The National Museum of Oman in As Sib
Description
Privilege
Very well done. On the small end. But definitely visit while here.
I loved it, they have each room ordered by era and showing how old and rich Omans History
MoreWhile the museum is average with a limited collection, they do take their guests for granted -1. When I visited, it was a Friday, and many of the information / display screens had not been turned on (refer attached images)2. The coffee shop was not open. I had checked at the time of purchasing the ticket, and the person had said that there is a coffee shop. But whats the use of it if you dont have it open when you are allowing visitors to come in.3. They dont yet have an Audio Tour.P.S: If the excuse for points 1&2 above is that it was a Friday, then why open the museum at all on Friday and deliver a below par experience. It would have been better to just keep it closed rather that get such a poor feedback.
MoreInteresting exhibition about the history of Oman from prehistoric times to the late Omani Sultan, including the maritime history of the country.
MoreWell done. Bring a jacket! Just wished there was wifi for us tourists who rely on it. We could have stayed longer in the cafe if there was.

Its really helpful to understand about the country and its civilization. The entry fee is OMR 5 for foreign visitors.Recommend to visit it and the drive to the location itself was Serene through hills and fantastic sea shore.

For foreigners, the fee is USD 13. It is close to Al Alam Palace. As a result, before entering the museum, you may stroll to the palace and snap some shots. This location is not need to be booked by a tourism operator. You may arrive by vehicle or cab. You will need a couple of hours to complete all of the parts.
MoreWonderful experience.... a must visit place ... especially those who are interested in history and Omani culture... should visit im morning and to be frank you can spend whole day till 3pm if you stop at all exhibits reading and understanding everything. Must visit
MoreVery interesting, it definitely worth a visit. We learnt more about Omani culture and heritage. Unfortunately it was on Ramadan timing so we had to leave at 3pm.
MoreEntry fee is 5 OMRContains stuff related culture and History of Oman
Wonderful experience, filled with plenty of historical artifacts and information. Gift shop is underwhelming, but overall a good time.
MorePROS -Very elegant ,spacious ,well located ,neat and clean and well maintained.Very big and great collection of OmanCONS-You get bored because its too big and same genre continues for long.
MoreGreat exhibition to visit. So much materials and history . Most of exhibitions are original and represent alot of countries especially central Asia, Middle.East and Africa region .Dont forget to visit gift shop inside the museum , they have some nice gifts to take.as memory .

MoreVery good place to visit if you are interested in history and culture.
A must visit place for anyone in Muscat, dont forget to watch 10 min video of Oman history in inside theatre.
MoreThere is wide variety of things to look at and read and you can watch a short interesting film about Oman, cinema style. The staff are very friendly too. Definitely recommend a visit here!!
MoreNot much artefacts in the Museum compare to other countries I visited, max 2 - 3 hours enough to look around.

MoreA superb place to visit. Greeted by an incredibly enthusiastic member of staff who briefed us thoroughly on what was on offer...and some tips.A great film of omani history was viewed before we strolled through the venue, filled with artifacts from across omani history and culture.Well worth the visit, and Ill be back.

MoreGood place to visit to get a taste of Omani history and heritage. Quite a small museum overall, but one of the rare ones in Oman, so worth a visit if you’re in the Mutrah area. 2 hours are sufficient. If you’re there for lunch, you can enjoy the lunch at the newly open branch of bait al luban, a good Omani restaurant, next door.
MoreAs an Omani in mid twenties, I visited this museum for the first time in 2018 with my Ukrainian colleague. It was weekend so the museum timing was different. We arrived an hour before closing. We enjoyed the tour. There was a short cinematic movie about Oman, that mad me cry it was excellent. Because we arrived late I didn’t get chance to see everything. I will definitely visit again this year with my siblings. Also, the staff were friendly. I wish some historical pieces were covered in glass, I saw someone’s children touching pieces they weren’t supposed to.
MoreI was surprised how interesting and nice the museum was. There are several halls dedicated to different topics, each having the right size to catch your interest but not becoming boring. You will see realsize ship in the maritime sections and sultans throne in the part related to various rulers. Interesting is interactive 2.5D map of Muscat through the ages showing how small Portuguese port developed into the modern capital, replica of Al Ayn beehive tomb or models of almost every Omani castle.
MoreA must if you are visiting Muscat. Id recommend visiting it on the first day of the visit to Oman or the last day. It gives you a good overview of the country and its history and you might get good ideas of places to visit. Love the way its designed and the different halls.
MoreReally worth visiting it. Located in the Old Muscat area, just next to Al Bait Luban restaurant. Very modern museum, signages are well communicated, displays are simple yet artistic, very well-preserved and enjoyable experience I had here. Entrance fee is OMR 5 per adult, a bit steep but worth your money as I gotta learn A LOT about Oman that I have known nothing about before I visited here. If you dont bring cash, they can have you pay entrance with credit card. Particularly, I really liked the section where it showcases in 3D how the architecture building for traditional homes, forts, buildings in Oman. They even provide free folding stool for you to walk with so when you get tired you can just use it to sit. Loving the idea, very thoughtful. If you can only have time for 1 museum to visit in Oman, make sure this is the one. Also they are running promotion to give you 20% discount to dine at Al Bait Luban next door, however not sure when this promotion ends, just ask when you pay entrance fee.
MoreVery well done museum with a beautiful building outside and inside. I enjoyed that the exhibitions are small, informative, there are interactive elements, and overall great design. You can spend half an hour on the areas you are interested or couple of hours if you want to read everything. It is quite pricey at about $15, but it is Oman. I wouldnt go as far to say that if you didnt visit it you have an incomplete visit to Muscat, but if you have an hour, do see it.
MoreBest place to visit. Worth visiting for family with children. The entry fee is nominal. The description and the map helps us to come around. The best part and our most favourite one was the short film show. Informative and helped in knowing the country ( Sultanate of Oman). Very good experience. Children also enjoyed a lot. The facilities inside are very good. The wheel chair accessibility is amazing one.
MoreA must see museum in the heart of old Muscat. The vast history of the Omani people and land gathered in an excellent collection.
MoreKind of a must-see attraction for a visitor / tourist in Oman. The pricey entrance fee and lack of interactive features make it less ideal for family visits. Mostly static exhibitions. My personal opinion that it is enjoyable from mid teenage years. The building is suitable to visit any time of the year, even in the heat of the summer as it is heavily air conditioned. Ladies, be prepared. There is a small movie theater inside in the direction of the weapons exhibition where a short but very interesting and enjoyable movie is shown about the history of Oman, practically non-stop.
MoreA beautiful place which reminds us the history of oman and how the trend has been passed on from generation to generation. Some antiques, weapons, models of ships, and such items can be experienced. A short video is also been organized by the authorities in theatre which tells story of transformation of oman.
MoreVery clean well organized museum.Organized by themes, it will take you a maximum of 2 hours to visit. The naval part (boats construccionwas my favorite.Defenitly worth a visit. 5 Omani Rials if you are a tourist (1 if you live in the region).
MoreThe National Museum of Oman should be on top of your agenda if you happen to visit this amazing city.Modern abstract architectural building with high museum standards. Two story building with multiple rooms for different galleries. The location is approachable and can be easily accessed. The urban design of its cluster allow open spaces with nice vistas from all access points, that gives you many chances for nice shots and photos. We’ve spent around three hours, as the museum hosts very interesting galleries drawing the rich history of Oman.Make sure to attend the screening session. It gives you a quick glimpse about the history of Oman. It is offered in both English and Arabic and lasts for about 10-15 minutes. Also, grab a coffee from their cafe - it was my chance to get decent coffee at last.
MoreOne of great place in mathura Muscat. Is great place and masive collection of traditional amd historical items. The musium quit big and required more time to visit here peacefully. At least you must have 2 hours enough time to visit. there is show about oman history. One of best documentary 15 munites show. I really enjoy this place. Since no one will be disturbing you and you can take pictures and freedom as you like.
MoreA must seen to understand the beautiful and rich omani culture and Oman history. Great refurbishment. Very interactive and very good section about archaeology. Nice work, well done Oman and museum staff. The newest and one if the best museum.in the Gulf to visit!
MoreIf you want to learn and understand the history and culture of Oman in one place, this is the best place to start. Galleries are nicely organized. You can observe artifacts from prehistoric era to present time. There are some activities for childrens to do and really enjoyed the short movie. For Omani nationals tickets price is 1 riyal, Oman resident visa holders 2 riyal and for tourists 5 riyal. You can reach there by route 4 bus.
MoreA must visit for those who like to know about Omans history. The place is clean & tidy and everything is arranged perfectly. Its open 7 days a week. On friday the timing is 2pm - 6pm. The entry fee for the residents is OMR 2, citizens is 1 OMR and for the tourists is OMR 5.
MoreThe 4 stars is really down to the price. Its 1 OMR for Omanis, 2 for GCC countries and 5 for foreigners! And you can only pay by credit card. For 5 OMR, they should be throwing in audio guide and maps for free but they are extra.Whinge about unfair pricing over, you dont need a map as its a small/medium size museum over two floors. Just work your way round clockwise on each floor. As museums go, I think its about the perfect size. Youre not going to spend the entire day, 2 hours is going to be more than enough and it has variety of halls so you should be able to find something of interest. Before you leave, make sure you visit the toilet! Its a standard setter for museum loos across the world, never mind Oman!In terms of getting there, the number 4 bus from Ruwi is the cheapest option. The museum is the last stop and its a scenic route.
MoreWe visited here to see a special exhibition Ceremony and Celebration during Oman national day- the place is amazing and organized. They show the start-up of Oman culture and how they use to live. Anyone who loves culture, art etc., should give this place a visit. this spot is a refreshing bit of intelligence and well done exhibits that show Omans history. It was spectacular and really well staged and worth visiting.
MoreAwesome and entertaining for those interested in the history of Oman. Takes almost 4 hours to go through all the exhibits. Good support staff.
MoreI was amazed! This is a well rounded, well organised, interactive and historical museum. The content is well chose and the area division are amazing. The quality of the displayed items has great educational value. First go for the short session video on Oman history than make your way through the different halls. Most of the items are prohibited to touch unless indicated too. It is also freezing because the AC is on full power, so even in the summer, make sure you get some extra cloth especially if you are staying more than 2 hours and with children.
MorePhenomenal museum. Newly built, well designed, well lit, well air-conditioned. Displayed items have descriptions in Arabic and English. The Falaj system infotainment system is great. The staff are friendly and helpful (and offer free Omani coffee and date dessert). The videos presented in the theater in the middle of the museum is quite informative. Theres enough material here to keep you busy for half a day. All in all, this is one of the best-designed museums I have been to in the Middle East.
MoreThe National Museum of Oman is an entity of Government of Oman where historical and cultural artifacts are preserved and displayed for the general public and for the generations to read and understand the richness of Omans great past and history. Printed pamphlets are kept at the reception you can obtain all the information from the front office about everything regarding this Museum. The young office bearers are very keen and enthusiastic in providing all guidelines for the visitors. wish you all a very happy time.
