Vintage American eatery for traditional fare with Gold Rush-inspired decor & a Western-style tavern.
Our first dining in experience since covid. It was great food and a good safe experience for my family. Kids menu was good and portions were large.
After my self and wife where asked to leave after we made reservations at a table we request every couple weeks, by the owner and said she had kicked out 5 other locals that day because we all though we owned her restaurant, your right we dont, but we paid your bills, I fill sorry for the employees. I would like to see how she feels about the locals now
Fantastic. Beautiful restaurant. We visited July 2020. The pandemic response is terrific. There is one way in, you wait to place your order in a central location, pay, and head to your seat. This results in a fewest interaction with wait staff and no touch experience. It may be helpful to take a peak at the menu before you go. Mask required to enter. Patio seating available. Wait staff kind and competent. Delicious food!
Such amazing food ! There was steak on the specials list last night and it was one of the best steaks I have had. Would totally recommend this place to anyone who likes quiet fine dining w amazing food.
Great food and the best fries to go with their burgers. They use quality ingredients and it really shows. Kosher salt on thick cut fries is a match made in heaven.
We have always lived this place, butbwill not ever go back thanks to a woman calling herself the owner/manager. She apparently had 5 other people in her face tonight & I can see why. She considers the customer is always right is "old school" way of thinking! Good luck with that!
Wonderful waitress! Went with my grandson today to celebrate my sisters birthday. She died this Sept. She and I always celebrated our Dads birthday in January each year. I had chicken and dumplings which was her favorite. My grandson had ginger honey salmon. All so yummy and a wonderful celebration of our family ❤️
Enjoyed a fantastic meal here. Staff and food were excellent. I have a slightly quirky diet and the staff and chefs couldn’t have been more accommodating. I can highly recommend.
I tried my 1st American burger here and it was the best one in my life! I took French brie, caramelized onions and champignons for toppings and it couldnt be a better choice! If my belly was bottomless I could eat it forever!
Waited an 1:15 for our order, the woman behind the bar we spoke to about the issue wasn’t really sure of our complaint! She was the most unfriendly person we have run into to Durango and she exclaimed she was the owner. She was kind enough to “comp” our food that never came. I don’t like to complain but when you are in the people business, you may want to be more accommodating to your patrons spending money on food and beverages at “YOUR” establishment. (Looks like this echoes a lot of other experiences aka complaints). Welcome to 2019 lotsa places to go! Support with your dollars!
I gave it a two star, because this is our first time coming to Durango. We were walking and we saw the menu outside. Some gentleman that was sitting closed by heard us talking and he said that the Palace was great. But we decided to go somewhere else but everything point it to come back to your location. The hostess was great, the waiter kind of took too long to take our order. But she did, my wife got the salmon with pasta and it was great, I had the St Louis ribs, not too good. The bbq sauce was not good. I had the 2/3rds and it was divided in two. My first part was good except for the sauce, bit my second part was terrible!!!! I told my wife to taste it and she said the same thing I was thinking without me telling her. It tasted like if it had been sitting in the fridge for a long time and it was just put in the microwave to get reheated!! The waiter was new so I understand that she was still learning!! So thanks Kimber!!Wont be coming back again!!!
This is a good choice for bar type food snacks etc out on the patio. This is tucked in be hide the railroad depot. They have some very innovative drink mixes, that may appeal. It is family friendly
The waiter messed up the order for one of us. The trout almondine with one side. He brought all our food and the side for the trout. We called him back that something was missing. The trout! So he order the trout and served it about the time every one else was done. When we were billed the trout was charged along with an additional charge for the side. In my opinion as a past restaurant owner, the meal of that guest should not have been charged. As a result the waiter recieved zero tip.
Good service and good food. We liked the setting outside next to the train station.
" Hidden Gem" not really I have always wanted to say that. Great atmosphere appetizer were Hatch Chile con queso and a assorted local cheese, sausage, pickles, olives plate. Burgers for me was a local grown. Salad was on point. Price was great considering other menus around Durango. To the owner dont change a thing!! Thanks.
Took forever to get our drinks. Food was not worth the price. No kids menu. It is nice that you get to watch the trains come into the station. Staff was friendly.
The food was good but not exceptional. There were people there but it wasn’t near full and we waited 40 minutes for our food. The server looked like she was overbooked and service was sub standard.Maybe we just came on a bad night. There is potential for better here and it seems that was the case for others, just not us.
Was great to eat at. Have a great view of the train station and the train. Patio is large. Beautiful inside. Great service. The only thing that would make it 5 stars is to lower the price of meals or increase the portions. The bread and butter was delicious.
This place has fantastic food! The service is fantastic- our waiter was very personable and attentive. We started with the beets as an app. Then had a petite filet medium, a wonderful house salad, steamed carrots and the bestest sweet potato fries ever!! Definitely recommend
This place was A-mazing! Had the sirloin medium and a side salad. SO good. I was a party of 12 ish, everyone at every bit of their food! Long island ice teas are super strong! Lobster Mac was awesome! At least 5 ppl ordered the Ruben and house soup of the day! Chef/owner/server were all super good attentive!
They were very welcoming, Damien is the best waiter possible. If you can, get him to be your waiter! The food is so good, its like its cheering for you! This is a great place. Next time you come to Durango, make sure this is one of your stops!(Thats Damien)
Our waiter was amazing food was good!! Drinks where decent but the waiter made up for it with getting everything we needed! Price is high but worth every penny!
Quality of menu items and service is consistently great. Wide variety of dishes and specialty salads on menu and they have daily specials available for lunch as well. I and other locals are frequent customers. I especially love some things that are appetizers but the portion size is just right for a meal. Pot stickers, calamari, Mediterranean platter. Also their rueben sandwiches are very tasty. Used to be the old Palace Hotel built in the late 1880s. Right next to train depot for convenient meal before or after train ride. And you can watch the trains leave and return.
Always delicious! One of my favorite places to eat. The lobster mac & cheese is amazing and the burger never disappoints. There usually isnt much of a wait either! Highly recommended.
The food may be great here but Id give the staff ZERO stars if I could. Our group sent a representative to The Palace to see if we could reserve tables and use The Palace as a place to rest between gigs (we were performing at Snowdownand order some beers. The staff confirmed that the time we wanted would be fine. When we all showed up later that evening, we found the place closed, doors locked and two staff members inside staring at us. When one finally came to the door, he said that the staff member who had accepted the reservation earlier that day should not have done so and that they had been closed for two hours. He also blamed us, saying that our representative should have left a phone number. This really messed up our evening schedule and the staff at The Palace should be better trained in 1What the hours of business for the establishment are and 2How to take a phone number when receiving a reservation, especially a group reservation.I hope they better train the people who prepare the food. Im sure its great but Ill never know. The Palace just lost of the business of a large group that comes to town for Snowdown every single year.
Used to be our fav but after a disappointing xmas eve dinner, with an advanced reservation, pretty much have a changed opinion. Res made for 2 with a requested bar table 2 weeks in advance, stopped in day of inquiring about increasing to 4 ppl since we ran into old friends, figured the answer would be no & not a problem for us, however when we not only were seated in a different area called the "library" where we watched 3 different parties finish their dinners within 30 mins of us arriving, why werent we given the option of changing our reservation time by 30 mins more?! Not to mention, one of the other primary reasons we went there was to eat their (normally delicuousescargot. It was horrible, chewy & touch, camouflaged and drowned in garlic & butter. We wont be back any time soon! Disappointed in Durango - not a merry christmas eve for us!
Been here twice in December and have always enjoyed our visit, the service is great and the food is good, the charm and ambiance is cozy and historic. Located directly next to the historic Durango train station this is a great place. Lots of gluten free items for my daughter who has celiac, and a good happy hour. Menu items are a bit pricey but that is to be expected in a downtown area.
Delightful evening dining right near the train museum and tracks. Nice, roomy patio, which can be very noisy by day with the trains going by. Pleasant waiters, prompt service. We had the elk stew, the breaded shrimp and the chicken with veggies and angel hair pasta. All were tasty.
Really nice place right next to the Durango Silverton Rail Station. Had the delicious Palace Chicken sandwich with Cole slaw. Friendly and helpful wait staff, casual and not rushing to turn tables. Great patio seating.
Had dinner here and I highly recommend the chicken and dumplins. You cannot go wrong with this dish. It is listed as a house specialty and there are other good things on the menu, but someone in your group needs to order this dish. It was great. You do have to order the free bread and make sure you ask for it first thing or you will get it after you have eaten. We all were full so we missed dessert.
Great staff. Limited menu, kind of wish there were more options. Got the Burger. Wish the tomato was either bigger, or I got more than one. My brother got the ribs and that was fantastic. Inside was very unique.
Never had salmon or steak that melted in my mouth with every bite. Its on the pricey side but well worth it. Everything was delicous!
Chicken and dumplings was super, fish and chips was great as well. Adult beverages were great, and it was nice to be greeted by calling us folks and not guys..... Bartender was super, everyone was friendly. We will return for sure.
We had a party of 12, Celeste was our server, who kept track of people coming in a different times, all beverages and food was served promptly, which was amazing! All of our choices were delicious. Best beet appetizer EVER!Thanks Paul and all of the staff at the Palace for once again making it a wonderful place to meet.
Food was immaculate! Staff was very nice and very attentive. Order was accurate, wait was slightly long, but for the quality of food it was very well worth it. Definitely made me a returning customer!
It had an interesting atmosphere and the salad was decent, unfortunately those were the only redeeming qualities. Service was incredibly slow. Steak was edible, barely. I ordered a medium steak, it came out rare. Sent it back and it was returned overcooked. The waitress asked "maam did you want any pink in your steak?" I ordered a MEDIUM steak! Any self respecting chef would not have sent that out.
Delicious food, and great service. The cheesecake was fabulous. For dinner I had the penne pasta with chicken. It was really good, although it came with a red sauce when its supposedly supposed to come with olive oil? A little pricey, with chicken added it was almost $20. My boyfriend got the chicken and dumplings, its his favorite in all of Durango.
Nice atmosphere; helpful staff. Green Chile Soup was more like a stew served on rice. Deliciious. Friend had the Reuben. Nicely presented and hot... not just warmed over.
Nice place. Cool location next to the train with a patio that over looks the trains. Bar menu is good with fair prices. Decor and atmosphere is out of date but I guess thats what they are shooting for. Old West feel.
I have several comments on the Palace. As a local, I read a lot of the reviews and it appears the Palace isnt doing real well in many visitors eyes. My comments: I have eaten at the Palace at least 15 times or more and I agree that the excellent service has slipped somewhat. On our last couple of visits, the wait staff didnt act like they really wanted to be there. Service is inconsistent because we have almost always had top notch service here. As far as price, as compared to other restaurants here in downtown Durango, they are competitive. In general, when other restaurant have people waiting to get in and you can walk right in here, then maybe something needs to be reviewed to see why. The food has always been good. Personal favorites: chicken and dumplings and duck w/honey almond. By the way, if you are from the Palace and read this, please bring back the pate. Many of us miss it. My two cents. And for anyone reading this, I really do recommend it. I like the atmosphere and the food and the service and I hope you do too. BTW, I have no association with this restaurant whatsoever.
We went here to grab a to go meal to take back to our hotel. Ill say right off the bat that the salad I got was very good, but the service we received for the short time we were there was kind of terrible. Most of the wait staff ignored us. When we walked up to the bar, the bar tenders we talking with each other and didnt acknowledge us for an awkward amount of time and the male bar tender just walked off while another employee was cussing. On our way out one of the wait staff threw the door open and didnt hold it for us so I had to brace it with my body and it was a very heavy door. Im of a slight build and I found it inappropriate.
Kids food was good but to wait over an hour with 3 little kids to get the main course which was the special for the night. Also told 15 minute wait for table which took 25. Communication between staff lacks, especially for a summer tourist season. Durango is known for fine dining, diners beware! Wont be back to this spot anytime soon. Along with that I will tell everyone that I know. It is sad to say this was the second time it happen, I tried again and it was the same service.
Service was not the best, had to keep asking other servers for assistance. Burgers were dried out and tough. Bun was very crisp and burnt in spots. Burger could not have been 100% beef. Grandson had to send his side back because it was cold and the cheese sauce was just strips of cheese. It took 20 minutes for the side to get back to the table and everyone else was done eating. We ate there about 15 years ago and on a $104 ticket, 3 of us each left a $10 tip. Waitress chased us down the street demanding more money for her tip. We told her we felt it was adequate especially since she and her boyfriend stood in the corner making out. We told her she should be fired for chasing a customer down the street. One person in our party told her to give us the tip back. Never again will we eat there.
Food was good. Environment was cozy and comfortable. Prices were a bit steep.
The food! Absolutely every part of my meal was tasty. Nothing was bland or plain or boring. I honestly expected very little from things like rice or pasta but each new dish peeked my taste buds. I had the Elk Chili Colorado. Fantastic! The prices are high so save up and make this a treat.
We ordered fried beets, caprese sandwich and chicken cordon bleu. All the food was fresh, hot and delicious. Our server April was very friendly and attentive. We ended the meal with bread pudding which was a perfect.
I do not recommend this place at all. I expected a lot more for the amount we we paid. Nothing we ordered seemed fresh or homemade. And I ordered my steak medium well and I could hardly cut through or chew it. Service was very average. On our one meal out in Durango I really wish we had chosen a different place.
We made a reservation for our anniversary in hopes to have a nice evening out. The hostess sat us in the tavern for convenience and instead of having a nice romantic evening (that wed reserved), it was just a night in the tavern that was loud. The main corse was pretty good, but my meat in the pasta was over cooked. Wed been to the restaurant about a month earlier and I ordered creme brûlée and it was runny. We used to like this place, but the service isnt very good and the attention to detail for the food is declining. Too bad, used to look forward to a nice night out there.
Dont waste your time or money in this place. Very convenient for train goers such as us however food extremely overpriced and underwhelming. Best food served to our table tonight, the kids Mac and cheese. Steak cooked incorrect 2x, no seasoning and "topper" was supposed to be sautéed looked like boiled no flavor what so ever.Staff was in constant term oil from the time we walked in the door waitstaff arguing with managers and flying doors coming out of the kitchen. Such a horribly big disappointment.
We were very disappointed in our experience. We wanted a nice meal to celebrate my sons graduation from Ft. Lewis. The food was pricey- which would have been fine if it warranted it. 3 of our steaks were cooked incorrectly and had to be redone, the mashed potatoes tasted like instant, all the food lacked seasoning and the dessert - berry crisp- lacked flavor. Between vacations and visiting our son, we have frequented a lot of wonderful eating establishments in Durango, this is not one of them. We wont be going back.
