Wyllyotts Place, Darkes Ln, Potters Bar EN6 2JD, Makokou
A grand pub/restaurant, once part of a manor house, with exposed rafters, smart decor and big menu.
Stopped here for a bite to eat, me and my partner both hand sandwiches which tasted delicious. They even put up with me girlfriends requests. Will definitely be back.
Been here once before at Christmas time and food was lovely. There is a great ambience and the decor is lovely. Decided to try a Sunday roast which, when put on the table was well presented and the veg looked great. The gravy was very runny and the beef was so sinewy my food got cold as I tried to chew through it. I spoke to a waitress who apologised and kindly replaced the beef with chicken. This wont put me off going back, but I wouldnt eat beef here again. The staff are very nice.
Our 2nd time here and we’ll definitely be back for more. Fantastic, friendly service, great value for money and delicious food! Thank you!
Great pub, good for functions.. Lovely staff nice and clean throughout
This place has been standing there for many years and never disappoints! The food is of high quality and the restaurant ambience is particularly impressive, really cosy on a chilly night out.
Would easily score 5 stars as a drinking venue. Great selection of beer, especially cask ales, at reasonable prices and the venue is well decorated inside and outside there is a large seating area. Staff quite friendly and helpful too. However, the food was incredibly disappointing and poor value for money. 3 different roasts were served to the table (beef, chicken and the trioand only the chicken came close to the price charged. The beef was cooked well but poor meat quantity. The trio of roasts was most disappointing. Compiled of one thin slice of beef, one thin slice of gammon and part of a chicken leg. Beef roasts all served with 3 slices of meat and the half chicken was more than double the size of the part of the chicken leg within the trio. The trio costs notably more than the other roasts but the portion didnt reflect the higher price. Did raise this point with staff who then bought over an extra slice of greyed thin gammon ( which is the cheapest roast on the menu). Perhaps I could have said more but didnt see the point considering this response.Stayed for dessert and again not great value. Sticky toffee pudding was decent but the bakewell tart was in fact a piece of bakewell tart.Would happily return for a drink but not sure whether would go for food again.
Just popped in for a quick drink. The place really has a nice ambience. Will definitely be back to try the food in the near future.
Country style pub at it’s finest, fist class service and the staff, friendly, inviting and attentive. Well done 👏🏼
Hands down the best pub food (and best roast especiallyIve had anywhere around North London. The atmosphere and service was lovely, and for the quality of what we were eating, the prices are super reasonable. I have no idea how this place isnt averaging 4.9 stars on here.
A lovely pub, friendly staff.Amazing food. We had the beef burgers which were incredible.Looking forward to our next trip and meal there.
Beautiful pub in an unlikely setting. Great food (we had the roast beefand excellent service. We would definitely return if we were in the area again.
Went there with family to celebrate my sons 40 birthday. Beautiful old building. Excellent menu. Really lovely staff
Beautiful building great place to eat with friendly staff, good service and the food was lovely.
Visit often. Visited on a quiet Sunday afternoon for a roast- the mushroom and artichoke vegan roast was the best vegan dish I think I’ve ever eaten! The staff are always really lovely and happy to help. Very happy to call this a local!
Just had a great catch of the day meal, would defo recommend for a lighter dinner and even better with cold beer and in the garden 👍
Lovely restaurant, we went there to celebrate my sons 40th birthday. Great meal at a good price. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Thank you for helping to make my sons birthday so special
Thank you for lovely birthday. Great meal. Excellent service. Very nice young lady serving us. She was kind and very happy. Top notch all around. Great venue
Good food but the service needs to be improved. From the first person of the 5 of us getting their main course to the last was a 20 minute wait.Entirely avoidable.
I took a party of 8 to celebrate birthday last Sunday. Very disappointed; quality and size poor; presentation poor and the price has to be questioned. The waitresses served us well. Notices how few people were eating over the period 12:30 - 3:00. Great pity this used to be a good restaurant and had good memories of our past visits
The staff were rude and I witnessed them being unkind and snapping at several customers. The food was terrible- under cooked and overpriced!! A very unsatisfactory experience.
The food here used to be great (especially for the vegan options). It’s a real shame it’s slipped recently. I ordered a courgette, lentil and vegan feta salad with plant based chicken which was £17 in total. Already very overpriced but I persevered. When it arrived after half an hour, it was essentially a bowl of mint leaves (which weren’t mentioned on the menuwith a smattering of other ingredients. For £17 I really expected something more substantial and interesting, but our server disappeared and didn’t come to check everything was alright with the food once. After picking out about half of the mint leaves the salad was edible so I finished what I could and left the remaining mint in the bowl lol.Food was poor, service was almost as bad.
Good food, nice atmosphere, lovely outside area, good service, very welcoming!!!
The building is stunning and its lovely that there is parking and outside seating. I was a bit disappointed that no food was available until after 5pm even though the menu on display said up that it was severe until 5pm.
I don’t often leave reviews for anything, my experience at The old manor was appalling, we ordered two steaks which you couldn’t get a knife through, the waiter suggested I needed a sharper knife.I sent my whole dinner back, no one came out to ask why or if I was ok.My daughters linguine was horrible, it smelt like feet! When I said it wasn’t very nice, I was told it was a fishy dish!My sister ate her chips and left most of her steak because it was so tough, I got a refund for the one steak and the linguine. The lady I dealt with made me feel like I was being difficult, when the food just was really bad!I
Looks amazing, friendly staff, great atmosphere and a decent range of beers but the Sunday lunch was disappointing.
Great pub and welcoming atmosphere. Great selection of tasty food and drinks. Definitely recommended
The Old Manor,A very warm welcoming environment loved by families and even our four-legged friends. It has taken me a while to find a nice friendly pub with FRESH food. The staff at The Old Manor are exceptionally friendly and very helpful, especially if you have any allergies like myself. Im Always welcomed with a nice smile and a friendly face, I cant fault this pub at all the service gets better every time I go since the new management have taken over.So if your looking for fresh food friendly staff and great drinks, The Old Manor is the place to go!
Very nice indeed.if just for a casual drink with friends or really nice meal. Recommended
First came here for lunch and service and food was good.Came today with my family 4 in total . Ordered 2 steak which was cold . Ordered Bakewell tart with clotted cream and there was an oily residue as a result of it being heated up too quickly.Lastly we ordered a Irish coffee which was just coffee no taste of any whisky being added This was tested by all the people around the table and they all agreed When we made a point to the waitress of this we were fobbed off with a comment that whisky was added. So much for customer service or a sorry but we will make you another one!!So disappointed ☹️
Quality food and nice though hummus bland and basic cruities. Nice helpful staff . However limited menu. Too expensive. £9 for a starter! £5 for soughdough bread znd garlic oil! £18 ish main course . Out of eggs. .2 out of only 4 pudding choices unavailable on a quiet Tuesday evening. We have come here for 10 plus years but first time back after covid. I doubt we will come back.Sorry.
Not the best menu on offer, prices were reasonable, when the food arrived some of our guestes said that their food arrived cold, as we had 12 guests we were surprised that at no time were we told above the 121/2% service charge which was added to our bill. We would think hard before going there again.
Very poor meal and disappointed. Portions are very sparse and expensive for what they are and for what is a very average pub menu. We asked to speak with the manager on three occasions to discuss our dissatisfaction and had to wait 20 mins for the privilege. By this time the meal was cold and not edible. Overall the standard was not acceptable and this dish on its own cost a massive £14 which was refunded but that was not point. Youngs the Brewery should be ashamed serving up such rubbish!
Reasonable amount of parking and outside seating. Pleasant atmosphere, and decor staff polite and efficient. Only 2 Youngs Ales, cant comment on them but draught soft drinks are same price as the draught beer!
Visited last week with ex teaching colleagues, all of us retired so we had a very pleasant, relaxed lunch. Service was excellent, very friendly and attentive. All of us enjoyed our meals, I had the fish and chips which was a good size and very tasty with lots of crisp chips & mushy peas. Have eaten here several times before and always very happy with food and overall experience. Well worth a visit!
In the rush to get us served within our time slot, food was missing from some of the plates and the cabbage was cold. It certainly felt very rushed. The red pepper humous was tasteless, the wait for the cream to go with the coffee meant the coffee was tepid and all in all, not the best dining experience. The only thing good I can say is that the staff were friendly.
Disappointing. Over priced with very small portions. Each one of our meals had something missing from the menu. Went there in January and the meals were better then they are now. Not worth the money they are charging. There was also a shortage of staff as the people on the next table had to forgo their meal as after sitting waiting and chasing for so long it was time to leave as they were going to the theatre
Family members who went to enjoy a Sunday roast with extended family were very disappointed on Sunday, wasn’t able to allocate the family group in the restaurant because we had a baby in a small pram, so we accepted this and went to the bar to have a meal. We waited an hour and half for our food. we did ask for the table to be cleaned numerous of times and when the gentleman came over to clean the table there was a piece of lemon from the previous customers drink which he proceeded to chuck over his shoulder onto the floor which was not picked up, Hygiene went straight out the window and that was an accident waiting to happen, The staff just didn’t seem to care once we did receive their meals, items of food were missing, no stuffing , when asked about the stuffing The waitress pointed to a small cocktail sausage and said that’s it, The vegetarian meal didn’t have any of the vegetables it was supposed to have, The burger was supposed to have bacon with it that was missing, The vegetarian gravy look like it was just a stock cube with hot water, The chicken was very dry, The waitress said be prepared for half a chicken to be slapped on your plate, i’m glad there was no feathers, overall very disappointed previous experiences have been very good it’s a family restaurant and we had family members that have travelled quite a way to enjoy a meal and have a good experience, come on the Manor you really let us down this time.
Lovely restaurant, friendly service. Pork belly was tasty besides the crackling not being crispy, burger good, fish lacked flavour. Toffee pudding lovely with brandy ice cream, panna cotta not the best. Overall down to earth food. Would go back to try something different.
Great place to eat. Our daughter studies at the University nearby, so we dont know the area too well. Happened to find the old Manor and so glad we did. Served by Woody, who could not have done anymore for us. Brilliant service, great food. Will definitely be going back next time were in the area.
Invited for a birthday dinner. Reservations were done before hand and served accordingly. Filling complimentaries and great service. The food portions were good expecially the cod and fries as well as the steak.
Classic English manor pub style and atmosphere but with a 21st century menu interpretation that definitely impressed. We visited to watch the 2021 Euro Final, and regardless of the result, the drinks and experience were very good. The ordering on your phone makes for seamless rounds of drinks and food, and the food and drinks themselves are exactly what you want. As a vegan, I was truly impressed by the Banana Blossom & Chips with HOW CLOSE it is to fried fish. The appetizer From The Allotment is a great vegan starter with amazing hummus, pea falafel and veg.
Love this place! Beautiful building dating back to 16th century. They serve nice food and the atmosphere is lovely.
Fantastic experience all round. The building is an absolute gem...and so glad to see it being well used and available for the public to visit. We went for a family occasion, and got a well enclosed area, away from the main bar, which was perfect for our group. Whole pub, excellently decorated...cosy, characterful and contemporary. Food was creative and very tasty. Good portion size and a good range of beers. Service was excellent...really friendly and efficient. Didnt use the large, well decorated outside area but that looks great for a sunny day. Top experience all round and highly recommended
This is a lovely place to dine! I went as part of a group for a family event and it was perfect. The food was great, the staff very friendly, and I have fallen in love with the period building itself. I am also amazed at the large and attractive outdoor seating area. Will definitely be back when next in the area!-photograph of their panna cotta
Lovely old pub, great atmosphere, delicious food. We had a lovely time as a family 😊
What a lovely pub!The Sunday roast is absolutely delicious and the sticky toffee pud is amazing. Will go back again to cosy in for another Sunday afternoon.
Have visited here many times and have rarely been disappointed with the food and service. My hubby and I went back today after covid lockdown and I have to say again we were not disappointed. We had a baked camenbert sharer to start which was just delicious and roast beef for our main. Love the little touches such as the pulled lamb in our yorkshire puds, the beef was perfectly pink and everything was just tasty, I think on this day the chef was a little heavy handed with the black pepper in the root veg mash but it was still very yummy. The service was great as always and we look forward to going back again soon 😁😁😁
“Could do better” was the general consensus amongst our party... Went for a big Sunday Lunch gathering of 10+ which they accommodated well. It was REALLY busy. Packed service. Food was Tasty but the lamb was tough on multiple different plates. The sticky toffee was again tasty but the chef had been really stingey with the sauce so it was dry. Cauliflower cheese side dish was dry as it had next to no cheese sauce on it....Staff were happy to split the bill.
What a fantastic place.... A wonderful surprise. This is not just a pub. The place is beautiful with friendly staff and amazing good food. Definitely exceeded my expectations. Will be back for sure. This is what more areas need... Hard to find a place nowadays that doesnt come with problems...but I couldnt find one bad thing to say.
Popped in today for a small bite to eat. Turned out we had a massive portion of food and probably shouldnt have ordered nachos but Im not complaining. Every bite we managed was amazing.Service was very good and very quick. Would happily drop in next time Im near!My god that sandwich... It was something else!
