The Old Stocks Inn restaurant in Wanlaweyn
Description
We LOVED Old Stocks Inn. The room was absolutely perfect after a long day of driving, and the location could not be better. We ate both dinner and breakfast at the hotel as well, and were not disappointed. If we are ever back in Stow, there is no question we would stay here again.
MoreVery comfortable accommodation and fantastic food. Perfect for a couples weekend away.
MoreWe had an amazing family meal at this lovely restaurant. The venue is great and the food was excellent - far exceeding any of our groups expectations. The cocktails were also great, but special mention goes to the staff, in particular a guy who I think was the manager who was funny, attentive and very professional. I would have no hesitation in recommending this wonderful place and would definitely come back again. Well done 👏👏
MoreBig, welcoming pub serving traditional but tasty food, with a few interesting veggie options on the menu.
MoreWe have just stayed at The Old Stocks Inn this weekend and overall, we thought it was a fabulous place. Location couldn’t be better, right on the main square in Stow, all the staff there were fantastic, making us feel most welcome, especially Richard the manager, and the food was top notch so hearty compliments to the chefs! The only small fly in the ointment was the state of the lane leading to the car park to the rear of the hotel…those potholes could do with filling as we don’t all drive big 4x4 cars that can easily cope with them! Also, we were given a room that had a sink and a bath right there in the room, so no separate bathroom or shower for us, just the bath and a separate toilet! Now, I’m sure many people would be happy with this arrangement (generally those younger and better-looking couples, I would assumebut I most certainly didn’t pay for a weekend away that involved watching the wife taking a bath. That sight should not have to be endured by anyone…especially me! That apart, the stay was great and we would definitely go there again, so The Old Stocks Inn gets a well-deserved thumbs up from us! 😊
MoreOnly stopped for one night on the way back from Cornwall. Friendly & attentive staff, lovely rooms. Evening meal was lovely, & the breakfast set us up for the remainder of our journey the following morning.Highly recommended.
MoreIf I was ever going to go into the hotel business I would use Old Stocks as my model. Absolutely first class. Stylish interiors-laid back yet classy with a cheeky smile. Our room was delightful-everything you need and a few treats in the fridge together with dog bed, dog bowl and dog treats for our pooch. Welcoming staff-nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was amazing and, as a vegetarian that isn’t something I say often. Superb. I will be back!
MoreVery special dining experience in beautiful surroundings with excellent service and delicious cuisine. This is a perfect venue for a special evening.
MoreFantastic stay, wish we stayed longer! Clean and tidy, food was amazing, will be returning next year 🙂
MoreWe got recommended this hotel by friends and have to stay say we can’t fault it. The service was fab, the food was great and it’s such a lovely hotel. Room and bathroom so nice, clean, relaxing. It’s very dog friendly which is great for us as we have a dog. But they are also considerate for those who don’t have dogs - keeping dogs out of the restaurant etc. Lots of little touches to make you feel very looked after. We will definitely be back!
MoreLovely place to stay. Food was fabulous and the staff friendly and attentive. Our rooms were great, clean and comfortable. Only small negative would be the lack of space if staying more than one night and the closeness on outside seating to rooms. Whilst not visable to customers people felt very close and conversations overheard if the windows open.
MoreThe table wasnt clean and we had to ask the waitress to wipe it as she was serving the coffees without doing so. One of the chairs had french fries on the seat.
MoreHad dinner here, the food was lovely and the service great. Venue very classy but casual too. Perfect mix. Would recommend and go again.
MoreLovely room , friendly and efficient staff and excellent food in the centre of a beautiful Cotswold town10/10 thoroughly impressedWe will certainly be back .
More10/10 food and service. There are typical British dishes to choose from but they are gourmet and unique. Staff is very friendly and attentive, they managed to squeeze us in after 8, which was very nice. Highly recommend. *We only visited the restaurant.*
MoreA good stay, but beware of excess charges. Guy at reception will claim it’s “VAT charges” to unsuspecting tourists when in reality, VAT is already included.Even though I already paid for breakfast with my room, guy at reception was insistent on charging me additional breakfast because he said what I paid for breakfast was actually to cover “VAT”. I showed him the bill preview I received which showed the total I owed and even after seeing that, he stubbornly insisted I was wrong and charged my card with the excess charges.I then asked him to provide a physical printout of the receipt for my stay so I could contest it with my credit card company, who would immediately see that there were duplicate charges. Only after he looked at the physical print out receipt (which was identical to the receipt I showed him on my phonedid he agree to refund me the excess charges. He didn’t even apologize or acknowledge his mistake, which made me think he realized his mistake in the middle of the transaction and wanted to see if he could get away with it. Was a super cosy Cotswolds stay with lovely breakfast - such a shame it ended on a bad note because of poor accounting.
MoreGreat service and lovely food. Starter and dessert were the stars of the show, mains a little underwhelming by comparison but still good.
MoreWe had the three course dinner at the Old Stocks Inn, and it was our favorite meal in stow! It’s a fine dining experience in a casual and welcoming environment. Each plate was beautiful and delicious. The staff were attentive and our server, we didn’t get her name, was lovely!
MoreHad a brilliant experience here. Delicious meal, great service, lovely atmosphere. Highly recommend if visiting the area.
MoreThis place is fabulous. We stayed for two nights and absolutely loved it. The service is fabulous, the rooms are charming and comfortable. We loved the food and enjoyed the bar as well. While in town check out the Old Butcher, outstanding experience.
MoreIts a classic guesthouse on the outside full on that traditional Cotswold charm. The rooms while keeping those old features that give a sense of place and character, have also been completely renovated and decked out with exactly what you need for a modern boutique experience- luxury tub and walk in rain shower. Most importantly the staff made us feel like we were at home and taken care of.We will definitely return, and if like us you are looking for somewhere to celebrate an anniversary- this place is magic.
MoreWeve eaten here on several occasions, and its always amazing, service is second to none, as are all the staff. The cocktail lounge and selection is brilliant. We stayed over in one of their best rooms for my partners birthday this time, the room and standard of finish was stunning, not the cheapest but worth every penny.Looking forward to going again soon.
MoreDelightful gem in Stow on the Wold. The quaily of the food is outstanding, rooms faultless and thoughtfully appointed, the cocktails are to die for. Worth a visit.
MoreWe stayed at Old Stocks Inn for 3 nights. This hotel has everything going for it: great position, great architectural history while beautifully decorated in a subtle retro chic style, wonderful staff and meals that can only have been produced by a talented chef and service levels of the highest quality. Deserving of all 5 stars and an absolute top choice.
MoreLovely hotel, great food, good service, comfy beds & pillows. Would highly recommend also make sure you book in the restaurant for dinner.I also left my earrings there and they sent them recorded delivery the next day.We would stay there again.
More1st class friendly, warm, welcoming service from start to finish. Superb food and cocktails. Beautifully presented and pristine accommodation.A particularly big thank you to the new gentleman who recently joined the team after working in Australia, for your warm welcome and service. An easy five stars!!
MoreThe food was excellent. Personally, I thought it was potentially Michelin star level.Service was also very good with our waiter giving excellent advice on our wine selection.I would definitely return.
MoreBest experience I have had in a while. The decor / extras and staff are 5 stars. This might be rated a 2 star hotel - but it isnt. It is a 5 star hotel. No arguments about it. Stayed in a Garden Room for 4 nights, although it was horribly noisy on the first night, as the room is directly next to the beer garden and I struggled to sleep, this was due to rude guests, not the hotel. Cant fault the stay. Wish I stayed longer.
MoreHotelWe stayed two nights and the hotel is excellent. The rooms are small but cosy. The shower was great and it was very comfortable. The staff were very friendly and helpful.FoodThe food, however, was not like other reviewers have described on here.Breakfast: nice coffee, nice apple juice, boring fruit salad. Then a cooked breakfast with some overcooked bacon (maybe they get a lot of Americans?), tasteless sausage, average black pudding, and they forgot to bring any toast.Dinner: asked how I wanted my steak, I went for medium rare, I got charcoal. I could have sent it back but when it’s that hilariously wide of the mark is there any point? The middle of the thickest bit of the steak had a pinkish tinge in the right light. Once you scraped off the crust anyway. Tasted fine if you pretended it was a flame-grilled Whopper. The “Parmesan truffle fries” were crunchy, overcooked chips with a couple of bits of cheese. My palette wasn’t refined enough to pick up the truffle. The salad was floating in (admittedly tastydressing. The highlight of the dish was 3 roasted cherry tomatoes with blue cheese (I think?which were delicious. My partner foolishly braved the wine menu and got a bizarrely jammy, vanilla custard Italian red. I played it safe and had a lovely pint of bitter instead. We would have bailed out here but alas it was a fixed price two-course.Dessert was billed as a chocolate orange hazelnut tart but turned out to be a Mr Whippy-esque mouse in a pastry shell, with two mandarin segments which were full of pips providing the “orange” part of the dish. It was fine I guess. We couldn’t face the hotel bar after that so we popped across the square to a delicious wine bar instead. All in all, a mixed bag.
MoreExcellent cocktails with really interesting flavours and innovative ingredients. Beautiful decor and super attentive, knowledgeable staff. Would highly recommend.
MoreGorgeous room, excellent food and cocktails, friendly and on-point service. We stayed on a Sunday night and our package included a delicious 3 course lunch in the restaurant plus a cheeseboard delivered to our room later that evening. It doesnt get any better. A very relaxing stay in lovely Stow, highly recommend.
MoreAfter a week of somewhat disappointing evening meals from a crumpled doughy mess delivered by an ooni oven to a less than tasteless Indian from a supposed master of spice. We really needed a win before we left for home... And boy did the Old Stocks deliver! The service was excellent and the atmosphere too! Then we come to the food! Its not a big menu but thats the beauty of it, every dish is done to perfection and the wine and cocktail list pair with it perfectly!Really really cant recommend this place highly enough, thanks for a wonderful evening! Well be back!
MoreStopped here for one night (sadly!and it was fantastic. The deluxe rooms are nice and big to relax in, modern decor but still keeping the old beams of the building. The bath was a nice touch! The restaurant is a set meal with choices, but tastes amazing. The staff were all friendly and helpful.
MoreLiked this place alot - quaint cottage feel with an updated scandinavian design. Alot of nice touches such as classical music when you enter your room, small bottle of fresh milk in the fridge, nice coffee corner. Rooms were very clean and well-kept, warm and cozy, and probably had the best rain shower Ive ever used (wow!). Parking was easy, and there are many nice shops and streets to walk around in. The only downside of our stay was their staff- they seemed too preoccupied to properly check us in (gave us the wrong room and keys at the beginning- and were like oops here you go byeand were always huddled near the bar everytime we passed... coincidence? In any case, still recommend this place and would stay here again!
MoreGreat cocktail lounge. Chilled out here on a Sunday and played some Scrabble, really nice vibe and tasty cocktails. Pricey but worth it. Almost walked past as it looks like a furniture store from the outside!
MoreWe booked fairly last minute for a one night stop over. The staff were exceptionally great and the room had everything needed. I dont often write reviews, but just wanted to pass on the good feedback. Thanks!
MoreWell, what can I say!!! We went here for my husbands birthday. It was completely unexpected and Im glad that we waited for a table. What an absolutely wonderful restaurant. Simply one of the most gorgeous restaurants. Cocktails were magnificent. I couldnt fault the place and want to return when we have our next trip to the Cotswolds.
MoreAbsolutely first class dining experience. All the staff were warm, welcoming and. knowledgeable. Food was superbly presented and full of flavour - No doubting that quality ingredients are used throughout. Thoroughly recommended, even if I know that might mean I can’t get a reservation
MoreWe visited last summer when restrictions had been lifted, they had a good covid procedure. Places to sanitise your hands and people were respectful of space.Room decor was very nice, bed very comfortable and fridge thoughtfully packed. We had a small cosy room, but a great view of the church and could here the bells Sunday morning.Staff were friendly and suggested walks, the food was good and the cocktails even better.
MoreEverything regarding our event/stay was exceptional. The food has always been great and this last visit was no different. The staff and service is brilliant and they all deserve a well done. Special mention to Alice, Rich and Charlotte. The location of The Old Stocks is perfect and the rooms are beautiful. Thank you to the whole team for all your efforts and we will see you soon.
MoreFour of us visited for Sunday lunch on 18th July, the staff were very accommodating to our special requirements. We were seated in the delightful courtyard and nothing was too much trouble. The food deserves a ten out of ten as do the lovely staff. We will definitely be coming back and will recommend you to friends and family. Thank you. Lesley
MoreCute, cosy room, friendly staff and a really nice atmosphere during dinner. I know that it might be an odd thing to say but their rooms are thoughtful and you can see that the owners care about the experience that they offer to their guests. We would happily return here any time we need to spend the night in Stow-on-the-Wold.
MoreReally average and overpriced - £30 for a chicken breast and a fried bit of Nduja sausage.Service was interesting and nearly unprofessional.Would recommend one of the many pubs in the village over this restaurant.A little bit of a tourist trap, cant go wrong with local classic pub food.
MoreWe had seen the reviews and booked dinner here for our first night in Stow. It was just me and my partner and we order the dinner option where you have to choose either a starter and main or main and dessert.Firstly, the server offered my partner a drink, ‘a beer for you?’ Yet just didn’t even look at me assuming I don’t drink beer (I assume because I’m a woman). Then when I asked for a beer he said, ‘just a half pint?’ Again I had to reiterate no thanks a full pint of beer please 🙄They brought out bread for the table which came with a lemon honey butter, it was nice but definitely more of a dessert vibe. I ordered the lamb cutlets and my partner had the chicken. The chicken came out and looked like a child’s meal, no seasoning and therefore not a lot of flavour. My cutlets were not cooked properly, I normally choose medium rare however these were not rendered down so a lot of tasteless fat on the cutlet was present. Then we ordered dessert, although at this point we did consider just opting for an ice cream elsewhere instead. I had the panna cotta and my partner the ‘cheesecake’. We both barely touched them. The cheesecake was a deconstructed version which is fine however the apricots were not ripe and again lacked flavour. My dish was not good either. It was grainy and lacked the texture of a good panna cotta. We mentioned to the waiter after he noticed we hadn’t eaten our desserts and said that the panna cotta was made with some vegan substitute of gelatine and that’s why the texture was unusual and that the apricots were poached in white wine and that’s why they tasted unripened.Ultimately he took one dessert off of the bill and charged the standard 10% service charge. Overall we were very, very disappointed. The concept was great and the food had potential however they just under delivered on it. This seemed to be a common theme after speaking with the next table to us who were equally underwhelmed. If you were paying pub prices it would be one thing, however when you are paying a higher price you do expect more.Although I can not speak for the accommodation, I would not recommend this venue for food.
MoreWe would like to thank everyone at The Old Stocks Inn for the most enjoyable evening last night. Firstly booking the table you were very helpful. We were made to feel very welcome on our arrival, instructions for our table time politely advised, ie a 2 hour slot. The table service was outstanding. As to the food we can say superb. One of the best meals and evenings we can remember. Well be back. Thank you.
MoreAmazing place to eat. We loved the look of the place, the atmosphere and of course the food. This is a slightly posher place to eat but still affordable for many with very good customer service. I would highly recommend eating here if you come to Stow on the Wold
MoreNestled in the heart of Stow-on-the-Wold, The Old Stocks Inn is a recently refurbished 17th-century coaching inn that really stands out from the crowd. The boutique hotel is luxurious, but not stuffy. Elegant, but not pretentious. Quaint, but not twee.Came here for a family Sunday lunch and we were all blown away by both the food and the service. We sat in the lovely private conservatory and had the two/three-course set menu (which was the best food weve had this year), and the team were so welcoming and attentive. Will definitely be back. Outstanding.
MoreWe had a fantastic tapas lunch today. The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive. The garden is relaxing and well planned out to make you feel comfortably distanced from other diners. The food was delicious and they went above and beyond by making me tartar sauce after I asked for it with my chips (weird I know). It was the best tartar sauce Ive ever had! Cant wait to go back
MoreWe were lucky enough to get a seat outside the front. Ordered two afternoon teas, scones which were lovely and soft, clotted cream, strawberry jam and tea, all very delicious. Used the toilets which were clean and had their own hand products that you can purchase at reception. Restaurant looked nice, but didnt look at menu. Looked this hotel up when we got home and would consider it if we wanted an overnight stay.
MoreBoth the restaurants and the hotels are gems and exceptional value The property appears to be very well managed. As of 2019, it looks like it was recently extensively remodeled. The rooms are comfortable with all sorts of special attention. The design of the hotel and restaurant in general is quite tasteful. The dinner we had at the restaurant was a truly delightful experience. The meals and cocktails were sublime, and brought to us with excellent and attentive service. Personally, I didn’t care for the wine list as there were selections from all over the world but nothing appealed to me, though the price ranges were appropriate. In the rear there is a nice courtyard that really adds to the whole experience if one stays at the hotel. It’s always nice to have an option to sit outside in between activities.
