The Oxford Cafe in Missoula

It’s a nice place and they are short staffed, but there’s no excuse for taking almost two hours to serve a plate when the diner is empty. The cook took 30 minutes to make one omelette, because he can only cook one dish at a time. The chicken fried steak is basically fried cardboard. It’s so bad it’s almost performance art.

Classic. Truly an experience and it can vary on what kind of experience when you go. Have fun

Chicken fried steak with JJ sauce is the best chicken fried steak youll ever have. ...but Butt Beware.Cheeseburgers are always great here too! Fries could be crunchier tho.

Sat at the filthy bar (all the tables that were empty were also full of dirty dishes). We were completely ignored, so after 5 mins - we left and it wasn’t even busy. Numerous staff walked past us and at one point it looked like someone was going to wipe down the counter and clear the dishes…but key on walking and didn’t. Most of the people in there looked wasted.I think this place is where kitchen staff go to die.

Went in with 3 friends and sat down at 10:45. We ordered at sat and waited for 3 hamburgers until midnight. We were fed up and left. I got up to pay and 3 patrons cussed me out and wanted to fight me for leaving. I tried to pay for everyone’s meals and was then followed out by 2 large men trying to get into a fight with me and my friends. I will not be going back.

Ive eaten at more restaurants than there are reviews for this establishment. This is the real deal. Iconic Montana bar with 24/7 food and a display of classic firearms. If you dont like this place, there are a million generic places that are more suited to your sensibilities.

An odd spot. They didnt get my order right. And you have to place orders through different people for food and drinks. Not my fav spot.

As an old man who is a pundit of dive bars I can honestly rank this as a top tener dive bar in the country. Went here for beers and breakfast at 1am on a weekday night and this place delivered the goods. If you want an umbrella in your cocktail stay the hell away from the Ox!

Showed up late lastnight after 10pm. They are open 24 hrs but their cook had been pulling a much longer then expected shift. They still served us. We had come to Missoula to puchase a wheelchair elevator. It took us longer then expected to dismantle /load it. And we were extremely tired. This place had great food and very friendly staff. Our meal was only $17. But we tipped $75... $50 for the cook and $25 for the waiter! I would definitely recommend this place!

Dont kid yourself. There are very few places out there who can do what this place does consistently. Theyre not elevating diner food to an art or anything, but they are still, in a tiny town in Montana, transitioning folks from totally drunk to walking dead on a nightly basis--and by the way, serving up highly tasty breakfast, brunch, and burgers to anyone that stops in, 24-7. Over the 20 years Ive been coming here their commitment to their process has never wavered and theyre a diner worth a visit for the basics, at any time of day, if youre in the neighborhood. Its a dying art, but the ox has it down.

I sat on the bar, food side, and was waited on promptly. There were a few televisions and plenty of black & white photos to keep my interest as I waited. Took maybe 10 minutes to put together as other orders were ahead. Ice cold water, deliciously buttered toast, scrumptious hash browns and the Garbage Omelet! Rick really knows how to work that grill and this is on of my new favorite places to stop in for late night food.

If youre Indigenous dont bother the service was poor and the wait was ridiculous, if u speak up your the savage in the room. I WAS COMPLETELY DISAPPOINTED and we wait for half an hour no one spoke to us except for another patron to tell us we werent going to get service to leave. Came from Alberta to check it out, never again. Not worth the hype.

We went on a Wednesday around 7 am. The cook waited on us and made us a huge breakfast. Most delicious we tasted in Missoula. He was friendly and courteous. He knows how to cook. Definitely recommend.

Good for and decent prices. Like everywhere, they were understaffed so service was slower than desired, but did was good and the chef worked hard to satisfy all the customers.

A missoula throwback, mediocre food wierd enviroment. Best described as blue collar. I wouldnt consider this a date spot, more of a relationship ender spot.

The bartender and staff are fascist commies! and are committing bias crimes against their customers. They treat traveling people like homeless people and refuse service and treat you poorly.The only reason Im giving them two stars instead of one is the food is absolutely delicious.If you deny your fellow citizens their rights you do not deserve your own!

Good food, took a while to get served and get fed. Would visit again, if i had extra quarters. They have a led zeppelin pinball machine that looked to be in good condition.

Love love love the ox .. its a regular stop for us so the employees there are like family! I would say I visit there almost daily - either to eat or to just play a $5

Definitely the worst rib eye steak ever. Dollar store ones would have been better. 3/4 of the steak was pure fat. I know rib eyes have fat but this was ridiculous. Staff was rude and too many over served patrons. Wont be coming back to this establishment.

One of my favorite late night burger spots. Great time after 10pm. Tip well. They work hard. Sit at the bar. Fries are hot. Fri/Sat/Sun nights are very busy. Garbage omelet is great, double ox burger also.

Tasty bacon cheese burger. A little extra greasy but good. The fries were underwhelming. The wait staff was very polite and attentive. Price was fair for the portion size. Atmosphere was very smoky old diner in a nostalgic way. Tables were all largely dirty but they appeared to be understaffed. The present staff were working their butts off. Will definitely go back.

Anytime I am in Missoula, getting a JJs special is a must. The spicy gravy is amazing, I have tried so hard to replicate it at home, but just cant get it like theirs. They always make the hasbrowns nice and crispy. The staff is always friendly and amazing. Since they are always open, you have no excuse not to stop in and get a JJs special. Treat your belly and tastebuds to this Dive Bar delicacy.

The food is very very good with plenty of options. And you cant ask for much more than a bar and a diner all in the same room. However, the wait is my reasoning for just 3 stars. With just one cook and two waitresses in the diner, I know they were doing the best they could on a busy Saturday morning, but waiting an hour for diner food is a little much.

The food is always fantastic, breakfast whenever youd like 👌 I love the feel of the diner and if youre in the mood for some drinks they have a bar as well.

Love this place. Then theres my bro Vinnie, we known each over 20 years. From back in the day, in the Bitterroot valley. Just want to say, that there are not, too many places around that stay open 24 a day like Oxford, they offer more than just food, they offer a smile, and warm place, if want, to get out of the weather, and we all know it can get cold in Missoula, what a beautiful place come visit you wont be disappointed.

Excellent prices for breakfast, and TONS of food! Dad and I split the 2 egg breakfast with bacon and a bloody Caesar- the perfect quantity. Also, BROWN GRAVY! LOVE being here, and dad had good stories from back in the day- "decades" ago, I believe was the phrase. Will be returning.

Came in for Sunday morning breakfast and left without ever getting food. A very large group came in as we placed our order and we sat for over an hour and watched tables that were part of that group get their food before us. In over an hour the staff never even came by to refill our waters. The food looked good but we never got to try it before we told them to pull our ticket and left. Will never be back.

I thought it would be a good place for breakfast. The food was below average but worse were the sad collection of drugged out looking people just hanging about. Id never come back.

My friend and I have been loyal customers to this bar for 5+ years. I have never experienced such disrespect from the kitchen staff member named Jeremy than I have tonight. Our waitress charged us for a to go order than was completely wrong and missing items. I was charged in whole for missing items. When I called back, “Jeremy” was rude and unprofessional when we asked if the order could be redone. On top of speaking over me on the phone and completely disregarding all forms of compromise, informed me that the order would not be redone and I would not be refunded for the missing items. Incredibly disrespectful, unprofessional, and unacceptable. 0/5 stars if possible. Not to mention a kitchen staff ran by ex convicts and prior inmates. Would not recommend to anyone who is in search of a pleasant interaction between customers and pitty kitchen staff hires. 👎👎

Convinced that the good reviews are by drunk locals and casino goers because this is by far some of the worst food I’ve ever had. We got the Philly, patty melt and fries. Everything was so greasy, you’d think they go it fresh out of the Shell oil spill. Service was awful, waitress did just enough by bringing us water and taking our order but the cook handled literally everything else.Long story short, food is awful and we only took a few bites. If you’re there for booze and gambling, this place is probably better suited for you.

What a unique place. Love the setting of this Cafe. Very good menu, and what I ate, scrambled eggs, hashbrowns, bacon, sourdough toast, sausage cream gravy. So happy I found this place.

Stopped by after seeing this sidewalk sign for $20 Ribeye steaks. Turns out this will be the end to $20 Ribeye steaks due to the price of beef now.- Had a great experience here with the great service and Vince, Mr. Big, the cook.

Good prices and generous portions. I had bacon and eggs and the bacon was as perfect as could be. The cook is named mr. Cook believe it or not Perfect. What a fun guy and fun crew

It’s breakfast time and this diner/bar is walking distance from the AC hotel.Searched a bit on Google and saw pictures of the chicken fried steak so my mind was made up. I love CFS and this did not disappoint.Big portion of chicken, hash browns and two eggs over-easy with a side of JJs spicy gravy.It was on Tuesday morning and there were only 5 other customers so service was fast. I Sat down and was immediately greeted and I ordered right away. Coffee and water came first, quickly, followed within a few short minutes by my delicious breakfast.I’ll be back again tomorrow to try one of the other options.

Its always a great place to visit. Great food great employees. I had the garbage omelet. It was phenomenal. A must.

Atmosphere is like a small town bar and grill. My wife and I split a 1 pound ribeye and fries. Was super.

This is one of the best places to eat in Missoula and it is not fancy. Its open 24/7 so anytime you want to grab some fresh bacon and eggs or a steak its always available. The prices are pretty good. This place secretly has the best pancakes in town. One pancake for 3 bucks and its a full meal.

Good diner food at a decent price. Everything is a la cart, so the advertised $5 burger is $7.50 if you want a side of fries and $8.00 with mayo. For two of us we opted for the large fry on the side and there was plenty left after we were done picking at them!

Great breakfast all day and really nice staff! Everything we got was cooked really well.Lots of weirdos milling around the casino machines ,which made for uneasy bathroom visit.

I could drink and bathe in JJs gravy. Id gladly wait an hour plus on those busy nights to stuff my face with that chicken fried steak! My last visit some kid tried to complain it took to long and then tried to return his food when he ordered wrong( oh he did order wrong I had the pleasure of sitting by him. He was drunk, annoying and wrong). He began to brag about how he managed a few bars in town and waiting for food that long was unacceptable. For the ox special it is always worth it. No one was impressed and you guys put the drunk dude in his place. You guys killed it. If you are visiting Missoula the Oxford is a must stop for some late night drunk food. I recommend the ox special or at least order some JJs on the side you wont regret it I promise.
