While the museum is average with a limited collection, they do take their guests for granted -1. When I visited, it was a Friday, and many of the information / display screens had not been turned on (refer attached images)2. The coffee shop was not open. I had checked at the time of purchasing the ticket, and the person had said that there is a coffee shop. But whats the use of it if you dont have it open when you are allowing visitors to come in.3. They dont yet have an Audio Tour.P.S: If the excuse for points 1&2 above is that it was a Friday, then why open the museum at all on Friday and deliver a below par experience. It would have been better to just keep it closed rather that get such a poor feedback.

The museum is contemporary and depicts Omans culture and different ages. For Omani adults, the entry fee is USD 2.5. Children and students under the age of 25 are admitted free of charge. For foreigners, the fee is USD 13. It is close to Al Alam Palace. As a result, before entering the museum, you may stroll to the palace and snap some shots. This location is not need to be booked by a tourism operator. You may arrive by vehicle or cab. You will need a couple of hours to complete all of the parts.

Good place to visit to get a taste of Omani history and heritage. Quite a small museum overall, but one of the rare ones in Oman, so worth a visit if you’re in the Mutrah area. 2 hours are sufficient. If you’re there for lunch, you can enjoy the lunch at the newly open branch of bait al luban, a good Omani restaurant, next door.

As an Omani in mid twenties, I visited this museum for the first time in 2018 with my Ukrainian colleague. It was weekend so the museum timing was different. We arrived an hour before closing. We enjoyed the tour. There was a short cinematic movie about Oman, that mad me cry it was excellent. Because we arrived late I didn’t get chance to see everything. I will definitely visit again this year with my siblings. Also, the staff were friendly. I wish some historical pieces were covered in glass, I saw someone’s children touching pieces they weren’t supposed to.

I was surprised how interesting and nice the museum was. There are several halls dedicated to different topics, each having the right size to catch your interest but not becoming boring. You will see realsize ship in the maritime sections and sultans throne in the part related to various rulers. Interesting is interactive 2.5D map of Muscat through the ages showing how small Portuguese port developed into the modern capital, replica of Al Ayn beehive tomb or models of almost every Omani castle.

Really worth visiting it. Located in the Old Muscat area, just next to Al Bait Luban restaurant. Very modern museum, signages are well communicated, displays are simple yet artistic, very well-preserved and enjoyable experience I had here. Entrance fee is OMR 5 per adult, a bit steep but worth your money as I gotta learn A LOT about Oman that I have known nothing about before I visited here. If you dont bring cash, they can have you pay entrance with credit card. Particularly, I really liked the section where it showcases in 3D how the architecture building for traditional homes, forts, buildings in Oman. They even provide free folding stool for you to walk with so when you get tired you can just use it to sit. Loving the idea, very thoughtful. If you can only have time for 1 museum to visit in Oman, make sure this is the one. Also they are running promotion to give you 20% discount to dine at Al Bait Luban next door, however not sure when this promotion ends, just ask when you pay entrance fee.

Very well done museum with a beautiful building outside and inside. I enjoyed that the exhibitions are small, informative, there are interactive elements, and overall great design. You can spend half an hour on the areas you are interested or couple of hours if you want to read everything. It is quite pricey at about $15, but it is Oman. I wouldnt go as far to say that if you didnt visit it you have an incomplete visit to Muscat, but if you have an hour, do see it.

Best place to visit. Worth visiting for family with children. The entry fee is nominal. The description and the map helps us to come around. The best part and our most favourite one was the short film show. Informative and helped in knowing the country ( Sultanate of Oman). Very good experience. Children also enjoyed a lot. The facilities inside are very good. The wheel chair accessibility is amazing one.

Kind of a must-see attraction for a visitor / tourist in Oman. The pricey entrance fee and lack of interactive features make it less ideal for family visits. Mostly static exhibitions. My personal opinion that it is enjoyable from mid teenage years. The building is suitable to visit any time of the year, even in the heat of the summer as it is heavily air conditioned. Ladies, be prepared. There is a small movie theater inside in the direction of the weapons exhibition where a short but very interesting and enjoyable movie is shown about the history of Oman, practically non-stop.

The National Museum of Oman should be on top of your agenda if you happen to visit this amazing city.Modern abstract architectural building with high museum standards. Two story building with multiple rooms for different galleries. The location is approachable and can be easily accessed. The urban design of its cluster allow open spaces with nice vistas from all access points, that gives you many chances for nice shots and photos. We’ve spent around three hours, as the museum hosts very interesting galleries drawing the rich history of Oman.Make sure to attend the screening session. It gives you a quick glimpse about the history of Oman. It is offered in both English and Arabic and lasts for about 10-15 minutes. Also, grab a coffee from their cafe - it was my chance to get decent coffee at last.

If you want to learn and understand the history and culture of Oman in one place, this is the best place to start. Galleries are nicely organized. You can observe artifacts from prehistoric era to present time. There are some activities for childrens to do and really enjoyed the short movie. For Omani nationals tickets price is 1 riyal, Oman resident visa holders 2 riyal and for tourists 5 riyal. You can reach there by route 4 bus.

The 4 stars is really down to the price. Its 1 OMR for Omanis, 2 for GCC countries and 5 for foreigners! And you can only pay by credit card. For 5 OMR, they should be throwing in audio guide and maps for free but they are extra.Whinge about unfair pricing over, you dont need a map as its a small/medium size museum over two floors. Just work your way round clockwise on each floor. As museums go, I think its about the perfect size. Youre not going to spend the entire day, 2 hours is going to be more than enough and it has variety of halls so you should be able to find something of interest. Before you leave, make sure you visit the toilet! Its a standard setter for museum loos across the world, never mind Oman!In terms of getting there, the number 4 bus from Ruwi is the cheapest option. The museum is the last stop and its a scenic route.

I was amazed! This is a well rounded, well organised, interactive and historical museum. The content is well chose and the area division are amazing. The quality of the displayed items has great educational value. First go for the short session video on Oman history than make your way through the different halls. Most of the items are prohibited to touch unless indicated too. It is also freezing because the AC is on full power, so even in the summer, make sure you get some extra cloth especially if you are staying more than 2 hours and with children.

Phenomenal museum. Newly built, well designed, well lit, well air-conditioned. Displayed items have descriptions in Arabic and English. The Falaj system infotainment system is great. The staff are friendly and helpful (and offer free Omani coffee and date dessert). The videos presented in the theater in the middle of the museum is quite informative. Theres enough material here to keep you busy for half a day. All in all, this is one of the best-designed museums I have been to in the Middle East.
