298 Pacific Ave, San Francisco, CA 94111, United States, San Francisco
Landmark saloon, converted from a 19th-century sailing ship, dispensing draft beer & pub grub.
Food was great, big portions and delicious. I didn’t like you have to order from the bar and they still charged gratuity. No Apple Pay
Delicious bites, amazing cocktails, very friendly staff. Great neighborhood feel.
Cool spot, historic saloon, friendly bartender. The food looked incredible from what others ordered around me. I will return!
Love this place, staff has changed a bit but it’s still amazing.
The location is pretty good place for a pub. It has an old San Francisco feel to it or maybe Chicago or some place. Red brick walls wood floors a square bar in the center kitchen in the back. I came for a cold beer I bet the burgers and fries are good too.
A friend and I had lunch here during the week and were pleased with our experience. We had the chicken mole nachos and the fish and chips. Both were quite tasty and filled us up. I will definitely be back
Gotta get the patty melt everytime. Perfect with the sweet potato fries.
Great place! We didn’t eat but the food looks great and cocktails were perfect. Super nice bartender too!
Dropped in around 3 as a group of 8: we felt so welcome and had the place to ourselves pretty much. Super friendly service, tasty burgers, and great atmosphere. Walkable from the Exploratorium, and we got back to the ferry in plenty of time - wonderful part of a lovely day trip.
Nice little local spot serving craft beer and tasty bites
Great local place for good food and drinks.
Very friendly people and good beer.We didnt eat, but the menu looked good.
Very big portions and good food. The ambiance is also very enjoyable
Found by accident while walking around SF. Great chilled atmosphere. Good beer. Good food.
Although pricey compared to restaurants I normally frequent, the food and drinks are made with superb attention to taste and uniqueness. The server, although swamped as server and bartender, still took time to check on us sitting outside more than once. Now my #1 spot to eat in San Francisco.
First thing this motherfckr does when me and my family sit down is:- complain about us moving the tables and chairs to better accommodate ourselves; then proceeds to ignore us and not take orders from us for over 20 minutes of waitinghope this stupid, broke ship bar sinks to the bottom of the ocean along with the rest of this stinky dumpster called San francisco
So great finding this place! I live nearby but just found this place yesterday and it was such a great surprise. My cocktail was delicious (gold rushand we ordered food not expecting much. As it turns out my boyfriends burger was amazing and my mac and cheese was the best Ive ever had. Staff was very efficient as well, I dont know the guys name but he was alone there and took care of everyone very nicely. I will definitely come back. ❤️
Considering this is supposed to be the “oldest” bar in San Francisco, it certainly did not feel like it. However, the aesthetic was still warm and welcoming and it is a nice stop if travellers are looking to rest their weary legs.
Didnt get to try the food, but Tiger Lily and Pimms Cup cocktails were good. Was a nice spot to pop into after an evening of After Dark at the Exploratorium.
What a fun pit stop! You really have zero idea who will come thru the doors next! My friend and I went in after a show at the gateway and saw as a group of trashed girls came in, followed by business men in suits, followed by hipsters on scooter, etc - you get the drift. So the atmosphere was silly. The kitchen closes at 11 and we had a good late night meal of salad, fries and a grilled cheese! I’ll say check it out with friends. Heading in solo is hard due to the mixed crowd, meaning breaking into a conversation can be a challenge as folks are in their own clicks / zones. But overall, it’s a solid bar. Good food and good times!
Very good food ! We ate hamburgers and there were excellent. Good beer.Maybe the waiter was too busy that day...
This place is so quiet and nice. Has tables outside, burgers and good beers to spend time with friends.
Ray was our bartender/server Monday night, we really enjoyed our food and drinks. So, we decided to come back with friends the Tuesday evening. Tony was super nice too! even the crowd and he was alone! Thank you for your good vibes and the food was delicious, the burger, the fish and chips, the crispy chicken and quesadillas, everything was fresh and very good.We were visiting for 2 days but we are going to come back for sure next time in San Fransisco!
Good place with a good character, nice food and vibe and people
Really nice vibe. Family friendly, and the bartender was awesome to the whole family. Children didnt dig on Mac and cheese because it was different, had tomatoes in it, but I loved it. Burger was awesome too!
The Old Ship, is an old saloon style bar with a lot of history. The waterline used to reach this part of the city and the bar used to overlook the ships in the harbor. Many of ol fisherman and 49er have been through these doors.
2021 review: Their patty melt and crispy double-fried fries were delicious. My friend got their chicken mole nachos, which were massive, and she liked them too. Friendly bartender service on top of all this = win.2019 review: Came here for brunch and a drink. After the pancakes and Pimms cup were devoured, I left satisfied.
This is my new favorite haunt in San Francisco. Its a little bar full of character and a top notch staff! They menu is basic but surpringly well done. We had fish and chips where everything was crispy to the last bite, and I really recommend the Manhattan.
Not much of any ship left. Serviceable hamburgers and an excellent soup lift it up. Never crowded. Flooring is artificial wood terribleness and works against everything. Staff is friendly and efficient.
Strong character, strong selection. The kind of bar restaurant you’d only find in San Francisco. Ample outdoor seating. Its location lends well to taking a stroll outside to the other sights and sounds of the FiDi, North Beach, the Embarcadero.
A SF Barbary Coast Landmark. Go! Have some grub & a few drinks. You won’t regret it. Been stopping in for years & years
It’s a nice low key place to sit with your friends and have a good chat. Once in a while you just need to have good conversations over beer with a nice bartender. This is exactly that place 😇Definitely not something if you are looking for a high energy bar!
Absolutely amazing place to eat and get drinks 😍💚💯 will definitely be coming back!
Cocktails delicious and hospitality outstanding. Oldest bar in San Francisco. Thank you for hosting the start of ECVs Yerba Buena #1 historical plack tour.
Great historic spot in the financial district. Bartender is kind and great at his job. Provides a great service and very welcoming. I gave 4 instead of 5 because the food is average.
Great quick, friendly, and attentive service! Ray was awesome! Good selection of beers, food was excellent (had the fish and chips and mac and cheese), crispy fried, perfect golden batter on the cod....comfy, inviting spot with alot of history. Will definitely be visiting again 🙂
Friendly staff, friendly patrons, and great atmosphere. Stopped for a drink (and had threeand had a blast at the bar. Good beer selections, and the bartender made a pretty darn good old fashioned. When Im back in town Ill absolutely make another stop here!
It is technically built over an old ship, and the bar claims to be one of the three oldest in the city. Service is good, but there are no nautical decorations (this could be good or bad depending on your preferences). Food was good and drinks were strong. Prices average for the edge of fidi neighborhood. Rum selection (essential for an establishment literally named "old ship"was lacking but otherwise have a full bar.Very clean. Appears to have been remodeled in the last couple of years. Would come back here again.
Nice food, really enjoyed the place and the service. The burger has a cheap price and totally worth the price.
More like 3.5 stars: perfectly adequate lunch spot but not a place Im dragging my friends and family to. The fried chicken sandwich was pounded a little too thin, although the side salad was better than expected. And of course, if you need a drink, a great spot to grab one!
Nice corner bar. Bartender s were friendly as I had read in other reviews. Food menu was pretty limited. I got the pulled pork sandwich which was really excellent. Bartender forgot to put my order in so they took $3 off the $16 sandwich. The place was pretty empty at 8pm on a rainy Monday. They have a few TVs with games on them and the music was every hit from the 80s which was the best thing about the place. Cant rate it 5 star because the service flub and sitting with my glass empty several times while eating with the bartender talking to his friends at the other end of the bar. I would certainly recommend this place to hang out with friends or grab a drink and a bite.
Great service by entire staff! Food was good and served quickly! Good prices, great corner pub with a lot of history!
Awesome spot! I had "The Burger" and it was honestly one of the best burgers Ive ever had. It came with sweet potato fries that were really good too. Nice staff, and friendly environment. Would definitely go back again sometime! 👍🏽
This is one of those places people come to eat, drink, hang out with friends, or watch the game. We grabbed an empty table and soon after, the waitress came by for our drink order and verified if we wanted to eat. She gave us the food menu and came back for our drink and food order in a bit. The menu is small but there was so many things we wanted. So well definitely be back. The inside is built from reclaimed wood from a ship. Its really cool looking inside. Seating is limited to a dozen or so tables, so it does get crowded quickly. Good service, good food.
The late night bartenders here are top notch! Theyre fun and chatty and help make the atmosphere here feel very much like a locals bar. The food always smells amazing and the jambalaya balls (called something elseare fantastic!! I look forward to frequenting this place over and over again. Theyre never too busy to make your visit enjoyable. 👍🏾
Had the Reuben and sweet potato fries .... Best ones Ive ever had. Absolutely amazing. Bar tender was real nice, and the waitress went around with a smile on her face the whole time. Great quality food, drinks arent too expensive (in comparison to other bars in SFand I thought the food was great! 10/10 recommend
I wander into the oldest pub in SF. Awesome people very friendly makes you feel right home. Lots of whiskeys and beer to choose from. Great food. Had great time watching the game and talking to my fellow patrons.
It was cool to visit a bar established in 1851. The atmosphere is historic yet modern and the cocktails were delicious. I loved how each drink has a fun fact about the bar and the area. The food was delicious but options were limited. The music was a mix of old school classics which I liked but it looked like it was the bartenders playlist so music styles may vary with bartenders.
This is the best place ever for lunch and/or happy hour!!! I work only a few blocks away from Old Ship Saloon, but it has been my go-to for afternoon munchies and drinks. Paulie and Colin are the very best bartenders (very attentive and helpful). Its been a pleasure to meet the restaurant manager and waitress/waiters to this fine establishment, who are always willing to accommodate for you. I cant recommend Old Ship enough! Thank you guys!!!
Their crab melt is to die for. I loved going to this spot for lunch - their food is consistently good especially for a bar. The burgers, the club, fries, salads, and sides have all been tasty. You can grab a seat surprisingly quickly even when the place is packed. The wait staff seems like theyll be a bit inattentive, but they pay surprisingly good attention to your table most of the time. Come for the food or the lively atmosphere and grab a beer.
