The Pantry Restaurant Nanaimo - Family restaurant in Nanaimo, Canada
Im.not sure what has happened. The food was extremely undesirable. The burger was so greasy. My son didnt finish it. My pork chop was was so very small and thin it looked like a piece of sandwich meat. Service was slow and not very friendly until they presented the bill. I am very disappointed with the complete experience this time. The washroom looked like it hadnt been maintained. Lock broken tissue was almost out. Tissue all over the floor and toilet. I am very sad to see how much this establishment has gone down in the few months since I was last here. It will be a very long time before I return
Nice to see the Pantry still exists. Mediocre restaurant but great service and food came fast too.
Good food with a special for seniors on Mondays.
Great food, friendly service....but I wasnt big on getting rushed out the door. The western burger is one of the best burgers, Ive ever had!
Really great food, the patio was nice to enjoy. Shaila was awesome and very friendly!
This food is absolutely disgusting my 2 year niece could make better food. . I had 2 bites and that was enough for myself. Would not recommend this to anyone. I would prefer to starve to death
Great food, for the most part the service was good, our bus-person worked hard and was there right when we needed him as he was attentive. Things went south when I over heard a comment from our waitress as I was coming back from the washroom and the total lack of appreciation for the gratuity. Tips are not an entitlement they are earned. Get over yourself.
The worst place to eat horrible staff never eating here again food was coldish
Great little restaurant. Nothing fancy but food was good and portions were generous. Coffee left something to be desired but overall good experience. Server was very nice and polite too
I ordered the "homemade" chicken pot pie. It was just okay, wouldnt order again though, the filling of the pot pie was kinda gritty, the crust felt a bit doughy. The salad on the other hand, was great. We sat on the patio, which is lovely. The server was nice.Parking is kinda terrible. So will most likely have to park in a further spot in a sketchy area. Unless you luck out as someone is leaving. The Pantry has been a restaurant my family has eaten at for over 30 years.
Have been here May 2022. The position are big and meal is tasty. Not expensive. The service was good too. Thanks.
Completely horrible service from the owner and staff I expressed that I was not happy with the portion size of my food and the quality I did not expect to be so small for paying $18.. Completely ripped me off. I wont be advising anyone I know to go here.
1st time experience here was not at all good resulting to me just leaving. 1st walking into the front doors you see a full garbage can and dirty floor. Being told to sit at one of 2 tables, Both of which had crumbs all over it clearly not cleaned properly. The menus thats were handed there was crumbs falling out of them and they clearly were not wiped at all for a long time. You would think after going through a pandemic for 2 years that the cleaning standards would be alot better for a restaurant....
Never again.Came here on the weekend and had terrible service. The waitress ignored us and when she did come to our table (after we flagged her downshe was not friendly at all.Food was very over-priced and small portions. A family with a couple kids should NOT pay $100 for breakfast!!! What is that about?!Probably the worst service Ive experienced. Food was mediocre.I suggest you look elsewhere... wish we did.
The service was lack luster constantly having to ask and re ask for the same thing until we got it (coffee refill or juice that was supposed to come with the food. Portion sizes were small for the price... And got over charged for an add-on where they up charged even though we pointed directly at the addon. To clarify, the drinks were part of the kids meals (it specifically said on the menu it comes with drinks ), as for the add-on as we ordered pancakes to add-on sausages was $2.99, however charges $3.99? In any case we dont live there and wont go back. On-top of all that the staff member wasnt very pleasant.
Service was horrible. Coffee was empty for 20+ min. With our waitreas walking by us paying no attention to us. We ordered food then she didnt even get food. Ended up leaving. Worst service i have ever had
I hadnt eaten here since the pandemic began. It wasnt as good as I remember. The staff was new and not overly friendly. The mashed potatoes were only semi-mashed and the roast beef was luke warm.
60+ Menu! Great choices! $13.49 for fish and chips and if you go there on a Monday, an additional 50% off, with a beverage.I enjoyed my fish with a salad, which was quite satisfying. Cant beat the price!Tip: if you are super hungry, best to order from the regular menu, as the Prime Timers portions are smaller.
This is hands down the worst food Ive ever had eating out, food was so bland and underseasonedWaitresses were rude and very short with us I highly recommend never going here
Went to dine in at the restaurant on Tuesday February 22 2022. Got there around 445pm. No one took drink orders or asked if I knew what I wanted. I sat for 15 minutes until someone took my order. Sat until 530 pm. Nothing no decafe coffee or food. I saw others coming and getting drinks and ordering and getting food before me. I left. I go to the restaurant 4 -5 times a week. The service is getting bad. I know the shortage of staff due to the regulations. It is getting ridiculous. Very disappointed
We have been wanting to try this little eatery for a while now. What a disappointment. I wanted the Eggs Benedict with hash browns, it looked wonderful as I watched it come down the isle. Nice Hollandaise sauce hash browns looked like they had a nice color. I cut through my first half, the eggs were hard not a bit of yellow yolk puddle did I get. Then the hash browns, counterfeit, thats what they were. The cook had browned some and put them on top of the pile. The rest were crunchy, almost raw.Sure I could have complained etc. and too what end. We will not go back. Nanaimo has an absolutely amazing bunch of awesome eateries, the Pantry however isnt one of them. 🙈
Dropped in at the recommendation of a cashier at another store - what a find! Monday is busiest day for seniors, may have lineups for half-price special. Food was excellent and service wonderful. Parking is only drawback as it is at one end of a long plaza but I would trudge through a long way to return.
One of my favourite places to eat BUT they keep closing earlier than their posted hours. Several times Ive been there just after 6PM and they are already closed even though there are other customers coming up and trying the door, not to mention Skip The Dishes & Door Dash orders being forfeited. They are not understaffed, so whats up with that? Just called a half hour ago at 6:15 on a Saturday evening and, yes, they were already closed.
I just phoned the Port Place location to get a pick up order. The phone was answered with music blaring in ear and was told it was closed. Their website states they are open until 8:00pm. It was 6:30 pm when I called. Whats up with that? Its not the first time this has happened. Who is responsible for having the correct information on the site?
Service was okay. I just had the worst shredded hashbrown Ive ever had in my life. It was so bitter that I had to drown it in ketchup so I could finish my meal. If only I wasnt raised to not waste food.
The ladies who work here are absolutely amazing. When we go for breakfast this is the only place we go! Theyre super friendly and each and every one are wonderful! ❤ see you soon!
So I didn’t actually go here even though it was the plan. The reason was of the location. I’m sorry i know location choices sometimes isn’t a choice from a business perspective. You take what you’re given and can afford. However from a consumer perspective the amount of sketchy places and homeless people (i sympathize for the homeless i really do. So does my wife. But she’s terrified by them that they might do unpredictable thingsmade for a tough decision for someone new like a tourist like myself. I was warned about nanaimo but decided to give it a chance anyway. Well, i have to say downtown is a bit rough around the edges. I do wish this establishment all the best and I’m sure based on the reviews the food is actually great. If I’m the mayor? You’ve got some cleanup, out reach, programs and job training on your hands.
Not bad, not as good as I recall it was a year ago. Like many they are suffering the toll the pandemic has placed on everybody. Good workers are very difficult to find these days. I will keep supporting them, as I know they work hard doing the very best they possibly can.
The vegetarian burgers were great. The restaurant was really cold though, we were seated right by the window. Good family restaurant. Food was lovely.
Great place for breakfast and the server was very polite and helpful. We ordered a Belgian waffle and a veggie omlette and it was yummy. Good coffee. No regrets.
Giving this restaurant 2 stars because once we actually got the food, after waiting for an hour, it was delicious! The service, horrible. We were seated immediately, waited so long for the waitress to take a drink order, cutlery my asking from the napkins, asked three different waitresses for milk and sugar, never received. The cow 🐄 must have been pretty far back there...So disappointed because we wanted to try something different besides our usual "go to". Never again. An hour! Unacceptable!
Wonderful greetings, Amber was awesome. This was the first time in a very long time that a server ever asked me if I wanted more hot water for my tea. Tyvm!Food was hot and good.
Very delicious Breakfast. Delicious food, exquisite house coffee, amazing staff, especially Amber. Amber took care of our table and did an excellent job. Cheerful, happy, efficient, and more over, convinced us to have a cup of their coffee ☕. We are Brazilian and very picky with our coffee that you aim to be expresso. Amber told us to try their coffee saying we wouldnt regret and she was absolutely right. Excellent coffee indeed. We will go back there for sure for Breakfast in our next visit to Nanaimo.
This place is hit or miss lately. The food quality is down. The chicken fingers were dry and hard, the mashed potato tasted like school glue and the soup was quite salty, much like my review. Also if the servers see you too much, they are likely to take their time with you...a little too much time. I will still give them a chance but not on a day to day basis. Maybe today will be better.
It was very busy when we went for lunch. The small restaurant was packed. It took over 30 minutes from the time we ordered to get our food to the table. The food itself was good and the server polite.
Not actually open the hours they say they are. Pretty inconvenient having ordered food, but by the time they cancelled it, about halfway through the expected delivery time, it’s too late to order elsewhere. When I called to ask them why I wasn’t offered any explanation either, nor did they try to make it up to me. I could hear lots of people dining in the background, so they were clearly still open.
Normally worthy of a higher score, tonight was a great disappointment. Waitress dressed in black skinny jeans and a grey hoodie refused to make us and the next table decaf coffee because we wouldnt drink the whole lot. Then fish and chips were harshly over cooked with tiny portion of fish, (even for a seniors portion). Also no offer of dessert. When told to the waitress, her reply was that this was why she only ever ate a select few dishes from the menu. Then she changed her mind and said that they were training a new cook and shrugged her shoulders. Thank goodness for the regular waitress (dressed in her regular Pantry uniformwho is always smiling and is an excellent waitress.Very inconsistent since weve been going back to restaurants over the last couple months... Hope they get it together again soon.Oh, and the website states that the servers all wear masks and yet, the only people wearing masks were the customers.
From the Seniors Menu: the fish-and-chips was well prepared, and tasty dessert is included! Generous portions. Attentive staff.During Covid-restrictions, its lovely to be able to sit outside safe, with protocols in place, and enjoy a meal. On the terrace, in the sun.
Very nice breakfast spot.Cleaned constantly, with Covid dividers. And friendly staff. My grill breakfast and pancakes was very tasty, and obviously filling.
I went here for the first time yesterday with my boyfriend and his mom and I gotta say the food was immaculate!! I was so pleased with the quality of the food and the service. We were grateful to have this wonderful lady named Amber serve us and she was such a joy and had such positive energy!! She was such a sweetheart! Big thumbs up to this place👍🏻👍🏻
Oh wow this place was bad. First the waitress threw the menus on the table without a word. When she did return she rudely said "what do you want to order?". We asked for drinks (she never thought to askbut didnt see them till we begged for them and even than no cream for our tea. Again had to walk up to them for it. The food was cold. I got a Reuben and it was soggy and cold. My friends meal was hot at least. Yep.. terrible.
I just returned from having one of the best breakfast along with perfect service at The Pantry Restaurant this morning. Coffee was great and plentiful and my corned beef hash was amazing accompanied by perfectly cooked eggs. I am pleased I didn’t skip this place because of some negative reviews because this is a hidden gem. The ladies were all wearing masks and following covid 19 protocols. Lastly, to the Pantry Crew, THANK YOU and stay safe to you all. Looking forward to my next breakfast experience. Warren
out of the 3 times I’ve been here, I’ve dealt with some rude waiters. All had little respect as if they couldn’t deal with any of the costumers. However the food is good and one waitress with short white wavy hair and glasses was sweet. This place needs waiters that understand not all costumers are the same. They should consider being patient with people who don’t speak English too because my family’s Filipino and English speakers talk really fast.
Now it is a great disservice to the people of Vancouver Island that a single IHOP doesnt exist on the island. However, I have found the Pantry to be a great alternative, even if they dont have chicken and waffles. Also if you have three cups of whatever they have for coffee, it will supe you up faster than the Flash. I wanted to run a god damn marathon after that breakfast!
We had a great server and the food was delicious!
Stopped by before the ferry ride home. Had the waffles and buffalo chicken tenders, definitely a filling meal I was hungry. Its good food, Id relate it to a Dennys or a Rickys, we dont have a pantry in Richmond anymore, but I was satisfied with the service, server and food. I wouldnt complain going there again.
First of, the waitress was delightful. She was fun and engaging and quite helpful with our questions. The meal was well proportioned and decently priced. The shaded patio was great on a warm evening. All in all, from start to finish, we enjoyed pur meal and experience.
We sat outside in the covered patio area, which is quite pleasant, given the strip mall location. There was no problem with our only ordering a coffee and a soft drink. We ended up also ordering a plate of yam fries to share. It was a generous serving, perfectly cooked, arrived at the table piping hot...at a reasonable price. Good service, friendly, attentive but not intrusive.
Good food and a decent price.
No passion resteraunt, I ordered classic two egg breakfast and for 10 bucks!!! I got little food. The hash browns and toast was slightly burnt and thinly spread across the plate to make it seem like more. Insulting! I’m a tipper even in the worst conditions because waitresses and waiters work hard. But at 13.20 for a coffee and a two egg breakfast leaves little room for gratuity over an already skinny plate. Wake up pantry! Start caring or move on. People should be happy with service because in today’s economy most of us consider eating out a treat. I would understand if they were busy but there was 3 tables participating in a drone of experiences. Staff was friendly. I’m sorry to write this review for the sake of the little people just trying to make a living. Shame on the owner, and corporate.
