The Old Cunucu House Aruba - Restaurant in Oranjestad, Aruba
The food is yum, friendly staff and the atmosphere is nice. There are less expensive places to grab local food if you are not there to enjoy the ambience.
Slow to No service on certain items. The Frank Sinatra show was a bad impersonation. We went on Thursday 9/8 to celebrate our 29th anniversary. Our friends were celebrating their 28th. We really had nothing good to feel from start to finish. Maybe you will have better luck for a cheaper price.
We loved the experience here! My husband and I wanted to eat where the locals eat and were recommended to eat here. They had a guitarist who was great! Our waiter was very friendly and informative! He brought different small portions for us to try. I got stewed conch and my husband had stewed goat. Both were very good!
Great service & fun atmosphere. Food was perfect
Waited a very long time for our food. Appetizer of seafood salad was overcooked seafood, filet mignon was also overcooked. Main course served with what I am sure were instant mashed potatoes and frozen bagged vegetables. My authentic aruban chicken main course (forgot the namewas very good and the atmosphere of the restaurant is beautiful.
Came here two days in a row as the food was so good and staff very friendly. Had the ox tail for first day and medium size red snapper the next. Both meals were exceptional. Will certainly be back!
One of the best restaurants we ate at in Aruba. However, there was a man in the service who came across quite offensive to me out of the blue. For the rest, I have nothing negative to say about this restaurant.
Order the Keeshi yena for sure!!! It was chicken with vegetables and raisins topped with gouda cheese, omg so good!!! One of my top 3 best foods eaten on this vacation!!!! My bf has the Carib stoba (I may have spelt that wrongit was a goat stew that he loved as well!!!! We didnt have much time to spend here but the time we did have was very enjoyable!!!
We tried the beef stew and meat skewers. Drinks were Aruba Ariba, yellow bird, and the fruity margarita with fresh fruit. Service was friendly, the food was delicious, ambient live music on the outdoor patio with the yummiest drinks in hand. We look forward to visiting again on our future.
Great local food in a beautiful space - well worth the extra 10 minute walk from the regular hotel strip. Whole snapper was the best of the trip, and the sampler platter app was super tasty and interesting. Balashi ON TAP too!
Absolutely delicious food! I would highly recommend it if you want an authentic experience. The staff was extremely friendly and hilarious 10/10
Food was good as everytime i ate there for years. This time it was 6 of us. After waiting nearly an hour all orders came out except mine. Everyone begon to eat. I waited more that 20 min. A waiter name Bryan came at the table with a wrong order. He left. Waited minutes no food. I ask Bryan about my food. Bryan got defensive and said it is not my fault it is the kitchen. I began to tell him i am not blaming him but the ones who came with me are finishing eating and i did not even get my order. Before i could finish Bryan walk off and left me with the words in my mouth. After about 15 min my order finally came with Bryan. I told him it is not manners to walk away from a client while the talking to him. Bryan in a very hostile way i should not scream at him. I did not and my party is my witness. I talk papiamento to Bryan because i am a Arubian but do not live on the island for years. I do feel Bryan treatment towards me is because he taught i was a local. I do not feel he would of talk to a tourist like that. Do not label no one. Treat everyone where ever they are from with the same respect.
That place is very authentic and in the menu can find a typical local dishes. We tried Iguana soup, Goat stew . Employees were super nice. There was a musician with guitar who sounded and looked like a old Spanish singer. It was a great ambient place. I ordered a flan for dessert and was amazing. Recommend the place.
One of the greatest dining/hospitality experiences I have ever had. Jasmine made us feel like we were VIP guests in her own home! The Arubian cuisine was superb! All I can say is WOW! We will be back next time we are in Aruba!
What a beautiful romantic atmosphere with incredibly authentic food! There was a gentleman playing the guitar, taking song requests, the lighting and decorations were perfect and of course the food! We tryed the Iguana soup and were pleasantly surprised how delicious it was. The goat stew was so delicious and my husband got an authentic dish that had capers, olives and Im not sure what else but it was amazing! Will be coming back.
This place is a gem! The food, drinks, service and atmosphere were all AMAZING. It was especially a treat to be able to eat in an original farmhouse. By far our favorite dining experience during our stay in Aruba—you don’t want to miss it!
Off the beaten path yet still accessible from the hotel zone. Great authentic island food but not recommended for those who dont have an adventurous palate. If youre into places like Senior Frogs, Iguana Joes, or any place that serves food similar to what youll find stateside, this restaurant is not for you. There are some reviews that complain about service and price, and they may be justified. When we went, the service was very friendly and personable. It wasnt slower than any other restaurant weve been to in Aruba. And prices are high but they are much higher everywhere else in the hotel zones. We still paid less and left way more satisfied. Highly recommend for those seeking something a little different thats not too far away.
Great restaurant which serves authentic Arubian food, specialty is for instance the Keeshi Yena, a dish with chicken, cashews, olives and raisins. Service is good, one of the servers knew what we were going to order before we did. Drinks are good, so were the desserts. Theres a really good vibe in the restaurant, but for me the guitar player/ singer was not needed
Amazing local restaurant with great food, atmosphere, and service! Our group tried the iguana soup, goat stew, lasagna, and chocolate cake. Everything was delicious.
Probably the worst meal I have ever had. The only good thing there was the bottled beer. The guy singing couldnt carry a note if you put it in a paper bag. Meatballs raw, people there didnt seem to care. Most everything seemed cooked from frozen. Meals way over priced. Garlic shrimp, 7 small shrimp, $27. Taste just ok. Save your money, go somewhere else.
My wife had the coconut shrimp and I had the barbecued ribs. All the food was to die for wonderful experience. Beautiful atmosphere. Outstanding customer service
Food here was good but the service was disappointing. We liked the stewed goat and oxtail as well as the iguana soup and escargot.Upon ordering a glass of wine, our waiter brought me a cocktail I did not order and proceeded to tell me that I did in fact order the cocktail. When I explained that I wanted (and had asked fora glass of wine, he had a hissy fit, rolled his eyes at me, and stormed off into kitchen. It’s a shame because the food was good.
The goat meat and the cod dish were fantastic. The iguana soup was interesting and delicious. Would definitely recommend that you check it out if you’re looking for a guaranteed great meal.
The best local food on Aruba plus really great service and lovely, cosy interior. They have a vegetarian option of a arubian dish Keshi yena. You have to order dessert called Peanut cup - amazing combination of flavors. I will come back there with no doubts.
Great local cuisine, friendly staff, family atmosphere, live music. Has the feel of a family hacienda serving extremely tasty food. Prices are high all over the island, but at this place feels like you get more for the buck.
Real. Authentic. Aruban food. I felt like I was in a Grandmas kitchen. The place is rich with history, the food delicious, the service excellent.
Went with high expectations. Service was good but wasn’t impressed by the quality of meat used for the pricey beef and goat stews we ordered. The beef was not lean so my kids didn’t like it. I ordered the goat stew which was very flavorful but most fat and bones. Appetizer sampler was good but a bit expensive for the quantity.
Red snapper was better than redfish!!! The server Jude treated us like family and gave us 5 star service and the live music was a perfect touch. Highly recommend 😊
I loved everything about this place, if you want to try some local arubian food, here is the place! We liked it so much we went for lunch and dinner on the same day. The service is good and the waitress were really friendly. The food was delicious as well, so tasty.
We always like to try a local country food which are authentic to that country. We went to Old Cunucu house based on recommendation from hotel staff and also online reviews. This was a great recommendation. Aruban pancake appetizer was really great. We ordered few other items including Catch of the day and everything was excellent
I love the “homey” feeling and style of this restaurant. Come during dinner, we played ourselves stopping here for a quick bite and ended leaving with so much food for lunch lol. Too good to resist
If you want Aruba food while there? Come here. This is your story telling, hole in the wall, word of mouth restaurant you want! Food and ambiance was exactly what I was looking for!
Must go restaurant if you’re in Aruba! We got lucky that our taxi driver recommended us this place! Food was beyond amazing. Loved this restaurant and their staff and live music.
Its a quaint restaurant with good food. Staff are very friendly as well. Their cocktails were a hit or miss, though.
Went hear for lunch based on all the great reviews. Had an overall satisfactory experience but left with three thoughts: (1very very very slow meal preparation, (2a bit over-rated and (3portions were too small for the hefty price paid. $9 for kids spaghetti with butter only? Prices on par with hotel restaurants? Also was not impressed by a few pieces of breakfast pancake in lieu of bread before the meal. I ordered goat stew which had a great home-cooked meal taste but it was a rather small portion with mostly goat bones. The food is forgettable in my opinion. The "house" itself had a cozy feel.
They dont serve food here the serve LOVE!!! The food was amazing, the server seemed to be more of an old family friend. When you order drinks here you get a drink☺️. I wish we heard about this place sooner, every meal would have been here.Did I mention we loved this place? Thank you for an excellent meal and phenomenal service, much love!
The food service and the ambience was amazing. I am so glad I took the recommendation of the server and got the Red Snapper it was so amazing and tender. My wife got the keeshi yena and loved it! I highly recommend this restaurant for the quality of the food, service and the ambience.
Was in Aruba and looking for good food outside the resorts and some place with authentic food in Aruba. A friend and I decided to check out this place and while the walk appeared a little sketchy, it was most certainly worth it! Away from hordes of tourists and a bit of a hidden gem in a neighborhood, this place absolutely was amazing! Great food, great ambiance! I had ordered a local seafood platter dish and it was amazing! We went in the evening and there was a guy playing the guitar and singing which made it even more inviting. I would recommend anyone looking for good food at a local spot to check this place out! Staff and food were amazing!
Great little place! Friendly service, delicious food with some unusual local options. The soup of the day we went was iguana soup, which was surprisingly delicious!
We loved this place! A great spot for traditional Aruban food. I got the conch and my husband got the seafood platter as well as the sampler appetizer. Our server Arthur was really friendly and helpful! We would definitely go back.
MUST MUST MUST MUST GO. Authentic Aruban food and great value. My wife got the coconut shrimp and I got the catch of the day which happened to be wahoo. Started with the local bread (like an American pancakethen 2 BIG FILLETS (some small bones here and there), creole sauce, vegetables, rice, and a fried plantain. The fish is not hidden by other spices or sauce so if you love fish, gotta go here.Great atmosphere, we sat outside with some live music. The walk was on a neighborhood street which was a little dark but felt very save.
Food was really good, pan bati and funchi were best weve had so far.Hot iguana soup, goat and garlic shrimp. All delicious.Shrimp only came with 8 which was surprising given the price but was very good. Really enjoyed the goat and iguana.Kids liked grouper.Drinks were good I thought a tad small. We were only ones in the place and got a LOT of attention. Almost too much for our liking but were very friendly.Would give 4.5 of Google allowed.
Best service and food very highly recommended. Most amazing Irish Coffee, lasagna, and fried calamari!
Excellent service and the most delicious food during my stay in Aruba. Exactly the local experience I was looking for. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. Highly recommended.
Aruba is an expensive island and youll pay a fair bit for dinner. This place is definitely not worth the price they are charging. The restaurant itself is nice and rustic, staff is friendly quite hospitable. The food is another story. Its not terrible, but not worth the price. 11.50 USD for a calamari appetizer with exactly eight rings? Dont bother going here, spend your money in one of the other nicer restaurants.
The best atmosphere for dinner on the island is here. Beautiful and relaxing music accompanies the old and rustic charm of the restaurant-a 150 year old Cunucu house. The food is delicious and authentic and the prices are very decent. You simply must come here if you are visiting Aruba.
Very nice restaurant. Choice of indoor or outdoor seating. Service was great and food was excellent. Lots of animals roaming around, like a large dog, 2 cats. Not so great if you dont care for that while your eating. Live music was good. Good experience.
Food are ok for what we ordered. Skewers were not tender (beef and chicken), most fish item are good. It does have a local feel with good decorations.
Food was fantastic, very flavorful! Ian, our server was excellent, he took time to describe the history of the place to us and helped immensely in our food decisions to try some traditional Aruban cuisine.
This is the best local food. We will be back when we next visit Aruba.Update: Returned here for dinner Dec of 2017. Food was fantastic but the service was inconsistent and very slow. I would suggest you come for lunch instead of dinner because its less busy.
