The Museum of the Frankincense Land - Archaeological museum in Salalah, Oman
I found it interesting. I never knew that Oman is known as Frankencense land (земля ладана). It was fascinating to sea the Iron Age figures. Meteorite hall was totally unexpected.
This is an excellent UNESCO site to visit while in Salalah. The museum is well curated and informative, providing snippets into the rich history of Oman. The grounds are immaculate, providing an enjoyable walking tour.
Mind Blowing. For me, I love this basically because of exibits (zoology: salt water fauna/actual sailors toolsI admire the total ambiance especially the Wooden floor (not sure if Narra or Yakal tree).
Very nice experience.
Definitely one of the best places to visit in Salalah. The museum itself is small but filled with many interesting items that highlight Omans rich history. The ticket is also very affordable and is charged at the entrance.
Small and nice museum to identify the history of frankincense
Got to learn a lot about the fascinating history and culture of Oman.
UNESCO site, Rich culture of salalah oman, you need to walk a lot to explore whole park.
Nice museum. Beach and park around was fantastic. Parking area is very limited which leads to queue outside.
Worth visiting! Very well maintained and preserved relics with a lot of knowledge about Oman, its cities, ports, naval history and tribes that used to live here centuries ago.
Museum showcasing the historical significance of Oman in the ancient civilization and goods trade worldwide.
Great experience
Nice! With a little bit of history and maritime interesting info..
beauty place, good for photo. specially the weather sejukk 😍
Lovely cool and modern well laid out museumSouvenir shop was poor and no cafeWell I never found one
Very nice small museum. One room details the maritime history of Oman, and the other room shows displays from prehistory through the present. It is located in an area that has been inhabited for centuries. Definitely worth a visit.
I have been here twice and it is great each time. There are rotating exhibts and you can learn all about the history of Oman and luban.
This museum showcases the rich culture and civilization of Oman. However if you are a fact finder or a guy who is keen to know about the Omani history, then its not to miss art gallery for you. Moreover you will also get amazed by the transformation that the country had went through in the last four decades. This is a must visit spot for tourists who are coming in
Good museum ... paid parking but worth it ... has a pond with beautiful ducks.. awesome view.
The Maritime museum is a great visit, I loved the model boats from the different eras of naval history. It really sparks your imagination and curiosity. The history museum as well is absolutely fascinating with artefacts from all kinds of places bringing the past back to life in a very visual way. It really needs at least an hour.A walk around the Al Baleed ruins in nice weather is also great and the partially reconstructed castle is worth the walk. I’m hoping that much more will be reconstructed so the whole city is transformed into an inspiring walk-in museum.
Situated in area of Hafa which resembles more like costal Kerala, this museum displays Omans maritime and geographical history.Open from 3 to 7pm on Friday and Saturday9am to 7pm on other days1 hour spend is more than sufficient2 omr parking fee.Has an attached small cafe and lake with sit out area where u find few ducks and lots of mosquitos if u stay late..😂😂😂Worth a try
Models of cargo ships, archaeological finds, but only 2 out of 3 halls open. Kids cannot make noise otherwise they will be asked to leave. OMR2 / private car entrance.
The museum is well kept and protected. Has a nice odour.Interesting information about the Frankincense a must buy before leaving Oman.
If you are into Museums and love to gain information on past times then you must visit this place. There is 2 omani riyal fee for one vehicle but still worth to visit.
Visited this a week or so ago, quite extensive information about Oman, most of which was new to us. Wish they had the coffee shop and gift shop opened, would have loved to buy something. And, had some tours available for us to join.
This museum is located on a Stunning location . Try to plan in evening to enjoy the calm atmosphere near this waterfront. Can have a cup of tea / coffee from a coffee shop beside this museum .
Its a fantastic and knowledgeable place for history lovers
The museum is quite small but the tour may be really interesting if you have a right guide with enough knowledge. Its not only on frankincence but whole history of Oman, as well as present times. We enjoyed this short history lesson, especially the part on sailing so I recommend to anyone who has some curiosity in the history of this part of the world.
Best place for photography. You can easily spend 2-3 hours at this place.
Cost is just 2 OR per car to visit the museum and walk around the archaeological site. The site is huge, and the museum is well laid out and beautiful. The museum also highlights more than just frankincense. Just know that it isnt large.
Walk through history of Oman and other civilizations that were connected through trade especially with frankincense. The museum is an eyeopener on how people exchanged goods and the maritime history is a marvel. The khor (the lagoonis beautiful and is home to fish and birds. Enjoyed walking around the archaeological site and reflecting on - once upon a time..
One of the great places to know more about Oman, you can spot few Frankincense trees in this area
That is a world class archeological site covering a huge area with the ruins of castle and many houses. It is located on the see shore. It is a great place for walking. The ticket price of about 2euro is imposed on a car, not a person. I do not know if the public transport exists, however.
Showcasing Omans History in the best possible way
Beautiful place! U can spend a lot of time to get to know about Oman if ur an enthusiast! Per vehicle it is 2.000 OMR entry. They might ask u the ticket inside the museum just to.make.sure!
Nice display, had a chance to know about the ancient civilisation of Oman.Definitely can spend an hour, they have boating but since its Eid they are operating only for the limited period of time.Got to see how they preserve the ancient stones, buildings, development etc., Lovely.A place to visit.
Franc Encens (8th Century French for High-Quality Incense)Frankincense is an aromatic resin that has been traded for over 6,000 years. It is made by stripping the bark from the tree and allowing its resin to bleed and harden. Frankincense is known primarily as an incense, but it has also been used for such things as perfume, an anti-bacterial agent, and a treatment for diabetes. We had a demonstration of the production process outside of the museum and then an inside tour that also included an attached maritime museum. There are shops behind the museum and clean restrooms. The museum is an important stop when visiting Salalah.
Lovely day. Beautiful old artifacts and history.
A symbol of ancient Omani civilization you will find a lot of information. There are often a few people, who need about an hour and a half
Was a great experience and gave us a lot of information and insight into the history of Oman. There are three halls and each has a theme. Unfortunately the media hall was not open when we visited. The maritime museum was absolutely great. The children loved it.
It was great to walk around the museum. You can spend more than 2 hours here. Dont shop from the gift shops because they are expensive. My friend and I were in the museum to complete a research about Frankincense. It Was informative
The ticket price is 2 Rial omani per car. If you walk in, you pay the same price per person. Includes maritime history of the region.
The museum is a nice place to bring kids for their knowledge and entertainment..really its a good place..
Small museum and talks about Oman in general not the frankincense trade
A museum showing much older history of mankind as perhaps human inhabited this area after leaving Africa.
Wonderful archaeological site and museum. Offers guided driven tours as well as boat tours (constantly sold out so go early). Also has nice craft shops. Under development are a seafront pavilion with cafes and restaurants.
Museum was really VERY interesting with all the history and nautical devices. The "tour" of the site with the golf-cart was nice because the area is really large - but the stops along the site were very short & the drivers English was really bad so we just got the information from the info panels along the way.
I am bit confused after visiting the Museum. The name suggests that it should be a museum also highlighting the Frankincense information also. (according to me)This is a Museum displaying historical artifact found in Oman focusing more on the sailor history of Oman. Nice collection. They also have a guided tour around historical site spread besides the Museum.Good place.Following are the drawbacks-1. There are no guided tours in Museum. On one available to provide any information also.2. The guided tour of historical site is only with Arabic security personnel. Who cant explain anything in English at all.3. Bad system of ticketing and queuing for guided tour.
The museum it self is kind of small, the objects viewed are nice, but photographs are prohibited inside the museum, also there was a ride around with a golf cart but unfortunately I was there by 1pm and it starts by 3pm!!
This is a smaller museum, but it is a beautiful place. They have an incredible boat exhibit as well as artifacts from the local region. They also have some impressive Qurans and other written work. The signs are in Arabic and English. It is right next to the Al Baleed Archeological Site, which is really interesting to walk around.
