreThis place is definitely worth the wait. They encourage you to check in or reserve a table online using Yelp. The wait was about 1.5 hours. I decided to opt for a bar seat with full menu. Overall had a great experience and the food was excellent. Definitely a casual experience and not a suit and tie kind of place. I had a glass of the German Riesling, it was great. I would recommend trying the hushpuppy appetizer and the catfish entree did not disappoint.
MoreDelicious menu! Wife got the Drunkin Angle (best dish), I got the Pork sandwich. But the Bacon Wrapped Frog Legs... Game Changer - earned the Parish 5 starts.
MoreGreat food, unusual parings and unique offerings. Staff was friendly as well. Good selection of mixed drinks and tap beer. We have been coming here for Saint Patrick’s Day for four years and the food never disappoints. They have a great system of getting people seated and even though the wait may be a wee bit long, it is worth it.
MoreBeen here since their inception. Finally submitting a review of this fantastic restaurant. The beverages are amazing. The food is consistent, consistently great. Above all, the service is above par.
MoreAlways an amazing dining experience at the Parish! Spicy edamame, house fries with fries sauce thats to die for! And their brussel sprouts are the best Ive ever had. Our bartender was so knowledgeable and a joy to watch her put her passion into our drinks! Will be back again and again!
MoreThis restaurant was absolutely wonderful! We had the bacon popcorn -very savory and tasty. Then we got an oyster po- boy with vinegar slaw and the shrimp and grits with greens. The slaw was spicy and very crispy fresh and the po-boy oysters were delicious. The bread was just ok but the pickle was perfect! The shrimp and grit cake was the absolute best! The fried grits were crunchy and the shrimp were cooked perfectly. The greens were nicely seasoned. Dwayne (I think), our server, was very professional and did a wonderful job. I would highly recommend!!
MoreFrog legs, hush puppies, and the trout were all so good. I especially loved the frog legs diping sauce 😋
MoreExcellent food, fun atmosphere and friendly staff made for a great final evening in Tucson. For meals, we had:• The Parish Burger -- perfectly cooked beef, with a delicious onion marmalade; definitely falls on my "Top 10" list for burgers. Paired with the gumbo for a side, which was absolutely worth the $2 upcharge• Carolina Pulled Pork Pibil -- hearty amount of meat, with tasty slaw, and an aioli that had the perfect little bit of heat• Guedrys Gumbo -- large bowl full of flavor and meats, with crispy bread and tasty hushpuppies on the side (definitely get an extra order of these as a starter)• Garden District Salad -- surprisingly good-sized portion as far as salads go; generous amount of toppings for itWe also shared the skillet cornbread as a starter, and wished we had gotten 2. Dont hold back on the bourbon butter either!Drink menu featured a nice selection of local and national craft options for beer, plus several cocktails. Happy Hour features great drink and starter deals as well.Service was great; our server was accomodating and friendly, and the food came out in a reasonable time.Overall, a great spot to get some authentic Southern cuisine, and enjoy a night out.
MoreColorful and cute interior design. It is located in a strip mall and parking can be an issue. They have indoor and outdoor seating. It is a busy place so timing is everything. Friendly, efficient service. Just a so-so wine selection and quite pricey. However, they do have a good beer selection with some on tap and some in bottles. The fried catfish and french fries are good but the fish is slightly too greasy. The portion of fries is huge and literally fills the whole plate. Very tasty hush puppies with a tasty dipping sauce. The gumbo is nice and smoky although a bit salty for me. Also, it could have used more chunks of meat and less rice. Not our usual type of restaurant with the higher sodium and carbs but can’t deny they know what they are doing.
MoreAwesome location when you are craving some good Southern comfort food. Creative food and drink menus. They make a ton of their own infused liquors and have a beautiful unique bar.I had the shrimp and grits along with an order of fresh pork rinds. I would definitely get them both again, they were excellent!Fast friendly service in a very cool setting.Cant wait to go back!
MoreOrdered their signature burger with gumbo and cornbread to start. Everything was so delicious. The cornbread was definitely the highlight. We had excellent service and such good food!
MoreThe only bad thing about The Parish is that there arent more seats available! The food is excellent. I didnt expect much considering these are Cajun tasting note in the middle of the desert, but I was extremely happy with the result! The corn bread is probably the best Ive ever eaten. The burger was among the best ever. The gumbo and jambalaya were as good as anything outside New Orleans. I really hope Tucson can appreciate how talented The Parishs cooking staff are.
MoreAte here with friends on a recommendation while weekending in the Tucson-Elgin-Bisbee area. Wow. Small wait for seating and a bit of a wait for food after we ordered but thats to be expected. This place is popular and packed. But they do it right. Our food was outstanding right down to the fries which were perfectly seasoned and crisp without being salty or greasy. We ordered our burgers "medium" and thats what we got. Our server was friendly and helpful. Nothing but a good experience here.
MoreThe food here is delightful, decadent and delicious. We were able to join the waitlist via Yelp before we made the 25 minute drive from our Airbnb to North Tuscon. We got there just as they were ready to seat us which I loved because this hungry girl didn’t have to wait! The decor is a funky and cool and the vibe is unique. Our server and service was great. She did a great job explaining the must haves on the menu and the why. Always love a server who can give you knowledgeable advice. We ordered the Drunken Angel which is very rich - I’d recommend this as a good dish to share because it may be too much if you eat the whole thing yourself! We also had the Backyard burger which was nicely done. And the hush puppies were awesome. Definitely recommend getting an order of those!
MoreOh my, the parish was truly an out of body experience. The cornbread was a tasty starter, but the drunken angel was SO SO GOOD. The best pasta dish I’ve had in a very long time. Creamy, a little spicy, and so rich! The staff is great and can tell you the most popular items and their personal recommendations. You NEED to try it!
MoreLocation is easy and theres reasonable parking. Service was great and seating was spacious. The space and decor were really fun. Theres outdoor seating which is awesome. Unfortunately there were a few things that were notable enough:1. Food was overly salted, from burger patty to pasta to garlic bread. It was tolerable at the start but after three bites, that sort of stuff builds up. It was hard to finish but we dont like to waste food and sending it back is not really a rude option we like to take.2. While seating was spaced out for COVID-19, it made no sense that the employees wouldnt wear masks. Its crowded in there and they see customers all day, so they have the highest risk as spreaders.
MoreI dont usually do reviews, but I cant say enough good things about the frog legs and gumbo. Being from Louisiana I can vouch for the gumbo being authentic (and my wife and sons make the best). I usually travel with Cajun seasoning (not hot), but this food had the best back home flavor. The legs were very juicy. I highly recommend!
MoreThe food and service were phenomenal. Our server, Lawson went above and beyond. He was attentive and extremely knowledgeable. Everything we had was truly amazing. I recommend the shrimp and grits, cornbread, and Brussel sprouts.
MoreThe service was ridiculously good. Out waitress gave us recommendations which we took - shrimp grits and the Parish Burger. If you don’t love eating these things you have broken taste buds. Can’t recommend enough.
MoreWe were looking for a good dinner place that was a little different and a bit fun. This place fit the bill. Our server, Chelsea, was awesome! She was very friendly and helpful. We ordered a couple appetizers; the bacon popcorn and black & blue brussel sprouts. Both were very tasty! There were 4 of us and we each ordered something different; every one of the dishes were quite tasty! Great little restaurant in an inconspicuous shopping center.
MoreThis is where you go for amazing, creative and flavorful drinks. Happy hour foods are on point and if youre craving a massive burger or some colorful, savory bites - stay for a memorable dinner! A top notch find in Tucson.
MoreSimply, The Parish is fantastic. The food here is amazing and the line out the door proves it. Everything on the menu is perfect from the gumbo to the burgers. If you like New Orleans and Southern food you need to check this place out.The restaurant has a great vibe with fun stuff to look at and the service was great.
MoreOne of my favorite places to eat in town! Cool vibes inside and out with great mountain views. The drunken angel pasta is hands down one of the best seafood meals Ive ever had and they do not skimp on the crawfish and shrimp, I have family members from out of town who still talk about how good this dish is.
