The Oxy Pub in Nanaimo

Staff are all super nice, chill atmosphere. One of my faves for wing night and its conveniently right across the road from my work - couldnt get any better !

Hasnt changed. No food service, just a dark smelly puub in a decent location. Original nanaimo

The Oxy Pub (Occidental Puband hotel was built in 1886 and has been a part of Nanaimo forever. It has been reformed many times and looks quite nice at present. In my opinion, it caters mostly to the local hard working blue collar citizens and the beer and menu are very reasonably priced but not the best. They have big TVs for sports and a corner with pool tables. It has a few parking spots and is close to a beer and wine. I mostly come here for an afternoon pint and worry about a late Friday night here. Its also easy walking distance to downtown.

Authentic Nanaimo breakfast experience. They use quality eggs and bacon with classic breakfast sausages. Their prices have more than doubled the past few years. However, a 12 dollar breakfast is still a bargain.

We like the food here. Also tunes and people arent too bad

Got fish and chips the fish was good but the chips were outstanding homemade and perfectly cooked had Philly cheese steak this time was very good besides aus jue being bland

It"s a Nanaimo icon. Been there forever and has always been a traditional pub/restaurant. Familiar, old school and comfortable. Still has wood fenestration and cheerful servers. Gotta love the old Oxy

Amazing experience. Staff is so polite and on top of everything. So glad to have going there again. Thank you Oxy pub for a great time.

Wont be going back. We were treated very poorly, after we have been supportive of them through the pandemic and for years before that.

Have been here many times with my Dad, and he always wants to go back! Some of the best spicy wings too!! Me and my dad will 100% be back!!!

Food was fabulous. The place is very noisy. The sever was not very efficient. The food was served promptly. I will go again during a less busy time

Had a great night at the Oxy last night. Lots of fun with Karaoke and Todd DJ ing. Talented and fun staff made for a awesome night out. 😃

First time going. Heard mixed reviews but was pleasantly surprised. Nice & clean & staff were friendly.

The Longwood IPA is not drinkable ,nice working mens pub ,I wish they would change to Wolf IPA.

Used to be best wings in town with good service, but now seems barely struggling to life. Prices up, quality down and service is barely there. Plenty of better places to go in town.

Steak sandwich was tough and not juicy and not med rare like I asked, closer to med well.Fries were only 1/2 cooked and limp, whitish looking.Garlic toast was flat and soggy like a dish cloth and only toasted on one side, other side of toast was like wet bread.Cook came out standing beside waitress after I finished and was looking directly at me from across the room as he commented about my bushy eye browes.This was insulting to me after he made such a horrible dinner.I dont return food unless it is off tasting.The waitress gave good service and offered to return the dinner but i dont like to waste food.I ate the steak even though it was like chewing leather.I will not be returning.

I like this spot, has an old school dive bar kinda feel. Not too dive bar-ish, just dive bar-ish enough. Decent food. They serve legit 20 oz pints. I hate bars that call 16 oz. a pint. Server was very nice and friendly. Only server in the whole place, working the bar too, and still served everyone efficiently. Id come back and drink with the locals.

Great local pub for a beer n a bite. I had the Thursday wings , 75c !! Lots of flavors . Loved it , local vibe. Old historic building

Karaoke was engaging, it ran the gamut from spine tingling to ear splitting but the one thing that it was for certain was entertaining.

Love the atmosphere, great staff, I believe well keep it to a drinking establishment. Food was fine but nothing special.

Visiting chef from Tofino, just picked up the Reuben sandwich at 630 Halloween night, beautiful, great staff too, very friendly barmaid,Great homecut fries. Im a lover of Ruebens, the mustard in the sandwich is the bomb, cheers Oxy

Some shady looking characters in and around this place. You have to love the history of it though. Friendly staff. Good selection of beer.

I walked in with a cloth mask on and was told that was not acceptable after I was seated. Its acceptable everywhere else I go. I used to love coming here. I will not be back. Ever.

I had a great experience here. I was shopping at Jysk and the cashier was raving about their wings so I gave em a try. Was not disappointed. The flavor was fantastic and they were cooked perfectly. Nice and meaty too. The price was fantastic. Couldnt believe it when I saw the bill. You get your bang for the buck here for sure. BTW I ordered the Blue Moon wings. Yummy.

Oldie and a goodie. The Oxy has a lot of history, but for some of us its more important that were part of making our own history here. With great staff, food and typically a night of karaoke or music trivia, as well as my personal favorite - WING NIGHTS - youll find a mix of young and old alike spending a night of food, drinks, and a good time! Laid back Pub style with plenty of space to make some memories.

Beer is cold, the food is so so and the price is medium. Dont order the hotdog, youll feel let down, its just a fifty cent hotdog. Go for the drinks because your thirsty but there are better places to eat for the buck.

Really great staff and atmosphere. Food was good and priced well. Great place to eat and experience the local people. Definitely coming back.

This is what I think a traditional pub looks like. Nice atmosphere, attentive and caring staff, and todays Steak-Sandwich special was perfect. Great value for the price! Will come back for other menu items.

I never ever had such bad food. The burger patty was straight out of the freezer and by far the worst quality Ive ever seen. I would rather pay the same price for a standard McDonalds Hamburger than for this. The fries were just not done and the wings were 100 % also out of the freezer and then just got marinaded with a standard bbq sauce. NEVER AGAIN.

Fast service, nice servers, great prices and even better wings, Thursday night special! Will be back probably every Thursday from now on! Pineapple curry wings were awesome. I wide range of folks that come, all ages and backgrounds!!!! Very entertaining.

We came in with 4 of us for dinner and drinks on a Sunday. The vibe you get when you first come in is different. Yet once we got a drink and got comfortable it was a really great place. They have ciders on tap, and give them a large glass. The food was good as well. We had a variety of appies.

Typically an older crowd, but its a cosy place to play some pool/billiards and have some dinner and drinks. They have fairly decent traditional pub-style foods, overall its not expensive, and (personallyI enjoy this place because it is soo close to the downtown bus depot - its very easy to catch the last bus home after having some drinks.

This place was amazing! $11 mini jugs of long islands. The servers were friendly and fun and the atmosphere was like no other! It was karaoke when I was there and the way everyone got right into the music was beyond words! So much fun 🤗

Once you walk through the door you arrive in a comfortable pub that opened in 1887. These historic buildings are few and far between. Aside from the classic brick and friendly atmosphere, we found the service and the food varied from very good to excellent. When your in the neighbourhood drop in and soak in some Nanaimo history while enjoying your favourite beverage with lunch. Long may it run, cheers.

Its a very old place. The building was constructed somewhere in middle of 1850s. Isnt that amazing. It was started to cater to the railway station rush which is now called coach and horses. The staff is good. They have good seating capacity. Tv screens are also there. Washrooms are very old though. They can be more tidy but thats understandable.Doesnt look like more for youngsters as level 2 is.They have got small meeting place too if somebody wants to hold a meeting there in the basement.

Old fashioned city pub. A little rough around the edges. Darts and a small pool table. Good selection of beers. Ecellent value food menu. We ate chicken wings and potato skins, both really tasty and freshly made.

Great place to have a beer and chill out. Super serving staff and daily food specials are filling and very reasonably priced. Wing nights on Thursdays are a worthwhile visit. Clientele are friendly in an old-fashioned bar atmosphere.

Food is great BUT the service has declined. The waitress does not have a cheerful disposition even when you try to be extra polite. Her rolling of eyes to one of us and the refusal to name the beers on tap to another left us nothing short of embarrassed in front of our guests. Others have since told us of similar experiences.
